a plate of fried chicken, macaroni, and cheese

Sometimes you want the chicken and buttered noodles and not all the fuss that comes with dining in the main dining room of Zehnder's. And that's okay! Let me introduce you to Z Cafe. Located in the basement of Zehnder's, Z Cafe offers a cafeteria style ordering system with plenty of your Frankenmuth favorites. You can order plenty of sides, soups, wings ... Oh and their famous chicken. Individual dinner options include 2 sides and a drink for about $18. You can even package up any leftovers to take home. We typically stop here on our way home for our cottage up north to grab a quick meal before getting home. Seating is spacious and service has been great as well. I look forward to getting another chicken dinner soon!

Quick line on a busy festive Friday Christmas shopping. Cole slaw and bread/roll were so good. Tender chicken in gravy (over noodles). Pricey sides but worth it as I took half of everything home. I wish they could "dim the lights" in the dining area.

We ate in the restaurant last time through Frankenmuth, so decided to go a little low key this trip. The food was good and the folks on the line very friendly (the gentleman who made our salad was completely enthralled that we were from ... Los Angeles), but this is some pricey hot table food. This food was $36! If we're ever in the 'Muth again, we'll seek out a more affordable option.

My daughter and I visited in August and she spotted this cafe. We didn't have time to eat here, but I promised we'd come back. We finally made it back and I must say I was impressed! Since it was cafeteria style I wasn't sure it would live up to the sit down restaurant quality but it totally did so and more! One child had been craving the scrumptious chicken noodle soup which never disappoints. She also tried the hot chicken sandwich with mash instead of bread, Mac and cheese, and the incredible pull apart garlic roll. The other child ordered the sausage plate with bread pudding. The adults got a chicken plate, and a tray full of sides: stuffing, buttered noodles, and spatzle. We also shared an amazing German bock beer, very tasty! It was not a cheap meal, but reasonably priced. The portions were large, we had leftovers. I loved the quick convenience and ability to order the items we love...like me going for a simple tray of all sides. We will definitely return to the cafe for a quick bite. My daughter is still talking about the sausage.

We stop here everytime we visit Frankenmuth maybe twice! We can just order our chicken and sides, pay and eat! You can also get carryouts, they offer holiday buffets and even fishfrys! Theres been a few times the chicken was forgotten during a carryout but its only once or twice so we suggest checking your order. Staff is friendly and food is not bad!

Returned for the clam chowder. Just as good a year later. The Caesar salad, made fresh as you watch is great too.

Even better, the servants were all dressed up in lederhosens and European gardening skirts, just like the same clothes that Snow White wears in Disney's very first movie. Moreover, the polka music made me want to dance. In condiments, the pretzel was big and shareable for us, as well as the hot soups, wieners, schnitzels, and fried chicken. He was friendly, attentive, and kept everything running smoothly despite our larger group. The decor was a lot of fun and really made us feel like we had stepped into Germany. It added to the overall experience and made it much more than just another dinner. We tried several different meals, including the Frankenmuth chicken, chicken schnitzel, chicken pot pie, chicken tenders, and a soft pretzel. The portions were generous, the food came out hot, and overall everything tasted very good. The fried chicken was especially crispy and flavorful, and the soup and fresh bread were also excellent. The only real disappointment was the spaetzle. It had way too much butter and ended up being very greasy, which overpowered the dish. Overall, we had a great family dinner and really enjoyed the experience. Between the atmosphere, excellent service from Mitch, and the quality of the food, it's definitely a place worth visiting while you're in Frankenmuth. We'd happily come back.

Come Hungry, but Don't Expect Authentic German Food…read more First things first--the amount of food you are served at the Bavarian Inn is excessive, so make sure you arrive hungry! We came to Frankenmuth specifically looking forward to good, authentic German food, and unfortunately, what we found here was a much more Americanized version. The food isn't bad--it's good--but if you've eaten traditional German food, you may find yourself a little disappointed. The schnitzel was dry, and the brown mushroom gravy was much more flour-based than we expected, with very little served over the meat. One of the things we love about traditional German schnitzel dishes is the rich, flavorful gravy generously served with them, and that was definitely missing here. It's hard to admit, but the best dishes on our table were actually the sides brought out and served family style before our main meals arrived. We enjoyed those more than the entrées themselves. Where the Bavarian Inn really shines is the atmosphere and service. Our wait staff was wonderful--friendly, attentive and very good at what they do. I just wish we could have been equally enthusiastic about the food. The portions are enormous, the experience is certainly unique, and the service is excellent. But if your primary reason for visiting is to find authentic German cooking, you may want to temper your expectations.

Convenient and Pleasant, but Don't Be in a Hurry…read more We ate at Oma's Restaurant while staying at the Bavarian Inn Lodge. The restaurant itself is very homey and pleasant, with the wall murals adding to the traditional Bavarian atmosphere. The food was good, although I wouldn't say it was great. The bratwurst were good, and I particularly enjoyed the sauerkraut. It had a nice flavor and wasn't overly tangy, which I appreciated. The biggest drawback was the service--it was very slow. This is definitely not the place to choose if you're looking for a quick meal or are already hungry and want to eat right away. Plan to settle in and give yourself plenty of time. Being located inside the Bavarian Inn Lodge gives Oma's a steady stream of customers, and there's certainly something to be said for the convenience of simply walking downstairs and having a meal without leaving the property. However, with so many dining choices in Frankenmuth, I would probably explore some of the other options first and save Oma's for when convenience is the priority or other choices are limited. Overall, pleasant atmosphere, decent German food and very convenient for Lodge guests--but the slow service keeps it from being a restaurant I'd go out of my way to visit.

If this bar was located in Chicago as is, it would be a popular every night stop. Here, it's effing dead during our midweek stop. The only eye candy was the bar maiden which was years younger than me, but with the dim light and sleepy appearance I really couldn't make out much. Booze can be a bit pricey, but not more than a chain restaurant. They have some very fine beer taps, clean lines so the beer taste is brisk. Many of their drafts and bottles are Irish reminiscent. Think of an older Irish pub, dark woods, dimly lit, the old smell of cigar smoke, pennant flags of coats of armor hanging from the ceiling. Dark tiled ceiling, rustic lamps and paintings, while the bar maiden had said they have a pretty good college following on college night, I'm believing their clientele more that most customers belong to the late thirty's and older plus crowd. I'm told that one could easily find an older cougar on the prowl or older well to do daddy looking for skullduggerous actions. Their men's room is a shanty and should be set a blaze. At least twenty or more, disgusting; the urinal has a permanent urine stain. The toilet stall was no better, here resided just a handful of fruit flies, but from the smell and look of the water, I'd say at least a few other men had pissed and not flushed before me. YUCKY, I hate the hair raising feeling of a filthy washroom. You have to imagine that others have sat on that toilet, poor fellow.. to sit and then find fruit flies flying up your ass. Terrible. Other then that bullshit, with the right band or banging DJ, you could be JUMPING around to some banging beats and having a great time. Parking is limited to the street and there are some local parking lots. I'm not sure about the neighborhood, it may have once thrived but is now lethargic.
