So, so good! Like others, I saw the 5-star reviews and thought there had to be something to that. I was with a friend from Brooklyn who was happy to see a deli like this outside of New York. We both had the tuna salad, with a cup of soup; beef-cabbage and loaded potato. All of it SO GOOD. Fresh ingredients AND made to order. Talked with Chef Seymour for a bit and you can tell he genuinely loves what he does and cares about providing the best quality meals. We randomly picked this place for a lunch stop on our drive home from Boyne Highlands I believe it was the owner who greeted us and took our order - very friendly service and our order was up fast. I had the Central Park Tuna Salad on and it was fresh and delicious with lots of flavors to accompany a perfectly portioned and tasty scoop of albacore tuna salad. My son had a steak sandwich and wished he would have taken the owner's advice and upgraded to a 12 in - it was so good. My daughter did a build your own sub made exactly the way she wanted it and my husband had the daily special. It was a great place to stop off after a weekend up North and beat any of the fast food options we might have considered. Soooooo good! Corned beef perfection on the Triple Bronx Reuben (sub cole slaw for krout) and Russian dressing on the side. Slaw wasn't runny so as to sog the sandwich. The Big Apple Roast Beef was excellent as well, with warm toasty bread and a just right crisp on the beef. We left saying, "Wow, that was good!!" Hubs said it was outstanding, even, and he can be hard to impress. It's a rarity to have something exceed your expectations like this. The sandwich was not thrown together, but was a combination of factors (cheese melted, bread warm, etc) to make it excellent. Service was friendly and warm, and when we needed something changed, Seymour couldn't have been nicer. Not super fast if there are others before you, but it's not fast food... It's amazing food!! The Birch Run Deli has one of the best steak and onion sandwiches I've had and the couple next to me says the Ruben is the only Ruben west of NYC that they will eat. The staff is amazing, especially the owner. He's extremely nice and conversational. Get a lunch card if you are going to be in the area! I got my pop and chips and sat down and they brought out my Big Apple Steak, Onion, and Cheese and it was ginormous! I paid a total of $11 for what could definitely be shared between two people. Stopped in after shopping with the fam around 7pm, one hour before they close. Had good reviews and looked perfect for what we were looking for. Looks like a new place so had to try it out.
