I recently moved to Boston and was pleasantly surprised to see this cafe open in Worcester. I went mostly on the weekends while visiting my family. The reason I'm giving a poor review is because of service-I went this past Friday and had lunch in addition to buying a bag of coffee. I forgot to ask for the coffee to be ground so went up to the register after to ask, about an hour later. The woman said she didn't remember us and that I needed to show my credit card to prove I paid for the coffee. I did this and she had the coffee ground. My advice-don't put coffee in line where people stand to wait if you don't trust your customers to pay, leave it behind the counter for sale. I will not be returning. read more

Came here on a Sunday. It was awesome! Place was packed so it took a little while to find a place to sit but was very worth it. They had a solo sourtherny blues guitarist performing, but it wasn't so intrusive that you couldn't converse with who you were with. The food was very good, and the staff was friendly and prompt. We've been here a few times over the past 6 months. Always on the weekend (which can get busy for them, so be sure to get there early to get a table!). The atmosphere is open and a little rustic--very comfortable and good for gathering with family and friends. They have a variety of seating options, like large booths, 2-person high tops, and an open bench area. The glass are and silverware is self-serve and you bus your own tables. The food is excellent, with fresh ingredients and homemade breads. We loved all of the different "toasts" they had to offer with various spreads and cheeses. The prices are right. The coffee was good. We also enjoyed the live music on a Sunday morning (though once the volume was a bit too loud so that we couldn't easily converse). We will definitely be back. read more

Today,I assembled a chicken and sausage cacciatori in my crock pot before going to work and decided we needed some great bread to go with it. Our nieces and nephews have been raving to us about Birch Tree Bread. So, I decided to go there to get an appropriate loaf of bread for dipping and dunking in the cacciatori. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by owner, Rob F, whom I have known from several of his previous endeavors in the food industry. We renewed old acquaintances and had a terrific discussion about his current venture. Rob recommended his country bread to go with my cacciatori. Well, it's better than than he predicted. I recently discovered this hidden gem when I went to the Smokestack BBQ across the street for lunch and it was closed. After finding the entrance up the street, we entered this huge open concept bakery/coffeehouse/restaurant. It blew me away that this place existed here downtown and I didn't know about it. We had a delicious luncheon sharing a quiche, salads, sandwiches and a fantastic bread pudding. Very yummy and not that expensive. Alot of regulars seem to hang out networking on their laptops and taking up the best tables though. read more

I found this place by accident when reading a Yelp of another local business and this is such a gem! The line to order was almost out the door when i arrived on a Sunday at noon, but was well worth the wait. I had the quiche of the day. It was amde with carmelized onions, potatoes, a creamy tomato-cheese filling. The crust was perfect and flaky. The side salad was perfectly dressed. The live music on Sunday morning was a treat too. Thankfully I was able to just sit and enjoy as I was out on my own for the morning. Looking forward to returning!!! read more

Read about this bakery in a Boston foodie magazine and stopped in today while in Worcester. Cool looking bakery cafe. I bought a loaf of their Country bread and was amazed at how wonderful and delicious it was. We have High Rise Bakery, Iggy's and Clear Flour in Boston - but this bread from Birch Tree was amongst the best bread I've ever tasted!! I can't wait to get back to Worcester so that I can try some of their other breads - Birch Tree Bread Company is a rising star! read more

Birch Tree is right across from my apartment which is really great for a big coffee drinker like me. I've only tried a cookie from them a far as food goes and it was really good, but I have tried a few different types of coffee from them and they have all been great. I really enjoy the atmosphere of the place, and it's really cool that they have live music. It is noisy but I have seen people sit and do work on laptops, soI assume they have free Wi-Fi. If you are going to try Birch Tree, especially on the weekend, be prepared to wait! The lines are long and because of all the specialties, the service is a bit slow (not to their fault). They do have a separate line for to go orders, but it's not very clear. People who have ordered already tend to wait there for their orders to be ready so others who are looking to grab a quick cup of coffee and head out probably don't realize this convenient ordering window option is even there. But really, if this tells you anything, it's that this place is worth waiting for! read more

I've been going here since they opened up in 2014! Every time I go the staff is extremely friendly and the menu always impresses me. Their toast is amazing, they have several kinds of combinations! They usually have a daily special, which is always delicious. The atmosphere is great, a homey place with great vibes. There are tons of tables which vary in size plus some benches. There is beautiful local artwork hanging on the walls and the music (whether LIVE or from a playlist) is always on point! Coffee and drink specials are always stellar. I had the Corn Beef and Kraut. The corned beef was quite fatty and greasy; not a good corned beef. As a result, the bottom piece of bread was a little soggy. My wife got the Turkey Bacon. It was better. The turkey is a tad dry, but the cranberry mayo helped. This is not quick food and the wait was very long, especially for sandwiches. It's pricey for what you get. read more

They support local farmers and natural ingredients which is important to me. Today's visit sums up everything about Birch Tree: they live on a much slower clock than the one you and I use, but they make such exquisite food that I can't stay away. Case in point, I asked at 9 on this very un-busy Tuesday to purchase two wheat loaves. Not ready yet, they said, but they usually shoot for 9, so it shouldn't be too much longer. I asked for an estimate on when they'd be ready, so I could decide whether to wait. 20-25 minutes was the estimate. Over 50 minutes later, I had lost the first part of the day and my stomach was in knots with regret and disappointment at such a grossly wrong estimate. But now we've got another 2 brilliant local wheat loaves for the week and you can bet I'll be back here again, soon and often -- just not when I'm on anything remotely resembling a tight schedule. read more

We had olive bread toasted with whipped feta and olive oil, it was delicious but it was $3.50 for ONE PIECE of toast, and it was a regular sized piece of toast. Also got a maple latte that was good and took home a piece of bread pudding that was just ok, I ended up throwing it out because it was too sweet and just not that great. Those three things cost me $20. There's no need to be greedy. The prices don't have to be that high, and I can't support that kind of ridiculous greed. Get real Birchtree. read more

First time here, dropped by on a beautiful Saturday morning on the recommendation of a friend and it was as wonderful as she described. Great ambiance with a live band playing when I was there and the food and service were fantastic (as could be told by the line for orders, I would suggest coming here before noon or after 1 or you might have a bit of a wait).
