Saw on their website that they're open until 6pm. We were celebrating being finished a very long day of competition. The place was really busy, it looked like it was going to be great. Unfortunately, we got there at 5:36 and were directed by the worker to the sign that scooping time ends at 5:30pm. Disappointing! We really enjoyed our visit here. This place if very picturesque with the views of mountains and fields. Definitely worthy of the gram! ;) In addition, there's freshly made ice cream! Great place to take the family and enjoy ice-cream or a deli sandwich (they always come with a side of potato chips). It's nice to see the cows chilling in the barns and serve as an opportunity to show kids where food comes from. I'd recommend my favourite ice cream-but then everyone would order it, so I'll let you choose your own. read more

Located in the countryside of Abbotsford is Birchwood Dairy. My wife and I went here for ice-cream and to look around the store. We spent 10 minutes in the ice cream section trying to decide on what flavour to get. We decided on the Raspberry cheesecake flavoured Ice cream. On our way out we both got single scop ice cream cones. I had the pumpkin pie and my wife got Bubblegum. We were both pleased with the flavour and texture of the ice cream. I definitely recommend the Pumpkin Pie ice cream. it is really tasty I would recommend this over Dairy Queen any day of the week. The staff are quicker and more polite than DQ. They have other farm goods here for sale such as vegetables, Eggs, Milk, Yogurt and other farm fresh items. These prices are a little more than the local grocery stores however you're buying directly from the source here. I always recommend shopping local. They have self guided tours where you can tour the grounds which I might take advantage of next time. If you have kids there is a swing set and sliding board for them to play on. Birchwood Dairy also has lunch available in the snack bar area and the prices aren't bad. They also have a selection of baked goods and fudge for sale! This was a very disappointing experience. The cashiers were really rude to us. They have a list of "gourmet" ice creams to choose from but they didn't have any but one (if you're gonna display seasonal ice creams, just list the ones you have out to not disappoint your customers.) The ice cream lacked depth and flavour and tasted like an inexperienced chef made it. My praline pecan had approximately half a pecan in it. It also had a freezer burnt consistency. Never coming back. And the cow hospital made me want to lose my appetite. On a positive note, beautiful farm! read more

Stopped by here on my way back from Harrison Hot Springs. It was the perfect end to the perfect summer day outing. We went kayaking, power boating, relaxing on the lake with dinner afterwards.... then went for yummy ice cream on the way back! I got the black raspberry cheesecake ice cream and was in love. It was creamy, smooth, and not too sweet. We came here because my friend wanted to try the peanut butter cup ice cream flavour but alas... they ran out of it that day. Travesty! She was so sad but perked up when she saw there were 4L pails of it in the back freezers. She said she will be back with a cooler to truck it home. I can see this being a good outing for a family because they have other farm stuff there. There is a self guided tour with an awesome free petting zoo. The lambs, goats, cows, etc were all so tame! And friendly. (Maybe they were looking for us to feed them, I dunno. They got excited when my friend started waving his ice cream over the railing at them.) It's also a cute area just to hang out. They have swings, a slide, and some old tractors on display. All in all, I would say I would go back. Next time, with a cooler so I can buy their milk and more ice cream! :) read more

We were out in Abbotsford for the day and decided to swing by for some ice cream. I got Bordeux Cherry and BF got a double scoop of Raspberry Cheesecake and Raspberry Chocolate Truffle. They were tasty and well-priced for homemade ($3.50 for a single scoop). I loved how many chunks of real cherries were in mine, but BF was disappointed that the Raspberry Cheesecake didn't have enough raspberry and no chunks of cheesecake. (He really likes the CheeseQuake Blizzard from Dairy Queen, which has little chunks of cheesecake). We wandered around a bit as I wanted to see the calves, but were kind of disappointed by the lack of signage. BF searched on his smartphone to find out why the calves were in tiny little pens, because there was no one around to ask and no signs explaining the process. I'm sure if you pay to have the tour guide (or come as part of a school group) they explain this all. But all I had was the 'self-guided tour' printout from the store. The grounds were well-kept, with green grass to sit on and flowers. There was a playground for the kids, lots of seating with tables and shade umbrellas. I would be interested in picking up some ice cream to-go if I was passing through again, but I wouldn't make a special trip to Abbotsford just for the dairy (although if you do the Circle Farm Tour, Birchwood is listed). read more

Oh how I love Birchwood Dairies. I got hooked on their peanut butter cup ice cream back when they had a store front in SevenOaks Mall and thankfully now I'm just up the hill from them. There are probably about 30 different kinds of ice cream/sorbet/gelato available at a time and you can get a variety of cones and sizes. My favorites are black raspberry cheesecake, coffee caramel, and peanut butter cup. If you go to the very back of the store, they have large coolers with tubs of ice cream you can take home with you. Totally worth it! The shop has produce and local items available, and they make sandwiches daily if you don't want to count on ice cream to be your whole meal. You can also check out the cows and there is plenty of seating available. The shop is open year round, though they seem to be busiest on weekends in the summer. Definitely a must-visit if you're in the Abbotsford area. read more

The younger girl that works there was rude. My sons too icecream scoop fell right after she handed it to him and the one girl was like "give him a scoop in a bowl" and the girl who had served the ice-cream pitched in and said "it was only a half a scoop". Are you for real? sHe could've just given a half scoop but to say it made them sound super rude and cheap. I actually said, well it shouldn't have fell off in the first place. I made the mistake of assuming that since the farm made their own ice cream and cheeses that they wouldn't put crap ingredients in it. Corn syrup, modified ingredients, and mono and diglycerides were not only in their bright blue bubble gum and cotton candy flavors (ack), they were found in flavors like grandma's apple pie too. This whole experience was disappointing to put it simply. The younger girls who served us ice cream were rude and seemed very uninterested in actually helping us. Disappointing if you like eating real food. Their ice cream is full of stuff that shouldn't be in ice cream: soy, wheat, artificial flavours, stabilizers, corn syrup, glucose, preservatives, color, etc. After eating gelato from Bella Gelateria and ice cream from Earnest, these crap ingredients just aren't necessary and they don't make food taste better. I regret going and wouldn't go back. Nice staff though. read more
