So many great towns in Arizona have been consumed by "fake authenticity" (a phrase we arrived at this weekend), it's nice to stumble into a place like the Bird Cage. I can't call it refreshing because it's cramped, dusty, noisy, crowded, loud and chaotic. But it is what it is - an unpretentious bar with great drinks - and doesn't try to be something more. Wedged into a narrow spot along Whiskey Row, the Bird Cage is popular with the locals and bikers, who seem to keep a wary eye on the tourists. They have live music several nights a week, and the bartenders pour some fantastically strong drinks. If you're wine snob, THIS IS NOT your kind of bar. But, if you can relax, mind your Ps & Qs, and enjoy people watching then you will probably like the Bird Cage. I'm not gonna lie, I only had 2 drinks here and one wasn't even good. However, I like the place, and if you drink beer or shots you can't really go wrong. The crowd is definitely a little older, which is not really a bad thing. Not a place I would go all the time or anything, plus I don't even live in Arizona. There was a live band playing, mostly crap songs but a few decent ones. It is CASH ONLY fyi. I don't know, drop by and see if you like it. this place has reopened after an awful fire that took out the original location. LUCKILY they saved the gorgeous bar itself, and it now resides just DOWN from the original location. wonderful folks have donated lots of birds and more to restore the original feeling, including the deer on the walls, and a goose that floats above you as you enter. the stage is up real high, and there is actually more space. as always? they stand with the locals when the yarnell fire took the lives of 19 firefighters, and all I could think of? were these some of the same that put out the birdcage? and I was right. glad to see you back, and bless you all. still a good drink at a good price, and fabulous waitstaff. read more

On our recent trip to Prescott, we did the whole Pub Crawl thing. The only bar that we went back to for seconds was the Bird Cage. Once you get over the iron birds hanging above the bar, and the stuffed birds everywhere else, you are in for a good time. Drinks were fairly priced and well made, no watered down drinks here. On a Friday, they had a cover band, who much to my delight even played Anything, Anything by Drama Rama. The band itself was good. The lead singer....well not so much. The staff here was amazing, we were staying in a hotel, and pretty much everything was closed for the night. None of the bars offered any kind of pub food that late, so the staff here found a pizza place that would deliver to our hotel, got us a menu and we were able to call right from the bar to order. That kind of above and beyond service just simply rocks. Some might not like the narrowness of the Bird Cage, but for me it's part of the charm of being in a historic building. read more

I stop here every time i go though Prescott for a beer. Decent selection of beers on tap, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. The historic past of this bar just adds to it. The bar is cash only so be sure to bring some as the ATM fees at the one in the bar are outrageous. read more

Fairly decent watering hole with live music on a Saturday night. It was one of the only saloons that wasn't SRO, but it was also an older crowd. The bar is decorated with plenty of dead animals and the beers are cheap enough to make most folks have two or three. Not sure if it was all locals or tourists, but a good majority of the crowd was over 40 and beyond. The band was decent and even played there own music. I was in Prescott for a conference and went out with my fellow conference goers. One of the bars we stumbled upon was the Bird Cage and we had a blast taking advantage of their drink specials and foosball table. Staff was extremely friendly and the only reason why I can't give a 5 star rating is it's a cash only bar in the 21st century. read more

This was fun. It was great to sit in the back and overlook the Christmas lights on the court house plaza. A local band was playing or practicing when we arrived. They were entertaining both on and off the stage. Loved afterwards that Jack Johnson was playing on the jukebox. read more

Interesting spot. Came before the bands and the crowds on a Thursday Evening, and actually thought that the bar mistress was great. Drinks are a great price, and you can't go wrong if you're having Vodka on the Rocks. Never never never taint your cocktail with mixers! DUH! Anyway, it was fun to come to a no-frills bar with the hubby, shoot some pool, and not leave tipsy and all messed up. Whilst shooting pool, we were asked by some drunken fool to play the winner. All the m-f wanted to do was play for beer. Niether the hubs nor I were having it. Dude was already messed up, and wanted to shoot pool for beer. All we wanted to do was get out after our game, but what does one do for honor's sake? Play the game to lose! LOL...so, that's what the hubs did. If I'd have played him the poor sod would have had to buy me LOTS of beer, and judging by the difficulty he had in raising the 0.75 for the pool table, he wouldn't have been able to be honorable. So, in short...go for the kitsch, the reasonably priced bevvies, and the great bartenders......DON'T go to shoot pool with some drunk who's going to TRY to hustle you! read more

Really fun place when we wandered in on a slow TUE night on Whiskey Row to hear a crowd of people cheering and having great fun as artists were being cheered and creating and items were auctioned off as soon as they were "completed". Cheap beer and really friendly people explaining what was going on to us. At the end of the auction a musician started cranking up some folk rock on guitar and drums were being set up. Then it was announced NEXT week live music would return on WED. Shucks missed out on that the next day! We were encouraged to go explore some more of the area after a while and enjoy our honeymoon as we look at Prescott to relocate. This place adds so nicely to the spirit of Prescott and should cause the competition to sit up and take notice as they wend their way back from the fire. Best price on scotch! Everyone in here was having a good time. All the people feeling buzzed were petting my "ask to pet" service animal but hey even my dog was feeling the love. The bartender was top notch. Excellent pour on the scotch and let me run to the truck to get cash so I could avoid the ATM fee which I of course included in her tip. Came here on a Thursday, visiting from Phoenix at the beginning of the New Year's Eve weekend. Excited by the very, rather large, wildlife head mounts with strung up lights decorating their respective antlers on the wall, the Bird Cage exuded a warmth that made it a low-key drinking spot for locals and tourists alike. We were lucky enough to come in during happy hour, which included $2.50 drafts for pints. We had walked into two other saloons on Whiskey Row before Bird Cage, and the others seemed to be teeming with tourists and gimmicks while the no-frills ambiance of the Bird Cage coupled with the quick, friendly service of our bartender was refreshing. We met another visitor from The Valley and became quick friends for the remainder of the night. I recommend Bird Cage to anyone who wants a dive bar out in the open and good, cheap drinks. How can you not love The Bird Cage! Been going here for years before the fire. We were up in Prescott over the weekend and walked around the town square and decided to stop in for a cocktail. My boyfriend had a PBR and it was a 24 oz can and I had a vodka water. Total came to $8.75! How can you resist stopping in here with those great prices!!! My drink was stiff but delicious and refreshing on a hot day. While they did a great job with the new location/build-out I still miss the charm of the old cramped and dusty bar. First time there in many years. We saw "The Ghost Town Blues Band" on Sunday late afternoon. This place was super crowded but still managed to grab a table and chairs. We got a couple of draft beers and enjoyed the full concert. The band really rocked the place. The last set was the best. read more

Yes the Bird Cage is back in business and I couldn't be happier. The new location is modern and beautiful featuring the same bar that survived the fire and the origional sign out front. The place is much bigger than the old one and the stage is bigger. The same great staff has returned to serve you great drinks and the music on the weekends is going to be great. The place is a bit of an echo chamber right now but I will assure all you yelpers out there that they have an expert coming in to fix the acoustics which will make the live entertainment sound great. Stopped in here for a bloody mary that didn't disappoint. They have a touch Tunes juke box and make a good drink. Made some friends and also heard some live music one of the nights we were in town. It's a good stop to avoid the night club like crowds in other places. read more

Well, what can you say about downtown Prescott? We were here in January, so for a Friday night, the town was quite dead. We played pool and had some drinks and shots, we didn't stick around for the live music, we wanted to hear some country! The only sketchy part is the last drink I ordered I payed with a 20, and she shorted me. Not sure if they thought I was drunk and wouldn't notice or an honest mistake.
