We stopped in for the first time on a recent Saturday afternoon. The place is clean and inviting, but staff wasn't very friendly. No welcome or asking if we had any questions as we gazed at the menu - just stood there patiently waiting to take our order. My husband opted for the smashburger and I ordered the crispy chicken. We ordered fries and the fried pickles to share. Food came out relatively fast and both the fries and pickles were generous - definitely enough to share and we actually ended up taking most of the pickles home (they reheat perfectly in the air fryer). The fried chicken sandwich was average, and the chicken caesar wrap was disappointing. The wrap could be improved if they grilled the wrap once assembled. Warm chicken in a cold wrap didn't mix well. EDIT: Within an hour of posting this, I received a refund on my order (notified via a text). I appreciate their effort to make it right, it's rare for such personal accountability these days. Unfortunately, our experience was horrible. We ordered pickup after a swim meet this past Saturday evening. Despite the order not being ready when we arrived (which was no problem) the pickle chips were already soggy and all stuck together in the to-go container, basically inedible. The fries were also already soggy, but that was the least offensive part, they were so heavily seasoned that they were definitely inedible (and we did not choose "extra seasoning"). I honestly can't even understand how anyone would choose extra based on the amount that the regular fries were doused in seasoning. To top it off, 3 out of the 4 chicken sandwiches were prepared incorrectly. The best thing we ordered was a side salad, but it was packaged with the hot food, so it was warm, but at least still edible. Fry portions were definitely enough to share (but we didn't know and ordered 4 orders) but they were terrible, it was a travesty to have so many inedible fries. It was the most disappointing meal, we paid $83 (including a 20% tip - because I tipped in advance before knowing how terrible the order was going to be) for food we couldn't even eat. I have driven by this restaurant many times and my husband and I decided to try it. My initial impression is that it was very clean, smelled delicious, and I was excited to try something. I was surprised that there wasn't anyone dining at the restaurant for 4 pm on a Saturday being so close to downtown Elkhart. We were not greated when we walked inside the restaurant. We got our food pretty quickly. I like that you could order at the register or there was a self order station. I ordered a single smash burger and pickle chips,my husband ordered the chicken sandwich and fries. The portions are pretty big and I would consider it a shareable size. My husband was not overly impressed with his chicken sandwich. It was quite greasy and the fries were heavily seasoned. We did not get extra seasoning added. My smash burger was good and I enjoyed it. The caramelized onions were a nice touch. Again, it was greasy and the combination of grease and toppings made it quite messy. I rate this three stars because it's good but not overwhelming good not did I think it was bad. It was ok. I would eat here again and I do want to try other menu items but it's not something I would add to my weekly rotation of restaurants to eat at. read more

This place was busy but there was no wait. I had the chicken tenders and they were plump and crispy. They were even crispy the next day when I reheated my leftovers. My husband had the burger and said it was good and like a smash burger. I wish fries or chips were included with the tenders or burgers. I'd repeat the chicken tenders next time for sure. read more

The vibe here is pretty modern the place looks clean and has a great outdoor space as well, which is usually lacking in this area. You order and grab your food at the counter, so there isn't much actual service, but the cashier was friendly. The chicken sandwich is nothing to write home about. It's pretty average, and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this one and a chick fila sandwich. It only comes with pickles and sauce on it, so it's pretty plain. I had dinner tonight at Bird in the hand in Elkhart. I was eating alone and I asked for a recommendation. A very nice man smuggest the special (PBLT) a Pork Belly lettuce and Tomato. I added the season French fries and a bottle of Gumball Head beer from 3 Floyds. The sandwich is amazing. I little spicy and plenty of flavor. The French fries are nicely seasoned and were great with the sandwich. I will be recommending this restaurant to friends and family. read more

I recently visited Bird in the Hand for a casual lunch with some friends. The double smashburger hit the spot perfectly. Juicy and cooked to order, with crisp bacon providing a nice crunch with smoked Gouda cheese, caramelized onion and their special sauce. I'm always impressed when a simple burger is prepared so well. While the food was great, it was the sides that really stole the show ! Perfectly cut and cooked until crisp on the outside but soft within, they had a great potato flavor and were impossible to stop eating. In fact, I may have to make a return trip soon just to order another basket of those fries. We also sampled the peach pie shake! The textures and flavors blended together beautifully for a real taste of summer on a plate. It was the perfect way to finish our meals. I'll definitely be back to Bird in the Hand again soon. The quality and care put into every dish is apparent. It's a relaxed yet delightful spot for dinners, sharing plates, or just grabbing a quick bite. I am gobsmacked that no one has mentioned the prices at this joint. 2 burgers and fries and a milkshake was 65 dollars!! They should be ashamed...I mean really. This is a great addition to Elkhart! The atmosphere is relaxed, the decor beautiful, modern and a little quirky. The employees were friendly, and helpful since this was our first time here. I was so happy when the kitchen manager heard of my food allergy and gave me other options to choose from that wouldn't cause a reaction. Great customer service! Now for my opinion on the food...if you like chicken...get your tail down here and try theirs! It's so good! Tender, juicy, flavorful.....absolutely delicious. I was a little bummed I couldn't try the crispy chicken due to my food allergy, but the grilled chicken was phenomenal and the spicy honey sauce they had me try was out of this world. Since I had wanted crispy chicken and couldn't order it, I added some fries to my sandwich and then dunked it in the sauce...O.M.G.! We will be back. Probably regularly. My only complaint is the paper straws! I know they're supposed to be good for the environment but I DETEST them. They make everything taste gross.
