Had brunch here since a friend of mine had mentioned it before. The service was great. Servers speak perfect English and Spanish. The portions were very huge and fairly priced. Tried the birria meat but honestly I wasn't very impressed. I keep hearing how great birria tacos are and I don't understand the hype. The coconut drink was so good, like heavenly. Amazing, fresh Mexican food. The interior is plain but comfortable. Staff is very friendly and came by regularly to check on us and refill drinks. The food was fantastic. Fresh, hot tortillas, nice salsa with a bit of heat to it. I ordered the pozole which was so flavorful. My wife had the tacos rancheros and she said they were the best tacos she had ever eaten. Birria tacos are already delicious to begin with having that insanely tasty beef(or lamb if you'd rather) that is braised before it's tossed on the griddle to give it a bit of a snap. Then we throw is cheese too? All in a flour tortilla that is also tossed on the griddle so everything melds together like the best tasting suit of armor a knight could ever dream of wearing! Then Then THEN They give you a cup of consume which is the strained liquid that the beef was braising in all day so you can dip the tacos in it! These are the best tacos in OKC and it ain't close! My wife's birthday was last Friday, and she wanted to go out for dinner to celebrate and try something new. We decided to take a chance on Birriería Díaz. It was truly amazing. The restaurant is a modest-looking storefront--not a fancy place, but not dirty or unappealing location, either (see picture). The owner came and sat a plate in the middle of the table with what I could describe as a fried corn tortilla sandwich with lots of cheese (think of a quesadilla with corn tortillas). He called the a "suegra" (mother-in-law). I was hooked...it was good. I'd go back just for that! I had a plate of birria (a stewed goat-meat dish--also available made with beef), and my wife had the carne de puerco). The food was excellent, and the portions were ample enough that we took half of the food home. The prices were also very reasonable. When the owner found out that it was my wife's birthday, he told the waitess to bring her a dessert--she chose the flan. Wow...delicious. We live out in Pauls Valley, but this place is worth the trip! We were delighted and enjoyed it so much. read more

We're from out of town and were checking things out at The Rink, a giant antique store in an old Ice Rink and needed to grab some grub. We pulled up the Yelp and found Birrieria Diaz and made our way over. It's not your average southwest Tex Mex fare, it's authentic south of the border Mexican cuisine. We thought we'd be alone in the restaurant since we rolled in there around 2pm but the joint was packed with regulars, families and working dudes hungry from a full morning of labor. There were tons of different authentic offerings, we opted for a couple of lunch specials which were more than enough food for mid-day. Salsa and Chips and a small cup of queso were brought to the table while we waited along with limes. I wanted to swerve out of my normal lane and get the Brrierzia (a mexican stew with vegetables) but stayed with the lunch special. Everything we had was good and everything we saw being brought to the other tables looked equally as good. The homemade corn tortillas were excellent. Street parking is along the front, so be careful as you back out to leave-the road is busy! If we find ourselves in Bethany again we'd go back. This hole in the wall is a must. We came specifically for the quesabirria tacos, and they did not disappoint. The meat was tender, the tacos were cheesy, and the consumé was flavorful. So wrong, but this place is so right. This place is 100% authentic Mexican food just like in Mexico. If you had their menu laying down next to any menu from Mexico they would be almost identical. All the typical real Mexican favorites that I LOVE & NO ONE ELSE HAS. However, now all that has changed. There is now ONE Mexican restaurant in OKC that is bloody worthy & it's so good it blew me mind. BLEW ME MIND!!! The best Michelada in OKC. They don't have the ones with shrimp but they do make a regular Michelada that is killer. KILLER!!! Oysters on the menu! Ceviche on the menu, just like in Mexico!! Oysters on the half shell, perfectly shucked & presented on ice, the cleanest I think I have ever seen. A work of art. Mojarra frita & Giant fish filets so fresh & cooked so perfectly omg :)... I tried to eat the whole thing but it was MASSIVE & I had to take half to go. And that proved still not enough as I had to go back the very next day to order MORE. And it was again, MASSIVE & MIND BLOWING. The free salsa that comes out is meh. Order the green one with the avocado OMG, it's pure heavenly. A good medium heat, not hot, just right. WOW. and the habanero salsa?! HOLY CHIT HOMIE. That salsa will burn your face off, don't get it on your hands & go to the bathroom FYI ouchie is a understatement. The second day I visited the owner brought me out a big bowl bc I went on & on about how good it was. Juan, The owner, is the sweetest guy with the sunniest, friendliest, most beautiful smile I have ever encountered. His whole staff was so warm & so sweet! What a cool dude. You can tell he LOVES what he does & is very passionate about his restaurant & his food. They even make their own chicharones (cracklings) I saw many buying them. Yep, this is the real deal folks. What a cool place with totally comfy booths & good vibes all around. And now I'm MOVING?! How did this happen?! ( crying crying crying crying crying) why why why why (more sobbing) I plan on visiting as much as possible before I move. ALL that packing & shit, I'm going to need lots & lots & lots of Michelada's & mojarra Frita, MASSIVE pieces of fish for my fish tacos, oh & that pollo fundido omg YUM!!!! :)... The parking streetfront is limited but the parking lot in rear has lots of space. They are open till 9:30! Wow!!! This place is amazing!!! The food was the best I have had in Oklahoma ever!!!! Not a bland dish on the menu. The chilis green and red actually have spice! The inside is small but plenty of tables. The wait staff is always really friendly and accommodating. Hubby and I have tried something different every time and have not be disappointed. This has been on my list of places to visit in bethany for awhile. I did stop in a while ago for breakfast but had never been by for lunch or dinner. I went to lunch with a friend and she said we had to get the white queso dip. There are meats you can add but we stuck with the original and oh my goodness DELICIOUS! Probably one of the best white queso dips I've ever had! On this trip I ordered the enchiladas cheese inside for one, shredded beef in one, and chicken in the other, rice and beans and I was pleased. I went back and ordered dinner to go and once again had the enchiladas and was just as pleased as the first time I had them. I of course got that white queso and it will be the death of all diets haha. It's so worth it! This place is always busy and I highly recommend it! It really is amazing for all breakfast, lunch, and dinner needs, eat in or take out it's all delicious. I should have written this review when I went as I can't find any of my food photos. We just ate here for the second time. It was amazing the first time and some how got even better. We ordered the lamb birria tacos and an order of the Juan beans. To drink we had the michelada and it was hands down the best I've had. My daughter ordered the chicken quesadillas and loved them. She is somewhat of a picky eater and finished her whole plate. Others at the table ordered the enchiladas and taco platters and all said they tasted great. It was a little crowded but we did go at dinner time on a Friday. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The location is small and a little tight but that adds to the overall experience. I would highly recommend this place and I am confident you will enjoy whatever you order. But, definitely try the Micheladas dressed with lime and Tajin! read more

Very authentic Mexican food! Birrieria Diaz is the only restaurant in the OKC metro that serves birria, to my knowledge! Birria is stewed meat that is wonderfully spiced and served with a huge amount of toppings and sides. I have also had fajitas and the chili rellano here- both excellent. I'm a personal fan of mangonadas (frozen mango margarita with a chili powder rim and tamarind drizzle + coated straw. Their queso (ordered extra, not to be confused with the complementary one) is OUT OF THIS WORLD. It's a lovely creamy cheese sauce with your choice of meat included. My husband's birria taco had a sharp bone fragment in it. Eventually our server apologized and comped us the one offending taco. We asked how often this happens. She said she has never had a bone in the birria before. So we are just very unlucky I guess. I've had birria at least a dozen times in four states, never had a bone in it until now. I tried a few tacos all of which tasted pretty good but had issues. First, the tortillas here are kinda stiff and processed. Asada was on the dry side and chopped too fine for my liking. It was difficult to keep it in the tortilla. Lengua was tougher than it should be and cut like asada. I could have sworn it was just asada meat. They do the complimentary chips, salsa and queso setup in an attempt to bring in Okies. Chips are too thick and hard, need salt. Salsa a very tasty fresca with just the right amount of heat. "Queso" is a weird translucent gel, far removed from any cheese..But it had some diced peppers mixed in for some decent flavor. Service for the most part was genial and fairly attentive. But no one paid much attention to our bone issue until it was time to pay. He dropped it on the counter in front of her and there was no more ignoring it. They had a lot of servers for this small of a room, but it was a busy Sunday afternoon. It is a popular spot with Mexican locals, so you know they are doing it authentic.
