So this is my favorite Indian restaurant in Oakland/East Bay, HOWEVER, I ordered two nights ago and the naan was hard (not the plain, but all the flavored ones), and the food was especially oily. I'm not sure what happened. I will say you must get the onion naan (though sometimes too thick, it's amazing), Shahi Paneer (sweeter than Paneer Tikka Masala but very similar), and Chicken Jalfrezi. read more

Place a to go order and was told it would be ready in 25 minutes then after getting off the phone I arrived 30 minutes after placing the order. When I got there the order was still not ready plus waiting another half an hour. The staff did not even apologize for the delay or even gave me an updated about the delay. I also asked for extra container of curry sauce - just sauce with no meat and they charge me the cost of a chicken curry entree. Really if you were going to charge a customer as a whole entree you should let the customer know. I do not mind paying for it but to pay a whole entree just for sauce is really not good business. I would never go back to this establishment just because they are not very honest with their customers. read more

This place has very good chicken biryani and tandoori chicken. I didn't have very high expectation before coming here because it's attached to a hotel. How good can a hotel restaurant get, right? My husband wanted Pakistani/Indian food, and that was the closest at the time... I was very impressed with the quality of the spices and the juiciness of the chicken. I stopped in for some appetizers for lunch today. This is a small restaurant adjacent to the Ramada hotel. It is an unassuming restaurant, but the food is quite tasty. There is complementary self-service chai available by the kitchen. We had the samosas and the mixed veggie pakora. The samosas were stuffed with creamy potatoes and green peas and served with a chickpea sauce. The filling was nicely spiced and the exterior was fried crisp. The chickpea sauce added another punch and creaminess. The pakoras were fried crisp and well seasoned, but less spicy than the samosas. The service was efficient as the restaurant was quite busy with the lunchtime crowd. Overall, the food is good with very reasonable prices. I will definitely come back to sample more of the food. read more

Stopped by Biryani Kabab at a strange hour on a Tuesday (closer to 4pm), so we unfortunately missed the lunch special and it was a little early for dinner. So props to this spot for being open! The advantage was being that we had the restaurant nearly to ourselves. My first impression walking in was that the restaurant was immaculate. It even smelled clean! The dining area is on the smaller side but there are many tables available. Can't say if there's a wait during peak hours, but we were served immediately. The hostess/server gave us waters right away and made herself readily available to take our orders. We ordered naan, garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and baingan bartha. Food was served quickly from the time we ordered. I found their naan to be A+, I really favor naan that has a certain texture - balancing the crispiness with the plush, pillowy dough portions. This place has got it! The garlic naan was pleasantly garlicky without being overwhelming. I'm pretty garlic obsessed so I could have done with a tad more, but this was absolutely sufficient to get my fix. The tikka masala was tasty, but I wasn't particularly taken by it. There was something lacking or an element that was a bit too much for me ... I can't quite describe it. The portion was solid. I appreciated the level of heat to the baingan bartha, not overly oily, a good balance of creaminess with the chunks of eggplant, but it doesn't beat my favorite spots in Fremont, San Jose, and Mountain View. I was a bit disappointed I never got a water refill considering how empty the restaurant was, but the chai was freely available & the best way to end the meal! I'm hesitant to dismiss this spot, because their quality was decent, I just was not blown away but some of that may be due to how I ordered. I wish they had a buffet or thali available so I could try a wider variety of dishes. May try it another time if I'm in the area. read more

Lunch here on the weekdays are so pack!! They are always busy and it is very small inside so it feels so cramped. They have 2 tables outside with 2 seats per table. Lunch special is $10.99 for an entree, side salad, rice and one piece of naan. To upgrade the naan to a cheese naan, it's $1.49 extra. I think it's good price for what you get but I honestly don't like their food that much. Flavors are bland and the oil separates. The naan is also very soggy and not the crispy kind. But my coworker loves coming here so we come here at least twice a month. read more

Be aware that the butter chicken sauce is more on the lighter side rather than a thick consistency. Some (not all) pieces in the butter chicken were a bit dry. Still 10/10 for me. The naan was okay, the samosas were AIGHT -- and the chicken jalfrezi where I got most of the spice! First time trying this place today with my coworkers. Small place, can get packed easily. Pretty excited to see that they have Friday lunch specials (I believe they were all $10.99). Choice of entree from the list, with naan, salad, and rice. Got the chicken tikka masala lunch special. Pretty good. A little more soupy than I'm used to, but flavor was there. Portions were generous. Also ordered a side order of samosas. The chickpeas that came on the plate was delicious. Service was decent for a place that got busy real quick. I was walking around hungry after a meeting and saw this place and walked right in without Yelping it first! (I know, right?) I was warmly greeted and shown to a seat. The seating area was comfortable and there were plenty of seating. Decor both outside and inside is understated. Decided on the Tikka Masala lunch special, which was a good call. Sauce was right on, chicken was cooked right, and it came with rice, salad, and a basket of Naan. All good! I came here for a company lunch the other day to celebrate one of my colleague's retirement. My boss already ordered the dishes before we came in, so I don't really remember every dish we got. However, I was a big fan of the cheese naan and the chicken tikka masala. I used the chicken tikka masala as dip for my cheese naan and it's pretty tasty! I believe my boss ordered everything medium spicy and it was spicy enough for me, but I think a lot of my other coworkers thought it was too spicy. Just a regular Indian restaurant. I didn't think anything too special of it. I wish my boss ordered the palak paneer curry because that's my favorite. Oh well, maybe next time if I ever decide to come back on my own time. The lunch is plated well - there were more than 3 colors on the plate, the plate and silverware were spotless. It came out fast. Most importantly, it was $12+ tip for curry, rice, salad, naan, and ice water. the Burgerking on the next block is about $10-12, which makes this place a serious bargain. But the food is just OK. is it as good as Vik's? No, not even close. Is it as good as Annapurna, a few blocks away? nope. I do not believe that anyone would disagree with that. It is cheaper than either, and if you work in the area, this is a solid lunch option. But don't drive here thinking you will get amazing food, this is a value lunch place. read more

My boyfriend and I were in the other day for take-out and it was not a great experience. The food ended up being good, but the service was very unpleasant. While ordering, the waitress acted as if she could not understand me when I ordered lamb vindaloo. She INSISTED that I point at the item on the menu. After I did, I asked her if I pronounced it wrong and how it should be pronounced, but she said that she didn't know and it was her second day. We ordered TO GO when we walked in. That was why I grabbed the take-out menu when we walked in. The waitress gave us the regular menus and said that they would be easier for my eyes. We were given glasses of water as we waited for our order, and she came back to tell us that we couldn't just order ala carte (as the menu said). So we ordered sides. Then, she brought out my dish plated, not to go. It was ongoing strangeness and I won't be back. We both ended up with intestinal distress. Freshness you can smell, see & taste! It's definitely worth the price because their Samosas were absolutely delicious. Crispy, clean, fresh taste but a surprise spice that creeps up on you. Of you can't handle spicy food, I don't recommend the Samosas. For someone that loves occasional spiciness, I could just tolerate it. Delicious but fair warning! I visited Oakland yesterday with a friend and we did a quick Yelp search on Indian restaurants nearby, and on a whim we decided on going to Biryani Kabab. It's a cute and small local place, and upon entering the owners greeted us warmly and let us pick where we wanted to sit. The menu has an array of Indian-Pakastani dishes, variety of Biryanis, curry dishes and Indian beverages to choose from. Biryani Kabab has something to offer for everyone, if you are vegetarian or eat halal this place accommodates all of that. We ordered a lamb curry, butter chicken, vegetable biryani, cheese naan, and garlic naan. The order was ready in less than 15 minutes and came out hot and fresh. The flavour of the lamb curry was so rich and flavourful and tasted so authentic, and the butter chicken was creamy and delicious. The biryani had an assortment of vegetables with a great balance of flavours. The cheese naan was absolutely delicious as well as the garlic naan which had the perfect garlic flavour. At the end of the absolutely perfect meal the waitress offered us complimentary chai which was piping hot and had a great blend of spices, Overall I would highly recommended this restaurant, great environment, great people, and amazing food. read more
