Delicious and affordable indian food. They have good combo option where you can get two types of entrees for around $20 -- always a great option so I can have a bit of each rather than committing to one big dish for 2 like at other spots. The portions are also pretty generous and includes a nan or other bread if your choice. We also order them for take out often and the food is always still fresh and fast. My only con is that the spice levels are not the most consistent -- I usually get a medium spice level and some times its very spice and others extremely mild. read more

We ordered pick up and the food was really good- picked up the food in the kitchen, so don't think this is a sit down restaurant but we also ordered at 8:30pm. We started with samosas- they were good, nothing to write home about, and they were small. But taste was there! Chicken Tikka Masala was smooth and creamy! We ordered it medium but didn't taste any spice. If you like spice- recommend ordering it spicy, I will be trying that next time! Also got the lamb vindaloo- spicy, this was SOOO good. And the potatoes were a nice add. Last, we got the garlic cilantro naan, also good. Just overall, good and consistent Indian. I recently tried Taava Kitchen as I was craving Indian food and it did not disappoint! Since the food is prepared fresh, it took about 10 minutes for me to be able to pick up my order. This is a small restaurant so customers would just order to go. I tried a couple things - the papadum and the channa masala. The papadum was crispy and I loved the roasted cumin flavor that complemented the spices. The channa masala had a kick to it which surprised me, but I loved it! You can really taste the ginger, cardamom, and bold flavors with each bite. I can tell they have really honed in on their recipes and representing the delicious cuisine. I am really late writing this review, but I ordered takeout from Taava Kitchen after seeing they were participating in Oakland Restaurant Week. I got saag paneer, paneer tikka masala, plain naan, and vegetable samosas and requested for a mild spice level. (They were out of mango lassi at the time, which I'd been hoping to get.) It was a decent amount of food for the price. I see that Taava now is on the Too Good to Go app as well. The samosas were a bit spicy for me as someone who has a pretty weak spice tolerance. The paneer tikka masala was really tomato heavy (more so than my preference), I felt it could've used more dairy to balance out the flavor. The saag paneer was alright, but I wished both the paneer tikka masala and saag paneer had more paneer in it. The naan was fine, nothing particularly stood out to me about it. read more

I've been on the hunt for a go-to Indian spot and I think I've found it in Taava Kitchen. My daughter and I stopped in for takeout on a Saturday night and watched everything being prepared. We ordered widely (I may have gone a touch overboard given we're a family of three): Daal makhani Chicken tikka masala Chicken korma Momos Samosas Kebab Naan All of it packed a flavor punch and the items I ordered medium spicy for my husband and me were exactly that. He told me the chicken korma was just what he was looking for. Wow! This place is SO tasty! I just discovered them through Doordash. My order arrived fresh and hot. It was a good size and included two entree options along with naan and rice, which is honestly what most people are trying to get and it's hard as a solo eater, but this option, makes it work. Delicious food and super kind and friendly staff. We tried: The masala dosa Chicken curry Tandoori bites (lamb and our fav) Turmeric lemonade Everything was flavorful and comforting. We ate inside and were able to see everything freshly made. There are three tables inside. Note the spot does a lot of take out so eating inside means eating out of take out boxes but it doesn't take away from the quality of the food. Food is very fresh, made to order, and delicious. A neighborhood find of a restaurant that opened less than a year ago. Service is fast and friendly. The naan is so good when dipped in the daal. I had the 2 items plate with lamb vindaloo, chicken korma, rice and plain naan. My daughter had the kabobs, moist and very tasty, and also the garlic naan. I can't rave enough about this place! From top to bottom, such a great experience my wife and I had while in town visiting some family and stopping by for dinner. Customer service by the young man, whose name I forgot right now, hopefully he knows I'm shouting him out. Was very sweet, as quick as can be given he was the only server for both dine in and pick up. Their a small kitchen, so the wait was a while but definitely worth it. We ordered a good handful of different menu items. Everything was so delicious and flavorful it was nuts! The curry chicken was probably my favorite, though I loved everything. Ordered from this spot for delivery through DoorDash. It was delivered promptly. Got food for dinner for me and my partner. We shared the tandoori hot wings with jalapeno dip. We wanted something spicy and the jalapeno dip intrigued us. We were torn between the tandoori hot wings and regular tandoori chicken, but the pictures of the wings looked so good, we went with that. It did not disappoint! The chicken was crispy and had a slight kick. The star of the show was the delicious jalapeno ranch dip. We also shared the original butter chicken with a garlic cilantro naan. The butter chicken was not too sweet bor salty, and the creaminess held up so well. It would've been great with rice too. The naan was hot and soft; there was a perfect amount of garlic on it. It was also huge so we were glad to have shared one since we had wings as an appetixer, although you can totally eat one on your own. I'd recommend this spot for sure! read more

I was really craving Indian food and saw it on Uber Eats and decided to give it a try because my issue when ordering Indian food for one person as I end up having too much food and I saw they had a plate where it came with naan and then rice and then I could get two entrées so I got the chicken, tiki masala and the abi Gobi and let me just say it was phenomenal and just the right amount of food I was able to eat it for leftovers later in the day as well. We just had a Tuesday night dinner and the food was delicious! We had the Tandoori Tikka Kabab with tamarind chutney, the Saag Panner, and the Aloo Masala Naan. Each dish was a five star. It was cold but we wanted to eat dinner on their nice outdoor patio tables which are located in the Forage Kitchen incubator event space, that is away from the street. Their venue ambiance is way better outside than most parklets. Their staff was so caring that it was delightful. Even though Taava is oriented towards takeout and deliveries, he came out with water right away. He turned a heat lamp on for us when he noticed it being cold. The chef came out and to check if we were happy. We showered him with praise for his food. We have also taken out twice from here and the food has been consistently at this high level. They have Achar Curry and it's delicious, not every place has it and theirs is better than a few other spots. Delivery has been consistent and reliable. I tried the fenugreek curry and it has a bit of an herby almost Italian tomato sauce flavor - good but unexpected. Their vindaloo is also tasty, and their lamb is melt-in-your-mouth tender. The naan was standard in flavor but nicely portioned. Definitely crisp it up in the oven or air fryer if you can, much much better. Overall, a solid spot. read more

Just ordered takeout from here and it was incredible. Everything we ordered was flavorful, well made, and high quality. The makhani (butter chicken) was awesome. Sometimes it can be easy to lose focus on the chicken when the real star is the curry, but here the chicken itself was really juicy and tender. I also loved the naan. While other Indian places I've tried serve Naan that's a bit tough or dry, Taava's was fluffy and had a perfect chew. They really didn't neglect any aspect of any dish. We also ordered the samosas, vindaloo, and chana masala. All were great. Medium spice, but I might go spicier next time. Looking forward to trying more of their offerings in the future and visiting the restaurant in person! read more

Only reviewing food, ordered with Doordash. We ordered two curries, both tasted great but had way too little protein. The Chicken Tikka Masala was tasty, but it only had maybe three small pieces of chicken. The Paneer Makhani was on the tomatoey side, could have used more cream, and, again, it only had very little protein, maybe 5 small pieces of tofu. This was kind of interesting, most Indian places I find tend to put too much protein in their dishes, and I really like the sauces. This one erred on the other side. A bit more protein, and maybe a little bit less salt, and it would be amazing. read more

The food was disappointing. Everything ordered was swimming in a massive amount of similar-tasting curry. The photo of mixed vegetables dish on the website is of dry veggies, but what we got was about 2/3 gravy and 1/3 vegetables. Fenugreek (which traditionally is a dry dish) with chicken had large amounts of gravy as well, and it was hard to even notice the fenugreek. On the plus side, the the food was not stomach upsetting, which I was somewhat prepared for given the looks of it. The area lacks any other Indian restaurant and I was hoping the food would be good. Really want to love this place but have to dock points for the tandoori wrap which completely falls apart and leaks liquid everywhere if you try to eat it in wrap form. Taava staff: please check out how a burrito or wrap is actually assembled, otherwise you will end up with a lot of disappointed / frustrated customers!! This place is take out/delivery only and reasonably priced, which is great for this area full of high density apartment buildings, first Friday festivities and other nighttime events downtown. It's tucked away inside Forage Kitchen, which is a kind of culinary collective kitchen. The onion cilantro naan smelled so good I had to eat some while driving home. This place has been hands down my favorite desi halal food in Oakland/Berkeley area since it opened years ago. However today's experience was disappointing. Their location moved from Forage Kitchen to a kitchen take out spot so it left me and my out of town guests scrambling to find a place to sit and eat. The rice pilaf with veggies used to be my go to for kids, but today, that plus raita was so spicy! So kids couldn't eat anything but naan. The kabobs today were just chili peppered skewers of meat rather than the flavorful lamb kabobs we usually order. The biryani lacked the amazing flavors that made this place excellent. The butter chicken was solid but again, no flavors that rock your world like they used to. The matter paneer was tomatoe based instead of creamier. The naans were all solid (we ordered a variety including the stuffed naan). Overall, today the food was meh but I wouldn't go back. Not sure if the chef changed or new ownership happened. But since their location, food containers, and flavors have changed, I'm guessing something is off. read more
