I decided to check this place out as it is in my neighborhood, and I will probably return for the good deals and flavors. The menu was full of clearly labelled vegan options. We ordered the samosas, which were tasty and average. We also got the pakoras, which were very spicy and quite overcooked. The chutneys they came with were somewhat bland. For the entrees, we got chana masala and aloo mattar. Both very very tasty and well spiced, but had way too much oil! There was like a centimeter of oil sitting on top of each dish which was somewhat unappealing. The restaurant was clean and spacious, and the service was fast and friendly. This place is also very reasonably priced. Overall- a fine Indian spot with good flavors, but way too much oil and mediocre appetizers. Met up with my friend here for our monthly get together. She tells me she eats here for lunch quite frequently, so she wanted me to try it out. I got there about 6:30pm. Parking was okay to find. The front areas are a bit tricky because it looks like parking spots, but then again they don't. When I walked in there was only one other table occupied. The girl pleasantly greeted and seated me. The menu has a lot of delicious looking options, so many it got a bit overwhelming. I wish we could have ordered more, but it was just the 2 of us, so we definitely couldn't order too much. We ordered: Samosas- Decent tasting. I feel that they could be a little more crispy. I believe it they came with a side of garbanzo beas which were really tasty. The beans had a kick to them. Chicken tikka masala- Also decent in flavor. We asked for extra spicy, but I didn't feel any heat at all. It was creamy and the chicken was very good. I liked the thickness of it, but it was a bit bland. It would've been even better if it had a little more flavor. Shrimp biryani- Really tasty! I usually don't care for this type of rice because it has too much going on with the spices, but this might be the one that gets me hooked. We asked for extra spicy and we got the heat. It was sooooo gooddddd! The shrimps were a very good size as well. Mango lassi- It is thick, warm, and sweet as I expected. I believe thats just how it is. I usually don't care for it at the beginning, but as the ice melts and the drink gets colder I am able to enjoy it more. This place has some of the better Biryani's in the Oakland/Alameda area. Though they make Indian and Pakistani food, it actually managed and run (perhaps owned) by Nepalese folks. It is not to be confused with Biryani Tikka Kabob- which I was told opened after these guys, is not affiliated, and is located down the road, which I found odd. They stay consistently busy! I would warn that parking can be a hassle, but you can find places around the area. The restaurant itself is clean and cozy. Service is nothing to brag about- don't expect to be waited on too much or for them to go above and beyond. They may even give you dirty looks or make comments (in Nepali) if it's too late in evening, but their food is good so it works. I have yet to find a place with better Chicken Biryani and Raitha near Alameda- theirs is not the sweet kind. Be sure to get samosa, too! read more

If you are looking for a quick meal, stay far far away from Biryani Kabab. On a Friday night, I submitted a pickup order via the Yelp/Grubhub app two and a half hours ahead of time. When I arrived, I was told it would be just five minutes, when in fact the kitchen had yet to start on my order. My strategically timed pickup order ended up taking an hour to come out. While I waited, I observed delivery couriers leaving the restaurant frustrated without their orders and dine-in customers receiving the wrong food. It would have been much better to turn off the delivery apps than cause such unreasonable delays for all customers. Now about the food -- what we all really care about. The butter chicken and baingan bharta lacked depth of flavor compared to most other Indian restaurants. I did enjoy the palak chicken. Exceptional food! You can't go wrong. The tikka masala (chicken and prawn) is great. The palak dishes are delicious. The lamb palak is my favorite of those. And I get Tiger Wings all the time. Looked at the Yelp reviews before going and Yelpers gave it 4-5 stars so knew it'll be good. They have lunch specials and asked the girl which I should pick, she said Chicken Tikka Masala. I liked the sauce, some chicken pieces were dry. Came with some salad, rice, and regular naan. You gotta ask for Green Chutney, Ranch dressing, and Yogurt!! I didn't ask for Yogurt and knew it'll be good, tried it later to take home and liked it. FREE Chai up in front, help yourself. Bathroom is a shared bathrooms with other tenants and might need code. I haven't had Indian food in ages, so I hopped over for a bite. I ended up going with the Lamb Vindaloo. The lamb was incredibly tender, as were the potatoes, and the vindaloo was spicy and aromatic. Goat karahi wasn't karahi at all, I wanted the flavors of tomato and peppers expertly compounded with goat to create a tantalizing and savory dance of flavors for my palette, but what I received was more of a goat nihari with sour notes. Portion was cool but wasn't karahi. Lamb tikka boti was charred tough, I'm down with that but not to the point where the meat is hella dry and chewy. The whole point of proper tandoori is to impart a smokey flavor with slight char while retaining maximum juiciness/tenderness of the meat. They missed with that one fam. The naans were on point I must say. Properly sized and perfect amount of fluff and flavor. Shorty had me try the onion naan , delectable. Cheese naan is a minor obsession so I tackled that quick. The lamb was cooked perfectly, it was tender and had the right amount of juice/moisture. The garlic naan was pricey though. For $2.99, you get one piece naan that's cut into four pieces. I was hoping that there would be 2 pieces of naan or refills, but nope, you get one. I really appreciate the complimentary chai they offer. This is usually my favorite part of the meal. There are a couple good Indian restaurants in the downtown Oakland area and this is one of them. The food and service are always pleasant and attentive each time I come. They have a rotating list of 3 lunch specials per day that range from $8.99-9.99. Today, I got the chicken jalfarezi which is basically a chicken curry with bell peppers. The lunch specials come with rice, salad and plain naan. The chicken jalfarezi was seasoned well and didn't have a strong curry scent like many other restaurants that I've been to. The salad is nothing special but the naan is great. It always comes out piping hot and has a perfect crsip on outside with being fluffy in the inside. Received my food from grub hub young lady. She hands me my bag of food which is stapled up which is a great thing. My drink a lassi was tampered with by driver. When I asked if drink was in the bag. Highly recommend panner or chicken tikka masala, chicken Makahani, cream pepper chicken, tandoori chicken - make it half for just a dollar more and tandoori prawn, a bit expensive but well worth it.
