Came on a weekday over the holiday period so easily found a parking spot and experienced no line. We got one Johnny Hash and one Gloria Gaynor (I think, they were almost out of bacon and we had to do some modifications, and none of the online menu items seem to match what we had exactly). Overall, pretty good. Biscuits were fluffy. Eggs were great. Gravy was nice but somewhat bland. We found the Johnny Hash to overall lack flavor. The egg one was much better. I think the Johnny Hash was just too many white things (biscuits, potatoes, gravy). Ask for the medium jalepeño amount to get 10...turns out the 10 includes tiny end pieces, so maybe 6 actual slices. It would be better actually if the pieces were smaller and more well-distributed, as it was a bit feast or famine. The veggie sausage was decent but the veggie bacon was weird. Very tough and chewy and not that pleasant to eat. The food overall is not great cold. If I come back, I would probably to keep it simpler, maybe the Donna Summer with salsa or jalepeño added. The potatoes and fake meats don't seem worth the extra cost. It's a creative idea for a food truck though! read more

Yummy food yet be careful of the service. Our second time there to pick up to go and arriving at selected time to wait over 20 minutes. Then today they gave our food to someone else. When I asked about it, the runner said "we are working on it and it can't tell, we are a bit busy." Okay, wow. The Gloria Gaynor is a HUGE serving and delicious. Then again, how can you go wrong with biscuits, egg, cheese, gravy, sausage, and bacon?? Still drooling just thinking about it. I visited Biscuits and Groovy last Sat. for breakfast at 10am. My friend who I was staying with, who's gluten-free, suggested that I try it because it's only a couple of blocks from her apt. and she always sees people outside of it, which is usually a good sign. As someone who's new to the Deep South, I'm always game for trying new-to-me regional specialties (esp. of the breakfast variety), so I ambled over and gave it a try. Despite that it's a food truck, the place was hopping on a Sat. morning, just as my friend reported. After perusing the menu options, I ordered the Johnny Hash ($10.25), and was given a disco ball themed order number sign. Due to the crowd, it was challenging to find a seat at one of the four picnic tables, but one eventually opened up with a group of Austin City Limits concert-goers, who were quite friendly and chatted me up. While this helped pass 30 min. (!), I was quite hungry by the time breakfast was served. Like all of the offerings, the Johnny Hash contains biscuits and country gravy seasoned with black pepper. The key ingredient, as the name suggests, is breakfast potatoes, which are topped with sausage, melted cheese, and scallions. The biscuits, which were fluffy and tender yet filling, were the highlight of the dish, and the potatoes, which were well-seasoned, added additional carbs and variation in texture. The gravy was a bit one-dimensional but tied the dish together well, and the toppings added fatty goodness and kicked the flavor up a notch. Finally, the hand-squeezed orange juice was delicious and refreshing, making for a nice counterpoint to the heaviness of the dish. The reasons for Biscuits and Groovy's popularity are self-evident: A fun theme that fits in with Austin's live music scene and filling, delicious comfort breakfast food. Although I enjoyed the food, I can't justify a rating above 3.5 stars because I felt that the price point was rather high for the portion size and quality, and the 30 min. wait was excessive. (Yes, I realize that I probably visited at the busiest possible time, but still...) While I'd return if a friend wanted to go, I'd probably seek out a quicker and less expensive or higher quality alternative if given the choice for Sat. morning breakfast in Austin again. 3.5 stars. read more

I ordered the "Aretha" and it's as full of soulful goodness as it's namesake. Thick, crispy bacon, savory sausage bits, s&p gravy and pepper jack cheese. The pepper jack is a little weak, but the scallions add some fun. The outdoor seating is somewhat limited, so consider the weather. I don't think you can go wrong with take-out, though. Another fine food truck for Austin, Texas! This is a biscuits and gravy truck at Duval and 51st near the Flight Path. It attracts the same cool crowd that hangs out in the Flight Path. And you get conferred coolness just from sitting at their picnic tables and eating their biscuits. You may be a harried single mother flunking out of Austin Community College and in trouble with your job as a cashier at HEB. But at Biscuits and Groovy, the world thinks you make rock documentaries Like everyone else at all the other tables. * How is the food? Absolutely First rate - but it is the Groovy Gravy that does the job and not the Biscuits. The biscuits are perfectly fine. But in the biscuit world, there are legendary biscuits as well as perfectly fine biscuits - Biscuits that are opium, heroin and oral sex all rolled together - Biscuits that make the rest of the meal irrelevant. Biscuits and Groovy has good biscuits, but the rest of the meal still matters. * Their gravy, however ... O My God. * Most sausage gravy//the white stuff they put on chicken fried steaks is either mediocre or inedible. Normal in this case means thin watery paste flavored with industrial quantities of stale black pepper dumped straight out of a year old pepper shaker. The black pepper is supposed to cover for the white sauce which has no taste - except that the black pepper itself tastes bad. * Biscuits and Groovy makes a suave creamy seductive white sauce. It isn't sweet but it is so creamy that it would make a perfectly adequate base for a dessert pudding. To this admirable pot of loving comfort, they add fresh strong but suave white pepper - pepper which really tastes like something. If you get one of the manifestations that has peppered bacon (and I strongly recommend that you do), a lot of the coarse black pepper from the bacon falls into the sauce. The coarseness means that a lot of the black pepper has not been exposed to air the way salt shaker black pepper gets exposed and degraded. So the bacon black pepper has the full taste of black pepper. This is one of the ONLY dishes I have had where the black and white pepper play well with the cream sauce. The result is delightful. * Oh - and for the record, the sausage, and scallions and other stuff they put on the biscuits taste good too. * My one regret is that they have apparently stopped making the homemade jams that were once designed to go on the biscuits. The flavors on the jam flavor list looked intriguing, so I hope they bring back this other side of their operation. * Overall, a first rate place to eat a Hyde Park Austin Breakfast. You can start your morning like a legendary electronica artist, before the rest of your day takes its normal course and you flunk your calculus exam at ACC and get demoted to bagger at HEB. read more

Huge portion (aka you will need a nap after) so I couldn't eat it all but the biscuits here are legit and the toppings just add to dish. Also it was nice to find a breakfast option without eggs. I know that sounds weird to some but I don't really like eggs. Overall: Yay! Good place. Wish they had a south option but I'm sure they have their hands full with this place.
