My husband and I rarely try new places in town. He requested soup and a wrap so, the reviews on this place seemed to fit the bill. I'm so glad we went and we will be back! I thought they only served frozen yogurt, which they do, even tofu versions. This place is a hit with vegetarians and vegans. They proudly boast that they have no fryolators and that everything is made fresh. Large soup menu that I need to try more of this winter. The sandwiches are huge! Great alternative to a sub shop. The atmosphere was cool and I was happy to hear they are open until 11, since the sidewalk folds up in Gloucester mostly at 9 or earlier. We ate here today- myself, my husband and my (almost) 4 year old. The sandwiches are amazing. Seriously delicious! I can't remember the names of our sandwiches now, figures lol but my son got a grilled cheese sandwich which came with chips and a sliced up banana. He was excited about the banana, and the plate of food looked so appealing and cute! The guy who maybe owns the place? Was super nice. Really sweet! I wish I asked his name. Anyhow- the music was great too, low key and relaxing. The whole vibe of this cafe was just what I was looking for. Free wifi as well, and about 5 tables and a couch as far as seating. Great place with a ton of sandwich options. We will definitely be back, I have more sandwiches to try! Really good little shop with a huge interesting sandwich menu with great bread and quality ingredients. Staff is lovely, prices are fair. We had a French onion soup, Italian wedding soup and half sandwich combo. Had the half pressed prosciutto with fresh mozzarella, and tomato on focaccia. Half sandwich is huge. Colossal sandwiches...My daughter loves the #35 pannini mozerella, tomatoe and basil. My sophisticated son says the corned beef is unsurpassed, soups are homemade and yummy. I personally love the fact that they serve dairy-free tofu based softserve and can swirl in about 20 different flavors. This place definitely has it's ups and downs, but overall I always enjoyed my visits. That being stated, if you do not like hot weather or loud conversation it might not be the place for you. The place has poor air circulation and it would get quite hot when I would go there in the winter, so I can only imagine what it would be like come summertime. Also, the owners are there quite often, sometimes with their kids, and well... the conversation can become quite loud at times. I always found that a good set of headphones would do the trick, unless the conversation was being aimed at me, which happened from time to time. Definitely socialable people. I won't say my order was right all the time because it wasn't (though when pointed out was always fixed with apologies and a smile), I won't say that when my headphones were off I wouldn't get irritated by the repetitive music or the sometimes loud conversations that would interrupt my train of thought, but I will say that absent minded or no, they care about your happiness with their order and that goes a long way with me. Free wifi is good too and they're open late! The froyo is indistinguishable from ice cream and you can mix -anything- in there! I had the misfortune of picking a few toppings that they seemed to be regularly out of stock on, but there are so many other choices that it was no biggie. One of the greatest places to eat in Gloucester, Such a change for this resident! I know that everyone in Gloucester says Mike's is the place to go, but as they have gotten bigger the service is lacking making it a less desirable place to go. Cafe Bishco has fantastic service, the freshest foods and VARIETY, something this town needed. If you like turkey- Try the Revolution it is to die for... AND anything with their bacon is incredible, they have the best bacon I have ever encountered. There is something for everyone and has a good variety of vegan and vegetarian friendly options. Prices are reasonable. I personally recommend the birthday cake frozen yogurt as well as coffee Nutella froyo! Delicious! They also usually have homemade cookies at the front that are delicious. For sandwiches I usually like the chicken cutlet with lettuce tomato pickles and cheese or the Boston college (chicken salad, bacon, lettuce tomato). Never had a bad meal here!They just got a mean Mac n cheese too! Parking can be challenging in the downtown area so I would recommend parking elsewhere and walking over. The female owner is very kind and sweet, but her husband can come off as loud, crass & a little rude at times, which is why I didn't give Bishco the full 5 stars that their food probably deserves. But I think my favorite items on the menu have to be their beef & chicken teriyaki wraps, eggplant parm wrap, meatball sandwich, beef chili, & honestly, their chicken salad sandwich on foccia is not to be rivaled (I recommend adding lettuce, onion & cucumbers to this sandwich)! Cafe Bishco is a definite must whether you live in, or are visiting, Gloucester. We were in town for a day trip, we walked right by, and almost didn't go in because it was such an unassuming place. We are so happy we turned around and went in, though! The prices were relatively cheap, especially when compared to the excellent quality and quantity of food we got. I ordered the smoked salmon with goat cheese and capers on a french roll while my partner ordered the BLT on multigrain bread. The salmon sandwich was absolutely delicious, with copious amounts of salmon and just the right amount of cheese. My partner said his BLT was the best he has ever had in his life, and my man eats a lot of BLTs! I wish there was a place like this in my neighborhood. read more
