Today while day tripping to the Coast of Cape Ann we stopped in here for lunch, they are open but take away only because of COVID 19, it was a beautiful day we chose to get out for a drive and sat under a tree on the BLVD and enjoyed our lunch. Many pizza/sub options in this area but Poseidon had some good reviews and the menu sounded yummy. It was. We tried a cheese pizza, delightfully thin crust as it should be. Beer battered onion rings that I think are the BEST I've ever had during any of my travels. Seriously. My daughter had the chicken kabob grinder and was soooo happy with it along with the fries. Perfectly fried. We would def try something else from them while in the area. Once restaurants are back up & open they do have tables inside to sit and eat along with a good assortment of chips. Simple meatball sub was a total disgrace. No sign of any sauce..Absolutely zero flavor ..Tasteless "meatballs" were like mush! We arrived into Rockport exhausted after a red-eye flight the night before. Wanted to order some pizza, nothing in the Rockport area open - so we searched Gloucester. Noticed that Poseidon's had decent reviews so we ordered a large pepperoni and a medium meatball/peppers pizza. The Pepperoni was on hand-tossed dough and was delish. The Meatball was on what looked like a thin-crust and was burned and overly crunchy. Not that great. read more

I'm sorry to give a two star review. I am. So we stopped here to get some pizza! On the plus side , they have slices. But there were a few negatives. My main one is that the place is so hot. I mean it was uncomfortable hot. I guess they don't have AC. It was kind of odd though to walk in and feel like you are in Arizona during the summer. Seriously..it did not make for comfortable dining. Then there is the parking situation which isn't good at all. We had alot of problems finding a place to park. Then there is the pizza. To put it bluntly..it wasn't real tasty. Both my dining companion and I felt the same way. He could not finish his. I did..and while this is far from the worst pizza I have had, it is also far from the best. It was just odd pizza..I cannot even begin to describe it. Couldn't have had a worse experience here. Called and ordered 3 wraps and a steak tip salad. Grilled chicken in the wraps. The girl who took my order read it back 3 times to make sure she got it. Went and picked it up, got home and there's no steak tips on the salad. Called and the girl informs me they don't have steak tips today. Im sorry to say that recently the quality of items I've ordered is poor. Specifically, the chicken Parm subs are now made with the frozen chicken strips full of tendon and other chewy things I don't even want to know what they are. Used to be pretty good - not sure what's happened recently? Ordered steak and cheese, got the DRIEST, unflavored (needed salt or something) food. It was like meat you'd feed to your dog. Husband got one of their specialty pizzas. He said it was okay but barely had any cheese on it. They ran out of chicken? Regular chicken and chicken fingers. Wow, how does that even happen? We love visiting Gloucester, and when we do, we make sure we stop and get pizza from Poseidon's. This corner shop is small, and during Covid there isn't indoor seating, but we got it to go and ate on the lawn by the water across the street. This past Friday evening, we got two of the specialty menu pies: Dill Pickle and the Cheeseburglar. Both were very good and we'd definitely get those again. The crust is perfect, on the thinner side and perfectly crisp without being overdone. I think this is probably the best crust I've ever had on a pizza anywhere. The Cheeseburglar pizza did taste a lot like a particular burger chain's burger. Personally, I would've preferred a little more ground beef on the pizza, but we all agreed it was really tasty. The Dill Pickle pizza was excellent. If you're a pickle fan, definitely try this. The staff was also super-friendly and pleasant, especially considering that they are working in one if the toastiest little pizza joints around. read more

I would give a Zero review if I could. Walked to place an order. Stood there in front of the owner and his young( no so smart) employee, and waited 5 min to even be acknowledge. Almost left, and should have. Ordered two salads, wings and an empanada. Went outside to wait, came back in 4 min later and the same not so bright girl said" can I take your order"? Cheese,butter brushed dough.... that's it. My daughter exclaimed "this is the best food I have ever had, even better than tacos." It was crispy chewy and a lot of goddamn cheese... Every bite is an emotional roller coaster, almost too much flavor going on at time. As you are eating you get a little overwhelmed as this is the first time you tasted perfection... but the magical cheese blend balances off and your like "yes, f*ck yes, more wait wait, ok keep going yes" and that was one bite. You have a long journey to go. Pace yourself. Italian sub: Local baked rolls from a bakery, great cold cuts and fresh vegetables. The lettuce was crispy and green. Not garbage ice burg lettuce like most restaurants. The fine touches are noticed and appreciated greatly. Ive never described an Italian sub as balanced,but this was. Onion rings tasted like onions with a thick crispy batter. Skip the salad and rice pilaf option and double down on the rings. Compromise else where people. When you skim the yelp reviews,the biggest complaints about this place are "no bathroom"or just some nasty Karen made up lies scamming for a coupon. Instead I'm greeted by an employee who rolls her eyes when I walk in because she was going on break and am rudely informed that they don't have that sub and what is on the menu is what they have. A-ok sub/pizza shop right on the water in Gloucester. We stopped here for a quick lunch on a cool Saturday. I chose the grilled chicken parmesan sandwich and my husband got the Italian. It took quite a while waiting for our food since they cooked the chicken fresh, shredded it, added marinara and cheese. It was lacking some salt and more flavor. The "no bathroom" complaint is not fair...they simply do not have one in the building and there are plenty of signs. The pizza is dependable and good. Hands down, best pizza I've had in Gloucester thus far! Poseidon's is right down the street from where we usually stay when we visit Gloucester, and it's always convenient to get to. They have a decent amount of parking space outside the front and sides of the building, but there is also plenty of public parking all around so it's easy to get to if there aren't any festivals or major events going on downtown. The staff is friendly, but most importantly, their pizza is delicious! We've tried a number of their different flavors, but our favorite is the Hades! read more

I really enjoyed my food at Poseidon's when my wife and I stopped in while traveling through Gloucester. It's a pretty cool building and it has a really good view of the ocean adjacent to it. I got a Zeus which is a grinder with french fries, chicken strips, mozzarella sticks, and marinara sauce. This thing was massive and definitely worth the eight dollars. I mean, you can barely go to Subway for eight dollars and you wouldn't get half the food Poseidon's gives. Anyway, it all tasted really good and worked together taste wise. I just know eating more than one a week would definitely pack the pounds on. My wife got a small pepperoni pizza and it was pretty good. Not the best pizza I ever had but it was pretty solid. It was hot and it tasted fresh. I left Poseidon's pretty full and feeling accomplished/ashamed I ate that whole sandwich by myself. It was delicious and actually one of our favorite places we ate at during our honeymoon. Excellent Pizza! Relatively thin crust, but cooked perfectly so it isn't too hard. Great sauce, not overly sweet like some places. Perfect ratio of pepperoni slices to cheese (on the pepperoni pizza, anyways). I highly recommend this place. Be aware there's no parking unless you find something along Western Ave. Also, even before COVID, there isn't much seating space so it's really better to do takeout, or delivery. anyways. I love Poseidon's it is my go to pizza place they do not disappoint with anything I have had. Everything is homemade and delicious. You must have the homemade pita and I LOVE the pizza rolls. To the people that are upset about the bathroom situation their is a sign on their door explaining it, it is a fault of the way the building is built it's not like they have a secret bathroom not just for you. I just downloaded the yelp app so I could write this revue. I am doing a slow burn as I prepare to throw away over 3/4 of a large pizza that I had delivered last night. It was the Poseidon Adventure. It came quickly and hot and the driver was very polite. It had no tomato sauce on it. None. Only 3 pieces were eaten and one of those was only nibbled at. It had no sauce. It tasted weird with no sauce. I didn't call last night because we had to leave shortly after it was delivered. I called this afternoon to find out if it was supposed to have tomato sauce. I was told yes. I said mine didn't have any. She put the owner on the phone who never introduced himself. He basically told me that he didn't know how that could have happened (as if I should know). I hung up and here we are. There was no apology, no offer of a coupon for my next order, just an argument. There is no sauce on it. I have photos. Just remember nameless owner, winter is here and you rely on your neighbors to stay in business. You will not have mine. There are too many local merchants who know how to treat their neighbors. Addendum-I couldn't throw the pizza away, my grandmother would have turned in her grave. I reheated a couple of pieces and discovered that there was sauce on half of the pizza, just not in the side that we started on. If that was the amount of sauce for the whole pizza, it was inadequate even for the half. Wanted to set the record strait. I hate to post bad revues. Learning that the restaurant has tables but no public restrooms and wouldn't make accommodations for a child (from one of the other revues) was distressing. Is that even legal?
