Ordered a large meatball and large Italian subs. The meatball can be described as wheat germ mixed with a little oil and balled up. Was there actually meat in the meatball? I don't know but biting into one, it just became mush with sauce. The sauce tastes canned. The Italian was three layers, one salami and two that didn't resemble and traditional Italian cold cuts but more like spicy baloney. The onions were cut in store but the pickles again seemed like canned chopped pickles. A large sub here is pretty small in size When the worker grabbed the roll I though she was making someone's small Nope It's just a tiny large and averaging $12 each you can find better. The restaurant has been in Gloucester for years and that's why I checked it out but it was not very good unfortunately. read more

It is an old school sub shop. Employees are great, decor is retro, and the value is HUGE. The cheese steak is very different from your modern pizza shops. Destinos has bigger chunks of shaved steak with a black pepper taste. (Almost like a seasoned pot roast.). If you want a break from the tourists, this is the place to go. read more

Just tried Destino's for the first time after a coworker recommended them. I got a small turkey sub for myself (I always do mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato pickle) and a large Italian for my husband. The bread was super fresh, guessing they buy it locally? The turkey breast was fresh as well and sliced thin, which I appreciate. Fixings were basic but plentiful, and the lettuce had a nice crisp to it! Just super yummy all around. As for the Italian, my husband attests it's one of the best he's ever had. The inside is what you'd expect of a North Shore sub shop - a nice old school vibe, as they've been in business for decades. This adds to the charm, IMO. Service was prompt and attentive. I ordered at lunch time over the phone and arrived 8 minutes later and they were ready to go. Will definitely be making another trip back ASAP. read more

If I could give this place a minus I would. Our family were loyal patrons and they used to make generous, fresh subs. We had no idea that ownership had changed hands. It's a shame because they are using the same Destino's name and the food doesn't even come close. Our most recent order was sparse and one sub was literally made with dark brown, smelly, bad roast beef. When we called to give them a heads up (just in case someone else were to eat it and get sick) we were told that the person who made the sandwiches would call us back. Several days went by and we heard nothing. Then we were left a message and called back asking for the manager. The person claiming to be the manager was rude and indifferent. In fact they took no responsibility whatsoever and basically said that they get the meat delivered and it is the way it is. Too bad they lost a handful of customers and are ruining Destino's reputation in the process. Do yourself a favor and spend your money somewhere else! read more

Destinos stepped up and helped us with our fundraiser "A Night of Comedy for Katelyn" benefitting the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. Their food was amazing! Destino's is a classic sub/grinder shop in Gloucester Mass. I grew up eating in places like this and I never get tired of them. The service was exceptional. All the women who waited on me the few times I went here a month ago, were fast, efficient and friendly enough. The guys making the food in the kitchen were also fast and efficient. The menu is on a signboard above the counter and you order in assembly-line fashion. I ordered tuna, Italian and sausage grinders on three different days and all were good. I am sure Destino's is a Gloucester institution and I am glad I found them via Yelp. read more

The salad bar is full of FREE potato salad, pasta salad, cole slaw and macaroni salad. Yes, FREE... for all customers who order a sandwich. Destino's is a very busy lunch spot because of the long tradition of great food for a decent price. They have maintained this tradition for as long as I have visited. Summer is busiest since the amount of beach-goers who visit for lunch or for dinner, after a long day on the beach. I visited on July 5th, which was a very busy day because of great weather and the long weekend. Service was great and, of course, the food did not dissapoint! Last summer I needed a quick, nexpensive supper and Destino's sub shop fit my parameters. The art work on the sign and doors was so quirky and cute. I got a veal parm sandwich which was a decent but I probably should have gone with a cheesesteak. I would return and order more wisely next time. The salad bar with sides is a nice touch. The restaurant was clean, pleasant, and a nice spot to eat some supper and sort through the photos that I had taken around the water earlier that day. Service was A plus. Came here for lunch and got the Italian Sausage sandwich. I liked the sausage but damn did they go HAM with the mustard. I had to use my fork to get some of it out of my sandwich but it was still so much! Your lunch order also comes with soup and salad! Their soup of the day at the time was chili and it was pretty tasty. They have a salad bar with different and various salad choices. For $7 bucks, that's a lot of food!!! I have been going to Destino's for over 50 years have never been treated rudely until today. I was placing my order with a large white woman at the register. I was ordering a sub for my wife, a small turkey with everything, without mayo. She was upset with me saying I wanted everything on the sub, just no mayo, only mustard. She couldn't grasp this, she blathered out quickly all the things that normally come on a sub. I said I wanted all of that just no mayonnaise and with mustard. She sighed and scowled at me and told me, tell me what you want! I almost left at that point. My daughter said add lettuce and tomatoes, of course we missed a couple of the "normal" items. Then I saw her sneeze into her hand when she was handling food. There's plenty of sub places in Gloucester that I can go to in the future!
