The suite has a large bedroom and a separate sitting room and a separate private bath. It takes up one whole upper side of the large house. It, like the rest of the inn, was immaculate. We checked in late afternoon and through the beautiful wall-wide windows watched the sun setting over the snow. Gorgeous. Everything about Maple Cove exceeded our expectations. So comfortable and warm. Plenty of hot water for a tub in the morning, window seats in both the sitting area and the bedroom for sunrise and sunset views. Beautifully decorated, but not kitschy or cluttered. They also supplied a mini-fridge, a K-cup coffee maker, plenty of towels, extra blankets and pillows. In the morning Jan made us a gourmet breakfast. I do not exaggerate. An incredible omelet, fruit and yogurt parfait, fresh coffee, grilled sourdough toast, potatoes (perhaps fondant?) and orange juice. Plus homemade cinnamon scones! We loved it and will go back in the summer to use the pool! This may be the nicest B&B I've ever stayed in. Thank you, Jan and Mark!

You get a place to lay your head and you get a feel for what it's like to live in a place. In a sense, visiting Detroit is like visiting another country. It defies convention and expectation and pulls you in. Honor & Folly is a terrific place to fall in love with the city. It's perched above three essential places: a BBQ joint, a cocktail bar and a coffee shop. Across the street is the iconic ruin of Michigan's central station. Down Michigan is downtown Detroit. The interior is beautiful and driven by a strong design aesthetic. Goods like blankets, dishes and cutting boards are for sale and their makers have fascinating only-in-michigan stories. The proprietress, Meghan, is a design connoisseur and clearly a linker of people, who cultivates a very easygoing vibe while sacrificing nothing in terms of the quality of visual effect. Every object in every room seems to have a functional and decorative purpose. Here's what you need to know about Honor & Folly. Parking is street only and because Slows BBQ is so popular (as in wait for two hours for a table popular), many people are parking on the street. Even so, we had no problem finding a decent spot within view of where we were staying. This is a self-catering place so you can buy food and cook it up, but there's no breakfast with the bed. We bought coffee downstairs, had them grind it and then brewed our own little french press each morning. I highly recommend this inn. If you've given serious thought to exploring Detroit or just want a nest-like getaway, check it out. The Honor & Folly site describes the inn as: "A small-scale, design-focused Detroit inn, Honor & Folly is reminiscent of the way folks used to travel: a few beds above the village pub or restaurant with a hearty breakfast. You'll be immersed in the oldest neighborhood of Detroit - smack in the middle of one of the most thriving blocks in the city. You'll sit next to locals at the bar downstairs--or the coffee shop--and learn about the city from people who live here. Detroiters are a pretty friendly lot."

Going over the Ambassador Bridge, after clearing U.S. Customs, the apartment is two or three minutes away. Host was excellent helping us to reserve the rental space, as well as offering hip trip suggestions. Just outside the door of the pad, there are unique Corktown restaurants, cafes, and bars (i.e., Slows B.B.Q., The Sugar House, Mercury Burger and Bar, and Astro Coffee, what else do you need, eh?!). We did not have a car during our stay in the Motor City, yes, if you can believe it. Used Via Rail train service to Windsor station, then, hired a taxi to take us to the U.S. During the day, one can easily walk from the apartment to all sites in the downtown of Detroit, and hire a taxi if too tired to walk back. Again, car is not required to get the best out of Detroit, so long as you like to walk, befriend a reliable taxi driver, and know where you're heading. We can't wait to go back to Detroit, and stay here.

They are 2nd year owners taking over from previous owners that ran it 35+ years. They are so very gracious and to think re-visiting where I grew up "was" going to do a 3 stay hotel in Marysville till I looked up the rates for the Heather and for over the major July 4th the room daily fee was a mere $42.00 more a night and included a no joke "Chef Gordon Ramsey" quality breakfast every morning. We got to see all the rooms being nobody was there yet for that day and it took a few days to see every detail. Pictures don't do enough so to see in person was a treat and every room is decorated it's own way. The place is really quiet also even when other people were around it's just really nice and we didn't hear anything the whole three days there just when people came down for breakfast. You get your own front door key to come and go as you please anytime the front door locks behind you. The A/C in the rooms are perfect and whisper quiet never heard such a quiet unit before no motel ones are like that. TV, internet, every room a bathroom some have a jacuzzi. Bed was high end and so were the sheets and pillows. Everything you need is there to use even a hair dryer on the wall. Lots of storage for clothes and other furniture to sit on besides a bed. Everything antique is just amazing and talk about super clean. Every room has it's own balcony and you can just look out and see the freighters going by in the St. Clair river. That coffee quality is something I never had before and asked them what they use and said we get in Port Huron specially made in a coffee house. Amazing inside that as well but the Heather owners are the best so being the previous owners were awesome for many years, these two young people have a huge reputation to uphold and they are doing just that. Can't say enough about them and the experience staying there. The breakfasts are 8:30 and we chose the front window table for 2 every morning full service facing the river they bring everything to you this is not buffet it's full service included in price. They have a real large table for multiple people to have breakfast also. NEVER had breakfasts like these before that good and so unique and every day is different not repeated. For the rates and what you get who needs a boring common motel that can cost this easily and more most of the time for each night and just maybe get a generic breakfast. The Heather B&B is a hidden treasure and been there so many years. Post this and share comments. People may think a historic B&B is high priced but search rooms by name and rates you'll find this is a bargain and very special.
