I have very mixed feelings about Bishops. The staff were great, and the person who cut my hair did a good job. The space is welcoming and has an extensive drink selection as well as a good amount of seating for waiting. The parking lot is around the back of the building and has a lot of space. Unfortunately, when it came to payment, I have had a very bad experience. In the shop, I was charged $95.58 for a long cut, shampoo, and tip. I was quoted $65 online when I made my appointment for a long cut only and the stylist did not note there would be an additional charge for shampooing when she brought me to the basin. I should have asked, but it also should have been more clear. I was called about an hour after I left the shop to give my CC info over the phone because the first charge did not go through. This time, I was charged $76.80 for the same services. A few days later, both transactions settled in my account. I left a few voicemails, and did not hear back. When I finally got someone on the line, they said they'd refund the $95.58. Today, a refund for $76.80 settled in my account. While I'd like to come back for another haircut in the future, I'd be very hesitant to do so because of the way transactions are handled by staff. read more

First time here, very pleasantly surprised! Booking an appointment was super easy. While I waited the receptionist offered me a Mimosa (yum!). Kate was my stylist, and she knocked it out of the park. I did bring photos of what I was looking for, and she followed suit and nailed it perfectly. Very nice, very personal, funny and well skilled in her craft. I have been here twice now and have never gotten more compliments on my hair or personally loved a haircut more! I have been to Courtney both times and will continue to come back to her at Bishops! She is very sweet and personable and knows exactly what I want when I describe my ideal haircut. I have curly hair and have struggled to find salons that take care of it properly my whole life. I got a curly cut once that cost me $300+ and I walked away feeling like I wasted my money. But here with Courtney? I paid less than $100 feeling better than I had in years! She cut my hair dry first, then we did a wash, and then we had some touch ups on my hair while wet. She asked if I wanted my hair styled for my curls or blow dried and I was astonished! I have never had someone ask to style my curls (aside from the curly cut) before! She used great products on my hair and I just loved the experience start to finish! Overall, Bishops is very welcoming and all of the staff that I have interacted with has been nothing but nice. Each time I have been, it has been a very chill and calm environment. I will happily continue to come back and urge others to come too! Also, there is street parking, but there is also a free lot in the back! Got a short cut for $52 today and honestly one of the worst haircuts I have received in a long time. I had longer hair before and found several straggler long hairs. Severals clips were use to blend a 1 to an 8 on top but still came out janky. For the price I expect more effort and care. I was pleasantly surprised the first time that I contacted bishops for a haircut. I called in and was greeted with a friendly voice and great information. I made my appointment and explain to them what I needed to have done. The day of the appointment, I showed up and introduced to my stylist/barber. She asked me some of my concerns and then proceeded to give me a great haircut. I was able to purchase some product as I left. Mimi does excellent work. I highly recommend her.  This salon is located about a half a block from PCC in a great situation of small businesses and restaurants. There is parking in the back behind the stores as well as just a few parking places on East Colorado boulevard. What a great place to spend some time and have a great lunch nearby, after leaving the friendly staff at bishops. We have been dreading our self-image lately since we both got our hair butchered by our last experience at another salon (which got fixed but needed more work). I suggested to my partner to hunt down May since she didn't work at that salon anymore and next thing I know, we're both scheduled with her this Sunday. I spent a year dreading my 1st cut since growing it out. I had become trans in the process and I really had no idea what I wanted my cut to look like. I thought there wasn't much that could be done to make me like my hair, but it was too long and it had to be cut. I have Váleen to thank, an equally kind person and stylist. I told her about my dilemma and we spent a few minutes talking about what styles could work for me. She pulled out some Pinterest images and we looked it over together. Felt half done. I have some hair longer and shorter in some parts and my hair did not look fluid but blocky. I asked to thin it a bit more and it sort of got there but i will not be paying another $62 for this kind of cut... The place i usually go to will have a complimentary wash, dry, and cut for $50 with me leaving with a smile on my face. Bishops made me want to cry as i saw how my hair turned out. Im not happy at all and the only thing that can be done is to get my hair fixed someplace else. Update: my hair was fixed by my usual stylist and they cut so much more of my hair off because it was so uneven. They were baffled at how shoddy of a job it was done. I had the greatest haircut today for a wedding that is going to be in less than 24 hours. I was able to walk in and the stylist was able to accommodate me. They offered me water. They asked me if I was feeling comfortable to which I said, yes, very my stylist was Valee- she knew exactly how to take care of me and how to cut my hair. Prior to going into Bishops my hair was very fried and damaged at the ends, and my roots needed a touch up for all the grays ...I was suggested to also get a deep conditioning service--which gave my hair that extra oomph! 5 stars for just service. First off I want to say I'm having difficulty writing this bad review because the staff is nothing but sweet and kind. But I don't recommend coming here if your natural hair is dark and you want to go blonde. I have a stylist, that driving out to her is becoming a hassle for me. So I decided to try this place out. I've been bleaching my hair, super blonde for many years now, and I've never had my hair break, fall off, or be tangled to the point where I cannot even comb it whether it's wet or dry or even soaked in hair treatment or leave in conditioner. It all started when I came in for a color correction because I tried another stylist who came highly recommended and did not deliver her job at all. When I came in for the consultation, my roots were brassy but my ends were blonde, the same color I always do and I had no damage to my hair. At the time of my consultation I was told to come back a month from now to give my hair time to reset. Mind you I waited another two months before going in for the consultation. I wash my hair with high end products and I invest in a really good hair mask. I used to do hair masks once every 2 to 3 weeks but now after this last session, I have to do a hair mask every time I wash my hair. I came for my appointment. I sat in the chair for at least six hours and ended up leaving the salon a brunette. I had K18 treatment applied to my hair as well and it didn't do anything. My bangs were unevenly cut as well as my hair. My hair was not cut in a smooth way. It felt super choppy. I was told that they would fix it and I should come back next week free of charge. So I said okay and came back the next week. I shouldn't of came back. Another 6 hours in the chair. Basically, what happened was the previous toner that made my hair brown was removed and my blonde that I came in with was back. My roots, only a few pieces, mainly my bangs were lightened to the color of my liking. The rest of my roots were all brassy again. This time they also applied Ola Plex mask to my hair. After my hair was washed, I was checking my hair and realized that some of it had turned to spaghetti. During this whole process, the hairdresser was having difficulty combing my hair. I've never had that happen before. It literally took them 10 minutes to comb my hair. After that, I knew that there is no way the stylist was going to be able to achieve the color I want. I am so upset because right now I am going to have to get a haircut to cut off all my fried, broken and unmanageable hair. I had beautiful long blonde hair and now I have to chop it to my shoulders. 12 hours and $300 plus the price of getting a hair cut somewhere else all wasted. read more

I went in and asked for a specific haircut. The stylist went against my wishes and did what she thought would look good, but I have been devastated by it. The back of my head is completely chopped. the bottom inch of my head is a completely different length from the rest of my head and was completely against what I wanted, despite me showing multiple pictures to the stylist of wjat I wanted. I also feel as if I was racially profiled given that the stylist gave me a haircut that was completely not what I wanted but instead made me look a certain way and especially when the front desk clerk commented "you look like a kpop star" just off of the fact that I'm asian. I DIDN'T WANT TO LOOK "LIKE A KPOP STAR" I WANTED MY HAIRCUT. I asked for a textured mullet and I went home with a middle part/slicked back haircut that I never asked for. This isn't the first time this has happened at this salon; on multiple occasions I have gone in and asked for a specific haircut, only for whichever barber was cutting my hair to feel entitled to experiment with my head. I thought that because I had a different stylist today, things would be better, but clearly I was mistaken. Cutting my hair is already a nerve-racking experience for me, and this esperience has made me even more scared. read more

Went here a month ago, great haircut, intricate scissor cut, one of the best I've received. Then went back yesterday for another basic haircut, and I showed the woman the same haircut I received a month ago as a point of reference. She takes a razor and starts unevenly buzzing the side of my head in a very uncomfortable and harsh way, leaving hair on the left side of my head a good bit longer. Then she takes a razor to my neck, which is usually a very calming sensation and my favorite part of the haircut, and it hurts! It feels like she's going to cut my neck and draw blood. It leaves the back of my neck red and irritated, still a day later. Then, she takes some scissors and im thinking finally, she doesn't have those dangerous razors in her hand. And she cuts the top of my head in like 5 spots, and she's like im done. All she did is unevenly razor the side of my head and leave the hair on top of my head comically long. 52 dollars. I had a 3:15 appointment that was ultimately cancelled. I called ahead and advised the barber I would be slightly late and she acknowledged with no concern. I told her I would be in by 3:45 and apologized for the inconvenience to which she acknowledged and confirmed that she would see me then. To my surprise at 3:40 I receive a call from the stylist saying they would not longer be able to see me. I am in the error for missing my original appointment but after confirming you would still see me just to cancel is not a great way to treat a first time client. read more

I have been here twice now, the first time I got my hair colored with Leigh, it was a great experience. They were patient and understood everything I asked for. I was concerned because I have 2c curly hair and made sure they were able to work with that texture, but they did a great job. Came back recently for a trim and a shampoo with Kat. Asked if she had experience with curly hair and she said they didn't get many clients with curly hair and that should have warned me. I asked to keep the length and maybe thin it out since I was getting a lot of knots. She dry cut it which I guess is okay sometimes. Had my wash and everything was going well until she started putting this total recoil product in my hair. It felt like a lot and I even asked if it was a lot and she insisted it would help my curls by keeping moisture and whatnot. When she finished, my hair is noticeably way shorter than I expected, and extremely sticky. I was apprehensive and tried to shake out my curls but they were so sticky and stiff but she said it would look better when it dries out. Why should I have to wait all day and till I got home to notice she cut a lot of length and didn't really thin out my hair, so now my hair is way shorter than I wanted and stiff and sticky. Who wants sticky hair??? I will not be coming back for a cut, I need a curly hair specialist, this made me feel really bad. I had been growing my hair out for a long time and I feel like I went back several steps. Service is really nice and kind but don't come here for curly hair. read more

This is just a heads up to anyone who wants color and is a new client, you MUST have a consultant before they will honor any color booking. They told me it's a liability policy. If it's a color correction I could understand this policy better but for people like me with virgin hair, I'm just not sure why I would need to do this and then have to have two separate appointments. In my case they also changed my appointment time from 1230 to 2. As a new client this whole thing was a turn off. So I give stylists the opportunity when a few people have recommended them. When Emily was recommended by a long time client of mine whom I whole heartedly trust, I knew I had to see her. 7/02/19 Teshe (beautiful name btw, I hope I'm getting this right; I went to the website after finding out her name) immediately greeted me an my son as we walked in and we had a photo of something he picked for his senior portrait haircut. She immediately assessed his hair and then worked on him for the trim. My son is a sensitive perfectionist (which is a quirk) and that can annoy some stylists if they're not patient. He's also, at the same time, very soft spoken. I could tell from body language that she's very receptive and patient. Even though her tools are right behind her if she works on him with his face outward and not to the mirror, he asked to see the mirror (at least as far as I could tell from across the room) and she complied without resistance. This was his first time at Bishops, so I watched them closely. I love Teshe's patience and her professionalism. I continue to love Bishops for their work with ameliorating homelessness and how easy it is to walk in and get top notch services. They seem really inclusive and warm in their vibe.
