I was anxious about finding a new stylist when I moved to Nashville after having the same stylist for years. I started searching yelp reviews before I started packing and bookmarked a number of options. I decided to start with Bishops based on the reviews and booked an appointment with Cally. After sitting down we looked through some pictures I had of what I was looking for. She brought me to the lighter whiter blonde I was wanting. After telling her that I was trying to grow out my hair a bit she took just enough off to clean it up but not too much. After realizing that what I wanted was a little too light and ashy for my skin tone and coloring she perfectly brought me back to a more natural warmer tone blonde and are on our way to a little darker blonde and closer to my natural color. Having someone do my hair that is aware of the struggles us fine haired ladies have is really nice. I can't tell you how many times I've had my hair thinned out or butchered by someone that just doesn't understand that you can't hack at fine hair. Buyer Beware - Bait and Switch: I was looking for a place to get highlights in my hair. There is a salon close to my home. When I stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon, I was told partial highlights would be 95.00 and I made an appointment for that Saturday. When I got home I told my husband I had made an appointment. He asked if it was Bishop's Salon. He mentioned our neighbor went there and liked the salon. I called Bishop's and asked how much the cost was to do partial highlights. The woman I spoke with said highlights done by the associate would be $90, or an appointment with the owner would be 140.00 because of her experience. I made an appointment with the associate and I then canceled the first appointment I made with the first Salon. I arrived for my appointment at Bishop's at 9 and Zaynab took me back right away. She did a nice job and the highlights looked good. As I was checking out, a woman named Frederica, said the total was $150.00. I let her know that when I booked the appointment they quoted me $90.00 with Zaynab or $140.00 with the owner, Mitzi. Frederica told me $90.00 was for color, not partial highlights (although I specifically requested partial highlights when I called to ask the price). I paid it since the work was done and there was no price list in the shop to refer to, only my telephone conversation. When I got home I told my husband about the change it price, we decided to go back and speak with the owner. The girl that checked me out was at the counter and I asked her to explain the $60 price difference again to the two of us. She said it was for color, not highlights. I asked to speak to the owner. When Mitzi came to the counter, I explained that I was quoted $90.00 and that I canceled the appointment with the other Salon because the prices quoted were close. She said: "No one at Bishop's would have said that." and asked "Don't you I think that $140 was a fair price?" I told her she could charge whatever she wanted, but I was quoted $90.00. Mitzi said, "I don't believe you." At that point we left the salon, there would have been no point in further discussion since she essentially called me a liar. If they would have quoted me 140.00 for the partial highlights, I would have just kept the appointment at the first salon. Zaynab did a fine job with the highlights of my hair. My complaints are with the price charged vs what i was quoted and secondly the rude way I was treated when discussing the situation with the owner. read more

I am not a current customer, however I was for 6 or 7 years..Since then I have lived in Utah and currently Pompano Beach Fl. They do ok work but way too pricy and last appointment I made..... my stylist was out sick so they got someone in training to do my hair while someone "supervised" that was crap. No supervision and my highlights and cut was crap, but I still got charged for a professional to do my hair not someone in training. The main reason I am writing is we are moving back and I will NOT go back to Bishops. NOW HERE IS THE REAL KICKER!!! I worked at City LImits Cafe and several people from Bishop's ordered food and wanted it delivered. No problem. I had to use my after work time my car my gas to deliver their food and not one of them tipped me. Not even a dollar or a penny, but they sure do want their tips. Selfish people!!!!! read more

IMO Bishop's Salon is the BEST hair salon in Nashville ! You complainers should go check out other high quality salons with Nashville pricing. Their pricing is fair and they are honest. Mitzi is beyond professional and qualified. I have had my hair highlighted for over 40 years in the Nashville area and so happy to find Mitzi conveniently located to my new home. I have watched her go beyond the all of duty to help others, like fixing botched hair cuts from other places. Mitzi has the best talent around. Aveda salon...mmmm, Aveda smells SO GOOD. I dig Bishops, I have been coming here for about 6 years off and on because I used to live in the 'vue and have received color and cuts with them from a few different stylists (some of which have moved or moved on) It can get pricey, but if you need a cut for a reasonable price you can ask for a 'junior' stylist for under $30. The only bad thing is the stylists then move up the ranks (well, bad for me - good for them) and if you like a particular girl/guy you have to start to pay more and more... The service is friendly and professional from booking to a short wait time in the lobby where there are drinks and even occasional homemade treats - banana bread anyone? Cute! My cuts always look good and are on par with what I wanted, these people seemed to be trained to listen which I like. I've also gone in and told them to give me 'funky' highlights in red and black and came out happy under their creative touch. The color is not cheap I think all said and done it was nearly $300 with a cut + tip, ($280 I think) but it did look pretty fantastic. Mitsy gave me the worst hair cut/color of my life. I think other reviewers said this too, but their reviews have disappeared! Mitsy did not discuss my haircut, she starting cutting and ignored my request as she started. She kept answering her cell phone and running off every 5 minutes to attend to a crying stylist. Also, the color was never discussed and I was grey! I was very disappointed, but Mitsy kept saying I looked great-not even close to what I wanted. After spending months to let it grow out I am back to Laura Beth at Trim for an awesome haircut. I know Melanie Shelley who owns Trim would fire anyone talking on their cell phone, crying on the floor or running out in the middle of a haircut. read more

Long story short = Bishop's made my hair. Short story long-= When I was 20 I stopped going places to get my hair done. I'd had roughly a lifetime of horrible haircuts and people who just didn't really get that I did not want to look like a coconut. So I stopped getting it cut and would just do it myself. It looked about equally as bad as if I paid someone to do it and if I messed up, my hair grew so fast it wouldn't be more than a day or two before the mess up was unrecognizable. I grew my hair till it was down past my booty, finally shaving it off in 2000 or so and starting back with the horrible short hair. I tried a couple of other places and basically ended up with what I call the "large" cut from both, which is a very nice haircut for someone with a much larger head. In 2006, I did a show as a hair model (I think Aveda was sponsoring it, but I don't remember). I had enough hair at the time that I looked like a mop, and when the show was done I had stylists all taking my picture (I was the most radically changed) and it looked, for the first time in my life, really really good. The stylist who did it was based in another state, but gave me a set of instructions and the name of a salon - Bishop's. I took a couple of pictures of my head and moved along. A month and a half later, I dropped in and thus began my hair affair with Bishop's. So far, it's been good. I achieved the amazing hair I had at the show after a couple of visits (I didn't have the pictures first visit) and have felt comfortable playing around with it. It's been a nice experience, they've usually been able to accommodate my crazy work and life schedule, and there's usually a pot of fairly decent coffee waiting if you have to wait. Anyway, I do not have a lot of experience with other salons, I think everyone who used to cut my hair is gone now, Bishops has done quite right by my head though when I go. read more

I love this salon! Just moved to Nashville from San Francisco and was worried about finding a hair stylist that would be comparable to a larger city. Problem solved; I found it...Leslie. Had no idea there was such talent here...glad I'm finding out how diverse the south can be. Leslie whipped my hair into shape (hadn't had it cut since I left SF) and made me feel like a supermodel when I walked out. She gave a great scalp massage, was not pushy about buying Aveda products...was a wonderful experience. I was so impressed with this salon and while they offer a wide range of services, there was none of that catty salon attitude...everyone seemed to get along. go figure! I got my eye brows waxed from Kiby recently and unfortunately, it was the worst eye brow wax I've ever had! When I called earlier I asked the receptionist if Kiby tweezed and she told me she did. And then when I went in to see Kiby, I asked her if she tweezed and she said no and liked to wax better. I told her I had a bad experience with waxing in Denver where the aesthetician made them too thin and it took years to grow them back. Kiby assured me she wouldn't do that so I trusted her, what a mistake. She made one eye brow thinner and higher than the other, there's also a gap in the middle of my eye brow where she took out a chunk of hair and the other eye brow is jagged. My brows looked better before I went in! She also missed some hairs that were sticking out that I had to trim when I got home. I wouldn't recommend Kiby to anyone, she's not good! I've lived in Mpls, Denver and San Francisco before this and this was by far my worst experience. On the other hand, I saw Leslie for my hair and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had and would highly recommend her. She's very friendly, personable and good at what she does. And she sent me a thank you card which I never have gotten before. I was so impressed! Unfortunately, I won't be going back to Bishop's because of my horrible experience with Kiby. Took a picture of a blunt bob to Mitzi only to leave the salon with so many layers and a terrible cut that I'm still struggling to manage weeks later. The staff at the front desk are very unprofessional and try to give a 'snob-like' persona, but it turns out to be comical instead. Approximately, 3 years ago I came here for a haircut and color (which went well) and while i was there my stylist convinced me to look into a specific makeup brush. I liked it enough that i asked the price and was told $25. I felt that it was a fair price so I asked them to order one for me. They called a few days later and let me know that it was in. Yay! I arrived at the salon and the gentleman behind the counter (Conrad?) rang it up and said that will be $50 (+ tax). I explained that I was told the cost was $25. He clarified "oh, well thats OUR cost." Are you kidding me!?! I politely declined the brush and left. In an attempt to give it another try, I brought my daughter in for a haircut and upon arrival was greeted by her stylist, Courtney (who was friendly BTW.) There were two other individuals at the counter as well. I had a question about a gift card (because I was told when I made the appointment to notify them of the gift card upon arrival) so I walked over to the 2nd person at the counter and told her that I had a gift card. She pointed to the gentleman at the end if the counter and said "that would be him. Ohhhh Connie...we have a situation." She handed him the giftcard and walked away without saying another word to me. The gentleman never acknowedged my presence, instead he picked up the phone to call someone and has not said anything to me yet. I initially asked about the gift card 30 mins ago and I am still here in the lobby. Wow... We will NOT be back here again!! I believe in 2nd chances, but the front desk staff (especially Mr. Connie/Conrad) are too unprofessional to endure this a third time. read more

I only recently started going to Bishop's but my SO and his family has for years. It is honestly the best salon I have been to- the staff is so incredibly sweet and they know exactly what they're doing. I just had to cut off all my hair due to damage from bleach, and Jessie L. and the owner Mitzy made that traumatizing experience so much better. Even the other clients were so nice, telling me I looked beautiful and that my new short hair was cute! They made me feel comfortable and taken care of, and I trust them with my hair completely. Having gone to Bishop's some years back, I went back after my Stylist friend Amy Blevins Bailey Returned. Although finding the New Location was challenging, i was not dissapointed for a minute. Four times as much space as the old location without sacrifing the warm intimate feel of the old Salon for one moment. Even With the Challenge of cutting naturly curly hair, Amy's Work is always professional, clean and done well. My only dissapointament was, that me being a Caffeine Junky and a little bit on an Artist (Don't they go hand in hand?)I miss those deep cute Cups with Bishop's Salon Written all over them. I had the same stylist here for about 2 years, so when she left a couple years ago I was scared to have a new person working on my hair. Turns out, every member of their staff I've had since then has not only been fantastic at doing hair, but also they are all very friendly and listen to what you want. I always walk out happy because of their amazing service. If you're there early or waiting for your stylist, they offer you something to drink, and the place just smells good. DON'T GO TO BISHOP'S FOR A BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT. I have very curly & frizzy hair and love my Brazilian Blowouts. I've had a number of them from my regular stylist since she started offering them. They are supposed to last "up to 12 weeks" but mine from her have lasted far longer than that. Needless to say I was thrilled when I started to see that some salons were offering them on Groupon. I hadn't been to Bishop's before but figured since it's an Aveda salon that they would do a good job. I was wrong. I remember the process normally taking over 2 hours, but at Bishop's it look less than 90 minutes. I didn't think much of it and left the salon with my freshly smooth, sleek & straight hair. However IT ONLY LASTED A COUPLE DAYS, and I can't help but wonder if that's only because I hadn't washed it - I was told not to wash it for several days, even though I've never been told that before and never had a problem with washing the next day. After reading through the Brazilian Blowout website, turns out some steps were missed. I had to leave town for a family emergency, but as soon as I returned I made an appt. w/ my regular Aveda stylist. She was shocked that my hair showed no signs of having recently received the treatment. She did the treatment for me and my hair now looks like it should. I've sent an email to Bishops about the situation, however I have yet to hear back from them. I will not be using them again and would recommend you go elsewhere as well. read more

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED...BIG WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. I went in to get some purple color put in my hair. I had bought a groupon after calling and speaking to an available stylist that day and explaining that I had dark hair and wanted the purple on the ends, as I had it before, but it had faded. She assured me that would be no problem. Long story short, it was a good color, but it faded out to a horrible ashy grey in only 2 washes. So, I sat there and essentially wasted 2 hours of my time and $100 (after the price of the groupon and the tip). I was then called about a week later to see how I was enjoying my service. I proceeded to inform them of what had happened. She said she would relay the message and I would get a call back. Well, 2 weeks later, nothing. So I called back and was told, "oh, no one got back to you? I'll make sure someone calls you today by 5:30." Again, no returned call. So, I called again the next day, and once again promised a call back, and nothing. Finally, the next week (nearly one month later), I speak to someone and all they tell me is that fashion colors fade and are not permanent, and too bad, I'm just out the money because they don't do refunds, only re-dos. And they told me that my stylist said it was not permanent (which she did not). I said I wouldn't have bothered and surely wouldn't have wasted a significant amount of time and money. Never again...highly disappointed. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE TIME AND LOTS OF MONEY. read more
