Ever since Bistro reopened, it has been a wonderful surprise. The food has evolved. The chef is creative and you can tell there is a lot of focus on delivering an upscale experience. We have been here three times since they reopened and every single time has been consistently good. The food has changed for the better. Thank you, chef! The lighting on the inside of the restaurant is well thought out. It gives a warm, inviting vibe. I think there should be a bit more lighting the bar area. The lights are focused on the wall behind the bar and it would be helpful to have a few overhead lights so you can see the menu a little better. It's kind of a narrow, dark space and there are some seats at the bar that feel really dark. The service was awesome. I hope the owner eventually opens up a Vietnamese restaurant in Murphy. Spent a night at Harrahs Valley River and found this cute spot in town! It was about 10 minutes from the casino, and parking was ample on the town streets. We made a reservation, which ended up being smart because it was pretty packed! My dad and I grabbed a local beer from the bar and then sat down at our booth. Menu for the night is attached, we got the Peach Wings to start and they were pretty tasty! Then for the meal itself, dad built his own burger and I got myself a chicken caprese roll. We both got truffle fries with our sammies. The burger was aight, but my chicken sandwich was a lot more bread than sandwich which was a bummer. The biggest caveat was the staff preparedness, we were asked to close out our bill mid meal because of machine problems, so we ordered dessert early (the bread pudding), and they ended up being out of the ice cream and sauce, so we had to get a refund! Other than that kerfuffle, this place was an adorable addition to our one night trip. The hostess and bartender were both so sweet as well! Outstanding food and drinks here. My wife and I were actually going to a pub nearby and parked in front of Bistro 29 to walk down the block to the pub. We stopped to gaze at the menu, went to the pub and looked at their menu, then came back to Bistro 29. I am so glad that we did! Best porkchop that I've ever had (and it was topped with a blueberry jam/puree? Go figure!). My wife's salmon was perfect and as stated in another review, the brussels sprouts and Old Fashioned were outstanding as well. Awesome bartender! I got a recommendation from a friend so wifey and I went for our Anniversary. Pricy place so I expected better than average dining experience. First impressions were good, decent atmosphere, decor and clean. First off, full bar but nothing on tap. Strike one. Ordered the coconut shrimp. Must have fried in old oil, tasted burnt but wasn't overcooked. Flavor much less than average. Strike two. Entree was Lemon Curry with salmon. This was best described as salmon with asian? veggies (very few) on a bed of rice with a sprinkling of curry flavored yellow water. Me no happy. Strike three. Service was excellent but no bread was offered, not even one roll, even when asked. Won't be back! read more

Quiet little place right in the middle of downtown Murphy with a bar on one side and tables on the other. Service was quick, friendly, helpful and went above and beyond when she asked if she could get her Bread Pudding wrapped to take home, they deconstructed it, gave her all the ingredients individually wrapped and gave her instruction on how to put it together and cook at home. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the lobster tail, she had the Crispy Brussels and Pistachio Berry salad. The lobster tail was perfect and I don't know what that crab mixture they put on top of it is, but I could eat a plate of that by itself. She said the brussels were the best she's ever eaten and she devoured the salad as well. HIGHLY recommend Bistro 29!! It is NOT cheap, so be prepared for that, but worth every dime. read more

The Brussels sprouts are excellent!, and a huge portion. Tonight's appt special was pork egg rolls w a tangy ranch. The egg rolls were very good, though I would have preferred a plum sauce to go with them. The fish special was Chilean sea bass. M tells me it was the nicest fish she has had in months. I had the pork chops with a berry coulis. Except for the saltiness my meal was very good too. I would say that the food warrants about 4.5 stars before an adjustment for saltiness. Service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance is shabby chic; about right for the neighborhood. We will definitely be back next motorcycle season. read more

Do not come here for the sushi. It was awful. I made the mistake of waiting for it for 2 hours becuase the sushi chef didn't come in until 5 and then didn't have the sushi ready until almost 6pm. The rice was refrigerated and if anyone knows anything about sushi you are not suppose to refrigerate it. Foodie alert! Classy? ...not quite. Shabby chic? this is! ...HOWEVER what they may lack in ambience and decor in the restaurant section, they more than make up for in food and great wine and really, isn't that the point? For the second time in as many yelps in this tiny mountain town of Murphy NC. this may be one of the best meals we have ever had. Holy Moly if this town highlighted the great restaurants to 'Foodies' they certainly wouldn't have to count on the casino (why we came). We started with the Chef's special 'stuffed' eggs as they were 50% off on Yelp - thank you Yelp! for providing a platform that encourages us to add another layer to our already burgeoning menu desires. Today's offerings were splendiferorous. Pimento cheese n' bacon. Not too much that they overpowered the egg, rather just enhanced it. I firmly commit to going home and trying to duplicate these tasty little critters. Also, just as an aside, even though it may be considered artsy to plate 3 half eggs, we know there is another half floating around back there, so when there are an even number of guests, why short us? Thankfully it was just us so we split the 3rd half. However, should there have been others it would have been the same as double dipping and the last half would have been left, nobody wanting it & awkward moments created. Please plate the other half! Then the Blue Ridge Olive Oil co. Chose Bistro 29 to hawk their wares and very cleverly so. Although the bread rolls were not good (cold and hard), the divine combination of lemon zest and garlic oil paired with lavender balsamic was genius. We will be going to Blue Ridge OO co. tomorrow to pick up some, not only for us, but folks we will be visiting next month. Yep, THAT good. I then had the Diver Scallops and hubby had the Duroc Pork Chop. I'm not a grits kinda gal so Bistro 29 graciously allowed me to substitute mashed taters. Oh my giddy aunt! What a meal! I can't believe I am about to say that such scallops can be found in such a tiny mountain town but they were and are! You cannot go wrong ordering these. Crisp with a lovely grilled flavor on the exterior and moist meaty heavenly orbs on the interior. Now top with capers for heaven's sake and sit them on a bed of mild greens with celery? Oooh, 'nuff said! :) Hubby said he believed his pork chop had to compare because he too was beyond satisfied. Not a man of many words this is a HUGE thumbs up! This is long so I must wind it up with the wine ;). For $8 I cannot remember having any wine as good as their Malbec. Seriously, not since we spent a week in Mendoza going to all the wineries. Stupendous! Now imagine The Great Satchmo, Frank Sinatra and possibly Rosemary Clooney in the background and you have pretty good idea of a close to perfect evening. Bistro recently reopened from an extensive renovation. The changes look nice. Definitely had a fresher look. There was also a new menu that looked interesting. Our waitress was quite nice as well. Now for the major downer, I am allergic to mussels which they have on the menu. I have gotten cross contamination before so even though I didn't plan to order mussels, I mentioned the allergy. I was informed the chef could not "control" cross contamination so the only thing I could have was a salad because they were made by the waitstaff in a separate area. So I ask if they at least had bread to be served with the salad. No they don't have bread. Fair warning there is a lot of shell fish on the menu so if you have an allergy, this is not the place for you. read more

So me and a buddy (2 Asian dudes) had been on the road for roughly 4 hours on route to deliver auto parts when we decided to make a grub stop in random Murphy TN, at a random "Bistro". Upon entering this establishment, we noticed that most of the patrons there are well dressed while we were far from that (hey, we were working haha). Felt like walking in a Range Rover dealership in shorts and flip flops. We didn't care though cause we were there to eat, and we are foodies despite our then current appearances. Got a table within 2 minutes, on a Saturday evening (KINDLY, not the huff and puff as if they were doing us a favor type place). Ordered more than half their appetizers and a couple entrees. While waiting for the food, I couldn't help but look around and appreciate the small details in this place. They have a bar area that was semi-hoppin' with folks who I assume to be regulars as they stood around socializing. Cool, laid back place indeed. Food came and it was time to pig out. The overall meal, I feel as though the appetizers/starters really stole the show. They were ALL amazing! They have their own twist to traditional items such as pork dumplings and a duck egg roll that reminded me of Jamaican beef pockets. Perfect crisp and flavors. Sushi/sashimi very fresh and done right. Entrees were lacking in flavor but that isn't necessarily a bad thing because most of us have gotten used to overly seasoned foods. I DO believe a dish well properly prepared should lean more towards bland than overly flavorful, so that they got right and people like me can appreciate that. Unfortunately this place is way out of the way for me so not sure if we'll meet again, but if we do, I'll probably just order every appetizer they have and with a beer or two would make for a divinely perfect meal. What really had be throwing the fifth star to them was their service. Classy, attentive, inviting and gave off a truly humble vibe to them. Thanks Bistro 29 for doing what you do, where you're at! Small towns should have more places like these because it really isn't just all about the food, but the feel and atmosphere as well. We went tonight after reading all of the great reviews and the meal was just so-so. The firecracker shrimp appetizer is amazing. The service was good. The vibe/atmosphere in the restaurant is strange. The Prime Rib was decent, but it was a little dry. The salmon was perfect and really good - the rice that came with it looked like grits. I'd give it another shot for sure. Maybe lower the lights some in the building for dinner service to help with the ambiance?? read more

We were really excited to try this restaurant until we walked in and the manager barked we just 13 people and o my have 2 waitresses. She turned on her heel and walked alway without offering for us to sit at bar while we wait or even give us a wait time. Now I think we've all come to expect subpar customer service post COVID, but a manager?? Happy Tonight at 5:00 we went to the Bistro 29 for sushi !! We had it before and it was excellent!! The last time we went the sushi cook had to leave for a family emergency!! Tonight we went and asked the hostess if there was sushi tonight!! She said no!! I mentioned this was the second time we came for Sushi and it was not to be!! She told us to go to Kobi in Andrews if we want sushi!! She was not polite and sarcastic when she told us where to go and not in a nice way!! She laughed as we left with another couple sitting in the front window!! I saw as we left!! I returned an opened the door and let her know she was rude!! We have always loved coming to the Bistro and now you have lost a customer that would have come back! Not after the way we treated by your hostess with her John Lennon hat!! This was our 2nd time to Bistro 29 after an excellent first experience. We were a party of three & were seated quickly as the dinner crowd was just starting to trickle in. After perusing the menu, we ordered, one had the Stuffed Atlantic Salmon, one had the New York Strip, & I had the Chicken & Mac'n Cheese Waffles. They said the Salmon & New York Strip were quite good. For me, the Mac'n Cheese Waffles were stone cold. When the waitress came by I asked if they were supposed to be cold & she said no & took the plate back to the kitchen. Five or so minutes later she brought the plate back & the waffles were warm now, but as rubbery as an inner tube - obviously microwaved to death. The waitress came by & asked how it was & I shared the truth - they were horrible. She said she would get another order made as quick as she could. Since the others were now more than half way done with their dinners, I told her it was ok, I'd just eat the chicken. She said go ahead & eat if you'd like, but she was getting another order for me. About 10 minutes later & the new order came out. This time the Mac'n Cheese Waffles were hot & freshly cooked & actually quite tasty. The Blueberry Bourbon BBQ Chicken on top of the waffles was good as well. Unfortunately my dinner partners were now done with theirs, & I'd filled up on bread, so I asked for a go-box to eat later. Were it not for Christie our waitress being attentive & "demanding" to get me a new order, I would have eaten the chicken & left a really bad review & likely never come back. We decided to take a chance and have dinner here after almost 2 years of a not so great experience. The menu and ambiance has been revamped and refined. The Lobster Mac as a starter was delicious! Flavorful, balance of textures, not overpowering and lots of lobster in it. The Salmon was delicious as well. I had been craving sea bass for a long time and Bistro hit it out of the park. Perfectly cooked, the house made fresh sauce, and the lump crab was the perfect combination. Service was superb. Mark was a wonderful server with honest recommendations, and passionate about serving people. Look forward to many more dinners! We visited the restaurant today, terrible experience from beginning to the end. The waitresses performance was very poor, total lack of customer service and attention to follow our requests. We asked to replace asparagus for extra mashed potatoes, the chef in the kitchen decided that we should pay extra: since when are mashed potatoes more expensive than asparagus? We also ordered trout, the flavor was not good at all. We asked to speak with the manager, and the waitresses response was that the manager was "very busy" s with other customers. We insisted to speak with the manager, and when she finally came to speak with us and we shared our feedback she thanked us for the feedback but never offered an apology for the terrible service from her staff. The icing on the cake: The trout I ordered gave me food poisoning. Their prices are high, the quality of their food and customer service should improve if they want to fill up their pretty empty restaurant. They would rather get an extra $3 for additional mashed potatoes rather than make the customer happy. Bottom line... we won't be giving them our business again. Their loss not ours! read more

This was the beginning of our 4 day girls trip. Before heading to our river cabin we decided to have dinner in Murphy (closest town). We decided on here and we're not disappointed. What a great find. The 3 of us were seated in the front window seat. Anna was our server and she was a cute young thing. She was very attentive to us. We ordered our cocktails which came quickly and she told us about their specials that night. We ordered salads and I chose the citrus vinegarette which they make in house. It was delish. One of the specials was scallops served over mushroom risotto with additional srooms on top. The scallops were large and cooked perfectly. I ate the whole thing. My other girlfriend preserved the trout on the menu and hers was exceptional. The trout was served over purées potatoes with roasted balsamic Brussels sprouts. This dish was outstanding. I would order that the next time. My other girlfriend ordered the portabella burger and she gobbled the whole thing up. We had additional cocktails for dessert. This is a quaint, comfortable and welcoming bistro and I would definitely go back if I was ever in the area. I actually recommended it to another couple who were staying near us on the river and they went there only to discover they are closed on Sunday and Monday. read more

Stopped in to grab dinner here. Drinks seemed pretty weak and watered down. I got the beef stroganoff, which was bland, and my gf got the ahi tuna, which she took one bite of and said was over-seared to the point of being actively tough to chew. We were planning on spending an hour or two here but after 20 minutes we'd had enough and left most of the food untouched. The second star is for the service, which was good. read more
