We went to Harvest on Main with another couple. We were all very happy with almost everything. And the things we didn't love were a matter of personal taste, not inferior taste. We shared the Brussel sprouts, the spinach and artichoke dip, and the three Onion and Apple soup. That soup was killer!!! Two in our party had the Tomahawk Pork chops. One had the Salmon over Teriyaki rice. I had the peach habanero meatball appetizer as a meal. All were really really good. Kaya was our server and she was wonderful. So we went here a long while back. I remembered not really being impressed. I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt. The ambience is nice. We were the first people when they opened. We sat at the "kitchen bar ". There were about 10 employees standing around and no one came over right away. We were looking at the menu. Kind of wanted to to leave (probably should have). Server came over and she was very nice. Then the food came. My husband got a Cuban with pasta salad. I got pulled pork sandwich on a potato roll with Cole slaw. The Cuban hardly had any meat on it. One side was burnt and the other side was wet. Pasta salad had no flavor whatsoever. My sandwich seemed like the better of the two....but it was just ok. Then I started biting into chunks of fat. Meghan was amazing. We had come from a nearby restaurant after not being serviced. This place was incredible. We were seated immediately, for lunch and the first thing Meghan did was level our table! I ate lunch here on 10/31/25 and I sat at the bar. The restaurant was very busy so I was grateful to get a seat and not have to wait for a table for one. The gal behind the counter was very prompt and courteous and answered my questions about options on the menu. There is a big stove across the bar so you can see some of the cooking that gets done. The only issue with that is the heat...I didn't want my frosty beer glass to warm up while I enjoyed one of their local brews. I'd rather sit away from the cooking action. I ordered the crab cakes which came with coleslaw. The crab cakes had a nice sauce decorating the top of each cake. I asked for more because the crab cakes were a bit more bread filled than crab filled. I know I am spoiled with west coast Dungeness crab as you get a lot of chunks and not well flaked blue crab, but I really was hoping for more crab than I got for the money. I was excited to eat here during our trip, but unfortunately our meal was disappointing. The children's pasta was not good and looked like it had been hastily plated. The blackened chicken sandwich wasn't worth the price--it fell apart while eating it and lacked flavor. My husband's Cajun pasta was decent, but it wasn't enough to make up for the rest of the meal. I was also disappointed that our server never offered us the dessert menu or asked if we'd like dessert before bringing the check. Harvest on Main is a cute restaurant on the main drag of downtown Blue Ridge and probably caters mostly to tourists. As a slightly more elevated choice versus the other nearby restaurants for our nicer dinner out, we made a reservation here and were pleased when they were able to change our inside dining room reservation to the patio, as the weather was cooperating for a pleasant al fresco meal. (When we did go inside to use the restrooms, I noted that the interior has a warm cozy vibe, and the bathrooms were spotless.) Our server was so polite, friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and the area; however, I forget her name. The crab cake appetizer was divine and I could've made a meal of those alone. The highly-popular trout entree, according to our server, was a bit of a let-down as the trout itself was very good, but it was sitting in a pool of sickly-sweet mashed sweet potatoes and glazed green beans that all tasted like Thanksgiving dessert, and not a summertime side dish. The rest of our entrees were, as my kids and spouse said "just okay", so I'm not sure that if we were visiting the area again that we'd eat there another time. read more

Our server was the MVP, super nice, patient, and honestly the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. The hostess though... bless her heart, but some critical thinking training might go a long way. Instead of just letting us wait ten minutes she made us make a reservation, and when we came back 30 minutes later the place was empty. ‍ Then she kept forgetting basics like silverware but wouldn't let us sit until the table was "ready," so we just stood there awkwardly while she blocked traffic. The food didn't redeem things either. Soups came out cold, salads were drowning in dressing, and everything else was either way too sweet or had zero flavor. The pickles were the only thing worth writing home about. We did have pickle martinis which were fun (not on the menu ) , but beware, Belvedere vodka runs $20 a shot here. That's a bold move for a restaurant that's more "tourist town casual" than "upscale cocktail lounge." This place could be great with some better food quality and front end training. Prices seemed steep. We arent ones to typically leave reviews but were food people. Firstly, upon arrival the hostess stated that there were many reservations coming soon but gave us the bar option and we happily abliged. The bar option was main floor where we were sat in front of a large stove and where someone was actively performing food prep as well as thawing something in a ziploc (in a pot). We ordered the 17$ trout and salmon dip and it took awhile and came out less than 5 mins from our main course. The dip serving came with a large amount of "salad" of sorts, Ritz crackers and a dip portion that would fit easily in my hand. My wife's main course of shrimp and grits were heavily salted. We love salt but it was overpowering. Aside from price point, the service was great and staff was friendly but expectations were not met for us as locals. My son wanted a burger and we had to order an adult meal because they did not have it as an option for kids. We got salads for lunch and the portion size was okay. The food was good. Service in the bar was the worst service I have ever received (empty water glasses, dirty appetizer dishes never cleared, no bread service, entrees missing items). We had a larger party so it was difficult to accommodate us at late notice until later in the evening. Understandable. What was not understandable was the service I received when placing my order. I was not interested in a heavy dinner because my stomach had not been feeling well and the waiter had the audacity to criticize my order when I asked his reviews about the soup. He was very rude and said he didn't give any feedback on soups. When I inquired about the salad he got even ruder. The salad and soup was 20 dollars with chicken as an added protein. Definitely not worth the money in my opinion. My friend's made comments on their orders -- the salmon was dry. The food was average and presentation was average to nill. I can't speak for the dining experience... certainly not fine and the ambience of the place was rustic. If you are looking for some place to eat in this small touristy town you'll get fed but I can't speak to the other aspects of a dining experience because it was not memorable. They didn't even offer anything to my friend for my birthday as some restaurants do so I can't even recommend it for that! If I were rating on service alone, then this would be a five-star review. When we arrived sans reservation, they were slammed. I'm guessing there isn't much to see around these parts, so the entire town was eating dinner at Harvest on Main. We were given the option to make a reservation and that we did, for 8 PM if memory serves me correctly. One in our group was starving though and we called to see if they could get us in earlier, so at 7ish PM we were sitting inside and being handed our menus, all while in shock at the dead animals and guns on the wall. Don't let the decor scare you -- the staff is truly warm and friendly, which is why it pains me to say that the food just was okay at best. Admittedly looking back, I think I am being generous. The food, regardless of order, was just unbalanced. The best part of the meal was the appetizer. Or the dessert. Or both depending on what you classify these details as. We shared a baked brie appetizer that was rich and creamy, quite delectable, but it snuck up on you eventually, seeing as there was some sweetness, too, which felt odd. The dessert was a chocolate one and it had the same situation as the appetizer. Rich, delicious... and then with that dollop of ice cream, way too sweet. As for our mains, we were a group of five. One got the steak dish, another a pork chop, I got the duck dish, and then two friends attempted their pasta dish without any meat. Each dish lacked something. In my dish, the duck one, well - it lacked proper flavor, and what I mean by this is I barely tasted the duck because it was so much butternut squash. Heavily, heavily sweet; I repeat that I barely tasted the duck. Mind you, the quality of ingredients was good, but it just left something to be desired. I think their dishes are quite innovative, but their execution is just not going as planned. I wondered if it was me, but this seemed to be the consensus in the table, especially for the pasta that I was told that the flavors just did not mesh well. Alas... I will start by saying the restaurant is clean, and they brought the kids something to color, but the compliments stop there. Firstly, your options are a sandwich that cost $18-$20, or a regular entree which costs $45+. No options in between. All things considered, I figure you can't go wrong with a burger. They proved me wrong. They asked how I wanted it, so I said medium well to play it safe. Burger came well done and dry. Not to mention it was huge. Which, I enjoy a big burger, but not a dried out well done burger... For the side, I got a house salad. Apparently they use AT LEAST a whole head of romaine for that salad, and the smallest cup of dressing possible. When I asked if I could get extra dressing for my behemoth of a salad, I was told it costs extra. The side salad cost an additional $4, and you can't provide enough dressing for it? I mean, I like salad, but plain lettuce with an essence of dressing was not what I expected. What am I, a rabbit? Overall, I don't recommend this place one bit. Value? Terrible. Food? Mediocre. Ambience? Like a mountain cabin fever dream. Service? Slow. In other words, "My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined." The two stars are for the ambiance. This is a nice, dark and cool place to rest after walking around Blue Ridge for a while. We waited almost 30 minutes for a table, only to get inside and be informed they were out of several things-- mildly annoying, but not a deal-breaker. They had what looked like some interesting craft cocktails. I ordered one, but unfortunately didn't get to try it since it arrived with two dead barflies floating on top. I opted for a bottled beer instead. They were out of the Brie, so we ordered the queso appetizer. It came out with stale tricolor corn chips-- the bottom of the bag I'd guess, based on the fact that it was half crumbs. It was the weirdest queso I'd ever had-- the only flavor in it was a hint of nutmeg. Not even any salt. Also, very difficult to eat, because it hadn't been cooked long enough to properly melt the cheese, so it was stringy and had to be pulled apart with your fingers to detach it. My husband ordered the Cuban sandwich, and it was ok, but not remotely what was described on the menu. It was supposed to have Brie and raisin jam-- instead, it had Swiss cheese and a metric crapton of yellow mustard. More an attempt at a classic Cuban than the interesting take the menu suggested. I had the hot brown, and I'm glad I did, because it solved the mystery of the weird 'queso'-- it was split mornay sauce with corn kernels added to it. Alas, putting it over turkey and undercooked bacon didn't give it any more flavor, but the oversmoked turkey drowned everything else out anyway. We both had pasta fredda for our side, and it just tasted like olive oil-- again, no flavor, not even salt or pepper. We may have tried dessert, if not for the fact that our waiter seemed rushed and copiously annoyed by our presence. He dropped the check without offering anything else, after loudly giving his opinion to the table next to us on unmarried people with children and what constitutes a worthy credit score in a wife. First let me start off by saying we absolutely love the food and the atmosphere at Harvest on Main most of the time. But we have been completely turned off by the foul language we've heard not once but several times coming from behind the restaurant. This language was so foul that we turned around and left. We had our grandchildren with us and we were not going to subject them to that. When it was just me and my husband we tolerated it thinking maybe the lady was having a bad night. But this is the 3rd or 4th time we've heard her talking so loudly you could hear her all the way down next to the railroad tracks.
