We rolled in the door here fairly late here on a Friday night. After checking in and dropping our stuff off in the room, we headed down to the 3rd floor of the Hyatt Regency to test out the Salon 300 Bistro. Overall, we were OK with it but not tickled. Wait staff was friendly and prompt; never had to spend too much time waiting for anything. However, I should note that it was late and there weren't too many people there. I had two Tanqueray and tonics. Mama had a mojito. Both drinks ok, no problems. I started with cream of crab soup. Decent flavor, decent hunks of meat; no complaints. My main course was the Mushroom Ravioli with artichoke hearts and spinach. My wife's main course was the Chicken Oscar, with asparagus and hollandaise. Each was ok, but not stellar. Kids had macaroni and cheese, which was serviceable. No desserts ordered. This place was alright, but wasn't any great shakes if you know what I mean. Located in the Hyatt Regency Baltimore. This cafe/bar area is pretty cool (for being in a hotel). The staff is nice. The first night I hit up the bar area . Got a few drinks while watching the olympics. Met some cool people (some local / some tourists). The next day I came back for brunch. For a flat fee they have an AYCE buffet w/ Pancakes (just ask your sever). The food was very good. The staff was very friendly. This is a cool place to sit and relax and have a drink if you don't feel like going outside and dealing w/ the crowds of tourists. read more

Normally would not have entered in a hotel restaurant to eat if I was not staying there, however I got a deal on travel zoo for Bistro 300 and brought my fiance' to check it out. It is located on the third floor of the Hyatt. We were a little concerned after checking yelp before hand and then when walking in by the empty tables. But we sat down and gave it a try, and we are really glad we did. Atmosphere: Cool pond and classy decor. Normally I would recommend folks go formal, but can go casual being that it is in a hotel. Service: I could write two pages on how awesome our waiter Said was. The best waiter I have ever had, which said a lot because I was in the service industry years ago. Every dish he recommended was spot on from appetizer to desert. He was attentive, knew the wines, and every time he came by our table seemed like perfect timing. Appetizer: The tomato app was great. It was 4 large pieces of yellow and red tomatoes lightly grilled with balsamic vinaigrette. The calamari was decent, large portion of calamari with yellow banana peppers and nice spices. We prefer it a little spicier, but nothing a few red peppers in the sauce would not take care of. Entree: Said told us they have the best crab cakes in Baltimore and we rolled our eyes. But truthfully they were the best I have ever had. My fiance' let me try them, I was lucky. She received 2 HUGE crab cakes. I have never eaten crab cakes with so much crab meat in them before, delicious. I ordered the steak and shrimp. The shrimp and steak were seasoned and cooked perfectly. I was happy with the garlic mashed. It is one of my favorite side dishes. Desert: The apple pastry was almost too much. Recommend sharing the desert, as they are huge and one person can not finish one. The Carmel was rich, and the ice cream tasted great. My stomach hurt from being full after the meal! I have reviewed many restaurants on yelp and let me say this has been one of the best restaurants I have been to in awhile. Of course I have to factor in that I had an awesome deal, about 50% off the meal. All in all 2 apps, 2 entrees, 3 glasses of wine, and 1 desert would have been around $115. Even if I had paid that much for the meal I would still be overwhelmed and pleased with the food and service. The only negative is that when visiting Baltimore, a hotel restaurant in general would not be my first choice. However if you are going to the city for multiple days, or are craving crab cakes there is no other place in Baltimore that is comparable. Make sure you ask for Said, he is the man. I certainly will be going back, and next time people from out of town come to visit and want crab cakes, that is where I will take them. read more

The place was grossly understaffed; the two servers who were working were literally running around with sweat dripping off their foreheads. I give them points for their effort in trying to maintain the crowd though. Who knew that a hotel restaurant could be popular. Of course, we also watched more than a few tables walk out without ordering. We weren't in a rush, so we didn't mind the wait. We ordered a crab salad appetizer, which was ok. Nothing special. And for entrees, we were directed to their steak and crab cakes. Neither was bad, but neither were great either. The steak was under-seasoned and the crab cakes were dry. I love the atmosphere here. Very calming. We came here for lunch during Restaurant Week - I can't say that I would ever come here otherwise because the food is pretty pricey - but RW was a great deal. The crab cakes were fantastic (and I don't even like crab), as was the burger. Our desserts were less than awesome, but they were more of a bonus on the meal anyway. Would've been upset if we'd actually paid full price for them. The waitstaff was also great, and though there were few other diners, they were friendly. It was really, really hard to find, but I think it was just because the hotel's lobby was under construction. Overall, I would recommend this for Restaurant Week or if you don't care about how much you spend! read more

The $5 Canvas Pinot Noir, not bad! Used my free check-in appetizer on the scallops and beet salad. You get 3 scallops. One of the 3 was chewy, but otherwise good. My entree was the Rockfish, quinoa, and spinach dish. Very flavorful, yet healthy. I'd order it again if I ever stay here at the Hyatt in the future. There is a bar menu and a full menu. Service was attentive and she remembered my name the whole time. It was pretty empty on this early Monday evening, so I got great service. I went here during Baltimore's Restaurant Week on a nice evening date. I'm not sure why I chose to come to Bistro 300, given that it is secluded on the third floor of the Hyatt, but I do not think I'll be back. That is not to say that the food was bad. The food was fine. However, I search for the best, not mediocrity. I had several complaints about the meal. First, the "cajun" sauce that was supposed to come atop the salmon was actually just a spicy marinara sauce. It had to be removed to make the fish edible. Second, the menu called for green beans to accompany the salmon. Bistro 300 had, unfortunately, neglected to resupply the pantry, so our waiter substituted asparagus for the green beans. Finally, like the green beans, the salted caramel cake was unavailable, so we were offered cheesecake instead. Never one to turn down cheesecake, I ordered it. As the waiter brought it out, I instantly recognized the Bistro 300 cheesecake to be the very same you can buy at the grocery store in a Sara Lee box. On the positive side, I liked the spicy chicken pasta and the pink panther (aka watermelon mojito). Being seated next to the indoor fountain is tranquil too. read more

I had the crab dip soup thing (forgot the exact name) which was great, although could use a little more crab. What was a bit dissapointing was the chessapeak chicken. I was expecting a grilled or pan-seared chicken breast. What I got was something that looked, tasted, and felt boiled. Yuck. It's an awesome little spot on the 3rd floor of the Hyatt Regency that I think is unknown or overlooked by Baltimore city residents. The staff seemed really excited to have new customers so the service was impeccable. They checked on us regularly and our food came quickly and was fresh and tasty! I was disappointed by the service my friend and I received at this restaurant. It was a Friday night and there was barely anyone in the restaurant which didn't bother us at all and we assumed as a result the service would be great. Sadly, not the case. The waiter was horrible. First, we had to ask for menus, then we had to ask what the specials were, then when my friend asked if there were any drinks that the bar was especially known for the waiter responded by saying they were all popular! When she ordered a drink and taste it, she asked the waiter a few questions he became irritated and went back to the bar and brought her a new one...He then was about to take the fruits from the first drink with his hands and put them on the new drink! My friend then asked him if she could keep the drink menu so she could look it over and perhaps order a second drink...he told her no! It got really funny after that......shortly thereafter we had a new waiter. The new waiter was friendly and when we asked him what happened to the other waiter, he told us he went home.....but he didn't. He was lurking in the background! In any event, the new waiter was very pleasant and polite. He brought us bread...which of course the other waiter didn't. Bottom line, the second waiter was more pleasant, explained the menu and brought us drinks without any rudeness all the while the first waiter sat in a chair in the back of the room....needless to say, it was a strange experience. I've been here twice -- service was exceptional on both occasions. (We had Willie once and Saeed once.) Location is convenient to Camden Yards, downtown, and inner harbor. Ask to get your parking validated if you park in the Hyatt garage. On to the food -- The crab soup is great, definitely worth consideration. Of the entrees, the crab cakes are very good, as is the teriyaki salmon. I'm not usually big on dessert, but the home made twinkie was interesting and bears no resemblance to the mass produced kind! The only downside is, as someone else noted, it really depends what time you go to this restaurant, because the kitchen could be tied up with catering some of the big conferences or they could be understaffed just in general. It's hard to say. I can say that the servers there are some of the most attentive/nicest I've had in town. I will say that if unless you are absolutely in the mood for steak, I'd recommend Bistro 300 over Sullivan's or Morton's (which are closeby on either side of this location). read more

The Bistro is a nice restaurant at the Hyatt. I ate there for breakfast and the food is good, but the service is superb. The staff must have taken some training at the Ritz Carlton (my favorite hotel) because they address my every need for my dining experience. Additionally, I was dressed in my workout clothes, because I had just come from the gym and was treated as if I had on my a tailored made suite. We've stayed in this hotel a few times as well as visited Bistro 300 for a quick bite and drinks. It's been fantastic each time, and this time was no different! The service is friendly, quick, and definitely helpful. Never have had a rude waitress/waiter and they have always more than graciously given us "tips" on what their favorite is..and each time it has NOT disappointed! Loved the crab cakes...I have to say, when I'm out visiting family and friends from New England, any places I've gone in Bmore is fabulous when it comes to seafood..and this time, was again, fantastic. Wow! Pretty impressed for a hotel restaurant. The food was interesting with lots of small plate options to satisfy any palate. The service was attentive. I liked it! Crab cakes were a little bready. The short-rib poutine was over-the- top rich and filling, but isn't that what poutine is all about? Wines by the glass were limited, but there again a nice variety. I can only review for breakfast, but I will say that I was pleasantly surprised. Came here on a THursday around 8 AM for a client breakfast. Usually I go in expecting a buffet, perhaps a lame continental breakfast and mediocre coffee. I was surprised to have attentive wait staff, many options for both buffet and a la carte and I had my tea pot full always. I had the greek wrap with egg whites and some sort of tzatziki sauce.
