What a great find in a town with hard to find great eating...we made a reservation on Open Table and were all set to eat here on a quick trip to McCall. To our mistake we went to their original location which was not open for walk ins last night. With some quick directions we went to the newer larger location that is located right on the water. Inside very nice and clean with a newly remodeled feel to the place. Our super friendly hostess apologized for the mid-step and sat us at our table. During the day the views would be outstanding because overlooks beautiful Payette lake, but the snow covered patio was also a nice backdrop. Before I go further I will say that the hostess might've been one of the most friendliest people I have encountered. She walked us through the menu and a few recommendations along with the new theme and vision of the restaurant/ wine bistro bar. After a short wait our waitress came over and also was super friendly and made this whole experience extra special. For food we started off with the baked brie and apples. Whole not the best presentation the states were amazing and really enjoyed it. For dinner I had the New York steak with grilled veggies and onion rings. My wife had the beef shank with creamy mushroom and truffle pasta. Both of these dishes were absolutely delicious. My steak could've been seasoned a little better but it was cooked perfectly and the chimichuri on the side was perfect. While I already had too much to eat my wife's dinner looked and smelled so good I had to have a bite. Wow!! And Wow!! So delicious and the star for sure being the shank but the mixed mushrooms were amazing! We loved our experience and the service was 100 stars ! I would for sure be back to try more of their menu. The best thing about this place is the outdoor seating. Right next to the lake. It was beautiful the evening that we were there. The food was mediocre at best. My pork chop was overdone and kind of dry. The chicken parm was mostly crust, not a lot of chicken. The steak was better. The wine was great, and at a great price. No liquor bar here. If you want a mixed drink it will be out of a can. Our server was really busy and forgot about our wine until a minute before the food arrived. Overall, not a horrible experience but not great either. read more

Amazing dinner with a view. Our server Leticia could not have been better. My wife had the pesto salmon and I had the elk burger. The skin on the salmon was beautifully seasoned and crisp. The elk burger was juicy and seasoned lightly so you could taste that it was elk. The prices were not expensive and the wine choices were huge. Get the cheesecake with huckleberry so good read more

Made a reservation for 6:15. Terrible service - had to track down server, took 30 minutes to get water to the table, never any appetizers or food and walked out after 1 hour and 15 minutes. We talked to the server multiple times and to the manager. We will never go back read more

Lovely view, great service, reasonable prices and best of all good food. Our selections for 2 cost $70 before tip and left us a bit to take home. Chop salad with glass of recommended white wine, Apple Manchego salad, 3 tapas and a piece of coconut cake to go. Turkish ribs and chef special of the day flatbread would have been plenty with our salads, but we had I try thee bacon-wrapped dates: great with the white wine and warmed over the next day at home. Location...locaton...location!!! The views from the patio are outstanding! Definitely sit outside when you can. The inside of the restaurant looks nice with tons of tables as well.The staff were all nice and fun to engage with. I ordered the Pork Medallions as my main course. The dish arrived nice and warm with great aroma. The plating looked very yummy. The dish had tons of flavor between the abundance of spices and onions/peppers. The pork was cooked perfectly. Tender. Juicy. Flavorful. To finish off the great dish is a good portion of Spanish rice. If you are looking for some great food; great scenery; great drink options; great service...look no farther! WOW.. what an amazing dinner. They had a full bar, and long wine list. Drinks were creative, different, and delicious (not excessively sweet either)... the food was absolutely amazing...everyone at my table tried something different and loved it... and the desserts were amazing, beautiful, and all made in house from scratch. This was probably one of the best restaurants I've been to, and probably the best restaurant in McCall... all the servers and bartender were so kind and great at what they do! Huckleberry mule.... Basil lemon drop... buttermilk chicken... fried veggies... mushroom purses... shrimp scampi... paella.... Smoked trout.... Pesto salmon... chicken and bacon pasta.... YUM! We have eaten at all Chef Topple's restaurants past and present. They do a great job. Service was fast! McCall is usually understaffed so we were prepared to wait. But everything came out quickly. The pesto salmon was PERFECT! Perfectly cooked! Patio is mostly shaded so it's a great place after a day at the lake. I love how Chef Topple is visible and even running food. He's usually around at the restaurant in Donnelly too. read more

The food was okay it was better prior to the change in ownership. Also, the service was satisfactory. Our waitress was pleasant however she wasn't attentive enough. The ambiance, which is normally nice, looking at the lake and peaceful, was not that way today. A young boy, nine or ten years old, was playing the piano that belonged to the restaurant. He played the same song over and over and also very loudly. The parents sat watching while their son played continuously for 30-45 minutes. It became very annoying as the outside porch is not very large. I'm on the fence if it's worth it to go back. read more

Once the food arrived one of our sandwiches had to be sent back because it was horrible. Make reservations! I came into this place and they had no customers. They had only been open for a few minutes. I was told to wait, but wish I was asked about reservations then. After waiting a bit longer, someone came by and asked if I had reservations and told me you can't get in without them. I'm sure they have some non-transparent limitations not made clear to me, but it was a bit off putting. Perhaps it's great if you get in, but that was not available for me. read more

We loved our experience at Bistro 45! The deck and view are amazing and service was perfect! We had the fish and chips and the fungi flatbread. Although the restaurant was not nearly at capacity, we still ended up waiting over 1.5 hours. Scenery was great and staff were polite and professional. Although the food had good ingredients, the dishes were not well cooked or seasoned. I am familiar with Salmon river farms pork, and it is some of the best pork I have had when cooked well. However, the pork chop from this same supplier was overcooked and chewy when served at this location. One of our party had overseasoned vegetables while mine was bland. The salmon was over cooked, chewy and dry. The poor serving staff seemed very flustered with having to deal with such slow service and complaints. The restaurant would benefit from more chefs or decreasing the seating limit. It seems the managers are more concerned with making money rather than offering quality service. read more

Our party of four had the most wonderful evening tonight at Ragazza di Lago. We were concerned with the recent bad reviews last month but decided to try it for ourselves. The Apple manchego arugula salad was a delightful experience! Two of us ordered the short rib pasta (short ribs were roasted over four hours and just melted in our mouths). This was was one of the best dishes we have had in a very long time. Chicken Parmesan in creamy spinach artichoke sauce was creamy and moist, another hit that I would order again. The lemon shrimp fettuccine was fresh tasting with lots of shrimp and a great lemony flavor to the sauce, another winner! We couldn't stop there, for dessert we had Chocolate pot de creme, Limon Budino with raspberries and two Apple strudel with cinnamon gelato. We sampled each others desserts and unanimously agreed they were all unique, delicious and clearly had been made with love. Chef/owner Steven Topple stopped by our table to ask how our food was during dinner and returned again to help deliver dessert. You can tell how much pride he takes in his restaurant, his food and everyone's dining experience. Without a doubt we will return again. EVERYTHING! Was great! We wanted to sample several things so had two tapas and two entrees. Scallops entre, seafood paella entre, ahí tuna ceviche tapas, and flatbread of the day. Flavors were wonderful and quite Mediterranean / spanish. The ahi ceviche with the crab chips grew on me. It was very fresh and the sauce/salsa was very tasty. My second time only sample ceviche. The coconut cake with Valencia filling was sweet and very tasty. Staff was pleasant end helpful. Beautiful location right on Payette lake. Dine in our out. I would highly recommend this place. Since Bistro 45 merged to become the new Bistro 45, it is just as great as it was before, but even more beefed up, more menu selections and the icing on the cake is Chef Topple is now at the helm with his amazing dishes! Its a great combination of the dishes that the old Bistro 45 used to serve and some of Chef Topple signiture dishes. Service is excellent, the restaurant has amazing views and lots of seating.
