Rigatoni with shrimp, fresh tomatoes & capers.

We stayed at the Hotel Abrego and only realized they had a small restaurant after we had checked in. The menu looked really inviting so we decided to eat dinner at the bistro. We had 3 items: tacos, pasta with shrimp and their seasonal salad. Everything was freshly made and absolutely delicious. We asked the customer next to us if he had ever eaten there before & he said, "every night!" He apparently worked week days in Monterey & that's the place he liked to frequent. The dining was a pleasant surprise. The prices were less than what we would typically pay for lunch. Even if we weren't staying at the hotel, we would still choose the restaurant. The first time in my life actually loving hotel food! I think the reason it's not packed is that there's little on line about this place.

a plate of food on a table

I was shocked! We saw this place on yelp and walked in. It is inside a hotel but the food is soooo good!! Chicken skewers and ribs were so tender and tasty. The bruschetta was amazing. Ernie our server was so welcoming and the food is delicious. It's like having dinner at a friends house. You have to try this place!!!

Chef's Special : Bread Pudding a la Mode w/ caramel sauce...sooooooo good

Long drive from San Diego so we didn't feel like going out for dinner...so glad we didn't. Decided to eat at the Bistro and we were not disappointed. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi and he ordered the Bacon and Brussel Sprout Flat Bread. Not what we were expecting- i thought it was a pasta dish but it came witj toasted sour dough bread and the sauce was so delicious that I could have drank it right out if the plate. The flat bread came in a different presentation but absolutely delicious! Then came the dessert...the bread pudding...what a wonderful way to end the meal! Didn't take pics of the food because we were hungry and we went to town as soon as it was served. Hat's off to the chef in that magic kitchen and Karen the Server/Barista/Awesome lady was great even with a full house.

We just has a pretty yummy dinner included with a deal for the hotel. It's a smaller restaurant but cozy so you can chat with loved ones. The service was good and he checked on us just the right amount of times. Even the Manager stopped by just to make sure we were happy. The appetizer we chose was the shrimp quesadilla. Super delish and the salsa paired perfectly to balance the roasted red peppers and caramelized onions. I got the garlic chicken pizza. Thin crust and a great amount of cheese made it super yummy. Try the Monterey Wheat beer they have on the menu.

But 1) this place came highly recommended from a few forum threads from about a year ago (argh) and 2) they charge a $25 cancellation fee for reservations. I'll start with the ok -- the pasta wasn't bad. But $35 for each is a bit ridiculous. Michelin guide spots in LA and SF don't charge that much. Not bad though, which is pretty much the only win for the night. The wine pours are truly embarrassing and the restaurant should be ashamed of them. I haven't seen such a small, IKEA sized glass since I was in college. The worst part is that patrons ordering a bottle of wine had the normal wine glasses you expect. So they have those glasses, they just choose to nickel and dime those paying by glass. That alone is just such bad form. The service of course was the atrocious cherry on top. Our server wasn't egregiously awful so I won't name him... but he forgot multiple parts of our order, brought a drink out after we'd finished our meals (because it took so long), and gave us the wrong receipt at the end. Mind you, there were only 2 other tables in our section. Yikes. I'm guessing this place was a gem and a hot spot a while ago, but since then, people moved on. In the meantime, I have a feeling they're struggling because of how much they nickel and dime their few existing patrons. It's a sinking ship and I hope management rights it... But for now, I'm sure you can do better for your money.

The…read morecheese bread with corn sounds a little strange, but somehow it totally works -- unique and delicious. The bacon cheeseburger was really good, the Caesar salad was a solid classic, and the fried chicken dinner was hearty and satisfying with two large pieces of chicken plus sides. The banana cream pie has a spin on it. I love the brûléed bananas. What stood out the most, though, was the service. My family is in the restaurant business, so I tend to have pretty high standards when it comes to hospitality and customer service. Our server, Razi, was truly excellent. He had the perfect balance of friendly and professional, made great recommendations, checked in often, and made sure we had everything we needed. At one point, I was feeling a little lightheaded, and he immediately brought me a cold towel and made sure my water glass stayed full so I could stay hydrated. That level of attentiveness really stood out to me. He was fast, efficient, customer-focused, and brought such positive energy to the restaurant. So many restaurants struggle these days with finding employees who seem trained, experienced, and genuinely engaged -- Razi was the complete opposite. He was outstanding. I even made a point to share positive feedback with the owner before leaving because great employees deserve recognition. I honestly could see Razi managing this restaurant -- or another one -- someday. As a fun side note, we also learned he's a singer/rapper, which somehow perfectly matched his great personality and energy. Really memorable experience overall.

I went with a group for a business dinner and made a reservation about a week prior. Our server was very knowledgeable and nice and incredibly attentive. We ordered a couple of bottles of wine and she repeatedly came and refilled our glasses. We ordered the calamari, beet salad and crab and avocado salad to share for starters. All were delicious and I really enjoyed the calamari. For entrees 3 of the group ordered the daily fish special and highly enjoyed it. I opted for the scallops and they were very delicious! The desserts were the star of the show and we tried one of each on the menu! The bread pudding was my favorite while all others were amazing as well! I highly recommend this place!

However, they do not have a large selection of local wines so that was disappointing. I was hoping there would be a page featuring "local wines". Glad we brought a wine from Odonata with us. We enjoyed all the food offerings! The biscuit is truly fantastic. I know it's just a biscuit but I really loved the buttery crust and the super soft insides that melted in your mouth. The trout appetizer was tasty... The cracker it was served on was super hard and a bit hard to chew. So... I skipped that and didn't feel I was missing anything. The crab salad was filled with chunks of crab! It was lightly dressed to let the crab shine. Our mains were quite tasty and perfectly prepared. Take note, the clam linguine is generously powered by garlic. The clams are fat and juicy.
