I would have given Jasper Murdoch's a higher score, but our server detracted from our experience…read more I know he was working solo, but the moment we sat down, he told us what time we had to leave because there was another reservation at such and such a time. We also had a reservation and had arrived on time. The food was fresh, very good, generous, and as others have pointed out, pricey. I only ate half my dinner and intended to take the rest home. Another employee took my plate and set it aside, and the server threw it away. No offer to rectify the situation in any way, just a shrug with an apology without accountability and out the door we went. There were only two other people in the dining room, no one was waiting in the lounge for a table, and we had been very quiet and not in the least way demanding. I had been scoping this as a potential venue for my board of directors dinner as well as for when I have house guests. Sadly, this one is off the list. I would be so embarrassed to have guests treated this way. One good callout: three of the five entrées offered were vegetarian and the salads were huge.

Also tried the flight of beers on tap which was a fun addition to the meal!

I had the halibut and salad, which were delicious and both made great use of locally grown blueberries. The kids didn't appreciate the pasta with butter and cheese having homemade pasta; they didn't like that it was a more difficult shape to eat than a standard penne-like pasta. But I tried it and thought it was unusually delicious for that standard kid dish. And very reasonably priced, too. Several menu items I didn't get to try sounded great, too. Sorry that I won't have a chance to go back on our trip.

The worst thing about Skunk Hollow is how the bill is padded…read more They CHARGE TEN DOLLARS ($10 )for a small basket of BREAD!!! Next , they will charge you for a glass of water. I like the place and the food is not great but it is usually at least okay. But the meal starts off with a bad taste when they charge for bread which is FREE almost everywhere else. And there's nothing special about the bread! Come on Skunk Hollow, you are treating customers like airlines do! Will you have to pay to use the toilets soon? How about charging for use of the forks and knives? You take advantage of the fact that people are most hungry when they arrive and more likely to give in to your unforgivable greed. I know others who don't want to go there just because of the obscene BREAD CHARGES! It's insulting

And this year was THE YEAR to hit up Vermont for skiing b/c they got more snow than they've gotten in almost a decade--so the skiing was the best east coast skiing I've experienced ever! And, if you're in Vermont skiing, you must drop by Main Mountain Bar & Motel. We weren't staying there as motel guests, but we heard that Main Mount was the place for fancy cocktails... and whoever told us this information was spot on!! Every cocktail we tried at Main was unique and super tasty. My favorite was the Good 'Ol Boy cocktail, but I also recommend the New England Sour--it's like a Whiskey Sour but with Mulled Wine and Cocoa on top. As for atmosphere and service, both are great! The interior decor is more like a cozy (but slightly modern) mountain house library (an atmosphere you might expect in a hip Brooklyn bar), and it's very inviting! And the bartender and servers are amazing and really friendly. As for food, we didn't try any on the first visit, but we ended up going back to Main Mountain on our last night of the trip b/c we found out that, on Sundays, they host a burger night! Ummm... yes!!!! So, we went back, I had another Good Ol' Boy, and we downed some yummy Smash Burgers and French Onion Mac & Cheese! Oh, and PLEASE order a side of their pickles! They are life-changing! Bottom line = check out this bar if you are in Ludlow, Vermont for skiing at Okemo or just visiting for some other reason. You are sure to love it like we did.
