I would really like to give this place a higher mark. Our first visit to Bistro Seven Three was a great experience, but the most recent trip was an overall fail. Me and my now husband found this place through Yelp, just randomly searching for venues that could hold our wedding rehearsal dinner. We were happy to find out that this place is actually a BYO. It worked perfectly for us since my husband's family makes their own wine. There were 12 of us in total for the rehearsal dinner. Food arrived at the right time and it was just delicious (we picked salmon with risotto and chicken saltimbocca). We got tiramisu for dessert and it turned out to be one of the best ones we had! We left that night thinking we will be have to return to try some of the other options on their menu. We went back on the New Year's Eve night and I guess that was a mistake. We got a table for 5:30 PM and the restaurant started filling up around 6:00 PM. Somehow, they managed to get us out in under an hour. We hoped for a nice romantic meal, a first dinner out as a married couple. What we got was rushed service and mediocre quality food. It was like a completely different restaurant compared to our rehearsal dinner! All of the waiting staff were very friendly, but I heard them push that night's specials just a little bit too hard. We actually ordered one of their specials - a bone in veal parm with rigatoni. Sadly, it was a massive disappointment at $37 a plate. What we got looked like yesterday's dinner reheated in a microwave, it lacked any flavour. My mushroom risotto was overcooked and terribly bland. Annoyingly, our water glasses were being topped up after pretty much every sip which meant we had a waiter reaching out across our table every few minutes. Half way through our dinner I stopped drinking the water just to avoid it. At this point I am sightly confused and unsure what to make of this place. The food can be good, but lacks consistency. I come from Europe and getting rid of the customers in an hour during a dinner sitting is a big no-no; outside of the food you also pay for the experience. Also, to the management - please allow the waiting staff to relax a little; I don't know many people that enjoy a pestering waiter during a romantic night out. read more

We went here for a birthday, while the food was very good, when the waiter began to take our order he said ' we need this table by 8:30 that pretty much set the tone for the evening! Upon leaving I told the owner and he defended the waiter, offered no apologies. When I said we would not be back, he said have a good night. This place has amazing food. We started with an appetizer sampler. It comes with tomato & burrata, meatballs, calamari, and sushi pizza. We changed out the sushi pizza for zucchini chips. Everything was so delicious. I had a dinner special of veal milinese, and it was fabulous. Service was exceptional, and to make it even better, it's BYOB. I don't know what happened last night. We took friends because our dinner there last December was excellent. Last night was not good at all. The reception was wonderful but the food was sub par. I ordered braised short ribs, which I could not eat. The meat was so dry I could not swallow my first bite and instead only ate the accompanied mashed potatoes. It reminded me of overdone pot roast. My husband's duck was overdone as well. The waiter didn't even ask me why I left my entire plate of food uneaten. Big disappointment. read more

Had dinner with eight friends last evening and thoroughly enjoyed every morsel from appetizers through dessert, It's BYOB which allowed us the freedom to imbibe and share from our own stocks of wine and liquors. We ate at this restaurant on April 22 without reservations. Quickly got a table, but slow to get service. Menu is focussed and reasonable, specials were enticing. We both shared an appetizer, buffalo mozzarella with roasted peppers in a balsamic vinaigrette. Very nice and well portioned. My wife had the pasta and lobster special which was very flavorful and well cooked. I had a veal scallopini special which was a bit tough. Desserts were good but expensive. My upside down pineapple dessert was warmed beyond caramelization and tasted slightly burned. The atmosphere in this place leaves much to be desired. Very loud and seating is a bit crowded. Service was slow to find us as we appeared to be at a table between waiters. Once found, service was pretty good until our waiter tipped my wife's water glass over, soaking her arm. Numerous apologies, but was a deciding factor in our final evaluation. Overall ok dining experience at high prices. read more

Excellent from start to finish! Dined last weekend and everything was incredible. We started with the mushroom bisque, crab cake, and goat cheese tart and nothing disappointed. This was our first visit to Bistro Seventy Three and it was less than stellar. We had reservations and were seated promptly. Our server handed us the menus and went through the daily specials. After a few minutes, he came back to take our order but we asked for a few additional minutes. That turned out to be a mistake. We waited about 15 minutes before our waiter returned to take our order. Afterward, we waited 20 minutes before our appetizers came to the table. It was frustrating to see other tables, who came in after us, receive their appetizers and entrees before we saw our first spoonful of food. Our entrees came about 10 minutes after we finished the appetizers. Both entrees were warm, not hot, and had to be sent back to the kitchen. Our waiter was none too pleased and did not apologize for the problem. After we did receive warmer entrees, I would characterize the food as good, not great. My wife's pasta dish was over-sauced, burying whatever meat was in the sauce. My chicken dish was good. Although we did not order a dessert, our server did serve us a complimentary cheesecake dessert. That was much appreciated. I will also add that the restaurant is oddly laid out and very noisy. There does not appear to be a table away from the flow into and out of the kitchen. We were seated on a corner and the wait staff continuously flew by our table. And the noise made it difficult to have a normal conversation. Although I would give Bistro Seventy Three a two-star rating, my wife insisted that I give it three. Gotta agree with all the high ratings for food. And it's very tough to find food this good in a BYO restaurant. Only neg, our waiter was on the imperious and snooty side. Got the job done but didn't smile once and made it clear he was not pleased when the four of us were not instantly ready to order. Not a big deal, didn't ruin the meal, but it was noticeable - didn't match the high standard the food hit. But with a more congenial server, this place really would be perfect. My first time at Bistro Seven Three (BYOB) was on Friday, December 19 for my department's Christmas luncheon. We are a department of 22 or so and were well accommodated. We more or less had the whole front part of the room to ourselves. One of the management staff ordered appetizers for the tables. We had eggplant (not a fan of eggplant unless it's grilled so I didn't try that), Ahi Tuna Bruschetta (not a fan of sushi so I didn't try that), Fried Calamari, and Fresh Tomato and Mozzarella. The calamari was perfectly cooked. It wasn't soggy and the breading color wasn't light. It was very tasty. Even the bread on the table was fresh and soft and the butter was good too. I ordered the pasta special with Fettuccini, sun-dried tomatoes, porcini mushrooms in a port wine cream sauce. I am by far NOT a fan of cream sauces but I figured let me try it because it's something I never get. While I felt there was a little too much cream sauce poured on, it was very good. I only ate half and brought the rest home. It tasted even better left over and less heavy. For dessert I had this fabulous pistachio tartufo in a chocolate shell cut in quarters with whip cream in the middle. OMG so good but I couldn't finish it. Too bad I live so far away or I would go back on the weekend. I definitely recommend this establishment. read more

While the food here is very good, we had an unbelievable experience on Saturday. We waited almost 40 minutes for our table, only to find out that the reason for the delay was someone was watching the Yankees baseball game on a television above our table. Rather than either turning off the television or asking this person if he'd mind watching the game elsewhere, we were made to wait. One of our favorite restaurants, in fact this BYOB place is in our top 3 places to dine. The Bville location or the New Providence location are both stellar when it comes to food quality, presentation, service and freshness. We have enjoyed this place for many years... But the purpose of me finally writing a review was what we experienced this past weekend. Had a party with about 25 guests. ordered trays of food from the catering menu you can view online. Bistro 73 clearly outdid themselves! The food was phenomenal!!!! Delivered exactly when I was told it would be. Heated thoroughly ready to serve. Our guests praised the food we were serving. The party would have been a huge success with or without the food, but serving "Bistro 73" took the whole experience up a notch. Most people ate more than what they would normally, simply because they were enjoying what we served. I will also add the quantity was perfect. They knew exactly what we needed, did not over sell me on food I didn't need. If I did not listen to the suggested amount I would have ordered twice the amount, so they even saved me a few bucks from over ordering. Had a wonderful experience at Bistro Seven Three. Called before we came to see if they could give us a quiet table so my dad could hear during dinner. They had a special table in the corner waiting for us and diverted other diners to other parts of the restaurant to keep our area quiet. It was perfect. The restaurant is pretty and the outdoor area really adorable. Great atmosphere. The menu is so varied; everyone ordered something different. We usually have a few repeaters. Food was very good and the service was really beyond. They were so friendly and accommodating in every way. We didn't realize it was BYOB so we arrived without any wine. The manager brought us a bottle of his own. Amazing gesture. They brought us limoncello and cookies gratis at the end of our meal and the manager held the door open for my 88 year old parents when they left the restaurant to head to the car. Service and decor was very nice, but at the end of the day a restuarant is judged on its food My Fish entree was nothing to write home about by any means, and that resulted in the low rating. My dessert was good, my salad was fresh, and my Manhattan was average, but for $210 for 3 people I'd rather keep my options open the next time I am in town. read more

We tried Bistro 73 again tonight. Service and food were good. They make excellent French onion soup. The fettuccine with kale and sausage in Parmesan cream sauce is very rich and tasty. Our water classes were always filled, plates were cleared right away, and overall service was timely and on point. Came here for lunch one afternoon and had a great meal! Started with the stuffed pepper appetizer, My bf had the Swordfish with creamy polenta which he loved. His only complaint was that the polenta was a bit too creamy/cheesy, but I liked it. I had the Short ribs with mashed potatoes and spinach which was amazing! This place was an awesome find. Had the bouillabaisse and it was chock full of delicious seafood and ad an awesome flavorful tomato broth. Also, the place is BYOB which my coworkers and I were unaware of but the waiter totally rocked and was able to find us some red wine in the back and didn't even charge us. Talk about amazing service! We arrived early for our 6:30 reservation for 4 and were seated promptly. It went downhill from there. After hearing the specials it took another 20 minutes for our waiter to come back and take our orders. Our appetizers took 25 minutes to come out. The couple at the next table who arrived about 1/2 hr after us got their appetizers before us. Our plates were cleared. The couple next to us then got their dinners before us. At 7:50 - an hour and 25 minutes after being seated, my husband called our waiter over to inquire about our food - he got a big smile on his face, prompting my husband to tell him it really wasn't anything to smile about, and said the kitchen was running a little slow. Our dinners arrived 5 minutes later at which point i ate the green beans on my plate because i'd lost my appetite, as did my husband, long before the food arrived. I had my short rib and mashed potato packed up to take home. Dessert was offered on the house which was appreciated - but this was not a good dining experience at all. We frequent Bistro 73 every other month, sometimes more often. This is the first time we have ever experienced this,but it was so bad my husband and i agreed that we'd probably think twice before going back. read more
