We all enjoyed the food and the ambience.. My wife loved wedge...portions were generous and delicious. The service was great and our server was friendly and welcoming. Just moved back to the area after a 20 year hiatus, and desperately looking for my new go to spots. This definitely will be in my rotation. Food (so far) has been exceptionally good with massive portions. Short ribs are tdf, as was the fish and chips, fish tacos and steak medallions - just don't order the chips with queso :/ Service is super friendly and the place is loud. read more

First time here and while I will be back, this wasn't a 5 star experience. We sat at the bar on a Sunday night, heard great things about wings and burger here so we ordered both. We asked if we should order our wings well done and our bartender said everyone usually does, so we did - there was absolute no crisp to this fried wing. The sauces were good, would not have again. We enjoyed the tavern vibe and sitting at the bar is our favorite. Sadly as we were at the end of our meal, the patrons just sitting next to us got the "specials menu" and this must've missed us. Good ambiance, our waiter Katrina was fabulous a&the rest of the staff were also great, 5 star service. We got there early & we're lucky to get a close parking spot. We had goat cheese fritters for appetizer 10/10 Bacon Jalapeño poppers flatbread with the bacon on the side my wife put the bacon on hers & said it was even better with it,10/10 The beer cheese Mac & cheese was really good despite my phobia of any screw looking pasta,portion as huge & I took it home as leftover which went up in taste as leftover 11/10 The one disappointment was the turkey burger, giiven the delicious taste of everything else. The patty literally had no flavor but all the fixings on the burger were great I would give it a 4/10. I definitely would not recommend the Turkey burger but I would still recommend this Tavern & will definitely go back when visiting the area. read more

At entry, there's a sign that says please wait to be seated but no one greets you or appears on a Sunday eve. A guest even acknowledged us. A waiter walked by w/o stopping. Eventually we were offered the bar seating while there were 3 tables for 2 available. I was seconds from leaving, feeling unwelcomed. We got seated and ordered burgers and the drink of the day, Pineapple Tito. Burgers were huge and delish, altho the smell of bleu cheese permeated everything. Lucky I like Bleu cheese. I had a great experience at the Claremont Tavern! The wait staff is super friendly and the food is tasty! Street parking in front of the restaurant is limited however, parking in the church parking lot right next door is approved. They have indoor & outdoor seating. Inside gives off a dive bar vibe & the outdoor area has cool lights which is perfect for summer dinning. I ordered the chicken dumplings & drunken grandma pizza to share. While both options were great, the pizza was definitely my favorite! I would recommend Claremont Tavern if you're in the area! read more

What a great place! Was looking for a lunch spot while we were in the Bernardsville area. Loved the menu with lots of choices. It had a lot of burger options. Great specials. Extensive beer and wine options. I had a Greek wrap and my husband had a sloppy joe sandwich. Both were excellent. They have outdoor seating. The inside is a cute bar with high and low tables. ***2 1/2 stars*** The Claremont was on my list to try for literally years, going back to when I worked fairly close by in Parsippany, but this past Thursday was when I finally made my debut. I don't recall what captured my attention initially, but I honestly don't see a return visit in my future for a myriad of reasons. Several other reviewers have mentioned it, and it bears repeating - the parking situation is rough. I love an authentic ye olde tavern like this, but one of the downsides of that can be limited spacing for vehicles (it's not like there was a need for them back in the day). There is no actual parking lot here - it looks like there's a small space to the side that could theoretically house a few cars for employees but it's definitely not publicly accessible to patrons - so you have to rely on street parking and hope that there's room for you within .1 miles of the entrance. I knew that ahead of time and pulled into a parking lot about two or three blocks away, which was fine, but something to certainly be aware of. I met up with a chum for dinner but was predictably a bit early so I made myself comfortable at the bar just to the left of the entrance for about 20 minutes. The biggest selling point here is the environment and their bartenders - very friendly with personal recommendations. I'm not in love with hanging out at the bar by myself, but it helps when the bartenders are welcoming and engaging for sure. I had two drinks over the course of the evening: a lavender lemonade and a peachy sangria. The lavender lemonade was very bland/watery. It was arguably refreshing at least but pretty tasteless for what it was. I wouldn't order it again. The sangria wasn't actually on the official cocktail menu, but I saw it being prepped for someone else and made an impulse call. That was better, but VERY sweet. Neither drink seemed to have much alcohol in it, based both on taste and the fact that I never ended up with even a slightly rosy hue on my cheeks. The bill for the two drinks came close to $30 without tip, so in hindsight I would have just stuck with water or soda. The food was also unfortunately pretty underwhelming. We split the calamari app, and at one of the bartender's recommendations, I ordered the drunken grandma pie (knowing it was a huge serving and leftovers would be forthcoming). There were pieces of the calamari that I thought were very tasty, especially with the spicy tomato chipotle sauce - that sauce was the star of the night in my estimation. But I'm honestly a little mystified at the addition of the balsamic reduction on this dish (which to be fair is absolutely referenced in the menu description). Palate-wise, it's just not a great blend of flavors in my opinion, so I avoided the pieces that were covered in that drizzle. When you have such an excellent accompanying sauce, why mess with perfection? It felt like an unforced error. The pie was also not great. The description referenced a vodka sauce, which is what I've encountered in drunken grandma pies at other establishments. However, this just tasted like normal tomato sauce, and you can see in the picture it just looks like a normal square cheese pie. I had a few slices of it, but the cheese was way too rubbery for me. Definitely a miss in my book. The service was uneven. As mentioned, I had no issues with the bartenders, but when we sat down nearby the wait time increased considerably. Our waitress was nice, but she had to come by at least two or three times to apologize for the wait on the food. It wasn't a huge deal since we weren't on a tight schedule, but it was noticeable enough to me where I'd be reluctant to come back here in a situation where I was pressed for time. This was a disappointment. My expectations may have been a little skewed because this place is pretty close to downtown Bernardsville so I assumed it would a little bougier, but when the drinks and food aren't particularly good, it's hard to find redeeming qualities to justify a second trip. read more

We love coming here on slower days (lunch time before 4). If you come on a weekend at 5 and later, you're waiting over an hour for a table and if you are lucky enough to be seated, it will take you at least 30 minutes to put your order in. They are very understaffed and have been for some time. The food is good, they have the best burgers! Its a cute cozy place, but unless they get more staff then we won't be coming here often. read more

I haven't been to the Claremont in years but I'm glad I went back. Met some friends for lunch and we all enjoyed our dishes. I had the margarita pie and I thought the crust was great. Service was good too. I was surprised by lack of parking because I remembered that a lot was available. It's no longer available but they allow parking in the church lot next door. There's a chalkboard sign outside with these instructions but I didn't see until I was walking in... if you're in the area, it's a solid choice. read more

Came here back in September of 2020 and loved their outdoor set up! They had plenty of seating outside which I felt was distanced nicely and they had string lights that looked gorgeous at night. We enjoyed listening to a local cover band while we ate. I enjoyed the wings trio -- we got the classic Buffalo, sriracha honey garlic, and creamy Buffalo. I found them to be saucy which was great. I got the Claremont burger which was alright. I thought the bacon was a bit too crisp but liked how it comes with the onion ring on top, nice touch. Our server was very MIA throughout the night and not very personable. I guess they were pretty busy that night, so we understand, but we did have to keep going up to the bar to get things we needed. Heads up, it was difficult to find parking by the restaurant; we were pretty lucky though that someone was leaving their spot on the street not too far away. read more

When I visited The Çlaremont Tavern there must have been a serious staffing issue. They were out of plates / utensils, it took forever to be seated / order / get our food. Everything was all wrong. Looking back we probably should've left and I regret that we decided to eat here. I get that staffing issues happen, but when operating at this level I just don't think it's right to stay open. They probably should have assessed the situation and closed temporarily, it's really just not fair for paying customers. read more

Parking is tough around here. There is some parking out on the street in front of the restaurant. Most of the street is riddled with 15 minute parking or no parking signs. I am not sure how tight they enforce the parking restrictions though. If you are in a pinch and don't want to risk a ticket, there is a park about 1/4 mile down the street from the restaurant that you can park for free. The patio is very nice. The weather was perfect while I was there. It has a bar in middle and is well decorated. I was there for lunch and it was packed. I ordered the Wuju Burger with a side of fries. The burger had the perfect combination of sweet and heat. It was delicious. I had a blackened/Cajun flavor. It came with two homemade flaky onion rings that were pretty good too. Even though it is really hard to mess up fries, there's was still pretty good. You get a ton of food and will leave there pretty full. They have a full bar, even though I was not able to partake. It looks like a nice spot to just get a bite to eat and get a cold adult beverage. I really liked this place and sure that you will too. read more

My friend invited me for dinner at The Claremont Tavern for a mid-week meetup. Upon getting to the location, I couldn't find any parking. There's no lot for the restaurant and the surrounding area is mostly residential. I happened to find a gravel parking lot two streets over where I was able to walk from. My friend and I were seated and soon discovered that there was literally one person handling all the tables. The bar area was very crowded and even the tables surrounding us were full, so I don't understand how they could possibly expect one person to handle service, plus cleanup, and food delivery. Our server was rushing around so much that I felt like we couldn't place additional orders or request refills, everything got slammed on our table in a quick hurry. I must agree with the masses, the service issues leave something to be desired. As for the food, I was very unimpressed with my pizza. While I appreciate that they have gluten-free crust, it wasn't baked long enough, and the basil pesto was so oily that my slices leaked all over when I tried eating. There was so much oil I almost asked for a bottle of Dawn to help soak up the mess. Unfortunately, I'll be skipping a visit to this spot again. read more

Good food by bar/tavern standard. The 48 hour braised beef short ribs are phenomenal but we'd recommend swapping the pasta for mashed potatoes to soak up the gravy. A friend of mine in the area will ONLY order this and eats there multiple times a month. Burgers are tasty, fillet mignonettes are good but it's all about the ribs. They have a super cute outdoor area in the back and also regular indoor seating as well. They have a very impressive beer selection with plenty of local options. We ordered some burgers, a pizza and, a salad and wow the portions were HUGE. Everything was delicious and the burgers were cooked perfectly. The best thing was that no one rushed us. We ended up being the last people in the restaurant and not once did they make us feel like we had to leave. Solid 4 with a couple of caveats. As everyone says but it bears repeating - parking is a bear. The church parking lot driveway is right before the restaurant (it isn't marked at all). The service was good and everyone was super friendly. Now, the food. The two onion rings served atop the burger were very nice. A good tempura batter and the onions were cooked through. The chipotle ketchup was pretty tasty as well. The fries were just a touch underdone but still good as a side. The brioche bun on the burger was fresh and soft and the toppings were fresh as well. The one problem, as a few others have pointed out - no seasoning on the burger. It was very juicy and cooked perfectly. Just needed salt and pepper. Badly.
