I cannot explain how much I loved the experience that I had here. It was my first time, and a friend just brought me here, and that was definitely not the last. First of all, the place was so clean and the ambiance was just wonderful. The interior is so nice. It is simple, yet it looks really pretty, as does the décor. It is not spacious, but it has enough space. The service was really great. The waitress was friendly, attentive, and very patient whenever we asked for something. The menu has a wide variety of options for food and drinks. It was just me and my friend, and we ordered a lot of food. They have a sushi bar, and we mostly ordered sushi. We could see how fresh the seafood was and how the chef had made it. The food was really good. Everything is fresh, excellent quality, and definitely delicious. The servings per order are nice, as are the portions. We ordered different types of their sashimi, sushi, and maki, and literally everything was so good that all of it really stood out. I also like their gyoza, which is fried. We got mochi for dessert, and it was probably the best food I ate that night, aside from the sushi. It had a nice texture, and the flavor was really great. I definitely love this restaurant. Prices are good too. I highly recommend this to everyone who loves Japanese food. We got a tip from a friend about this place long time ago. Our only regret is that we waited so long to visit the place. This place has a very nice decor comparing to most sushi places and the staff is very friendly too. I somewhat agree the prices are a little bit higher than other places but I do not complain. This place ambience and quality of food compensate the price. We got fish carpaccio, Black Widow rolls (on special), Octopus salad and Seared Salmon rolls (also on special) . Everything was, fresh and delicious, fish carpaccio was amazing. I wish the had a bigger choice of beer, some craft IPA would be ideal. Their alcohol choice on the other hand is huge. I live in the neighborhood and am a strong supporter of our local restaurants and am used to being an appreciative tipper. I used to luv this option. However; that being said it pains me to rate them this low. But after my second "complete-miss" take-out order i have to say: -Beware if you are ordering take-out ! - after waiting an extra 30 minutes for my pickup I couldn't help but notice every dine-in table was filled despite current Covid guidance. The food was amazing! Had the Boston roll, Bistro Wasabi Roll, Veggie Tempura roll, and cucumber roll. Also ordered a spicy stir fry with vegetables. My only complaint is that they would not make us a spicy stir fry with tofu and vegetables. And they would not substitute any of the other dishes with tofu rather than meat. In this day and age, with vegetarian and vegan diets on the rise I would think they would be more accommodating. Maybe they were out of tofu? If so, then the waitress should have said so. read more

My only complaint is that the prices are pretty expensive in comparison to other suburb sushi spots. Other than this, the restaurant had a nice loungey ambiance and great sushi. I ordered the seaweed salad and crazy roll. Though slightly disappointed by the sole 4 pieces of the $16 roll, it was still generously packed with fresh tasty fish. The salad portions at this place is also where it's at! My dad ordered the Jeffrey's special salad- which we should have gotten with the dressing on the side- but it was the same size as the house salad just without the sashimi. What a pleasant surprise in a strip mall. We were out of ideas for take out or dine in and used Yelp as our guide. Traveling through Hoffman we thought we'd try this restaurant. Glad we did! Sat us outside in a shady, well-distanced spot. Received water, place setting and soy sauce right away. Towelette packets were welcomed as a start. Ordered raspberry chipotle shrimp appetizer and loved it! The starter salad was fresh and properly chilled. How much I appreciate a good salad to transition courses. We enjoyed our entrees, and sushi was very good. Nice job from start to finish. The only thing that startled us was not the fault of the establishment. A 12 percent tax was unexpected. Ouch! Getting right to it, I really didn't like this place. First the environment which is trying to be Urban, I found to be cold, uninviting, and sterile in feeling. It didn't help the temperature in the place was cold and maybe it was just me but I also found the chairs to be surprisingly uncomfortable. The benches have little cushions so maybe those are better. Food-wise it was definitely hit or miss. The beef dumplings and age tofu were ... well ... pretty awful. I don't like to be negative but I actually haven't had much worse. The beef mix for the dumplings was bland and had a bad texture. The tofu was like rubber. The salmon on the other hand, though cut thin and a little strange, was actually very good as was the super white tuna. I had these nigiri style. For me, that's where it ended though. The California and Rainbow rolls ordered were just mediocre which was disappointing; especially for the Rainbow roll as it was not only fishy in parts but also expensive at $14. Now I don't have a problem with a roll being $14 or even more but it should be pretty darn good not sub-par a typical $5-6 roll. Service was slow as someone else writes but otherwise I liked the staff and thought they did a good to excellent job. In any event, I personally can't recommend this place. Instead drive 15 minutes South on the same road to Sakura (pretty good sushi but only OK decor) or 20-25 minutes North to Kaminari or the other Bistro Wasabi which I've "heard" many like better. While a bit further, Wild Fish in Arlington Heights might also serve as a great alternative for those looking for a good combination of decor, food, and chicness in the suburbs. Apparently some like this place though so if you do go just don't order the beef dumplings or age tofu no matter how tempting it may seem! read more

For the love of all things, do not eat here. The only thing I hate more than crappy food is crappy, overpriced food. The good: When you pull up and see a strip mall, your heart will sink. But when you go inside, it's modern and bright. The hostess is very friendly. There are some minor design flaws that will probably only drive OCD suffers mad, such as the unevenly cut strips of felt material on the wall, but overall the room had a good vibe. There's a lively crowd. You will have higher hopes than when you got out of the car. Yes, as everyone said, the martinis are good. My pomegranate martini was fine, the pineapple upside down martini was above average. Go ahead and order a drink--you'll most likely enjoy it. The average: The avocado and cucumber maki was fine, even if it took quite a long time to come out. You probably can't go wrong with simple maki. Order with moderate caution. Oh my goodness, the bad: Here's where it all fell apart. My dining companion ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner. It came out about 10 minutes before my entree. Very poor timing. And poorly executed. The chicken was bland and overcooked. (At least the broccoli and asparagus were good.) Now for the pièce de résistance...the spicy chirashi. The menu said (I assumed chef's choice) sashimi & vegetables in spicy sauce with caviar over rice. All things I love. What could go wrong? What I got (10 minutes after my friend's' cooked entree) was a bowl full of what was probably tobiko roe with rice (the two best parts, as they at least were true to the menu description), mixed greens (like you'd get out of a carton at Jewel), slathered in gooey sauce, sprinkled with chopped up, unrecognizable chunks of raw fish, and topped with unidentifiable slices of something that may have been plain tofu. The waiter didn't tell me what kind of "sashimi" was in the dish--as he seemed a little disorganized and rushed--but it *looked* like bits of tuna, salmon, and perhaps hamachi sliced up into nickle sized pieces. It *tasted* like disappointment and broken dreams. This is not spicy chirashi with vegetables. This was a very bad $24 seafood salad. The above description does not fully describe how horrible this was. If only my phone wasn't dead I'd have taken a photo, as that would at least give you a visual representation of this culinary disaster. Summing up, if all you want is a martini, average maki, and/or broccoli and asparagus to snack on, you could come here in a moment of sheer desperation when you're stuck and starving in Hoffman Estates. Otherwise prepare for a $90+ letdown (including the tip--none of this was the fault of the poor guy slinging this garbage). read more

This place confuses me. It' looks kind of upscale, but the people don't necessarily. It has a very modern decor with plain white walls. The most interesting piece of decor was the lights and the pretty comfy chairs. My experience was OK. Nothing over the top, but nothing bad. It was so loud we could barely carry on a conversation. The sushi was good, but not the best I'd ever had. The presentation was nice and it was pretty cool to watch the sushi chefs do their thing. Service was a bit on the slow side, but it was a Friday night and our server was running around like crazy. All things considered, she did a pretty good job. If I were basing this review solely on decor they would get 4 stars. Sleek & modern & gorgeous inside. Their homey strip-mall location does not do them justice in this regard. Because of their location I was expecting more of a casual sushi-joint, which is what we wanted, but I won't hold that against them. However, service & food trump decor in my book, and that's what the 2 stars is based on. As mentioned in other reviews, there isn't really much of a description, or no description at all, on their various offerings on the menu. Maybe a sushi pro remembers what is in a Dragon Roll, but I do not. The menu also does not list how many pieces any of the rolls are so we weren't sure how much food to pick out for 3 of us. Some rolls came with 5 pieces and others arrived with more. We came on a Friday night and business was steady, but they were by no means crazy busy. You would think they were, however, based on the 2 servers rushing around & being inattentive and the fact they only had 2 people working the sushi bar so food took entirely too long to come out. We ordered Shrimp Tempura to start (it was entirely too greasy & not great compared to what we've had at other sushi places), a Dragon Roll, the Bistro Wasabi Special roll, and the Philly. We thought we might order more but the 3 of us decided to wait and see. And we certainly waited...for even just the Shrimp Tempura to come out. At one point our server came over to say that things had died down now & our order was up next so it shouldn't be too much longer (it was...and we still hadn't even received our Shrimp Tempura). She said if we did want to order something else hot it would come out quickly. Um...yeah, we ordered Shrimp Tempura ages ago & it's still not here so I don't think so. The Dragon Roll & the Kamikaze Roll (which we ordered later as we wanted more food) were the only ones that were a manageable size to put in your mouth whole. The Philly roll and especially the Bistro Wasabi Special roll were HUGE (just 5 pieces each but very big around). Even for the guys those rolls were uncomfortably large to try and put it all in your mouth at once. And, if you've ever had sushi, it's generally not a good idea to try and eat a slice of a roll in 2 bites because it's going to fall apart. The rolls were all just "okay"...nothing spectacular. The hot rolls actually seemed overcooked. So, it wasn't terrible, but we wouldn't bother to go back. read more

The drinks are very good. If you're going somewhere for just martinis, this is your place. Otherwise, head on down the street to another strip mall and take your chances. Can we make that a 3.5? It's really nice inside. Clean. Modern. The duct taped toilet seat in the men's room may have taken a little something away from the atmosphere (BTW check out the washroom, totally metallic-ly interesting). We were there early, I think, because there were not many customers inside. When we were leaving they were putting out tea light candles on the tables, maybe it gets busy later. The service was a 3 or so. There was a list of drink specials on the table with no descriptions. I asked the server what a "Firefly" was. She did not know. I then heard her ask someone else (maybe the bartender?) and she didn't know either! Ha! The server came back to explain it was a grapefruity type cocktail. So, I went with a Mai Tai - now I know there are many different versions of this drink but I was still expecting something traditional. What I got was a fruity orange tasting drink with no detectable dark rum, but I can't knock them for that because there was no description of the Mai Tai. Other than that, the server was attentive, polite, and prompt. Four of us went and we all order two different rolls to share. The menu again may have been lacking a bit in terms of descriptions, but every roll we ordered we finished. There were a few that were just ok and a few that there were great! The Baja (or Cancun, I forgot, it had pico de gallo) is worth trying and the Bistro Wasabi is a must! And this is where the high marks are given. Good sushi! If I were in the area I'd go again! One of my favorite sushi spots and I'm so lucky its very close to our home! I used to loathe sushi before I came to bistro wasabi. This was partly due to my impression coming only from "happy hour" sushi at kona grill (gag). What, it's not normal to feel like you need to hurl after you finish a couple rolls? The fish here has always been very fresh, no complaints whatsoever! I never thought I would be one to indulge in raw fish but the salmon nigiri is so delicious, i admit I am now a fan! The seared ahi tuna is also a wonderful appetizer - definetly recommended. Servers are polite and helpful. We have come here multiple times and never have had any issues. So treat yourself to a fancy meal and a French martini. You'll be glad you did! read more

The service was just a bit slow, but other than that... WOW!!! Since we waited a bit for our server to tend to us, the owner brought us a complimentary order of ceviche served with homemade chips. It was like a lovely guacamole with shrimp. Perfect start. Calamari tempura was AMAZING for an appetizer. I think I will be craving that for a while. House salad with a beautiful light ginger dressing served on the side of fresh greens and long slices of cucumber. Sushi that I had: Saporo maki which was crab & shrimp. Very fresh. sounds simple, but it was very tasty. Phili maki: TWO pieces of smoked salmon, cream cheese & avocado. very fresh and only $7 Calamari tempura maki: large piece of calamari, roe, avocado, eel sauce drizzled over. SO fresh. only $7. Could have easily been a $10 roll. Great wine selection, martinis (although I don't like them) were interesting. Nice sake selection served in small carafe with glass ice ball floating in it to keep it cold. EVERYTHING we ordered tasted delicious and presentation was perfect. The only downfall is the prices, we had a couple large beers each with our food and left satisfied (not stuffed) for about $60.00+ a person, including tip..
