We had the best experience here tonight with our server Kai: he was fantastic! Our server was very informed of what was and was not gluten free. I had the "SUSHI & SASHIMI", which is 6 pcs sushi, 6 pcs sashimi & california or spicy tuna roll. This comes with a soup or salad; both not GF, but they made dressing for my salad which was really nice. The spicy roll is not gluten free, because of the spicy sauce, however they made me a GF California roll. They completely accommodated my needs and I really appreciate that. My plate was $35, but I think that is completely reasonable for sushi-grade fish. My husband absolutely loved his ramen too (not GF). The restaurant ambience itself was very calm despite them being very busy (a lot of take out orders). So glad we tried this place on the whim! read more

We've ordered take out a few times in the past month and also dined in for lunch and dinner, since discovering Sushi Kushi a few months ago. We try out most ramen/Japanese restaurants we come across. We read some good reviews and decided to try it out. So glad we did. The restaurant is just the right size. There's the sushi counter when you walk in and about 10-15 tables/booths. The service has been good on every visit so far, food comes out pretty fast, good quality food that tastes great. Within our family, we're typically ordering a ramen, some sushi, chicken teriyaki, katsu or ginger steak. So far everything we've tried has been good, stands up to some of our favorite Japanese restaurants. I'd recommend giving Sushi Kushi a try! read more

Don't love it, don't hate it. It is what it is. We didn't dine in here, just picked up some rolls and soups to go. As far as the quality of food, it was good... probably 4 stars, but it's hard to assess, since we were eating it out of styrofoam containers. The service was average, nothing too friendly, but nothing too rude either... just sort of meh. Though I can't speak much to the ambience, since we didn't eat inside, I will say that it seemed like a comfortable space with room to breathe and a calm environment without a lot of noise. I hate to give 3 stars, but nothing stood out that screams, "I need to come back here," but I also don't want to mislead anyone and say it was terrible either. If we can make it back here (we live about 45min away) and dine in instead of out, I think there could be a chance I would upgrade it to 4 stars. Take a visit and see for yourself! read more

Although the sushi was fresh.....I really wish the hand roll did not just have 2 large pieces of fish in it and instead I wish the fish was chopped up small or even muddled together with the scallions. The flavor would have been so much better than just two big chunks of fish in the hand roll. Other than that we did enjoy the sushi and it was fresh. We will definitely try this place again but be specific about how we want the hand roll. read more

I finally discovered this cosy restaurant which was on my list quite awhile. Everything we tried today was excellent. Miso soup and boiled edamame were just as good as expected. The highlight of my dinner was a sashimi plate! The quality of the medium fatty blue fin tuna and lean blue fin tuna was outstanding. Sake toro and escolar sashimi were mouthwatering. The charred flavor of my husband's squid and mushrooms was delightful. His skewers of chicken and beef were well prepared. His sushi selection of octopus, squid, egg and smoked salmon was fresh and well presented. We were really impressed by the very generous portions and the very fair pricing of the outstanding quality fish compared to the other Japanese restaurants. Holy shiitake! Has it really been this long since I've had great sushi? I got there right when they opened so dinner was out quick! Sashimi was fresh and literally melted in my mouth. It's hard to get fresh fish like this all the way out here, in a strip mall.... In LZ. My son ordered the salmon bento and he couldn't even finish a fraction of it because the servings were so generous. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and the place started to fill up 40 minutes into dinner. They open at 5. I am excited to try the lunch special next time. You know me, I love a great deal! Worst sushi I have ever had...it has really gone downhill...just an fyi!!! Tried several times and just keeps getting worse:( Don't order the golden shrimp...they slopped a fried egg on 7 itty bitty shrimps/barely visable to the eye and the kimmy roll was so soaked with water it was disgusting. I really don't understand why people like this place. The fish quality is good, and the rice is seasoned properly, but that is where the positives end in my opinion. Price is very high for the portion sizes, signature maki is nothing special, and small for the price. Basic maki, such as California roll, or spicy tuna roll, is very expensive for a small portion. Even without nigiri, it would be hard to feed 4 adults just maki for under $150. There are too many superior options for this to be your first choice. read more

Nine years later, Sushi Kushi 4 U is still our favorite. They are so kind and the food is top notch. The ownership and staff goes above and beyond to make sure things are done right - from communicating their hours to packaging the food so it doesn't tip or spill to doing special little touches for kids. We wanted to try a new sushi place so we headed out Saturday night. The only downside is when they are busy, it can take forever to even get water. They need another server. The food is outstanding. We had a variety of sashimi and sushi. Some of the freshest we've tried in the north suburbs. I love backtrack and it was fresh, not oily, really good. We also had their ramen. Great selection of sushi and sashimi. I love their spicy tuna rolls they make them with some scallion giving them an interesting and delicious taste. Also their sushi which are small kebabs are really good. I recommend the beef and shrimp though the grilled onion and shiitake are good too. Nice and clean restaurant. Service and food is good. Very disappointed me and my 3 kids come in here all the time. Never had this problem with any other server at this location usually all is great here. We had the brown/blonde hair younger male server who was very rude and the last time we were in there our miso soups came less than half full. Didn't think anything about it until we came in again and the same server only filled them less than half. Definitely will not be returning and such a shame because the food is excellent. read more

We had a wonderful Sushi Dinner with delicious appetizers, lovely Sake, and a light dessert. This place offers a wonderful variety of sushi for the experienced palate to the veggie sushi lover. They have wonderful entrees of light crispy traditional tempura, teriyaki, and sukiyaki. We love their gyoza and Spinach Gomai for our appetizers with Delicious filling and perfect sesame sauce on the spinach. For dessert, their mochi ice cream is the perfect finale. Went to Shushi Kushi after having a friend recommend it. Overall the experience was fine. We got there at a reasonable time where it wasn't busy but by the time we left quite a few people were standing. Appeared they may need an extra hand or two there. We got sushi, ramen and noodles. The waitress warned us the sushi was backed up which isn't unheard of but she was able to grant our request of bringing the sushi out before the entrees. Sushi was definitely the best thing I had there as the ramen was a bit bland and didn't love the noodles. Just wish the fish rolls were rolled a bit better but I know they were busy and backed up so it is understandable. Overall a place worth trying as many like it. Just wasn't for me. read more

Finally got to dine in. Went around 530 on a Saturday and it was fairly empty inside. It filled up a bit more when we were leaving around 645. The food was really good. We had the sushi and sashimi platter which came with 6 pieces or sushi, 6 pieces of sashimi and 1 California roll. At $36, it's a bit pricy for what you get, but the sashimi was the best in the area by far. It also came with soup and salad. Both were good, but salad was a bit watery. Service was very slow. Once our server left, it was at least 20 min before seeing them again. Order right away and plan ahead for a long wait. The inside looked clean and was inviting. They have booths, tables and bench seating. I recommend trying them out. Also, I see they just launched online ordering which is great to see and should help their business. read more

While sushi is in the name, every time we've come here, we've taken advantage of their amazing ramen. This is actually the first 'real, authentic' ramen that I ever had, and it absolutely ruined me for instant ramen. I've had a couple of different bowls, but I do love the Tonkotsu. I would honestly eat there far more often that I do, but I'm usually in the mood for ramen way more than any of my friends.
