Oh, Hoffman Estates, why are you so far away? The decor is modern and chic. Like Kevin L. said the menu is lacking descriptions so it seems a little ... mysterious? The service was awkward but they were trying! I really enjoyed our sushi rolls. Try the one with pico de gallo! Sounds so weird but I promise it's good. I have been coming here for over 5 years. The food is excellent! I have eaten at sushi restaurants all over the U.S. and I'm hard pressed to find better. Consistently excellent. The service is friendly and the ambiance is just plain cool. I would like to address a review on here that criticized Bianca. She has been there since I started visiting the restaurant and I will tell you that she is one of the best servers I've ever had and I consistently see other patrons give her high accolades. We had small children and when they came to eat with me and my wife at a restaurant we made sure they we're well behaved. We were cognizant of other patrons around us. I have seen many children at Bistro Wasabi, some of which hug the servers as the arrive or leave. Bianca is a rock star! read more

As soon as you walk in, you can tell this is a modern place. Music is playing and the decor is very white and sleek. We were promptly seated by a very nice and attentive waitress. I did notice it was quite loud from all the people, but it's a Friday night so it's to be expected. We started out with a seafood ceviche and fried tortilla chips. The ceviche was delicious and had avacado, octopus, corn, tomato, and raw fish diced and placed on a plate with lime juice. With the crispy and not-too-salty chips, it was delicious. The ceviche is very fresh and the chips add earthiness as well as good crunch. The mix of a fresh acidic ceviche with warm, salty chips was great. Defintiely getting that again. My father had a platter of sashimi (forget the exact name) for $30. You get about hte same number of cuts as you would at most any other restaurants. But two things stood out. First was the quality of the fish. The fish is the freshest I ahve had at any restaurant. Tasting it, you can taste the subtle flavors of each fish with a very clean taste. At other restaurants, the fish can taste less fresh and it destracts from the flavor. The second point is that the cuts are nice and thick. the chefs are not trying to steal money with this sashimi. This ended up being a very filling meal, something that does not occur at times with sashimi platters. We also had the $23 Maki Karai plate. It has spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and Sapporo rolls. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon are unique in that the fish is not chopped completely like most places. Thus, as you eat these rolls, you can taste the flavor of the fish as opposed to the flavor being masked in other restaurants. The spicy flavor is a cleaner spicy as it's not from a cremay sauce or anything. The other roll was a mix of crab meat and shrimp (I think). It was good, but hte spicy slamon and tuna were the clear standouts. Bistro Wasabi is pricy but it's worth it as the quality of the food is fantastic. read more

I have to give it to Bistro Wasabi for trying to make amends with patrons who may not have had the best first impression of the restaurant. Jeff wrote me asking if I'd give BW another shot. I figured there wasn't much to lose and should give them one more shot. Finding a more upscale, yet delicious, sushi-centric restaurant nearby would be a great thing. Not realizing they had a reservation ready for us and a fully seated dining area ahead of us, we took a chance sitting at the bar for our 2nd BW experience. We chose to not say that we were the less-than-pleased Yelpers until after food came out. I'm really glad we didn't. Aside from the incredibly loud volume of the restaurant, everything was leaps and bounds better than our first experience. I never thought about pico de gallo in my rolls and I have to say it's delicious. I can now, proudly, recommend the Cancun Roll. So good and very refreshing for summer. I also didn't know Bistro Wasabi offers 125 varieties of vodka (yum). Divine and Belvedere Intense are where it's at. After our meal ended, we had a chance to meet one of the primary owners, Jeff. Great guy and good conversation. He's aware of some of the restaurants faults and is working to remedy them to change 2 and 3 star reviews to 4 and 5 star reviews. Had Bistro Wasabi not reached out to us we probably wouldn't have gone back. The second shot was worth the trip and the experience. Everything tasted great. The bartender, Andrea, was hilarious and incredibly knowledgeable. There's a reason she has hordes of regulars. All in all - they deserve to move from a 2 star review up to a 4 star review. Even on another busy weekend night, the service was timed well, the drinks were delicious. To get that last, elusive, 5th star - they'll need to implement their efforts to reduce the blaring volume and continue to refine who they are. If I'm going to pay $7-12 a sushi roll, it better be top notch. And it could sound silly, but they need dessert and to offer after-dinner options. Sometimes I like to sugar up before I head out. I'd give a thumbs up to visit and give Bistro Wasabi. A lot of the "usual" items but they'll surprise you, at times, with some creativity. I wouldn't before but I'll go back now. read more

The sushi is great, especially the spicy tuna, spicy salmon, cancun, and maki karai. Anything with spicy tuna is actually amazing. It's a small little place, and sometimes, the music and noise levels can be loud, but overall, the food quality is amazing considering that it is in the middle of Hoffman Estates. Clean, modern decor and a nice twist on several sushi favorites. Followed previous reviewers' advice and got the Baja roll with spicy tuna and pico de gallo. The spicy chirashi was a little confusing at first -- looked more like a huge salad with sushi on top than the traditional compact bowl -- but it was delicious. My colleague had the peppercorn ahi tuna entree, which was also outstanding. Ended the meal with the Godzilla roll, which was nearly as good to look at as it was to eat. read more

LOVE this place! I've been here dozens of times and have never had bad service or a bad meal! Ive tried pretty much everything on the menu and the only thing i don't care for is the cheek??? (but it's a personal preference) Try the Crab Rangoon roll (its not on the menu but order it anyway) ----OMG you'll love it! The service is always great, efficient, the drinks are strong, well priced, the sushi chefs are amazing to watch & the food is the crown! Sashimi, rolls, salad, entrees, you can't go wrong! great for a first date! Very clean! 2 things that are a lil odd.... 1 = the bar stools have no back and that can be uncomfortable 2 = the toilets are some sort of steel or metal finish that shows every little smudge its a wierd thing to say but its a wierd thing to see as well. Went here for my birthday (valentines day) and had such a great time!! the food here is fresh as can be, fileted per roll to order. we sat at the sushi bar because I love watching them roll sushi everything that we ordered was delish! This is a great sushi option if you are in the suburbs. The sushi is fresh and the rolls are different from ones you see at other sushi restaurants. Also, the sushi chefs usually make rolls that are not listed on the menu so be sure to ask if there are any specials. I know that they will often make a scallop roll yum! Also, the martinis are really good, especially the saketini. The seared tuna appetizer is amazing and it is topped with a small seaweed salad (my favorite). It is a little on the expensive side ($16 dollars for an appetizer) but it is pretty big - I sometimes get it as my entree. The food really is great here. My only complaints are that the sushi takes awhile to come out and it is a little on the expensive side. Other than that, the food deserves 5 stars! read more

If you want excellent sushi at a decent price, you've arrived. Also, LOVE the swanky metro feel. Martinis are excellent. Don't be afraid to try their specials- that's where you'll find their best sushi. Not for an inexperienced sushi diner, as the menu is written more for someone well-versed in sushi dining. However, great for a first-time sushi dining experience if you're joining someone who can walk you through the menu. Heard about this place before and finally went there with my family. I want to to share on couple things that we experienced duri g our visit. First atmosphere was very warm and cozy also modernized. Second drink choices and well made cocktails. My wife ordered apple martini and I ordered long island iced tea. My wife was very satisfied with her drink and I was very happy too. I have been to lots of bars and haven't found perfect long island iced tea yet. Either too strong or too sweet. But this guys nailed it. I highly recommend their cocktails. Third is quality of foods. I'm a big fan of Tuna!! Their tuna is very fresh and well prepped... also I highly recommend orders today's special.. you will be surprised how good foods are!! It's Friday night & I want sushi! I had this place bookmarked for awhile & finally had a chance to try it. Aside from the location being hard to find on my iPhone, everything was great. Although on the smaller size and the fact that they were busy, we were seated quickly at the sushi bar. We shared 4 rolls between us, their special, the one with pico de galo, salmon, and a really amazing one I can't remember. All were great and tasted very fresh. Only peeve was that they didn't have a large variety of rolls to choose from & did not have descriptions. But it was a great dinner that ended up costing $20 a person. read more

Disclaimer: I am not a huge sushi fan. It can be good, but it never leaves me feeling satisfied. I like my red meat and good old american fried food. That being said, this place was fantastic! I ordered the Sapporo roll (spicy crab and shrimp), crab cake and teriyaki sampler. The crab cake was wonderful, teriyaki chicken, beef and shrimp were exactly what teriyaki should be, and the sushi was perfect in every way - the texture, balance of flavors, presentation. This isn't Japanese owned nor operated. Sushi, sashimi, and kitchen cooked items are just OK. Fusion is the theme here. However, the sushi and sashimi aren't cut and prepared representative of a true Japanese sushi chef. If you're in the suburbs and seek authentic Japanese cuisine, try Daruma, Izakaya Sankyu and Sakura. This is where the Japanese go to dine. read more

We have been going here for over a year, perhaps a dozen visits. We can only give Bistro Wasabi two stars. While the food is good, the place is expensive, there are equally as good sushi restaurants within 10 minutes at half the price. The atmosphere is very nice, and the bartenders tend to be pleasant. That being said, for the money they charge, we expect great service and a good attitude from all of the staff. This is where they fall down. The servers don't really make you feel welcome and sometimes leave you hanging and waiting. The host staff is rarely pleasant, warm or welcoming. We have gone here because we live close by. This past Wednesday was the last straw and we won't be going back. We made a reservation for 8:15, but our out of town guest arrived late and we weren't able to get to the restaurant until close to 9:00. When we walked in, the place was empty and the staff was cleaning up. The hostess immediately turned to us and stated that the restaurant was closed. We said "we are really sorry to be late, but their website said they were open and serving until 9:30." She said "Oh, well we decided to close early." No, I'm sorry or any kind of apology at all. Just kind of a tough luck attitude. I understand that if the place is slow, the desire to cleanup and go home. But they should warn people on their website. AND they should be caring and apologetic to customers who arrive late. I own a decent size business and I know that customer service can make or break a business. Unfortunately, Bistro Wasabi frankly doesn't understand that. So, we won't be spending any more money here, unless something changes. read more

I felt violated. I travel extensively and try sushi restaurants all over the USA. This is probably the most overpriced sushi I have ever experienced. Sashimi is sold by the piece: salmon $3, yellowtail $3, mackerel $3, etc. The pieces are very small, especially for the price. The selection was pedestrian, with nothing but the basics. You can do better. I have eaten many times at Sakura in Mt. Prospect, and it is a MUCH better choice. The decor is not as nice but the fish and the prices are better. read more

We went here last night and I was pleasantly surprised. The place was in an unassuming strip mall (like most everything in suburbia) but when you walk in it is so clean, modern, slick and really sophisticated - one might think you are in the city. Admittedly I only had 2 dishes here but I WILL venture back to try more things. I had Jay's special salad which was a bits of sashimi on a bed of lovely dark leafy greens a nice dressing (I think it was soy ginger based - not citrusy) and this gigantic maki roll with a mix of different sushi; salmon, eel, tuna, etc. They also had a good liquor selection too, lots of high end vodka which is my preference. The place had a young vibe to it but it remained comfortable. When I go back I will report on more yummy dishes I intend on indulging in. Worth the trek. read more

Bistro Wasabi is solid sushi at decent price. There is more than just sushi and the beef wrapped asparagus appetizer was very good. Crunchy and flavorful. The service was a bit slow and we were seated for about 10 minutes before the server came by. There were empty tables and did not seem to be busy enough to warrant the rate. OMG, the calamari appetizer is fantastic. Theses are not your conventional deep fried hoops and bodies here... the calamari here must come from a gigantic squid cause the strips are huge! They are literally served as thick strips arranged in a log cabin configuration. The really meaty strips are lightly battered and covered is a tasty sweet teriyaki sauce that is amazing. The rolls and nigiri are decent, but this place is getting five stars from me based on the calamari. Amazing.... read more

This is one of my favorite sushi places but the up and down reviews don't surprise me. The sushi is excellent although there are maybe only 10-15 choices for rolls. I recommend the calamari tempura and the spider. The prices are reasonable because each roll is humongous. It's actually a little embarrassing trying to stuff one in my mouth sometimes... and trying to bite them in half is always a disaster... Anyway, the drinks are awesome, I don't think I'm a lightweight but I usually have to limit myself to one if I'm driving. They're definitely not watered down but they aren't overpowering either. Personally I find it incredibly difficult to find a good stiff drink that doesn't taste like pure ethanol. The decor is a little bit obnoxious and the acoustics are terrible. Fortunately the past few times I've been there it hasn't been as crowded so I didn't have to lipread to have a conversation with my friends. But when it is crowded just forget it. I think a little padding on the walls might help... I'm not quite as bothered by the "cold' feel because I really don't care if they're trying to be upscale - it's in a strip mall in the suburbs so I'm going to walk in in shorts and flip-flops if I dang well please. And finally for the service... It seems like it's improving, but yes, it is terribly slow. Look over the menu as fast as you can and try to have your order ready before your waitress comes back so you don't starve to death before your food arrives. Overall this is a great choice if it's not your first time in a sushi restaurant and you want to have a slow - but delicious - dinner. read more

This is my favorite sushi spot in the NW Suburbs. They have the best, freshest sushi and a great, friendly wait staff. And the martinis are amazing; a perfect pour each time! Not at all delicious sushi. Horrid, actually and incredibly overpriced. I've gone several times to see if maybe I've just caught them on a bad night, and the experience is always the same. It tries so hard to be modern and cool, almost too hard, that the staff has an air of snobbery about them. I ordered three rolls and the bill was more than $50. I didn't even order the specialty rolls or a drink! The bar is always packed, so maybe they have great drinks, but I didn't even bother. My husband and I have been wanting to try out Bistro Wasabi for quite awhile and visited on a Friday evening. I was surprised how many open tables were available on such a popular night. The service was so-so; the waitress was very friendly but food and drink was slow to arrive at our table. I ordered a martini, which was quite good, and my husband ordered a beer. We decided so split three sushi orders between us. They lost our order ticket, but quickly remedied their mistake when they realized what happened. The sushi was tasty, but certainly not out-of-the-ballpark amazing. One thing it definitely has going for them are reasonable prices. The decor was modern. Rather contemporary with a lot of white but it was passable. My biggest complaint is the modern, techno music that they play entirely too loud. It definitely took away from the ambiance. read more

My wife and I really love this place. We live close by, so it makes it even better. The seared tuna appetizer has to be the best around - and believe me, we have tried it at every sushi restaurant and no one comes close to Bistro Wasabi. The rolls are delicious and the martinis are original. The ambience is great - the austere white decorating makes the place feel hip, especially for a suburban restaurant. A little pricy for sure, but overall worth it. I would have given it 5 stars but we have noticed that the service has slipped over the years. I would like to see them improve that so I can give them the extra star. read more

Bistro is a nice modern and classy Asian restaurant serving very good sushi dishes. I really like their take on the tempura calamari which are more thicker stalk like version than the calamari I'm used to. Their raspberry spicy shrimp is a great tasting appetizer. Their Maki are delicious but I've yet to try their sashimi to do a full review. Unfortunately their menu selection is not that large and the portion size follows the same path so it feels a bit overpriced however well made, and it is, everything is. Still the good quality and how close it is to me make this a go to sushi place! read more
