I've been to Oishi Sushi several times with friends, and it's my favorite sushi restaurant in the area. We always go for the all-you-can-eat (AYCE) sushi option. While dinner is a bit pricey at $28.99, it's definitely worth it if you plan on ordering more than a couple of rolls and an appetizer. The service has always been excellent. The staff is friendly and attentive, the food comes out quickly, and the restaurant is consistently clean. One small detail I appreciate is that the water tastes great, which might sound strange, but I've noticed that some Asian restaurants have water with an off taste. I'm not very picky when it comes to sushi rolls, but some of my favorites here are the Spicy Salmon Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Fire Dragon Roll, and Pretty Girl Roll. I clearly have a weakness for spicy rolls and anything with jalapeños! Generally, the ingredients always taste fresh, and the rolls are well-balanced with the perfect ratio of rice to fillings. I've also tried the gyoza, the cream cheese rangoons, and the fried scallops. All were delicious, although I personally prefer rangoons that include crab. I also wish both the gyoza and rangoons had a bit more filling inside. The scallops are AMAZING, though, and easily my favorite appetizer I've tried here. One my favorite and one of my go to all you can eat spots in the Chicago suburbs. I think it's around $30 per person here for dinner, but definitely worth it, they have tons of options for rolls, basic or signature rolls, tons of apps as well, the menu is why I come back as it has everything you need in a all you can eat place, sushi also comes out very fast. I love the miso soup, house salad (the ginger dressing is so yummy), the calamari (is crispy and not chewy at all) Crab Rangoon and fried scallops! We place a large initial order because they make you wait quite a while between orders. The first order you receive rather quickly. I ask for spicy mayo and Sriracha because I love dipping the spicy tuna roll in it! The prices are a little high but worth it if your hungry! Oh me oh my, Oishi Sushi is one of the best AYCE sushi places I've been to! I've been to several and what puts this place over others is their selection and service. I'll explain. Oishi Sushi is located in a strip mall on Weatherfield Way and Barrington Rd in Schaumburg. The restaurant is medium-sized, with the sushi making chefs having their own designated area. We rolled in 10 deep and got all our orders pretty quickly. As of July 2019, AYCE is $21.95 and I definitely took advantage. I ordered a few rolls: Chicago Bears roll -- shrimp tempura and craw fish; topped with avocado, red tobiko, and eel sauce Red dragon roll -- Really good. Shrimp tempura and cucumber; topped with avocado, tuna, spicy mayo, and red tobiko Nigiri I ordered included: Unagi Salmon Super white tuna -- super delicious. Each piece had a nice little drop of oyster sauce as a finishing topping. Masago -- fresh little eggs wrapped in a seaweed strip Tamago -- sweet egg. Nice portion on top of a hefty group of rice Yellowtail -- its the little details, but I like how they top em off with a small green onion garnish on top of each of their pieces What set this place apart from most AYCE places I've been to, is the consistency and patience of the server to explain and point out the rolls/pieces that is on the plate. The places I've been to just gives out the dish and walk away, or are not consistent about letting you know which pieces are which. It's that level of detail that I like. We had all you can eat in which we ordered miso soup which was okay, appetizers Crab Rangoon which was a little disappointing given there was not much filling, Gyoza was good and Chicken Yaki which was good too. The reason I keep coming back is because of their lunch special: 3 maki, 2 pieces of sushi, and an appetizer for under $40, even with delivery and tip. Dynamite maki: Do your friends make fun of you for ordering a "basic and boring" California roll? Look no further than Dynamite! It's a baked California roll with spicy mayo, topped with spicy salmon and eel sauce. This is my new favorite maki, and there's nothing boring about it! Red dragon maki: Shrimp tempura and cucumber, topped with avocado, tuna, spicy mayo, and red tobiko. This was my favorite before I tried Dynamite, but it's still a good maki! I'll continue ordering it in the future. Spicy salmon maki: spicy mayo, salmon, masago, and tempura flakes. This one is okay, nothing exciting about it. On a scale of 1-5 I'd give this roll a 2.5. Fresh salmon sushi and super white tuna sushi: yes I put them together because I don't have too much to say on them besides the fact that they're really good. Seaweed salad: cucumber, lightly seasoned seaweed, and sunomono sauce. Seaweed salad tasted the same at every sushi restaurant I've been to, but I keep ordering it because of how much I love it. Hard to describe it for those who've never tried it, but it's delicious. I've only ordered through Uber Eats and have never been inside the actual restaurant due to Covid, just keep that in mind. This time, she was in disgust. She actually had to put half her rolls into a napkin for trash. She was still hungry so she ordered a house salad. Worst dressing she's ever tasted. After visiting Oishi Sushi in Libertyville earlier in the year, I was excited to try this location close to where many of my friends live in Schaumburg. The AYCE menu looked good, with a slightly different selection of items (including scallops) than I'm used to seeing. The rolls also contain slightly different ingredients such as chili oil, fresh jalapenos, lime juice and other ingredients that are uncommon in all you can eat options. This is all at $20.99 for dinner, which is probably the lowest you'll find in the Schaumburg area. The restaurant is also fairly spacious, with a nicely decorated dining room and fairly good service. With all these positive characteristics, I was surprised that the food really disappointed in terms of flavor and textures. The Japanese fried chicken had tender chicken but the batter was not crisp at all and the sauce was so light in flavor, it barely contributed to the dish. The calamari tempura was tender but once again the batter was hardly crisp/crunchy at all. The scallop tempura was crisp, but the scallop was small and lacked flavor while the batter seemed similar to a chicken nugget batter. The sea bass and salmon sushi I tried both looked good, but lacked a bounciness to the meat and didn't have the best flavor. The rolls I tried all looked great, but lacked distinctive elements and clear textures (particularly in the soft shrimp tempura) to make them really stand out in my mind. For the most part, many felt like variations of a California roll, sometimes with shrimp, with either a sweet or spicy mayo or sauce. Visually, it's not difficult to distinguish the rolls, but in a blind tasting I might have trouble telling them apart. Though I tried a variety of rolls, I can't say that any one was particularly memorable enough to really point out. A lot of this was really due to fairly indistinct flavors from the combination of ingredients. The different fish slices lacked the strong distinct flavors evident in each fish type, and varied textures (all were just soft, no real variation in bounce or firmness). The add-ons were mostly just soft, rather than having the characteristic crispy sesame seeds, crunchy cucumber, gritty roe, crispy shrimp tempura, creamy avocado, sticky eel sauce, and other common textures. These all lacked distinguishing flavors as well -- even though the rolls did not contain a particularly excessive amount of sauce. For the price, this is not a bad place to go. In terms of decor, service, and food presentation -- this would also be a fine choice. But, the food is forgettable and not as good as AYCE options nearby for only a few more dollars. read more

I'm stuck between giving this place a 2 star and a 3 star so I will give an overall rating of 2.5 off the record. We visited on a Saturday night and had the AYCE (all you can eat) option for $20.99 pp. At this price however, I would expect for them to have more options and for the sushi to be good but like some of the other reviews here, we share similar feelings about the taste of their sushi. It was the first time we went to a sushi buffet where we didn't feel like having more sushi and not because we were full but because it just didn't meet our taste buds. The fish did not taste fresh, and a lot of the rolls tasted generic, bland and had very little flavor. My husband is all about AYCE and it's enough to say we barely got past our first rounds of sushi. The quality and the flavor was just not there and so we weren't even excited to re-order for a second round and when we did, it was more like to just do it so we would feel like we had gotten some of our money's worth. The pros was that they were not too busy so you can get a seat quick, average customer service and the presentation was nice-- as all of the sushi we ordered were served in a large wooden boat. Unfortunately, I think the visual appeal of the sushi in the boat was the most appealing part of our entire visit. Every time you reorder sushi it will be a bit but it is worth the wait if you are not in a hurry --Appetizers-- Agedashi tofu - Good - fried tofu - creamy rich tofu in a light tempura batter Calamari - OK - crispy bread crumb batter, the calamari was fairly strong tasting, the sauce cuts the fishiness of the Calamari. It could be softer on the batter and the Calamari itself is a bit thick so a bit chewy Japanese fried chicken Ok - very light batter, not crispy enough but nice honey sauce. Chicken was ok. --Rolls-- Golden (Crab meat, salmon, eel, avocado, masago, deep fried and topped with sweet sesame sauce and chili sauce) OK - I don't taste nor see the sweet sesame sauce but the chili sauce looks like a Sriracha type sauce. If you eat it sauce side up, the spice level is gentle, if you eat it down, you will definitely notice it's spicy. Winter (Smoked salmon, eel, shrimp tempura, cream cheese, tamago, cucumber topped with crunchy bits, spicy mayo and eel sauce) Great - refreshing and snappy. This was one of my favorites Firecracker (Shrimp, eel, avocado, cream cheese, masago, spicy mayo, jalapeno and deep fried and topped with eel sauce) Good - Spicy but not super, nice crispness to the jalapeños. The jalapeño is very prevalent but not super spicy, this is a good thing Spicy scallop (with crunchies and masago) Good - Chopped scallops and gently spicy, a light and refreshing roll Summer (tuna, white tuna, cilantro, avocado, jalapeno, masago and spicy mayo topped with chili oil and lime juice) Great - The tuna is very fresh and refreshing in contrast to the chili oil which actually helps the tuna taste even better. Pick up the chili oil, it's the kind you get at good chinese restaurants Spider (soft shell crab tempura, avocado, cucumber, masago, mayo, and eel sauce) Great - soft shell crab is perfectly crisp you can definitely taste the crab, They do not skimp and the crab is perfectly cooked Sake avacado (salmon and avacado) Ok - creamy avocado with nice fresh salmon. This has a bit more rice than other rolls Unagi (Eel, cucumber and eel sauce) Meh - not as good as other places Chicken teriyaki roll (grilled chicken, cucumber, teriyaki sauce) Meh - a LOT of chicken, the chicken could use more flavor or there needs to be something besides the cucumber to give it more texture. It also needs more sauce --Nigiri-- Each piece had a great fresh fish taste Yellow tail Super white tuna Sea bass Overall - I'll be back!
