I visited the store to repair a Windows Surface Laptop (a highly expensive machine) that I used for roughly 2 years before it would not charge anymore. I did some research to try to remedy the issue myself. Many folks online experienced similar symptoms, but Microsoft refused to acknowledge the widespread issue. Of course, my machine was just a hair out of warranty as well, and I refused to pay Microsoft a dime to fix their problem. I had a wonderful experience here. I had multiple issues (two broken beats headphones, cracked iPhone with a missing home button and my other iPhone needed a replacement screen protector) when I discussed the headphone issue with him over the phone; he sounded very knowledgeable and helpful. So I came in today, and so far, so good. The phone was repaired and he explained the parts needed, what I should expect and the cost was very fair. My other phone he changed the screen protector, I was pleased with this as well. The verdict is still out on both of the beats headphones, but he was upfront with what he thought may be the issue and what the cost would potentially be. What I found most impressive was the honesty--as the cost of the repair may be more than me simply purchasing a new pair, he didn't try to sugar coat or coax me into going through with the repair. His availability on weekends and being open to 7 are both handy for me getting my laptop back ASAP. He did notice an additional issue with my battery, but was honest that it was a repair I would be able to do on my own by getting a new battery myself. He spent the time to talk through what saw with the battery, even though he knew he wasn't going to get additional business from working on it. Lin was great! I sent a message around midnight thinking I would get a reply the next morning and in 10 minutes Lin had replied to my request (installing an additional SSD into my PC). His prices were the best out of the few places I called AND he formatted my new drive for me (something that someone else wanted to charge $40 in additional to the install). If I can give more than 5 stars as a rating, I would. I was searching through different tech shops and I found Bit Repair - Owner Lin. I left a message and he called me back. He was my first stop to check out regarding my new Lenovo Yogo C740 not powering on, it came to be that my new Lenovo was defective. However, we decided that we can just transfer the files out of the HDD into another laptop/computer/USB storage. I already had a feeling the laptop wouldn't open up because Lenovo apparently was known for having their laptops lose power. So we decided to just transfer my files. We did not know if the laptop hard drive was encrypted or not. So I dropped off the laptop and within 2 hours he called me to say the HDD was encrypted and we need a key. He stayed on the phone with me and guided me to my Microsoft account to recover the key and once I sent it to him - BOOM! Files became accessible. This is AFTER I was told by 2 managers in Best Buy/Geek Squad, that the HDD will be unreadable if the HDD is connected to another computer/laptop because of this encryption including Geek Squad offering their service to recover data for; i) $50 for simply shipping the laptop to them and ii) $600-$1200 for recovering the data out to their lab and iii) which would've been 6-8 weeks and this was not even guaranteed. SMFH. I went to meet Lin at his store as soon as we got off the phone, he let me navigate through my files on his computer, he let me use HIS own USB to transfer my files (3) times while I was there and he let me take my time so I can confirm the backup files were transferred. Things that could have happened and my experience: 1) Lin, could have easily up-charged me and said it would've been hundreds or even thousands of dollars to retrieve the data and play the Geek Squad game. 2) He could have charged me to buy a USB to use and transfer my files right then and there. 3) He could have charged me for further check on the dead and lifeless laptop that wouldn't power up and charge me for a new motherboard and new battery. He was so kind, humble and giving. He saved me school files but more importantly business files that valued much more than the cost he charged me to retrieve my files - $50. He offered OEM parts with warranty. I was thrilled, because I've went to other places and they would not match his quote and level of service. When I got to the store, he was already working on someone else device. He kindly said he'll call me when he assess my phone in half an hour. Since the store is in prime shopping area, I walked around awhile I waited for his call. He called back and said I didn't need to replace my screen, but will work on fixing my problem with a wiring issue. He was very honest and knowledgeable with his work. My two toddlers broke two iPads, one iPad mini 4 and one iPhone 6s screen (not in one day, :-P) . Apple Store gave a hefty quote that no one would ever fix hardware there. Randomly searched on yelp and I got to noticed Bit Repair, I live in Queens but still decided to try. I fixed iPhone screens before using Groupon/certain shops at midtown and had some unpleasant experience, some shops even replaced without notice to 3rd party parts, maybe the higher real estate rental to blame). BitRepair guy told me that two newer version iPads just need glass replacement, so both of them is quoted cheaper than iPad mini 4 screen (which needs LCD replacement due to default construction). All my devices were delivered like brand new next weekend with dirts carefully wiped clean by store owner. I am surprised how CHEAP the total cost is with authentic APPLE parts, less than other repair shops (no need to mention apple store quote, prob less than one third from Apple's ). 5 Star Quality service!!
