The painted ladies of Fells Point, last 4 wooden houses from early 1800s.

Excellent food tour, mixed in with some history of Fells Point, a pivotal part of the US victory during the War of 1812. I'm not sure if the tour always incorporates the same restaurants, but the 4 we visited were all delicious. We were met at a park In Fells Point by Zach, who gave us a rundown of the afternoon's activities and said our guide, Simone, would be meeting us at the first restaurant. Simone was outstanding, very knowledgeable and personable, great charisma. It's easy to tell she enjoys what she is doing, and anyone who gets her as their guide is very fortunate. First stop was Chilango, a Mexican restaurant/tequila bar. Street taco was excellent, and guacamole some of the best I've had. Drinks were also very good. Next was The Point, a popular place for seafood and pub fare, where we had the house rum punch and were served a sampler size crab cake and steamed vegetables. Crab cake was very good, but not the best Baltimore has to offer. Our next stop was to Broadway Market and Thai Street, one of the booths inside the market. Some chicken drunken noodles were very tasty, as well as a sample of one of their teas. Finally we ended up at Pitango Bakery where we were given a selection of pastries and a charcuterie selection. The pastries were very European style, sweet but not laden with sugar and icing like many American places. They have great coffee, too. The tour is highly recommended and a great way to spend an afternoon.

I just moved to Maryland from Brooklyn for work and wanted to explore Baltimore one weekend and learn about some of the history of the area, since I had never been there before. However, I quickly discovered that Baltimore does not have a lot of traditional walking tour options available. Which is how I discovered this tour. For someone like me, this tour was a bit on the expensive side. I set a certain amount in my budgeting for going out and exploring on the weekend each month. However, I figured that this was the best way to experience Baltimore history and there was also food, which was a plus. After going on this Fell's Point tour, I highly recommend it. For those who want to make a day of experiencing the city: I recommend seeing the aquarium as well (which was expensive and has no discounts, but very, very beautiful) and then heading over. You honestly only need an hour for the aquarium. I learned that Baltimore Harbor is very much not like NYC and it has very little shading. Also, the museums are scattered extremely far from each other. You will get sunburnt easily! Take sunscreen and apply often!!! The tour: The meet up spot was easy to find. For anyone else who has no clue what a "pagoda" is for the meet up point, it's like a gazebo. There was a mix-up the afternoon of our tour. The tour manager was able to quickly fix it, however. He actually gave us the tour himself. We visited 4 different spots with different ethnic food. He also showed us spots of historical significance in the area and gave us a great historical background of Fell's Point. I'm not going to spoil that here for you. It was very interesting and I learned a lot. A note before attending: I didn't eat lunch that day because another post had stated that the portions were large. Also, I couldn't find any place for a quick grab-and-go as I was exploring the city (I feel very uncomfortable eating alone in a restaurant as a single woman). Do not make this mistake!!! Eat lunch before you head out! The food: The food was very good. I ate and enjoyed everything. You meet at 3 PM. So, this is effectively an early dinner. 1st stop -- Mexican food. We had a beef taco that was not spicy with a small appetizer that tasted like lightly fried corn bread. It was very yummy! We got plenty of water to drink as well as chips and guacamole. 2nd stop -- Traditional Baltimore. We had a fresh fruit salad along with a crab cake and broccoli. The crab cake was clean and fresh. It was very good. I'm Sicilian-American; so, I eat a lot of fish. This was very good crab. We got bottles of water here as well as a choice of alcoholic beverage. 3rd stop -- Thai. We stopped at this small food hall next. We got a container with rice, some vegetables, and a mixture of chicken, beef, and one shrimp. I don't like shrimp, but luckily the taste of shrimp did not permeate throughout the dish. It was not spicy and it had a sweet-savory sauce. We also had Thai tea. Very tasty. 4th stop -- Dessert. At the last stop, we were allowed to order a coffee of our choice and we shared a dessert platter. I only like chocolate desserts and I was glad to see that there were chocolate chip cookies there. I ordered a Dirty Chai Tea. This place was ok. The best part of it was the drink. I definitely recommend this tour for your solo or group travels. Due to the lack of shading in the Baltimore Harbor area, I recommend visiting on a cloudy day or sometime not in the summer if possible so as to not get sunburned. It's a long tour but there's not a lot of walking involved for those who are worried.

Had a great time on the Fells Point tour with my parents, learned a lot and would gladly do it again despite the cold and rainy weather!

Graham is very knowledgeable and able to weave together many different strands of history as he takes you on a journey into Baltimore's past, present, and future. From the great railroad strike of 1877 to more recent instances of workers banding together to improve their lot and attempts by the powers that be to limit free speech, the "people's history" focus of the tour made it an early afternoon well spent. Howard Zinn would be proud! Plus, Graham knows all sorts of interesting and useful tidbits, e.g. the local NFL team's connection to Edgar Allan Poe and where to eat some of the city's best steamed crabs. This tour is definitely recommended if you want an introduction to the real Baltimore.

We've gone on two tours with Graham in Baltimore and thoroughly enjoyed them both. These events…read moreare sort of like walking tours with a performance art aspect (or vice versa). In the two tours we took, our group was led on a walk through neighborhoods around the city, with Graham pointing out often-overlooked features of the urban environment. The major focus is on the confusing and contradictory way the city encourages or discourages pedestrians from using public space, as well as pointing out some of the spontaneous and creative ways people end up using public areas in manners that weren't necessarily intended. It's sort of like a guided walking history tour, except the focus is shifted away from the usual landmarks and historical events and instead toward more mundane things such as traffic bollards, median strips, weird easements, abandoned or dysfunctional infrastructure, etc. (This is much more fun than it probably sounds--his enthusiasm for these topics is quite contagious.) Graham injects a lot of humor into his descriptions and interpretations of these features, and at several points he encourages participants to interact with them in creative ways as "radical pedestrians". It's clear he does a lot of research about the areas involved in the tours, giving background and history where relevant. He is also full of insights about the design of features meant for people on the street and how things can go wrong--unintended consequences, conflict in sharing space with cars, issues when the intended use is ambiguous or confusing, etc. I would recommend these tours for anyone with an interest in urban planning, activism, or performance art--or just a desire to see some of the everyday things we take for granted in a new light. On a personal note, one of the tours we went on happened to be the day of the first major Freddie Gray protest in Baltimore and quite coincidentally came to its conclusion putting us in the middle of a large crowd of people marching downtown. As residents of Baltimore, over the next week we watched as the city dealt with protests and unrest, a curfew, and heavy presence of the police and national guard. It was fascinating (and at times horrifying) to watch these events unfold, and we found ourselves constantly analysing them in terms of topics we had discussed on the tour--people using and "misusing" public space, attempted restrictions on where and when people were allowed to be in public, problems caused by failures of the city's infrastructure, massive ambiguity and confusion about whether it was okay to gather or protest in usually-unrestricted spaces, etc. The usual rules for what it was deemed acceptable and legal to do in public were stood on their head. Our tour couldn't have been better timed for helping us see the issues we had discussed in action during the events that followed.

We had a small group of four and visited Attman's, Isabella's brick oven, La Tavola, and Osteria Da Amedeo. Food tours are great way of seeing what local life is like and skipping to the front of the line to taste a variety of dishes. We saw historic sites like the Lloyd street synagogue, Corned beef row, the Carroll Mansion, Reginald F. Lewis museum, and birthplace of the Star spangled banner flag. It was about a 3.5 hour walking tour and there were intermittent breaks to eat in restaurants. Before this tour I had no idea there was a 'Little Italy' or a 'Corned beef row' and how much history these places had from the restaurants started by immigrants in the 1800s. It also makes a difference having an enthusiastic group and getting to know everyone. This tour is highly recommended.
