My wife and I had a little date night and decided to try this new restaurant. Our overall experience was great! We really liked the atmosphere and vibe of Bitterroot. Great for a date night with warm lighting and candles but not over the top though, they had some new school music playing and good vibes all around. Our server was attentive but gave us space which was nice. The French 75 and Old fashioned were excellent and the $5 old fashioned will have me dropping by anytime I'm in the neighborhood Now for the food- each dish we had was popping with flavor. We had the Thai beef salad: good combo of salty, sweet, and savory. Fresh crunchy veggies with the shaved tenderloin made the dish and kept it light. The beef short rib takes the gold medal. So tender the bone comes right out and the ratatouille and ricotta gnocchi pairs perfectly. Nice deep savory flavor from the short rib juxtaposed with the light ricotta gnocchi and tomatoes was nice. 10/10 would recommend! Love giving local places our business too instead of all the chains that are overrunning our area. We'll be back! read more

This place was amazing! Our server Katie was awesome and very sweet. I got the nutty goat flatbread and it was a 10/10, a deviled egg that was to die for, the lamb ratatouille which was another 10/10, and the banana bread cheesecake which was also good. This is a new hidden gem for locals. The food was outstanding in every way: presentation, flavor and temperature. Stepping inside was like walking into a new hip spot in the city. You can tell it's a craft cocktail, chef owned restaurant. The $5 old fashion had my husband from the jump. I am very particular about a French 75 and I am here to tell you it was better than Nola (I've had all the famous ones there too.) I had the filet and broccolini and we shared the street corn. Divine! I went here for my birthday and had a fantastic time. The ambiance was perfect, the service was on point and the food and drinks were beautiful. Had a delightful dinner on our first visit. I ordered the Snapper Piccata and my partner ordered the Mushroom Ragu. Everything was cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. The staff was friendly but professional. I normally don't care much for pasta, but the pasta on which my Snapper was presented was superbly fresh & springy. The lemon sauce & capers complimented it perfectly. We ordered two drinks: a Bitterroot and the Aren't You Glad I Didn't Say Banana drink. The banana drink was unusual, but really pleasant. The Bitterroot was sublimely balanced. The goat cheese flatbread app was on par with the rest of the meal. Nicely assembled & delicious. Perfect size as an app for two. The ratatouille side was amazing with the pistachio pesto. It was like my mouth was being assaulted by wonderful flavors all night! Wait times for food were long, but the chef made up for it with a little something extra. And, to be fair, this food was well worth the wait. Plus the atmosphere was perfect for talking to my date, so I didn't mind. Will definitely be back! read more

Food is amazing! Unique and intricate flavors. The chef does such a great job! Huevos Ranchers at brunch was to die for! We had such a blast at Bitterroot! My wife in I came in from Orlando to visit and decided this was the spot. We started with some mezcal cocktails and they were absolutely delicious and well balanced. Hospitality was super genuine and it felt like everyone really enjoys working here. Our server nailed the wine pairing and we just went with all her suggestions for food too. Chicken & Masa dumplings on point! Donnavon the GM came out to chat and he's the raddest. After dinner we moved the party to the bar where we sipped on mezcal and the bartender was just super friendly and amazing at his job. This is one of those special restaurants where the vibe is so authentic and the food & drink is so good you just have a lot of fun. Totally go here. A lot. read more

My friends took me out last night for my birthday. I had been raving about this place for months - amazing food, great bar vibe, superb desserts and top notch customer service. All true again last night, except when it came to our bill and splitting it 4 ways. We really don't know the back story as to what happened. But, it took 45 minutes to get our bill reconciled! Our server, Andrew, was very friendly and attentive the entire time. This review is not about him. He was great! We could tell he was having some trouble with the computer to settle our bill. At some point, he sought assistance from a manager- we assume. At this point, we had been waiting at least 30 minutes. One would think that the manager could have come to our table to explain or smooth over the situation, which he did not. At the minimum, he should have checked in with us before our server came back to the table. Perhaps, give us an update on the issue at hand, complimentary wine, a discount, or a simple, "We apologize for the inconvenience." It appeared that the manager was angry at Andrew, and he was uncomfortable coming back to our table? One of my friends was charged 2 or 3 times in real time on her credit card, so something was clearly wrong. Yes, they eventually corrected it. Long story short- we were very disappointed with the way our evening ended and all the drama with the bill. We spent hundreds of dollars for amazing food and drinks. But, we all felt sort of slighted by the behavior of the manager and no real feeing like he gave a damn. read more

My fiancé and I ate here last minute for an early Sunday dinner. We've lived here for almost 2 years and can't believe we've been missing out on this hidden gem. Our server, Deverick, took great care of us and had excellent recommendations. We had the charcuterie board, snapper piccata, short rib gnocchi for food. For drinks we had the purple lady, the gentleman's handshake, and the lions mane. Everything was so beautifully presented and delicious. The fare was very rich and indulgent, which is exactly what we wanted. The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance and they have it decorated for Christmas along with jazzy Christmas music. We have dined here in the past and it was good but not this trip. Service was lacking. Beef and broccoli dish was $37 and the beef was spongy and full of gristle. Sauce didn't taste any better than what you would get at Panda Express. For $37 we had expectations. The fish of the day was super messy. It was a whole fish but it was so messy to eat that it wasn't worth it. Wings for appetizer were over breaded. One cocktail tasted like straight clove. Seriously the whole meal and service was so bad that we are done. We won't go back. read more

The majority of the reviews for Bitterroot mystify me. I have been here 4 times in the last 8 months or so. The ambiance and aesthetics are wonderful and appreciated but the food is bland and lacks flavor. I have had 4 different entrees and three different desserts. The entrees are all visually appealing but they lack in flavor and are very average. The Bolognese, shrimp and rice, grouper piccata all looked great but were a letdown. The desserts - especially the cheesecake - were downright bad. I've never had flavorless and dry cheesecake until now. Bitterroot has a lot of promise but just doesn't deliver. After these 4 visits I won't return. Service the last two visits needed improvement as well. Waiter didn't know the menu on one visit and bartender was forgetful and inattentive on most recent visit. It's a shame. This could be a gem if done right. read more

We came for lunch and all three meals were just perfection My husband's steak was especially beautiful. It was a perfect Med-Rare, and served with delicious crispy fries! This is definitely a hidden gem for us locals. It's tucked into a corner in the HomeGoods parking lot?! I've passed it so many times and had no idea it was even there, but I digress. FANFREAKINGTASTIC...yes, it's a word lol. We started at the bar where we enjoyed wonderful cocktails. Cocktails that you'd pay $18 for in Chicago or NY. I enjoyed the Elysian Fields martini, which consists of Vodka, lemon, lychee, lavender, and rosemary, which sounds sweet but wasn't. Great combo of sweet and savory flavors. Husband had a few beers and wine with dinner. Four stars as their wine list wasn't quite what we'd hoped for and definitely over-priced by the glass. However, their food was fantastic. We had the Ricotta, pistachios, honey, sesame seeds, and local greens app and it was delightful. Light, airy with the sweet matching the salt of the cheese perfectly. The hubby had their Maitake and Calabrian Flatbread, which wasn't spicy enough for his taste but delicious and filling. We then shared the Short Rib Gnocchi, which wasn't what we expected but very good. My husband is Italian and very particular about his Gnocchi and these were more like dumplings than traditional Gnocchi. The meat however was large, almost an Osso Bucco cut with a long bone and fall off the bone tenderness. The flavor was also on point and definitely large enough to share. The Collard Greens with Pot Liquor was a tad too sweet for me but the hubby licked the plate. Lastly, we shared the Cauliflower Mash with roasted garlic, which was smooth and delicious. No room for dessert, that's for sure. All in all, we are thrilled we found this spot and cannot wait to bring our family when they arrive this summer! Aesthetically pleasing place with a lot of potential. I went on a Tuesday evening at prime dinner time and for awhile it was just us and 1 other party there. It was kind of awkward because it was extremely quiet inside except we could hear the people next to us and felt like we couldn't talk at a normal volume ourselves. Not really anyone's fault, but we'd prefer to have sat somewhere else while it was so dead/quiet inside for a bit of privacy. Additionally, a song would be playing and then be skipped to another song-- which felt odd and abrupt. I had the bolognese and it was good, but tasted like a glorified hamburger helper. My boyfriend had the burger and it was on what looked like a bun from a pack of buns you'd buy at a grocery store. It wasn't even warm. The meat itself was warm, but burnt. All in all, the quality for the price doesn't really add up. Additionally, I got the Elysian cocktail and it was good for the first couple sips, but the more I drank it, the more syrupy it tasted. I loved that you could reserve a table (which seems to be hard to come by at restaurants in Destin) and the staff was abiding by CDC Covid guidelines. read more

While vacationing from Atlanta, GA we decided to go out our final night at the beach. I ordered a delicious Scotch cocktail and had the braised short ribs that were fantastic. My daughter ordered the filet mignon (medium rare) that came with a creamed turnip mash that we loved. My had their beet salad (not my fav food), but she loved it. The decor was romantic casual and the prices were in line with most nicer restaurants. I would definitely recommend. read more

What an incredible dinner! We came to Destin for a weekend away, and the weather wasn't what we hoped for. We searched for the best places to eat and drink, and Bitterroot was by far the most exceptional! My husband and I were able to take let in a dinner event for charity that included wine pairings with a four course dinner. Each course was flavorful and delicious! The drinks were so good! I had a something called a purple lady which was similar to a French 75, and my husband had a bourbon drink. We wish we're staying another night so we could come back!
