    Sunday gravy
    Susan W.

We dined here last night with some great friends of ours . The staff was friendly and inviting . Our server Sarah was an absolute gem in dealing with our joking around . We started off with the nutty flat bread , it was delicious you can taste each ingredient and the house made pecan butter is absolutely perfect!I had the Sunday gravy which was so good and the ricotta on top is chefs kiss and adds an element to the dish that takes it to another level and makes it more than Sunday spaghetti (Italians iykyk). My husband had the gumbo and goat Caesar salad and said it was good . My friend had the redfish she said it was good even for redfish and her husband had the low country gnocchi which he raved about . They had a cinnamon roll for dessert that wasn't on the menu it was a special . I am a cinnamon roll expert and I'm here to tell you it was absolutely divine even though I winced at the $14 price on it , it was worth every penny . We will be back again and will have this on our regular list of places to go . The ambiance is classy and the staff are all kind and welcoming . I only have a picture of the Sunday gravy which easily is making it 3 meals for me . Portions are generous so go hungry !

OMG -- the Flounder Piccata isn't just good... it is absolutely delicious. Perfectly prepared, light yet rich, with capers and fresh lemon folded into a buttery sauce that melts together beautifully. Every bite felt intentional and elevated. And then -- the meat and potatoes. Another standout. The short rib was incredibly tender, and the potato cake was moist, rich, and full of flavor. True comfort food, done exceptionally well. I also highly recommend: * The deviled eggs * The fries cooked in beef fat (a must!) The steak tartare is excellent as well -- and my one and only recommendation: add the quail egg on top. I Miss that rich, luscious yolk mixed into the beef and spread over a crisp baguette ! Let's talk about the bar -- the bartender made one of the best martinis I've ever had. What truly sets Bitterroot apart is the combination of incredible food and a gracious, brilliant chef. You can feel the care, the creativity, and the commitment to quality in every dish. If you love farm-to-fork dining, this is the place to be. Easily one of the best restaurants in the area. Absolutely loved it -- will be back.

Bone marrow & escargot, beef tartare

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner here with a group of friends & 3 young kids. We had specified our party had kids in the reservation, & upon arrival, the table had kids menus ready in their seats which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered: -Beef tartare: this was delicious & one of the best tartares I've had. Generous portion. -Bone marrow & escargot: this was meh. It was hard to scoop the marrow out & hardly anything came out. Would be better to cut the bone length wise like other places. Also, the bread the escargot was on top of was wayyy too thick. -Foie gras torchon: rich & really delicious. Perfect ratio & balance of flavors to balance out the fattiness of the foie gras. -Blue crab pappardelle: this was amazing! If you're a crab lover, this is a must order. Generous portion of crab & great al dente pasta. -Husband ordered fish of the day (branzino I think?): fish was nicely cooked, but the sauce was inedible. Was way too sweet, like candy. -Kids had the fettuccine Alfredo & wagyu cheeseburger with fries from the kids menu. I thought both were overly salty, but they all enjoyed it. Fries were exceptionally good, but again, just too salty. Overall, we found some orders to be either exceptionally good or underwhelming. Service was attentive & we were given great wine recommendations to accompany our dinners. We enjoyed our meal & had plenty for lunch leftover with the generous portions.

We came in for happy hour on a Monday afternoon around 5 PM. We were promptly seated outside and noticed there were no other guests in the restaurant. We wondered if the food might reflect this but we were pleasantly surprised to find the opposite as the staff was more than ready to take good care of us. Drinks were phenomenal, food was terrific and Service was the best part! We received great recommendations from our server who delivered our food quickly. Happy hour was great as cocktails were $10 and wine was $6. Appetizers were 30% off and we tried a variety of items. Some of our favorite choices were the beet salad and shrimp primavera which was super fresh and had lots of asparagus and peas along with fresh pasta. Yum! I could literally eat the shrimp primavera every single day! So delicious. The chefs here absolutely know what they are doing. I highly recommend this restaurant

I had a fantastic dinner at Bitterroot! I sat bar side with Krystale and she was fabulous. The selection of cocktails were fantastic. They have a very large selection of liquors and wines. The food.. Oh my. This is food you could put up against some of the best cuisine out there. I had the Flounder Picatta which may sound different but trust it is worth the exploration! So light and airy but perfectly fried to have a little crunch without drying out the fish. I had their Banana Pudding to finish it off and it was delectable. It was a bit sweeter than I'm used to with the accompaniment of a caramel sauce but the presentation was fantastic. The one recommendation I'd have on the Banana Pudding is to pour your own sauce :) Not a negative but because I paid with card there was a 3.5% charge. Just a heads up if you're planning to come in, it might be worth getting some cash handy!

Food was so incredible the first time and server was eh. Despite the service being not what we expected for the food and ambiance. I was a server year ago and my standard is high, but even for my husband she could been a sub-par server at shoneys at best. But given the food choices in Destin of this caliber, I thought I'd try it again. So glad I did. Mason waited on us and he was absolutely incredible! I never had to ask for a thing, my dishes were taken away as soon as we were done eating, my water glass wand never empty and I'm not typically picky, but I really didn't like my drink from the bar, so what did Mason do? No questions asked, he brought me another kind. I think he should be the trainer of all the other servers, maybe even the manager, because he was five star just like the food! Will definitely be back every time we come to Destin!

Amazing service, Brittney added to the whole experience. Super knowledgeable, personable, and friendly. Food was phenomenal. Would return to again experience BOTH the service and the food. Super cute ambience, perfect and charming server, exceptional food.

If you're lucky, you'll have the absolute pleasure of being taken care of by Kennedy. Her deep knowledge of the menu, spot-on recommendations for preparation, and genuinely enjoyable conversation made our experience at Bitterroot exceptional from start to finish. This is easily one of the best farm-to-table restaurants we've experienced. The food wasn't just excellent, it was memorable. With a Michelin-trained chef at the helm, the dishes feature unique, thoughtful pairings that truly make the flavors come alive. We honestly wish we could give this place 10 stars. It's a true local gem, not a touristy spot with cookie-cutter food, and those are exactly the kinds of places we seek out when we travel. We're so glad we found it and couldn't recommend Bitterroot more highly as the place to eat in Destin.

Bitterroot delivers a local, upscale experience without upscale prices. I tried Bitterroot for the first time on my most recent trip to Destin with my family. It was one of our favorite meals of the trip. Certainly my #1. Every food item delivered. The picanha was delicious, though some pieces were chewy. The burger was tender and full of umami. The drinks were all great. My favorite cocktail was the Billionaire. Their old fashioned is one of the best I've tried (plus they're only $5 all day Monday!!). Service was great throughout the night. My family agreed we will be coming back here next time we're in town.

Disappointing. The crab legs were overcooked: ie: spongy. They did give us a discount. But I was so looking forward to that rare treat.

Our server was professional and clearly doing everything she could, but she was assigned several large tables and was completely overwhelmed. It was obvious she needed help, yet no one stepped in to support her. As a result, we waited at least an hour and a half for our dinners. To make matters worse, our bill included a charge that shouldn't have been there. When we politely spoke with management about our experience, we weren't looking to get anyone in trouble--we simply wanted them to understand what had happened and make it right. Instead of addressing the excessive wait or the billing error in a meaningful way, management instructed our server to remove her gratuity from the bill rather than taking responsibility themselves. That response said everything. The problems we experienced were clearly management issues, not our server's. She worked hard under impossible circumstances and deserved support, not to have her tip used as the solution. We made things right for our server, and stressed to her that this was not her fault. The kitchen produces great food, and the restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere. Unfortunately, poor management overshadowed what could have been a great dining experience. I hope they invest more in supporting their staff and taking ownership when things go wrong.

Most dinners on the menu are around $40 and kids meals are $15, and I would say this is a fair price. I got the stuffed flounder and my wife got the salmon and we were impressed. I would say they did take advantage of us with pricing on two things we ordered. I ordered a side of plain mac and cheese and was charged $15 for it. And my daughter got a glass of milk and was charged $5 for that drink. That price seemed tacky and out of touch. Overall would still recommend this restaurant.

Our bartender was very kind and accommodating, He answered all of our questions and made recommendations. All of the pizza offerings looked fantastic. We settled on the Calzone Genovese, even though this was a calzone there was no problem making it into a pizza. The wood fire pizza oven was in the center of the restaurant, so we were able to watch them make our pizza. It had ricotta cheese, mushrooms, pesto, and caramelized onions. It was very good and a nice change from a pizza with classic red sauce. The pizza crust had a good amount of char on the bottom with just the right amount of thickness.
