I'm taking a visit to Colorado, and got the amazing opportunity to try out one of the best GF cafes in Louisville! This was special because I am 100% GF, and struggle to find such a gluten-friendly cafe. I ate at Bittersweet Cafe and it was absolutely delectable! Such an adorable location, right on Main St, and had the cutest environment with lovely seating, large windows, and plants! I got: - Iced Matcha with Vanilla (7/10): It was quite your average matcha. What I did like about this particular matcha was that it wasn't too sweet! It went perfectly with the super sweet pastries and acted as a delicious palette cleanser. - Blueberry Earl Gray Muffin (9/10): This was one of the best GF muffins I've ever had. I LOOOVE earl gray flavored treats, and this one was especially unique. Each bite was incredible. HIGHLY recommend! - Blueberry Coffee Cake (9/10): DELICIOUS! With its large size it could serve many people, and it was incredible! Each bite got a bit of new flavor, sometimes cinnamon, crumb cake, or blueberry. So so good. - Lemon Bar (10/10): Possibly one of the best treats I have ever had. The creaminess of the custard mixed with the crust. I mean... absolute WOW. - Cubana Sandwich on GF Bread (9/10): So delicious, especially after my flight! The mustard and sauce made this sandwich perfect. I mean... WOW. Cute cafe right on Main Street in Louisville. I had the golden milk latte which was good but I felt that they used at too much turmeric. The foam was good but again way too much turmeric and was kind of grainy. However the chocolate cake was one of the best I've had. The texture was so smooth and silky and was the perfect amount of sweetness and richness which I find is a very difficult balance with a cake like this. That is no longer the case, the food has gone downhill, today, I purchased the turkey club and it was the worst sandwich. The counter staff are rude, and take their time before taking your order. Today, I stood there waiting to order while two of the staff carried on a conversation. I will no longer patronize Bittersweet. We hired Bittersweet to cater a retirement party for 100 guests and they partnered with /por/ Wine House to do so. While the charcuterie board was attractive and staff were pleasant, several issues left us disappointed. Setup was incomplete when guests arrived, food ran short by halfway through the event, and staff left earlier than agreed upon. We were told the executive chef from /por/ Wine House would oversee the board, but learned the day before he was no longer involved. The biggest disappointment was the $450 "custom" dessert platter--store-bought Costco macarons and lemon bites instead of the handmade petit fours and lemon crumb bars we were told to expect. While a 20% refund was issued, we received no explanation or personal response to our questions and complaints. Overall, the event fell short. read more

We popped in here by chance, a typical trendy little spot, thankfully we were able to find seating. My friend & I both ordered caramel macchiatos but they tasted completely different. The staff are rude and not friendly. They look miserable and their vibe is gross also the coffee is not hot and there are better options than this place. Go up the street to find good customer service and good options elsewhere because the workers are snobs. I was overcharged and for a mocha it was $5.61 and I paid $6.73 so $1.12 overcharged. I went with a group of friends last weekend and promised myself to comment on the lack of flavor of their coffee (it's always been my experience from when they opened.) I just wish they would make a decent coffee. Other than that, nice atmosphere, love the patio (and that's what keeps me coming despite the bad coffee.) Service is hit or miss, but I can't blame the staff, it seems to be more a lack of experience/training and they are also often understaffed. I must say that service has been more often than not a miss the last few times I visited Bittersweet and I am not sure I can continue going there just because of the patio. Especially when Louisville offers so many other options (Moxie has improved its coffee and they offer cold brew.) It seems like a new coffee shop is popping up in the area every few months (Vic's soon to open on Courtesy Rd.) read more

While vacationing in Colorado, my mom and I were walking around Louisville and decided to stop in here for some coffee. I was pleasantly surprised by how isolated it feels in such a busy area. The inside is tastefully decorated with small flower arrangements etc. There is outdoor seating available as well. I got the iced matcha and my mom had the mocha latte. She couldn't say enough good things about it and it was the same for me! I wish I had a chance to try a food or bakery item though. Everything looked so good. There are dairy free milk options for vegans, as well as some good looking sandwich options that can be made vegan/vegetarian as well. I have been a long time customer for years and have gotten my coffee ground from here multiple times before. I went in today to refill my coffee for my machine at home and this barista in particular said they could not grind coffee. Additionally, I waited a very long time for them to acknowledge our presence. After this encounter I called Giovannitti and they quickly answered my question and promptly added that they would love to grind coffee beans for me. We went in with some friends to have some desserts after having dinner with them. The woman running the counter was very friendly but didn't seem to have much experience with the food. We were disappointed to see the Parisian drinking chocolate advertised but listed as "coming soon". The desserts looked so pretty in the case- but we had the chocolate overboard and the pumpkin spice cake, and both were very dry. The top half of the overboard was fudgey and rich though. Our friends had the South American style hot chocolate, which was savory and spicy. Not my style but they liked it. The space and location were lovely- I loved the local artwork for sale and the seating was very comfortable. This place is my haven for when I want to do some work in a relaxing environment. I love the wood interior with natural light, plenty of seating and outlet options, and art on the walls. It's chill and less CRAZY busy than Moxie Bread. A regular cup of coffee comes in a huge mug and can be refilled once for free. Both times I tried the food though, I walked away thinking I had overpaid. I ordered the BBQ breakfast burrito, expecting it would be inexpensive like the regular breakfast burritos, only to receive sticker shock at $7. It was not $7 worth of food. The same experience happened with the smoked salmon salad. I devoured the delicious salad only to think, but I'm still hungry! The Cobb salad looks like a better deal. For someone who likes a strong food ratio of quantity to quality, the food options did not impress me. Overall, I definitely recommend this place to study, work, or have a quiet hangout. The coffee is quite horrible. It tasted like Folgers. Reminded me of the free cup of coffee you used to be able to get at a bank or at Home Depot. The burrito wasn't very good either. The meat tasted stale and the raw jalapeños were extremely spicy. The dining area was cold. Probably was around 60 degrees in there while it was 36 outside brrrrr. It's not a cozy coffee shop unfortunately. The whole experience felt cheap and careless. It wouldn't take much to make this place better. They put they 12Oz latte down on the counter then put the 16Oz latte down on the counter as he looks at his screen goes "almond milk 12OZ and... no wait the 16OZ is the almond milk..." we ask are they right ? He goes "yes, just said them backwards" NOPE they are both sugar bombs of sweetened almond milk. What my fiancé ordered... but completely undrinkable. The guy saw he messed up and decided it was easier to lie to customers. It was, it was very easy to permanently lose customers. I'm crossing this place off my list when I'm in town every week... Heads up they also revered the top settings on the credit card check out so if you reach for the first top box to give a dollar your actually tipping 25% or something like that... The wait was just too long (20+ mins) to get drinks only, and I noticed that our (simple) drinks were made several minutes after people that had ordered after us were. Specifically selected this establishment because my mother is gluten and dairy sensitive. After confirming with the cashier, the order met those dietary restrictions I checked a second time with another staff member who indicated they could not guarantee there wouldn't be cross contamination when preparing the entree. We canceled the order and was told we would get a refund on our credit card. Needless to say, 10 days later, multiple phone calls which the owner never returned, an entry in the "contact us" section of the web site - the money has never been returned. Sad that a business would punish a customer for having a dietary concern and then keep the money when we were never served. What made me give this place two stars was I didn't feel welcomed whatsoever. The cashier/barista seemed uninterested in my patronage. I ordered a peppermint mocha, a drip and a hazelnut latte. Well i ended up with two hazelnut lattes and a drip. I did purchase a day old cinnamon roll which had almonds in the spirals and was heavenly and a day old chocolate chip scone which was alright.. The white chocolate raspberry did not disappoint, was very good. Bittersweet has one thing going for it: the name selection. Downtown Louisville is a quaint little place for a surprisingly genuine evening or day out, and Bittersweet lines the entrance to an enchanting alley and two small band stands. As for the cafe/bakery itself, the coffee is palatable but service attitude poor, bakery selection slim and prices outrageous. Two sandwiches and sides set us back almost $30 before beverages, and we didn't get a "thank you" for service or tip. Speaking of, it's a cafe where you cleanup and do most service yourself, aside from the running of the food. I put off visiting the bakery since having a home in Louisville, and the upside is I wasn't missing out. I doubt I'll stop by again, the hours for remote and late work aren't accommodating, so there's virtually no incentive to visit unless walking by to pôr. read more
