I brought my…read more2003 Mini S JCW in to the shop because I was concerned that the engine might have overheated for a minute or so and I wanted them to check the radiator thermostat to see if it was working correctly. I also needed them to address a problem with the power door locks. They indicated that there was nothing wrong with the thermostat, but that the radiator fluid might have been compromised. Close to 2 months later, and over $4,500 poorer, I got my car back from the service station. They upsold me on a need to replace the oil pan gasket, which was the bulk of the charge. I didn't see any issue with oil leakage or loss to justify this, but went with their recommendations since they were the experts. They also damaged the oil pressure sensor during the repair and couldn't figure out how to fix it (we compromised on them installing an external oil pressure gauge, which I had to purchase). I now found out that they also damaged the wheel speed sensor (which per a repudiable outside shop showed signs of being removed and reinstalled with a pliers). This has resulted in the classic "Mini Trifecta", and has cost me an additional $400 to get repaired. I was afraid to bring my car back to the Mini Dealership for repair after the last mess they made. Now I know why my brother in law (who also drives a Mini) drives an additional 100 miles one way to get to Buffalo to have them work on his. As my Mini is starting to get old I was considering getting a new one. With this kind of local support I certainly can't justify that.

We have purchased and…read moreleased vehicles from a dozen or more dealerships over the years and MINI of Rochester is the only one we'd never return to. After several years with the our first Mini, we looked to acquire another Clubman, but the sales tactics used against us were overtly predatory, especially for someone that was already a customer. This included withholding information from us, like equity in our vehicle, until we signed an agreement and gave them a down payment for a new vehicle. They told us that they could inform us of the equity only when we came to pick up the vehicle in several weeks to several months. We asked several times for them to at least provide a range, and they refused. This pushed us to look elsewhere for a vehicle, and no other local dealers put us through that during the process. BMW of Rochester, Audi of Rochester, Ide Volkswagon, and others, were all wonderful to deal with and were very transparent about the entire process and the costs involved. We decided to not pursue another transaction with Mini of Rochester due to this experience. We did however turn the vehicle in to them, and when we did this, they agreed to cover the disposition cost, as a courtesy, as we were 15k miles under the lease agreement. It was our fault for not getting this in writing, as we've now received a bill from Mini Financial for the cost of the disposition, as the dealership never paid it. The dealership has now admitted that there was a miscommunication on their end and that they would no longer be covering the disposition costs. So we are left footing the bill due to their mix-up, which is inappropriate at best. Our experience with multiple salespersons, managers, and customer service representatives at Mini of Rochester have all exhibited a complete lack of care for their customers. If you're looking for a Mini in the WNY area, you'd do yourself a favor by heading to Mini of Buffalo instead.

An honest, reliable car repair shop that stands behind its high quality work is a business to bring your business to. I've been going there for years with my car; it runs extremely well, I feel physically safe with its level of care and repair and I've never walked out of the shop thinking that I have been overcharged or had reason to question whether the work was done properly. My Father bought a 1964 back in the early 90s and placed it in storage in 1994. The car sat in the…read moregarage until my brother expressed interest in it, so my father gave him the car. My brother bought an engine for it and began the restoration that he had dreamed about. A few months after he started working on the engine, he was in a car accident and didn't make it. So my younger son wanted the car and we decided to complete the restoration. We took the car to Wild Rides in Medina, NY in September of 2017 and gave him $2000 to get started with the engine. The plan was to have the car finished by the spring of 2018. July of 2018 the restoration was going very slow(actually nothing done to the car) and the owner of Wild Rides asked for $5000 to get started immediately. We paid the $5000 and he had indicated that he wouldn't need much more and we assumed the total costs of the restoration to be around $10000. After he received the $5000 nothing was done to the car. We started complaining and found out that there were others there with the same problem. As of March 2020 we have a car that is all torn apart and paint stripped down to bare metal and he seems to work on it when he feels like it. In my opinion after almost 3 years dealing with Wild Rides, you might want to look elsewhere if you actually intend on getting your car completed and driving it again. If I could I would give no stars as my car is worse off now than when it went in and I am worried he will never complete the restoration. He has cars brought in and works on them instead of ours. However, wasting $700 and being put in a life threatening situation is enough of a reason for me to write a review that is four thousand words long. To summarize what follows, the Auto Stop installed old brakes on my wife's MINI, sent her back home in a car that leaked braking fluid, promised to refund a part of the $700, caused me to loss yet another $100, stated that upon consulting their attorney they were not obligated to do anything, and said that their business was facing closure. Now, the details, if you are interested: I had been a loyal customer of Marcie's (the owner of the Auto Stop) for most of the three and a half years that I lived in Rochester, NY. During that time I've come to their shop multiple times with my 2014 Mazda3 and my wife's 2011 MINI. The service was always good, communication better than your average shop. However, things took a sudden turn at the end of 2019. I moved to MD in November while my wife stayed in Rochester for few more months. In December she took her MINI to the Auto Stop for brake job -- rear breaks, including calipers, were replaced. Run her about $700. It was Friday. While she drove the car during the weekend she called me saying that all brake lights came on. I told her to go back to the shop which she did. She called me saying that the car was barely braking but she made it to the shop; the mechanics have told her that all braking fluid leaked and she was lucky to have made it; they proceeded to fix, i.e. tighten whatever wasn't, added (or flushed) the fluid and let her go at no charge. Having heard that I was in a shock -- it was only luck that my wife wasn't driving to visit me in MD that weekend as that could have resulted in her loosing her brakes while driving at the PA highway (with 70mph speed limit!). I was frustrated but trusted that it was an honest mistake. Fast forward to February of 2020, my wife joined me in MD. As soon as I saw her drive I heard and saw that her rear brakes were in terrible condition -- extremely rusted, flaking, and chipped. I did not believe that these had been installed new. I was upset but kept calm. I went to a local shop whose mechanics confirmed that the brake rotors, pads, and calipers were all in bad shape; calipers were shot. I conveyed the findings to Marcie over phone and told her directly that I would like to obtain a refund -- at least partial -- as I had to have the entire brake job re-done. My multiple phone calls with Marcie were difficult to say the least. She offered fixing the brakes if I came back to her shop which I did not want to do as I believed that driving few hundred miles on these brakes was dangerous. She stated that she might be able to do a partial refund for the parts. I agreed as that was better than nothing. I had the local shop fix the brakes again and give me back the old calipers (which I had to pay extra $100 for as shops normally send old calipers to manufacturers for a discount on the new ones). I shipped the old calipers back to the Auto Stop as agreed with Marcie. Upon receiving the calipers, Marcie asked me for receipt from my local shop who took them off. For the next three weeks I haven't heard from Marcie so I called her again in the beginning of April to check on my partial refund. Marcie answered the phone and stated that it was impossible that these calipers were installed in December (my point exactly), that had I gone to her in person with the MINI she would have had the brakes fixed, and that she was waiting to talk to her supplier. At this point I have lost my hope for any refund. Marcie made it very clear that I am not getting the $700, not even part of it, back. She made sure to tell me that she had checked with her attorney as far as what her responsibility is and that she was not responsible to provide any sort of remedy. She also told me that her shop was facing closure and she cannot afford addressing my brakes. I used to refer my friends to this shop. I no longer do. $800 ($700 plus the $100 I had to pay for the core) is a lot of money. I could have taken my wife on a very nice weekend get-away but instead I had to pay another $700 to have the brakes fixed again.
