This review is all about service. We are big fans of Fosters and this location is our go to. In the last week we've gone into this fosters twice. The first time we went, we ordered a kids meal two items a basket of fries, a fountain drink, and on the kids meal, we asked for a bottle of water instead of a fountain drink because our son does not drink soda. That total came out to be $40. My son and I went in today to grab two kids meals and for both of those we asked for a bottle of water because again they don't drink any soda. When the cashier rang us up the total came out with tip to be $40. I thought this was strange because I ordered two kids meals and those are nine dollars each so even with an up charge for a bottle of water . My total should not have been $40. When I asked, I was told that one she was saving me money and two that the reason it is the way it is is because of the bottle of water. When I looked at how she charged me, she charged me for an item a half basket of fries and a bottle of water. The item was $6.75, the basket of fries was $4.50, and the bottle of water was $2.50. When I explained to them that nowhere will you ever find two kids meals for $40? I was told that it was correct and they would take it to corporate. Both the cashier and the manager were rude and because of this, we will not go back to this location. We were in the area for a Christmas party and needed a place for lunch. We stumbled upon this place. The parking lot was big and easy, parking the inside was spacious and didn't have an issue finding a table. You order with the cashier there menu is pretty small, not a ton of a selection. I opted in to get the 5 boneless wings for $7.25. I got Asian, the flavor was really good, and the size of the wings was good. My boyfriend went with the Philadelphia cheeseteak for $9.20 and added hotsauce. He said it was enjoyable, not as good as a Philadelphia cheesesteak. However, was still tasty. His aunt got the burger meal combo with fries for $15.25. The fries were fresh cut and got a nice portion. We ended the meal with a chocolate shake for $6. It was delicious after about half an hour passed and we could actually drink it. It was so thick, and they didn't give a thick milkshake straw to drink, so it was impossible to drink until it melted. Worst chicken cheesesteak I have ever had. I can safely say that the people here have never seen an actual cheesesteak before. Cheap chicken meat wit h a solid layer of white provolone cheese on top with hardly any veggies. Yeah, just avoid the cheesesteak at all costs. The salad with fried chicken was fine but why is it served in a plastic container? Everything just felt very cheap and like a fast food restaurant. Tonight, I came here with family and friends...mind you that we are a large group including babies, children, and lots of adults. The environment was quite hectic like a zoo. The employees just shrugged their shoulders when they can't answer our questions about seating us. The manager on duty was wiping down tables next to us then finally acknowledging what we were trying to do. It was a self-service fast food spot. First, you fill out a form then you go to pay at the cashier. Note: Listen for your name because the servers don't know who order which items. Food: Dad - Philly Cheesesteak with a basket of Fries and Soda Mom - Mild Traditional Wings with Bleu Cheese sauce...the wings were okay Me - Original Charburger with Mayo + Ketchup sauce and Pepper Jack Cheese & a side of Fries...my burger had burned edges...jeez the food was just hella salty as someone has no self-control back there in the kitchen It was definitely a hangout spot for the local kids because Foster's tonight was super duper packed. Ordered pickup through door dash. My order was two Ruben combos, one with fries the other with onion rings. My order was incorrect, they forgot to pack my fries. The onion rings were below average. I'm done with Fosters. Used to be a nice place to sit and watch a game, etc. But no more. Like everyone else, during Covid, they added the tip request to the checkout process. Minimum is 15% (or you can be a cheapskate and select no tip). Tipping at a counter service place shouldn't be expected, IMO, but even at that the rates suggested are excessive. A while back a milkshake increased to nearly seven bucks after tax, or nearly eight with the 15% tip. And the cups shrunk to 16 ounces! The "junior" burger used to be roughly a 1/4 lb size, which was decent. Now it's more of a slider, so the choice is "huge" or "tiny." Now they've added a 4% service charge for credit card users. Today, my "slider" came with a huge pile of fries, but they were hard as rocks, and 2/3 of them were shorter than an inch (i.e. the trash bits from the bottom of the bin). Fosters used to be really great. But not any more. Too expensive for too little, and the little you get should have gone into the garbage can. read more

The his isn't necessarily about the Haymarket location but about Fosters in general. Burgers are cooked well done. I prefer a nice medium rare. Buns are hearty but have a stale feeling. They only have sweet and low for sweeteners. After they take your order and ask for payment, it pops up for a tip. This is not a sit down restaurant so service is not really much if at all. I do tip 20% anyway but it does bother me. The fries are excellent. The burger is above average but like I said before, it's cooked to death. I know this is for health department reasons but Red Robin cooks to order. Anyway, the restaurant is ok but it could be better. read more

My first experience with a Foster's Grille was at the Haymarket location. It's located in a red brick building just off Route 55 - you could easily miss the place driving by - I know it took a while before I realized it was there. I went in for lunch during our biggest snow event of the year to date. I was starving and needed sustenance. I was trying to balance my need for food with the fact that I needed to get online and on a conference call. There were not to many people in that day - so I pulled out my MacBook Pro and EVDO card and spread out over the table. The waiter came over, greeted me, and offered me the menu - essentially a little paper checklist of menu items. You check off what you want, and circle the ingredients you want included. The menu is very short. Your options include the Charburger, hot dogs, hot turkey or beef sandwiches, chicken sandwich, Veggie Burger, salads, fries, milkshakes, lemonade, and soda. I opted for the Charburger with everything, fries, and a diet coke. The food did not take long to come out, the burger was just oozing with delicious ingredients: bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mayo, and mustard. I added a dollop of ketchup and a small pile for my fries. The burger was mouthwatering! Perfectly cooked, fresh, the veggies were crisp, and the fries were cooked just right: not greasy, and crisp, lightly seasoned. I devoured the burger. It was very messy. I needed extra napkins. We popped off the highway traveling through Virginia, and stopped in for a burger. The customer service was great! We felt like we'd been going there for years... And, the burgers!! So juicy, temperature was perfect, and the toppings were so fresh. There was a great selection of local IPAs, and the manager Cory was fully engaged in providing the best experience for the diners. Foster's has become my go-to burger joint. They consistently make a great burger, and I love the flavor of the beef. In all honesty, I haven't tried any other item so I can't really speak to the rest of the menu but I have had the fries and they are just as good. A word to the wise though, if you get it to go, they may not be as crispy as they would be if you ate inside. I think something with the foam packaging and steam softens them up, which is unfortunate. Quality wise, I put this place above the other burger places around that would be classified as upper end fast food (i.e., Five Guys, Smash Burger...etc) and the price reflects it but it is much better than those other places and definitely worth it. If I had to comment I would say their online ordering process is slow, slower than just going into the restaurant and ordering it at the counter. I have ordered online a few times but ended up stopping because they never had the order ready on time and I waited around 10 minutes longer than if I had just ordered at the counter. All-in-all, this is a great place and would highly recommend you give it a shot. So far, it is the best burger I have had in Gainesville/Haymarket. read more

There was a stretch of time there where I had sort of given up on Fosters in Haymarket. 4-5 years ago we either ate there or got takeout about 5 times over 6 months and it seemed like every time we did the order was screwed up, the food undercooked, or there was an issue with the service. I have to say that we have been back at least 4 times in the last few months and every time the food has been spot on, the to-go pickup ready right on time, and the order was correct. All this while the restaurant was dealing with the new COVID 19 constraints is impressive, to say the least. Net-net, they won my loyalty back and we will keep coming back. It makes me sad to write this because this is in fact my absolute favorite restaurant, I've been coming here since high school, the food here is never as good as the location in Bristow and Manassas, and their pricing keeps going up and up I paid 18.43 for boneless wings meal and I could have gotten a steak for that price at a different restaurant. If I could leave a 0 star review I would. This place is horribly run by the managers. All of the cashiers/ servers are mostly respectful and have a great attitude. The manager however, is extremely disrespectful to his employees, and honestly just an idiot. I was eating there this morning and one of the cashiers passed out in the bathroom. Instead of being a concerned employer, he instead yelled at her and told her to leave. Ive had many acquaintances who have worked and seeing the way he speaks or interacts with them is extremely unprofessional. I can't believe he stays in his position after the way he treats his employees and as a restaurant worker myself, it's extremely bothersome that these people work under his control. Terrible service! Hostess was absolutely wonderful. She had a great attitude and was very friendly. However, we had an issue with an order. Basically the burger temperature was barely room temperature, the American cheese was not even a little melted. I also ordered blue cheese on top. It wasn't crumbled but a spread and it was as thick as the hamburger. The manager never one time stopped by to check on the situation even after being informed of the issue by the hostess.
