Tazza Kitchen was a lovely choice for Valentine's Day. The atmosphere struck a great balance between elevated and relaxed. Special enough for the occasion without feeling overly formal. It was my first visit, and I was genuinely impressed with the ambiance, service, and overall quality of the meal. The menu offers a nice variety of food and cocktails. I ordered the espresso martini, which was smooth and well balanced, and my boyfriend had the Vieux Carré, which he really enjoyed. We started with the cast iron goat cheese, and it was rich, layered in flavor, and paired with bread that was delicious on it's own. For my entrée, I chose the margherita pizza, and it was one of the best I've had. The sauce was perfect, and the crust had an ideal texture and flavor. My boyfriend ordered the spicy sausage & black pepper honey pizza. While neither of us found it particularly spicy, it was still bold and very flavorful. I really wanted to enjoy Tazza Kitchen. The food was actually really good, which somehow made the whole experience even more frustrating. When we first walked in, the place was pretty crowded, but we were able to grab a couple spots at the bar and figured we'd settle in for a good night. That's where things went sideways. The bartender appeared to be the only one working, and while I understand being busy, the attitude and behavior were honestly shocking. Every interaction felt aggressive. Remotes getting slammed around. Napkins and pens tossed onto the counter. Water being splashed onto the floor like a toddler throwing a tantrum. The entire atmosphere at the bar felt tense and uncomfortable. It got to the point where we almost felt awkward ordering anything because every request seemed like it was ruining their night. At one point another couple sat down next to us and almost immediately started looking around like, "is this really happening right now?" I actually ended up warning them that no, they weren't imagining it, and that it had been our experience the entire time too. That alone should tell you how uncomfortable the atmosphere was. Which is unfortunate because the kitchen actually did their part. The food was good. Really good. But good food only carries a place so far when the service makes you want to leave before the meal even arrives. I've worked in and around hospitality long enough to understand busy nights happen. But there's a huge difference between being overwhelmed and taking it out on customers. Tazza Kitchen has the food figured out. I went to the Southside location once and got the world's worst service. I had actually forgotten about that when someone suggested we go to the Short Pump one. Unfortunately, there was still not great service again. The server was professional and polite... but he wasn't present. Someone else brought our food out. He checked on us for the first time when we were almost done eating. I had to ask the hostess for the check. The food was just okay. If it had been amazing, that might have been worth waiting for, but it was forgettable. The menu is blah and standard. Nothing exciting. The flavors, meh. I got the arugula and proscuitto pizza last time. Someone at our table got that this time. It looked really dry. I ordered salmon because I thought you can't mess it up. It was just okay. Tazza Kitchen has everything a stellar restaurant should: excellent and unique food offerings, speedy and polite service, an inviting atmosphere, and apparently even great happy hour deals for those who want to swing by after work. I am definitely the kind of guy who likes to plan ahead, and thankfully I remembered to do so for Valentine's Day. This place is very conveniently located on the outskirts of Short Pump and isn't hard to find, parking is plentiful as well. Went in through the interesting front door (which was HUGE, you can't miss it) and was politely greeted by the two hostesses who quickly led us to our table. I couldn't help but notice the fresh flowers and real candles that adorned every table, that is strong attention to detail right there and speaks to their quality. The menus revealed an impressive selection of items: outstanding pizzas, delicious appetizers like the goat cheese dip, and many other pasta, bowl, and steak options as well. The dip was amazing, and it was nice of them to bring more bread by for us (free of charge) even though that wasn't a listed element of the appetizer on the menu. We had to kept a little of the dip for our pizzas too, which turned out to be a good call! The spicy sausage pizza was my choice and I did not regret it one bit, and my girlfriend's margherita pizza was flavorful and excellent. Drink selection was similarly strong and I opted for a Vieux Carre and my girlfriend for an Espresso Martini. Both were well-crafted, attractive, and made a lasting impression. Their happy hour deals appear to be strong so we are hoping to return here again for those, particularly since many of our local happy hour favorites have been jacking up prices like crazy lately. Our server was excellent and made frequent callbacks, and pre-bussing was on point as well. We never felt crowded by plates, or indeed crowded at all thanks to intelligent table spacing and noise control elements within the restaurant. While this place is a bit on the pricey side, that is literally the only drawback, and even that can be mitigated by the happy hour deals if you go early enough. This place is a strong 5.0 stars, to be sure, and a strong choice for any occasion. Hip Trendy Restaurant in Short Pump VA While on a trip to Richmond, my friend and I were having a blast enjoying new restaurants. Drinks kept filled, extra napkins without asking, extra sauces or chips or whatever without asking. Worth the rare 30+% tip every time. Food is high-chain level and priced accordingly. Better than you would get in chain places, less than fine dining. Evaluating it for what it presents itself to be, this is a solid 4 star menu. I recommend the pizzas, the cast iron goat cheese, the tacos, and any salad. If you have money in your pocket, consider the flat iron steak (love the egg) with the crab cake added -- a real treat. Last visit I got the quiche and a salad. Quiche was rich and flavorful -- recommended. Reserved our patio table online with ease. It was cozy and comfortable. There were a few dogs hanging out with their families enjoying the breeze. The food was good, but it was not as great as I was expecting it to be. There were a lot of food options that had nuts in them or nuts in the sauce that came with the meal. Luckily, I asked the waiter what one of the sauces were that came with the cauliflower and they include nuts in it because I'm allergic to nuts. It was not something that I could get and I noticed a lot of other foods on the menu included that same sauce so it would be helpful to me and many other people who I think are allergic to nutsto include maybe what that sauce has in it so that you don't have to ask or mention it on the menu that that item includes nuts. Other than that, the service was great. The atmosphere was great. We sat outside. It was a nice evening and the food that we did have was very good. We ended up being moved because we were initially sat in the corner outside, and there was no type of Breeze, but they did allow us to move to a different table in the open that had fans in the area so it was a nice evening. read more

Came here while visiting family and really loved this spot. I got the BLT that had smoked mozzarella, arugula, and a tomato spread with bacon. It was so delicious and the smoked mozz was such a great touch. My husband got a white pizza with caramelized onion and bacon that was delicious. The drink I can't think of the name of it but it was DELICIOUS! The crab cakes with French fries are my favorite! If I see crab cakes on the venue then most likely I will choose that! Again, first timers to this place. Went based on recommendation of a HS Friend. Service and staff are top notch. No complaints. They were very patient in helping us make choices. The margaritas are very good from the bar. He recommended the spicy sausage pizza (which I went with). My wife tried the prosciutto and arugula pizza with a side salad (crunchy potato and arugula). I've lived in the neighborhood for years but this was my first visit to Tazza. Even though I didn't score it highly, I will try it again. $30 for 2 small tacos and two appetizers with water at lunchtime. Pros: good food, wonderful service, unique dishes. Cons: overpriced, very loud interior, tables and seating in disrepair outdoors. We were first seated inside at a four top right in the front. It was very loud and uncomfortable with people constantly walking past and being in medias res. Before our meal came, we asked to be moved to the outdoor seating. Our server accommodated us, but the table we were seated at was broken and kept wobbling a couple of inches when touched. It was quieter but still without privacy for a conversation. I couldn't help but overhear everything the table next to us was talking about. I ordered the appetizer of meatballs and an appetizer of roasted beets. My husband ordered the short rib tacos. My meatball cup had 4 bite size meatballs and sauce. They were very good. The roasted beets were diced and were served cool. There was about 1/2C of beets. I like beets a lot but these weren't anything more than ordinary. I make beets almost weekly and these did not taste any different than mine at home. Very simple. The short rib tacos on corn tortillas were good and it was a portion of 2 small tacos. It had a caramelized onion goo on it that was very tasty. We both had water. Our total was about $30 and it did not fit the meal we had. I wanted to try the tiramisu but I couldn't justify the $12 for it. The server did say it was made in-house. read more

Scott's Addition location has improved significantly here over the last two years. The bowls are definitely a great place to start. I highly recommend the Mediterranean bowl - add crab cake - it's lump crab, perfectly blended with no filler and a good Dijon & fresh mustard seed. Any of the pizzas with that BUF buffalo mozzarella are typically wood fired to perfection! I highly recommend the huevos rancheros breakfast pizza or French toast for brunch. I haven't had consistent experiences at the Alverser location...and Short Pump is hit or miss. Consistently, the cocktails here are where it's at. The sangria, Pinky ring, and Love Language are my top 3 Go-to drinks!! The service is not great, but good. No complaints, just get what you expect. I love the way they have set the tone to deliver an atmosphere that is versatile enough for a date night, brunch, happy hour, working lunch, and you still feel really chic in there. Entered restaurant at 4:30pm with a party of five. Out of steak, out of beer (3) meatball apps were cold. Our party was shoehorned into a booth for four patrons. The restaurant was 3/4 empty. As a result, we used a two top table next to the four top booth so we could dine comfortably. A manager rudely instructed us to be "done" by 5:45pm due to another reservation. Mind, the restaurant is still 3/4 empty. At 5:30pm, the manager arrives to tell us the other party arrived and we had to leave. Handled very poorly and we will not return. Down in VA, Tazza Kitchen has a few different locations serving up some wood fired creations. After checking out some of their reviews, I was excited to give them a try. To start, I had a small poppy Caesar salad and the cast iron goat cheese as an app. Both of these were very good and the goat cheese dip could have been a full meal. I was dining solo and had to stop myself so I could eat my entree, which was their vodka pie with chicken added. This too was great with a light crust, and a good balance of the pesto and vodka sauce. Definitely something different that you don't always see, which obviously grabbed my attention. If you are in VA or the Carolinas, I'd recommend checking them out for a quality meal. read more

Its noisy. We were sat near a workstation where they enter tickets. It bongs constantly. I'm hard of hearing and it was driving me nuts. Bong. The food is delicious, consistent. Bong. I got the tacos, skip the chicken, the braised short rib is awesome. Bong. Wife likes some salad bowl, that she customizes, then takes half of it home. Bong. Good portions. It's a bit pricey they are small tacos, not even double corn like it should be. Bong. I find time it takes to order and get your meal, long. Slow. Besides the stupid machine interrupting b o n g. There is a large man walking around guess he is waiter or runner or something. But he needs a bigger shirt. I don't want to see your belly. I am a big heavy guy also , my shirt can be tucked in or if untucked, the shirt is big enough for no exposure. Have some decorum. Why the management hasn't resolved this after several visits. Unlike all these others, the service is hit or miss. There is no way I am tipping there 30% like some other dude says. Crazy. People you should tip about 5 bucks. call it a day. Overall Taste We were super excited to try Tazza Kitchen based on the reviews and the many mouthwatering photos posted on Yelp. They had a nice selection to choose from, including brunch on Saturday's and Sunday's. The pricing was average and made sense, until we actually received and tasted the food. Based on the photos I expected my tacos to be much larger than they were. Let's just say within two bites they were gone! The tacos in size and flavor left so much to be desired. The cheese pizza lacked the very thing it was, CHEESE! The spicy sausage & black pepper honey pizza had a great concept, but lacked in flavor. Everything was pretty much bland. With a lot more seasoning this place would have been great. Location & Aesthetic This place was easy to find and had plenty of parking. The outside offered a nice covered eating area with heating during the cooler months. Upon entering, we were greeted by a beautiful wooden door and greenery. The inside interior has a warm and cozy feel. We made reservations prior to, so they provided us with a nice private dining area in the back. We absolutely loved and enjoyed that area. I had a mixed experience at this restaurant. The server was nice but not very attentive. The food came in an acceptable amount of time. But the food taste wasn't great. The tacos were ok. The pizza was too salty and not worth the premium price. The shrimp risotto was just bad. The shrimp tasted rubbery, too salty. Then the risotto was absolutely tasteless, bland. The only good thing we ordered was the fries.... Also when we went, we originally sat outside but there were just too many flies that we eventually asked to move indoors. I think they could have some kind of mosquito lamp to deal with that. Can't see myself coming back. If you do want to give the restaurant a shot, order something different from what we did and eat indoors. read more
