Parking is easy, and convenient. They have ton of pizza, styles, flavors, and crusts. We settled on the "Build your own" pizza. We chose the Detroit style, four piece, with original crust. It was the perfect choice for our eating wants and needs. We added pepperonis onions, mushrooms and black olives. Service was slow, but the friendly waitress made it more enjoyable. Overall, the pizza was OK. It was a little burnt, and hard to cut. The taste was pleasing. I must admit that my favorite is Chicago deep dish pizza, sorry Detroit fans. Saturday night around 6:00 was packed! Had a large reservation for a birthday dinner and the table was ready to go. Our server, Hope, was great! We got everyone fed and out in just over an hour. I split a BBQ Conant 4 square (yay to all corners!) with my husband. I could have eaten more than 2 but it was great because we were getting movie popcorn after. Ordered takeout, process was easy online and order was ready when I arrived but this location seemed short staffed or were busy with other guests so I ended up waiting 10 or so minutes to actually be handed the orders. Understandably, it was a Saturday night so they likely were busy. Their pizza was good for a chain, it is all Detroit style. Toppings were generous. I also really liked the fried vegetable appetizer. 6 of us came in on Saturday 12/28/24 around 4:45pm. It was a little busy, but not packed. We were sat right away and Sara took great care of us. She was AMAZING! We had a Sicilian 4 square, Detroiter 4 square and a Motown Museum 4 square. All of those pizzas were SO good! The crust is crispy on the edges and there are lots of toppings. In Grand Rapids for a stop over on a recent trip, like to stay at the Drury on 28th street. I usually make a point to walk down the street and find a new place to eat. So this time, walked to good ol' Buddy's. Soooo good! The pizza here is absolutely delicious. I can't get enough of their sauce. I got both a four corner, and round, and both were outstanding! Our waiter Anderson rocked it, as well, kept our water cups full and checked on us often. Thanks Anderson. I downloaded the Buddy's Pizza app and got a free pizza, so Nate and I stopped in recently to grab some food. The restaurant was pretty busy but we got a high top table near the bar. The offer in the app was good for a 1 topping 4 corner pizza, and we ordered a side of Buddy sticks and an "individual" serving Caesar salad. The menu states that a "medium" salad serves 3-5 people, so we figured (correctly) that the individual size would be fine for the two of us to share with our other food. We arrived around 7:30 and Buddy's has an evening happy hour that starts at 8 pm, so Nate held off on ordering a beer... more on this later. The breadsticks and salad came out first. The breadsticks were hot and fresh, and a decent portion. I found them to be okay, they were a little doughy. The salad was kind of disappointing - it was fresh but was pretty underdressed, which was weird to me, as I feel like most places use way too much dressing. I got my greens in for the day, though. The portion was definitely perfect for the two of us to share. The pizza came out and I was a little surprised at how short it was - I'm used to Jet's pizza which is quite a bit taller. However, I really liked the crust to topping ratio with the thinner crust. The cheese was so melty and delicious, and the sauce was tangy and not super sweet. The crust was crisp and held up to the gooey cheese. I still think Buddy's pizza is way better than Jet's! The other items were less impressive, but you can't beat a free pizza. Nate did end up ordering his beer after 8 pm, which our server forgot about for a bit, but we weren't in a big rush. When the bill arrived, we noticed that it wasn't the discounted happy hour price, but we thought probably the free pizza was meant to be the only discount per bill. Either way, it wasn't a big deal, but something to keep in mind or ask about if you're there during happy hour and getting a free pizza. The toppings and sauce seemed dumped on the pizza in such a way that some slices barely had any. Plus, the toppings were sparse-perhaps cut too small/thinly? The slices were also cut very unevenly, making it a little difficult to divide slices between 4 adults. However, everything was very good. I actually have seen Buddy Pizza I believe on an episode of Food Paradise, so when my cousin was telling me about going to one for lunch before heading back home to Milwaukee I was pretty stoked. I have had Detroit style deep dish many times, but this is the first time ever having it with the sauce on top. I went with the Hawaiian but instead of bbq sauce I went with the red sauce, my cousin I believe the Mediterranean along with an order of buddy bread to split and a glass of whiplash red blend. Nice little bite size pieces of garlic bread but didn't want to fill in on the bread before the pizza. The pizza was good going into it but by the 3rd piece I decided to box it with the other piece with some garlic bread. The sauce has a little tang to it which wasn't bad, but because of the acidity I could only finish half my pizza. I will say it was a nice little lunch for the next day when I was back in town and heats up well in the oven. I would come back again, but I would try one of their classic pastas or if I have the pizza again I know what my limit is lol. read more

Classic pepperoni Hawaiian Kids mac n cheese :) I wasn't a huge fan of the pepperoni - the cheese was meh and the crust wasn't anything special. It was pretty thin and didn't have any crunch to it at all. The flavor was decent and complex, I could definitely taste that they seasoned the sauce a bit more than other places. The cheese was pretty standard and tasted like something you'd find on a frozen pizza. The Hawaiian pizza was much better, though the crust and cheese had the same problems. It had this really really tasty bbq sauce on it which carried hard. I didn't really notice the pineapple or ham at all which was incredibly disappointing. Overall I'd say this place is on the level of Little Cesar's. For 3x the price. Hard pass, wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Get Jets instead if you're craving square pizza. read more

Buddy's Pizza is the Grand Rapids location of the famous Detroit-style pizzeria from the 313. They sell pizza square pies in two sizes. For those unfamiliar with the style, the pizza sauce is on the top with the cheese and toppings under it. In terms of taste, wow. It's so good. Not only the flavors, but also the crust is perfectly cooked and a balance of crunchy and moist. So good. However, the service is as bad as the pizza is good. I placed my order online and called right after I placed it asking to change the time to later (there wasn't an intuitive option for that online). The woman on the other end angerly said, "Now we have to take out of the pizza" and abruptly hung up. I called back to confirm they could change the pick up time. Once I arrived, there was a long line of angry customers waiting for their pizzas. Each customer's pizza was 15-20 minutes delayed. When mine came out, a pie was missing, which took an additional ten minutes to find/make. The pizza was so good, it was worth it, but be warned about the crummy service. read more

Best pizza I've ever had, possibly--highly recommend the Detroiter (per recommendation of our host). In town for vacation, and stopped in simply because it was conveniently located between the airport and hotel (was hungry when we got into town). Wasn't sure what Detroit style pizza was/meant...but now I know what I've been missing, pure yumminess. Was stuffed to the max when I left...but after it digested I was left craving more...so I googled if there was a Buddy's in my state (sadly, No), and further tried to research if any restaurant in my town at least made Detroit style pizza, since I now knew that was a thing. Food was great, but so was the staff. The host gave us a little history, which was interesting, and recommended the Detroiter since it was our first time (good call, it was delish). Our waitress was also super helpful, I'm glad she told us 2 squares per person would be adequate (initially we wondered if a "4-square" was a personal portion)--we also got Buddy Bread, which I highly recommend. And got the BBQ chicken Detroit style pizza (got a couple of the 4-square pizzas for our table to try multiple options while we were there)--was definitely good, but I like the Detroiter better. I've had multiple pleasant experiences at this location and am a big fan of their wings and pizza. Most have been carry-outs, but our one time dining in was relaxing with quick service. This time we tried their mac and cheese as well, which was average for me. I've knocked some stars off because it appears the mac and cheese was baked in (or at least heated up) with a plastic bag. While mistakes happen, there should be more attentiveness to ensure better food quality and the consumer's safety. Our family grew up on Buddy's pizza in the Detroit area. Detroit style pizza is our favorite kind of pizza. When Buddy's opened a GR location we were all thrilled. However, the quality has been hit or miss. Most recently miss. Today while scrolling social media I got a promo code to buy one 8 corner, get one 1/2 off. So we decided to give Buddy's another try. We ordered two 2 item 8 corner pizzas, original sauce, reg cheese mix. This would have been about $60 but the coupon would make it $45ish. First of all their website would not accept the code so I called it in. 5p on a Wednesday. The person on the phone said 25 minutes. We got the pizzas and brought them home 2.6 miles. Pizzas were cold so we put them in the oven at 275 for about 10 minutes. Unfortunately both pizzas dough was nearly raw - even after our cooking them longer. Both also had skimpy toppings - one was old world pepperoni and sausage and it was difficult to find any sausage. The flavor was right unfortunately for $50 including a tip 2 nearly raw pizzas were disappointing. We have been going to Quarantinos in Eastown more and more because Buddys just ain't what it used to be :( read more

Being from the south (even trying chicago style AND New York style pizza) I'd never seen toppings then sauce but let me tell you, for those of us who aren't there for the sauce and don't need it drowning in marinara..
