Oksana, our waitress, is absolutely wonderful and honestly one of the main reasons we enjoy coming back to BJ's. She is always fast, attentive, very knowledgeable about the menu, and great at recommending food and drinks based on what you like. She does her job exceptionally well, and I really hope the management recognizes and rewards her for that. We come here pretty often, usually at least twice a month with our employees. The menu is excellent, there's a great variety of food, and the beer selection is also really good. The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed, and welcoming, which makes it a really pleasant place to come back to. The only thing I don't understand is the seating policy. On our last visit, we arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation, and several tables were clearly empty. We still had to wait until the exact reservation time, even though the table we were eventually seated at had been empty the whole time. I'm not sure why guests can't be seated a little earlier when tables are available. read more

Worst service of any restaurant I've ever been to. It wasn't even packed. Was seated right away. We noticed 4 tables near us where people left and weren't bussed. Server came practically right away and asked for our order. Who does this? Asked for water to start and we were looking at drinks. 15 minutes go by and 3 separate times, the server says water is coming and circling around our table not doing anything. But he'll be right back. What's so difficult about water? Finally get water and order. We notice everyone already has their food but 1 table. Another 15 minutes goes by and we finally get our 2 beers. BEERS. Dude says he's going home and someone else is going to help us. Ok?? The tables near us still aren't bussed. A couple walks in and is about to get seated at one of those tables then, UH OH, they are dirty and needs to find some table across the entire restaurant because no one can be bothered with cleaning a table. 4 other tables have left by now with all their plates piled on the table. No sign of bussing. Food comes 40 minutes after ordering. Tables still aren't bussed. Same server walking around in circles that claimed he was going home. After about halfway done with our meal he walks over again stares at us, walks passed, then asks how the food is while behind me. What the actual hell? Not only this but I told the waiting staff I was EXTREMELY hungry. It's a good thing I left and came to a real restaurant, who took less than 5 minutes to serve me lettuce. On. A. Plate. Had lunch here on the weekend and it was not busy at all. We arrive at 11:30 am and had to wait a bit to be seated. This seems to be a consistent issue with this location - waiting to be seated even if the place is empty. Luckily, we got a very nice server. She was friendly and introduced herself by name, and provided good service at the beginning. When we were ready to check out, we couldn't find her but I guess it's not needed as we can now self-checkout using the QR code at the table. I order the soup and salad combo for $14.49. I thought it would come in a bread bowl and was disappointed when it didn't. I supposed I didn't read closely enough. Either way, my broccoli cheddar soup was fresh and the cheese goey. My salad was also very good, with the ingredients tasting fine and not days old. The $14.49 deal is decent for portions you get, especially if you combine it with a bday pizookie reward! Unfortunately, the bathroom remains gross and smelly. There are fallen mops and other things scattered on the floor and everything is sticky for some reason. Haven't been to this bjs in years! We came at 11pm and were able to check out their late night hh. To my surprise the bar was 80% packed. You seat yourself at the bar and wait for a server to come. My kid got the endless soup and salad and it came with a mini pizooki all for $13. Great deal imo. The cheddar broccoli soup was not our favorite though. I'd definitely pass on that. I got the sliders, the buns were nice and pillowy soft just wished they added a sauce to the burgers otherwise that would've been great. It's worth checking out if you're in the area but no need to go out of your way either. read more

Been here plenty times, my personal favorite is their jambalaya. Has a bit of spice to it but lots of flavor! Their pizookies are the perfect end to a savory meal as well! We haven't been able to get good seats though, always at the bar top/tables even when we come late and the entire restaurant is empty. They seem to use the booths for reservations on the bottom and the bar section as we've never been able to sit there. read more

Our waiter, Mark, was so kind and attentive -- he stayed on top of everything throughout the meal and made us feel very welcome. At the end of dinner, he surprised us with a birthday Pizookie, which was such a thoughtful touch. For food, we ordered the Parmesan Crusted Chicken with mashed potatoes, and it was absolutely delicious. We also had a cheeseburger, which was really good too. One star is too generous. I rarely write reviews but after my recent experience, I feel compelled to write this one. I am disgusted with the service and management at this establishment. After a previous experience with slow service, this visit was the final straw. Not only is the service ridiculously slow (45 minutes for dessert), but the staff is unprofessional and disorganized. Your staff told me that Nick was the manager on duty and that the staff member wearing a baseball cap at the time was Roel. Roel treated me with total disrespect. When I was sitting alone with my toddler in my lap, Roel spoke to me disrespectfully and demanded a different form of payment when they couldn't run a gift card. The fact that he was polite to my husband but rude to me is unacceptable and suggests a serious issue with bias in your staffing. To make matters worse, this gift card issue was the waiter's fault! He ran the credit card before the gift card, which probably blocked the gift card from working! This took another 20 minutes to resolve for such a simple matter. Between the excessive wait, poor communication, payment mishandling, and disrespectful treatment, this was an extremely frustrating experience. Management should seriously address both the staff's professionalism and the way customers are treated. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this establishment. read more

FINALLY got to come to try a pizookie (and honestly got to try a loooott of everything else hahaha). I was running a little bit late, so I don't know what everyone ordered but " we basically got one of everything" so that sounded comprehensive. I always expected this place to be more mediocre quality because it's a chain - but I was pleasantly surprised that most of the food was pretty good (for a chain). combine with late hours BJ's is a super choice for late night munchies or post-concert grub. My favorite were the sliders, but honestly would get the appetizer spread again with friends. The Pazooki part, however, wasn't as stellar as my friends were hoping because allegedly the cookies and cream version wasn't as good. My take is that it was wayyyyy smaller than I expected (how it feels like to be a woman lol jk). I'd come back for the late night hours (especially with Chili's closing at 10pm) - so it's great to have this option in the Peninsula. read more

While the food is fairly average here, BJ does offer decent value if you take advantage of the Happy Hour and Specials at the Bar. During Happy Hour, they offer reasonably priced drinks and food. Where else can you get a beer for $5 these days? While the $6 Margarita does seem like a steal, it's fairly weak in alcohol and tastes like a spiked lemonade so I would stick with the beers. As for food, a popular item is the Personal Pizza with Pepperoni for $7. We took advantage of the Friday and Weekend Special Prime Rib dinner for around $34 which in my opinion is a big enough meal to be shared with two people. The slice of prime rib is ok and is tender, albeit a little salty, and is not a terribly large slice; however, the special does come with a side salad, two additional sides, and a dessert choice which makes it a complete meal. I really enjoyed the garlic roasted vegetables. The fries were crispy and not limp. The cookie dessert was a huge portion with a BIG scoop of ice cream. read more

"I got you!" he said, and no matter what happens to the mall or this restaurant, that will leave a positive lasting impression for the brand and the waiter if we see him elsewhere. We have been here over the decades for the famed, legendary pazookie and ice cream. We were still in high school too! It is famous for all ages. It is good to know they will survive somewhere. i will go to my grave arguing for the greatness of BJ's. any hate has to be forced. pizookies are simply one of mankind's greatest achievements. the craft sodas are like no other, especially the cream soda and rootbeer. and it is hard to go wrong with any one of their craft beers. the happy hour is spectacular, and by far beats out the other restaurant chains like applebee's and chili's. the only qualm is service, which is more than often subpar and inexperienced. but this will always be drowned out by the consistent quality of the food and beverage. read more

I don't have a ton of positive things to say about Tanforan these days but the BJ's here remains as solid as ever and a place of nostalgia for me dating back to college. The food is as good as it usually is, probably better than the BJ's local to me on the other side of the bay in Brentwood. I'm also glad that they still have that meal deal that includes the mini Pizookie at the end. As long as BJ's keeps that, they'll continue to consistently have my business. The salad with the mozzarella balls, tomatoes, arugula, and balsamic dressing is just delicious. Probably my favorite light salad of all time. The chili is also hearty and solid. I just like it, man. If I wanted to whine about something, customer service can be more attentive. We found ourselves missing utensils or not having enough plates. Not a big deal, just saying. I also found it weird that the wait for a table in an empty restaurant was a half hour and when it was time to be seated, we were taken to a booth that very clearly wouldn't fit all of us. Walked into BJ's at Tanforan and waited 10-15 minutes in the lobby. No greeting. No "Hi, we'll be with you shortly." Not even a confused head nod. Just us standing there wondering if we had accidentally walked into a restaurant after hours. Then a DoorDash driver walks in and suddenly--POOF!--a worker magically appears from the shadows with the order. So naturally, I get up and ask where we're supposed to sit. He proceeds to walk straight to the back like I had just asked him for the secret recipe to the Pizookie. My husband even said, "Excuse me," and he just kept walking. Never came back. Then we watched another server walk right past us. Finally, a worker who I had seen sitting at a table in the back started clocking in. I asked, "Excuse me, is the dining room closed?" She rudely responded that it was closed and that open seating in the bar was available. I said, "Ohhh... someone probably should have told us that since we've been standing here waiting." Her response? "I just got here. I start at 4." And I get that. But if you're walking into a shift, surely someone can pass along the extremely important information that THE DINING ROOM IS CLOSED so customers aren't standing around looking lost. At that point, my family and I just turned around and left. That Pizookie sounded DELICIOUS... but apparently not delicious enough to complete a side quest just to find a place to sit. I was followed outside to my car by a bartender who accused me of not paying my bill. I walked up to them, showing them the receipt and explaining how the poor reception didn't allow me to pay inside. They walked away without saying anything. I also let them know how I noticed that they cut off a group of Hispanics all because they were being a little rowdy. They lied to them and claimed to have spoken to the manager and cut them off. I'm not sure why but this location gets worse and worse. My family and I had to wait for over an hour for our food. Our original waitress stopped being our waitress and we got a new one. The poor woman was serving the whole section by herself which gave us the impression this BJ's was understaffed. Once our food arrived my medium rare rib eye was actually medium well but our food was delicious even if it arrived just as we were planning to pay up for our drinks and leave. I came for happy hour with a coworker, and it also happened to be some game night so the bar area was busy. Luckily, I was able to secure a table on the side. I ordered an individual size deep dish followed by the pizookie. Maybe it was the nostalgia, but I remember the pizza and pizookie being better than my meal. Visited the San Bruno BJ's a few hours ago. Restaurant was very empty. We were taken to a small table for two, somewhat removed from any other customers but in the open and visible. It took at least 20 minutes for the first waiter to approach our table. He apologized for the delay saying while he was not our waiter he'd noticed us looking for service. I'd started waving my two hands over my head to draw attention and my son walked o er to talk to the hostess. Anyway the first waiter took our order for food and drinks and promptly delivered drinks to us saying another waiter would be serving us and would bring our food. Well after another 15 minutes no food had arrived, I'd finished one beer and now my son was saying let's just leave. A second waiter came by asking us what we'd like to order I explained we'd already placed our order but the salad had not been delivered yet. He apologized and went away. I asked to speak to the manager, a lovely young many. Friendly, polite and pleasant. He could think of no reason for what had gone wrong. I told him I had seen him walk from the kitchen a number of times delivering food but he never once looked in our direction. Our food had arrived while he was talking to us. It was decent. Now 54 years ago I worked in a very successful bar, in Toronto, as a waiter. At the start of every shift there was a huddle called by the manager and he repeated the same thing every time. Heads on a swivel look at the people at every table you pass in case they need something. And sell sell sell, if a beer glass is empty offer another one, if they've finished dinner offer dessert, if they've ordered dessert offer a coffee or a nightcap. Sell sell sell. I don't know if BJ's is a franchise or corporate owned. But I visited the men's room on the way out and their future was apparent. Both urinals were covered by plastic. This place is on the way out of business, in my opinion. Now the very nice manager gave us our salads for free, we paid only for the beer. That was a classy move. ( He never said or told us he was doing that ). A really nice gesture. For his sake I hope they can turn around the service here. read more

The only downside is the craft beer option; there aren't many to choose from compared to others. The BJ's in Roseville, CA is a better restaurant, but the service is about the same. read more

Came here for Dinner cause our main purpose was to have dessert, the Spookie Pizookie (Halloween) after our meal. Started off w/apps the Brew house sampler, which was delicious. (FYI, its only available for a limited time, I soo recommend!) It consists of wings (regular or boneless) & choices of Buffalo&BBQ, i chose regular Buffalo. It also includes mozzarella sticks, sliders and chips & dip, i chose spinach artichoke (guac was also a choice). Downgraded to two stars from three. I like the people that work here. The issue might be with their computers/management. My order was pasta and pizza family meal $45 and a prime rib dinner $38. Here are my issues today: It took an hour for my order to be ready. Half the food was cold. Caesar salad had no dressing. Prime rib tasted rubbery. No au jus or horseradish were included. Pasta was dry. The food that tasted OK were the clam chowder, mash potatoes and pizookie. The rest is subpar. I'm not driving back to pick up the missing items like last time. Skip this BJ's location and go to the San Mateo one instead. That one is much better. read more

The portions were expected, but didn't feel like they lived up to the price. Three entrees took quite a while to get to us. It was dinner time on a Tuesday. The dessert was delicious. After a round of golf, we decided that a pizzokie was in order, so we headed down to Tanforan and went to BJ's for the first time in a long time. We got there around 4pm and it was prime rib night, so I knew I had to give it a try. For like $35 you get a 12oz prime rib, sides, soup, and a pizzokie. Honestly a really good deal for the price. Taste however left a bit to be desired. Started off the meal with their avocado egg rolls. I couldn't tell if it was undercooked but the consistency was mushy and didn't have much flavor. For my soup I got the broccoli cheddar, it while good, it had more of the consistency of queso than soup. For the prime rib, I was decently surprised on how it tasted for the price. The crust was quite tasty, the meat itself a little chewy but still passable. It's not the best prime rib I've ever had but it did what it needed to do. If it had some real horseradish and more salt, it could be better for me. The horseradish had no flavor to it unfortunately. Rice Pilaf and broccoli on the side were solid side choices. For drinks, they had some $6 cocktails on the regular menu so when we tried to order them, we were told they didn't have the ingredients. Ended up just sticking with waters. The pizzokie capped off our meal, we got the cookies and cream one, solid as always, and we finished this up no problem. read more

Hadn't been to BJ's in a few years and randomly had an urge/craving for a Pizookie. Ended up doing an entire order via the Uber Eats app. BIG MISTAKE and a disgrace to what I remember from the past. 1) The lack of the Fried Wisconsin Cheese Curds was disappointing. 2) Ordered a large of the multi-meat and it was DRY. Almost no sauce at all. The crust was hard as a rock and the bottom was mushy. NOTHING AT ALL like what I remember. I remember it used to be served in a cast iron pan with nice fluffy crust. 3) Also ordered an order of the Couscous Mac and Cheese Balls. They were good taste wise. BUT the picture made them look bigger than the size of a small meatball. Especially shocking when paired with the price tag that it came with. 4) Ordered 3 pizookies (one free due to an Uber Eats deal) and they arrived shriveled, much smaller than in store, and they were mangled around the edges to the point where one of them looked pinched down the middle. VERY DISAPPOINTING and even more so when the cost for the food itself (before the delivery and other fees) $79.47. $79.47 for a pizza, 2 pizookies, and a side of 8 mac and cheese balls that were cumulatively the size of 3 golf balls. I've been coming here regularly for 18 years. I'm not sure what that says about me or the place, but it feels meaningful. Over that time, people--both customers and staff--have come and gone, the menu has shifted while always staying rooted in pizza, and the mall around it has slowly faded. Through all those changes, BJ's Tanforan has remained a constant--an anchor for a lot of people, and a familiar presence through nearly two decades of life unfolding.
