Doing an update for this location since it's been 5+ years since my last visit / review. One thing that hasn't changed, was the smoke and overwhelmingly mouthwatering smell of fresh grilled burgers permeating throughout the entire corner of the shopping center. While most other things are the same, there are some differences. As many places have, they've geared more towards the self-service kiosk approach to ordering. As soon as you enter, there are two kiosks to the left, then one more to the right on the counter instead of one of the registers. They still have a place where you can order from a human being if you prefer that (or like me, have customizations that can't be accommodated via the kiosk)...lol. All jokes aside, I ended up having to order through a person. It's not my fault though, they're promoting this delicious looking new toasted Parmesan-crusted sourdough, but only on a Chicken Club sandwich. Being that we hadn't been to Habit in a while, we were craving a burger specifically. After having to bring a manager over to approve the request and figure out how to enter it into the system, we were able to get the special new bread on our Double Char and Santa Barbara Char for an additional charge of ~$1 each (WORTH IT!). The other new items that came (I assume) around the same time as the Parmesan bread, are Garlic Parmesan Fries, and a Garlic Parmesan Ranch. Both the fries and the ranch were surprisingly good. The fries were a little oily/greasy, but the flavor on them was very rich. The Parm ranch was bold and flavorful, and honestly paired well with everything. By everything, I mean the fries, onion rings, tempura green beans, sweet potato fries, and most especially poured on my Santa Barbara Char. It also paired perfectly with the new bread, and made each bite one of the best I've had in recent history. Another big difference is that they now charge for all sauces (aside from ketchup & hot sauce). Back when we were coming here more regularly, ranch was free. You would just ask them at the counter, and they'd give you one, or a few, at no charge. While they do have a solid sauce selection (BBQ, sweet mustard, teriyaki, ranch, spicy ranch, avocado ranch, and the new garlic parm ranch), they charge $0.60 each. They still have Pepsi products at the fountain, in addition to unsweetened regular and tropical iced tea, and both fresh strawberry and cucumber limeades. Two public, gender neutral bathrooms are in the back with no passcode. It was steadily busy on a Saturday evening around 5:30pm. Most of the tables were full, but there was some turnover with people finishing and leaving and lots of to-go orders. Staff on the job today. They were hopping with lots of customers at dinner time. I saw boxes of char family packs being picked up. I came in for 3 char burgers with cheese. I was so hungry, I consumed mine in the car before we got home. While I waited for the order, I watched staff work hard and quickly getting the orders out without losing a beat. The supervisor in charge had everything under control while he worked the register and packed the orders into bags or boxes. I had other foods at home to eat, or I would have bought an order of the tempura green beans, onion rings and maybe fries. Came here on during post lunch rush on a Sunday with my family. We decided to do the Build Your Own Family CharBox with a Charburger with cheese, a Teriyaki Char, and 2 Portabella Char's. When they first opened in 2015, I swore never to come back after they made me wait 45 minutes for a cheese burger. There was a 10 minute wait tonight at 9:30pm. That is acceptable. The Gotta Habit $8 meal was decent. It was half of a chicken club sandwich, tempura green beans and a drink. The two unsweetened ice-teas were not available. They are supposed to close at 10:30pm. The staff has already put the chairs above the tables at 10pm not letting customers sit at tables. Some booths were available. The online ordering system was having payment issues so I went in person to order on a kiosk. The kiosk was also struggling to scan my barcode. You can expect the standard habit experience. The food was good and tasted as expected and consistent. Everyone finished their burger: double char with cheese , portobello char, and terriyaki char with cheese. The onions rings were nicely fried, crispy on the outside, soft onion on the inside. The sweet potato fries were also a big hit. I wasn't too impressed by their sweet mustard or avocado ranch sauces. This was my first time trying Habit Burger & Grill, and I'd been craving burgers all week. The place has lots of parking and plenty of seating both inside and outside, which was great. Everything looked clean, and I really liked their drink bar options--fountain sodas, iced teas, and even handmade juices. I ordered their regular charburger with cheese, which came out to just over $7 with tax. That felt a bit pricey for a single patty burger, but the photos on their website made it look like it would be a good-sized, juicy burger. It was busy when I went, and I could tell the staff was working hard to get all the orders out on time. Unfortunately, the burger didn't live up to the hype. The patty was super thin, honestly not much different than a McDonald's cheeseburger patty size. It felt like I was mostly eating lettuce, with the beef acting more like a topping. The patty was a bit dry and not very flavorful, which was a letdown considering the price and how it was advertised. I'm glad I didn't order more from the menu because I might have been even more disappointed. The photos they use online and in-store definitely set higher expectations. I get the feeling that a lot of people come here more for the sides and drinks than the burgers themselves. I've fallen in love with... a burger. It is everything I want in a burger and more. What would make it even better is if i add bacon (and that's an option!) Quick service but no drive-thru but they have mobile order so they get a pass. I have not sit down to eat here, always to go each time. This is one of the cleaner locations I've visited, and I really appreciate how organized everything is here. It definitely makes for a more enjoyable dining experience. To the manager at tonight's shift: Wed. 03/27/24 around 730-830pm. It is disappointing to even have to write this, but you were absolutely useless! So since you wouldn't help me, I shall warn others. I also contacted Habit's Customer Service Dept. There was a line and since I wanted to take my time looking over the menu, I decided to use the kiosk for the first time. Never again. Why? Because ordering salads means dressing will be drenched over it even when ordering to go. There was no option to select "on the side" so I assumed that ordering to-go implied that but it did not. Sadly, the person I ordered this for wanted it for lunch tomorrow. When I asked said manager if he could make one with dressing on the side, he looked at me crazy, grabbed the receipt, and pointed at the dressing saying it did not say that. I was calm. I told him it just said the dressing type. But he could care less and proceeded to get back to preparing orders. Probably all wrong! Shocked, I commented at his terrible service. I ordered other things, but only wanted this redone. I didn't blame anyone, but knew a soggy salad would go to waste. But he did nothing. I went home and started separating the salad to salvage what I could. Just awful all around. I like this place for the most part. I just have one complaint to make. The music they play gets worse and worse every time I go. The crowd here is fairly old. We do not want to hear crappy alternative rock music. We want to hear oldies from the 60s and 70s when popular music was still good. R&B songs from that era are also great. I don't come here to this location specifically that often, but if I'm out shopping or in the area and need some lunch, this will always be a place in my mind. I actually go to the Habit location in Millbrae very frequently. But if I'm around the area, I usually order either a Charburger or BBQ bacon Charburger with fries. I was disappointed with the chicken club on my most recent visit. I've had this sandwich multiple times and when done right, it's delicious and satisfying. Based on the advertising (see photo), avocado is a major ingredient in this sandwich. The sandwich i received however was lacking in avocado and other ingredients (see photos) and didn't quite live up to it's price. Not sure what we expected but it was great. Burgers which you can get with "grilled cheese style" bun. Meaning hella buttered sliced toasted sourdough. They don't force you to get them well done either. Power tip: the fries aren't bad but the onion rings are great. Especially if you eat them in the first couple minutes! Been here for 23 minutes still nothing. But what I really came on here for is the customer service. I've been here several times but this is my last time. The guy that is the counter person (he's the only one that wears a red shirt) is so freaking rude. He has absolutely no personality. No eye contact. He wants you to use the kiosk but nope, not me.
