Update: After my last review, I wasn't gonna give up on these guys! I was in the area with my girlfriend and she was in a mood for a hamburger. We were about half a mile away, so I headed back to Super Duper. This time it was a totally different experience. We showed up around 3 PM and this place was jam-packed. It took me about five minutes to get to a monitor and I placed my order. This time, all three of the employees behind the counter were helping customers and doing it in an energetic and friendly way and again, I got our burgers and fries in a timely manner. My favorite burger place in D.C. if I have a choice is at Super Duper Burgers. This has been my go to place for the most satisfying burger near our area. Once you bite into their burger, which I will describe as one very juicy and authentic tasting beef burger. Some say it's very oily, but to me it's juicy because of the added cheddar cheese which melts in between the beef patties, so you'll need extra napkins/tissue papers to eat this. Their super burger is quite big that you can get two servings out of ordering just one, or you can have their mini burger. The fries are cooked just right, they have the regular, garlic fries with cheddar or jalapeño cheddar fries. I like that they don't put too much garlic so that it does not over power the taste of the fries. And their shakes are not too sweet. The cookies and cream shakes is my favorite. They also have seasonal shakes which I will try next time I have a craving for a burger. I like that they provide homemade crunchy dill pickles if you prefer it with your burger. As for drinks, I prefer their lemonade. My experience with their service is that the workers there are always nice, friendly and polite. From the time you place your order to the time you get your food. The service is quick and not chaotic. The place is always nice, clean and very organized. The food here was so good. The last time I went here was at the downtown location about 6 yrs ago. This location is great because there's ample parking. We ordered mini burgers with cheddar cheese and the super burgers with cheddar cheese, garlic fries, swirl shake and swirl soft serve. The mini burger had 1 quarter lb patty vs the super burger had 2 quarter lb patties. The burgers were so juicy, the lettuce and tomato's were fresh, loved the grilled onions too. Even though my experiences here have been a little mixed, don't get confused - I LOVE Super Duper. Other than one truly disappointing visit I made to their spot in the Marina over a decade ago, the rest of my experiences have ranged from pretty good to down right awesome. However, I have to admit that our most recent visit to this particular location now makes it two times that I've been let down. Compared to the Super Duper locations that I've been to in SF (SoMa, FiDi, Marina, and Laurel Village), this one lacks that neighborhood feel to it, but it makes sense given how it's located at Serramonte. That said, with its two long high-top tables, handful of booths, two-tops, and outdoor patio area, this one offers way more seating whether it be for groups large or small. Similarly, the menu not only offers all of Super Duper's usual offerings (burgers, fries, salads, breakfast sandwich, shakes, and soft serve), but it also has featured/seasonal specials as well as the fried chicken sandwiches and tenders from their sister eatery in SF, the Bird. -- TRUFFLE BURGER - Urbani Truffle Butter, Grilled Onions, Portobello Mushrooms, Monterey Jack Cheese, and Super Sauce...$12.50 (Single Patty) Sadly, the taste of the truffle butter wasn't that strong (though, this still felt luscious), but I really liked how well the grilled onions, cheese, and mushrooms worked together. So, as underwhelming as this was as a "truffle burger", this was great as a "mushroom burger". -- GARLIC FRIES Topped with Parmesan Cheese...$4.75 From past experiences, I know this can be hit or miss depending on how garlicky it is and, unfortunately, this was light on garlic. Still, everything else about this was pretty solid. The fries themselves were cooked well and I loved how this was LOADED with Parmesan. -- MINI BURGER with Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onions, Jack Cheese (+$.75), and Bacon (+$1.50)...$7.50 Not as good as other times I've had it, but still not bad. The veggies were fresh and the bun was soft, but the patty didn't feel as juicy this time and didn't have that bit of char either. Also, the bacon was really thin and while the jack cheese was gooey, their cheddar is way better. -- CLASSIC FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH (from the Bird)...$10.75 WTF was this? The one I had at the Bird in SoMa was great; this was not. While we both thought the bun and slaw were fine, the fried chicken was terrible - the batter wasn't crispy (part of it felt almost rubbery/spongy) and the chicken had a sort of stringy texture to it. Despite how convenient this Super Duper may be, especially whenever I'm out this way to do shopping (there's tons of parking), I don't know if/when I would come back again. I certainly won't be getting the fried chicken sandwich again if I do (and perhaps anywhere else), but even the Mini Burger wasn't as satisfying as usual. Given how well all of my past visits have gone, I might just stick to my usual go-to Super Duper in Laurel Village, though I'd still like to check out their recently opened spot in the Inner Sunset. The food at Super Duper always tastes good. However, their pricing right now is incredibly misleading. The big overhead menu board explicitly states that adding cheddar or jack cheese is $0.75. But when you get to the actual ordering kiosk screen, they charge $1.50. When I asked about it, they just said they haven't changed the board yet. We came in on a rainy night for some takeout because I have been curious about the truffle burger combo. The place wasn't too busy. However, we did have to wait a bit and luckily, there were seats for us to sit down. We grabbed some garlic fries and they smelled amazing. This is a favorite whenever coming to Super Duper despite them being so greasy that it will definitely go through the takeout bag. But when I opened the bag at home, I was surprised to see they didn't even reach the top of the container... they definitely skimped. When I bit into the truffle burger, it was raw... Which is really unfortunate because the truffle flavor, cheese and mushrooms were good. Thankfully, the other two burgers were veggie so they didn't have the same issue. But they had nothing to say on the taste. The lettuce looked fresh, at least. The drinks were decent. The strawberry lemonade wasn't sweet and very tart. The root beer fountain drink had plenty of spirit. The chocolate malt shake was ok (pay extra for the malt, but didn't really taste it until the milkshake was almost gone).The strawberry milkshake did not disappoint! It is so delicious and the kids size is the perfect portion. Considering how much we paid, I expected the order to be better. In this economy, I do not think I would order here again anytime soon. I contacted customer service, explained the issue, and provided the details, but they did not resolve it or refund me for the two missing orders of fries. This was a very disappointing experience. Mistakes can happen, but I expected better customer support and a fair resolution. Unfortunately, I did not receive either the missing items or a refund. This is my favorite Super Duper location. I didn't realize how clean it was until I visited their Irving St. location. Lunch today was a super duper burger w/egg, jack cheese $13.50 and garlic fries $4.75. Both were OK. Garlic fries needed more garlic. The burger was juicy. Filled with some greasy goodness. Previously, you can add an extra slice of tomato or more lettuce/onions. That option is now gone from the terminal. The default amount of lettuce, tomato and onions is anemic. I am always blown away by how good the burgers are here. It looks like a pretty normal burger joint--albeit with particularly nice branding and very clean--but the food is top-notch. I suspect part of it is the limited menu, 'cause everything we've had (varietals of burger and chicken sandwiches, plus every side) is done exceptionally well. And it even holds up as takeout! I've tried super duper at multiple locations many times hoping that I will like it but unfortunately this chain is just not for me. Today, I ordered their hamburger, fried chicken sandwich and French fries. Hamburger tasted great but it's on the greasy side. My stomach gets upset after eating it. The fried chicken sandwich paired well with the slaw however the chicken is not crispy at all. I relooked at the menu and realized it didn't say crispy fried chicken sandwich so I guess I should have assumed it would be crispy. My French fries were limp Even though the food isn't for me, I would say this establishment is very clean. There are workers on the floor cleaning tables and counter tops constantly. This location has, without a doubt, some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. The staff seem bothered by customers and act as though doing the bare minimum is too much effort. The napkin station was empty, and even asking for napkins felt like an inconvenience. I ordered the Poblano Burger and needed the garlic aioli removed because I am pregnant and cannot tolerate garlic. The ordering system would not allow the modification, so I politely asked the cashier for assistance. Instead of trying to help, she turned around, whispered something to the cooks, then immediately responded, "Yep, can't make that modification." Refusing to remove a single ingredient from a burger is ridiculous and demonstrates a complete lack of customer service. To make matters worse, I ordered an ice cream for my daughter and paid extra for the chocolate topping. The employee preparing it put on such a tiny amount that it was honestly insulting. Charging customers for extras and then giving the absolute minimum possible is a perfect example of the overall attitude at this location. The employees were unfriendly, unhelpful, and appeared completely uninterested in providing even basic customer service. Every interaction felt like I was inconveniencing them simply by placing an order. If management is wondering why customers don't return, they should start by looking at the attitude and effort of the staff working here. Never in my life have I had such a transcendent experience with a burger. Every single time I come here I order the veggie burger + avocado, and every single time I wish I had ordered 2. The patty just melts so beautifully in my mouth and leaves me longing for just one more bite. The flavors just burst so spectacularly on my tongue and satisfy me in a way that no other burger could.
