Stopped by BJ's in Wallingford to pick up groceries and household items using the curbside pickup option, and it was a very convenient experience. I love shopping at BJ's because buying in bulk helps my purchases last a couple of months, which is great for staying stocked up. The gas savings and rewards benefits are also a big plus and make the membership worthwhile. Today was extremely busy, but the plaza is shared with IHOP so there is plenty of parking available, including handicap-accessible spaces and parking for parents with babies, which makes visits easier for families. I didn't go inside the store this time since I used curbside pickup. The process was very easy to do online, and as a mom it really simplifies shopping. The staff member who brought out my order was friendly and helpful, and the pickup process was smooth. Overall, this location is convenient and family-friendly, and curbside pickup makes shopping here quick and stress-free. Definitely a place I'll continue to shop at. read more

Spent about a half hour shopping here this morning. I went to check out and got in the self checkout "line". I was asked by an attendant "Are you in line??" I thought I was. However it was pointed out to me that I wasn't "in line". The line for checkout ran from the store front to almost the far rear of the store. The cake decorator Rebecca is wonderful!!! They have two layer cakes that are light and delicious . I had a vision of sunflowers cascading down the side and she made it happen! I am so happy . The store is dirty, no free samples, bathroom had stool and urine on toilets. Staff disengaged and no food court. Tire Center: You can only order tires online, pay for them and then 2 weeks later come and get your tires when they have an appointment. Went to my appointment and the tire center staff called out for the day. Left a message they said but on an incorrect phone. Went to my newly scheduled app and they wouldn't take me until the exact time of app. Never ever again. Pay the extra money at a place that is clean, professional and timely. read more

Whenever I am in the area, driving on Rt15 I always stop at their gas station because they always have lower prices than close to home. They have plenty of fill up stations which normally allows for shorter wait times. read more

So I just read through some of the reviews of the poor customer service on here and am hoping that I don't experience this on my future visits! My husband and I got an offer in the mail so we decided to join for a year for $25. The woman who helped sign us up was very friendly and helpful. I hadn't been to a wholesale club in at least 15 years (my parents belonged to Costco) so I wasn't exactly sure if I need to join (I don't have an extra freezer in the basement to put my 30 pack of pork chops) but so far I've had a nice experience. While they obviously have the giant packages of things, they do have decent looking produce, LOTS of fish (especially fish that Stop & Shop doesn't carry), and some good deals on beauty and health products. They had a giant coupon book today that helped us save a bunch of paper towels and coffee, too. I don't think BJs will be a weekly (or even monthly) staple for me, but once in a while it'd be very helpful to stock up on paper goods and snacks for parties (chips, salsa, dip, drinks, etc). I realize after typing this now that they do not sell alcohol (unless I missed it) so that's a definite downside compared to Costco, but we don't live near a Costco. My one...comment? is that the registers are weird. I remember at Costco your cart would go on one side and you'd be on the other...but here you're on the same side like a regular supermarket, but the cashier is facing a computer screen to the side so her/his back is toward you as they're typing in the products/codes. While waiting to pay, I was basically facing the back of our cashier's head. Just a weird layout - I don't know why they did it like that. Also, gas prices were GREAT today. Also had a very easy-to-use air machine (since my car dinged recently to tell me I had low pressure). Didn't need to get anyone to turn the machine on (which you need to do at Stop & Shop) and as you add air, the machine beeps when you've reached your target so you can add air more easily if you're by yourself (rather than walking back and forth to see the screen). read more

I went in on Thursday and was told by the gentleman that the best way would be for me to order online. BIG MISTAKE! Order online, schedule time and date. Only to literally walk thru the door at my schedule time 4:30 p.m. for the mechanic Chris to say to me "I can't take you" I'm back up, I have 2 cars that I need to work on. Well Chris, wouldn't it have been nice to give me a courtesy call? The guy had no clue what he was doing, pretending to look up my order, looking thru papers. I actually felt bad for the guy. I ask him if he can call me the same night to reschedule? Nope that didn't happened either. So I walk back in the next morning to have a full refund giving back to me since this clearly wasn't my fault! What a nightmare that has been. Dealing with member service was fun 16 minutes on hold only to be transfer to the meat manager. Chris you clearly need to find a different job, because if your managers cannot back you up and get you the help you need then what's the point? This BJs is considerably more expensive (at least for the items that we purchase regularly) than the Southington store. It's worth the extra drive to Southington. I will go if I'm in the area/need something. Today I was looking for a particular cut of meat. I was commenting to my husband that I was kind of disgusted that most of the meat and produce was expiring in the next 2-3 days. Who wants to fill their cart with bulk sized packages of almost expired food that can't even last you the week? Unless you're having a party this weekend, forget it. The meat guy overheard me - he didn't offer to get me fresher meat - he said "well I can take it in back and put any date you want on it." UMMM NO!!! That is not how this works. I told him he was really unprofessional and declined to buy any fresh food. I will limit my future purchases from this store to laundry detergent and paper towels. read more

Always a family of gypos at this place on the weekends so if you plan on shopping, go early or during the week. Nevertheless, its what you would expect from a big box store. It's clean and they always tend to have a good stock of food stuff and items. read more

My little 5 year old daughter (who's very shy) got the courage to get a second sample of Italian Pesto Bread all by herself.(I watched other people take more than 3 samples) So as she was taking her second sample, a loud booming voice screamed LAST SAMPLE FOR YOU. she was mortified. She now can't get any samples alone and never wants to go back to BJS ever again. Also, all of the workers are rude and unfriendly! My wife attempted to use my BJ's Whole Sale membership today, unfortunately I forgot to give her the cars before I left for work. She went to the customer care desk so that she could get "ticket" to shop there using my membership. She was greeted by a very discourteous and rude woman, unfortunately my wife did not catch her name or I would have gladly inserted it here. This location has really, really gone down hill. Call and sit on hold for a half hour to be told the tire garage only has one employee, and a manager who can't seem to understand how a tire even goes on. A front desk that just claims ignorance, and a 4 hour wait for tires. What a huge disappointment. I would have been better off at Sam's or Costco. read more

I have never felt so disrespected by a retail establishment. First, the gas station is, and has always been, a hassle. The cards you are able to use at the pump are limited and for that very reason it often takes forever to get to the pump. The pump station attendant is utterly useless because they can't (or just are not motivated) help. Basically, if you want to get gas at BJ's YOU HAVE TO USE CASH. On this occasion the pump wouldn't take my card and when I tried to pay with my card inside the gas station I find out you have to go into the main store to pay for the gas. DON'T GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE I go in and the manager all but ignores me but dose say "the gas is cheap sometimes". I wait in line for 20 minutes and the cashiers keep walking away. They refuse to give me my ($100) membership card back because it's my fathers and not mine. Apparently BJ's is NOT FOR FAMILIES. I gave up after getting no where with store manager. Told her keep the card, it expires this month anyways and ITS NOT WORTH THE MEMBERSHIP FEE. I will not be renewing. The gas station attendant was a lazy teen, the cashiers were rude, and the managers (one of which was the store manager) don't want to help. Walmart's cheaper anyways. read more

We went for coffee and paper towels. The paper towels were up too high so we asked a very nice worker in a red shirt who said he would get someone. He came back and said it would be 15 minutes. We waited and no one showed. We went about shopping for a few other things and found the very RUDE manager who said he was the only person in the store who could drive the fork lift and he wasn't going to because he was too busy. I like this new BJ's. better than Costco. It's much cleaner, wide aisles, not many "free Samples", so you don't get the "grazers" at the end of each aisle. The Brookfield Costco is very poorly managed. Old, and congested...actually a total horrible experience.On weekends it's a third world country free for all. read more

The Store Manager in Wallingford, Connecticut cares little about keeping loyal customers who spend a great deal of money on their branded card which actually makes them money. I called to complain about the change in policy where you can now only use $10 of your earned rewards at a time. I spend an estimated $2k to $4k a month on my BJ's Mastercard so I can use my rewards shopping. Just last month I earned over $50 in rewards, but when I went to spend them I've come to find out that BJ's changed their policy on spending rewards without notification which is illegal. I went to the Courtesy Desk and nobody was willing to help and they referred me to Comenity Bank who manages their credit card. Congenital informed me that BJ's changed their policy and to go back to BJ's. I called and spoke the their Front End Manager who assured me the Store Manager would call me back and it's now been two days without hearing anything. My advice is go to another retailer who listens to their customers concerns. I took my valuable time to try and let BJ's management know this is a game charger for their best customers who will choose to shop elsewhere. They are my rewards which I have earned and I should be able to use them. Three times I was promised that the Store Manager would call, but it seems he's very comfortable in not caring about his customer's who are taking valuable time from their day to inform somebody whom the corporate office may listen to for this is a game changer and I have zero incentive to use my BJ's Mastercard any longer nor to shop at BJ's. read more

I love going to this BJ's because they are amazing staff everyone is friendly and really on top of things and the parking lots are clean and everything. I witness something that It really irritate me one of the employee was treated badly by one of the customers on the parking lot . I got upset because he was blaming the employee of hitting his car and suppostly there was a scratch and I went to see after I did my shopping and nothing was there but I truly believe it was that your employee fault because the driver could of easily go around to park and he was the fault one he could of easily payed more attention of where he was driving !!! I walked in trying to get a membership thru work. If you follow me, you know I previously tried twice in Southington to no avail. This Wallingford location is closer to work so I had to go during my lunch break. I was greeted right away by "Tiano" so sorry if I spelled that wrong. He was a nice young gentleman that helped me with my membership. Only took 4 minutes (yes I timed it). I took off two stars, not for him, but for the older woman who was also at the service desk barking at him the entire time like he's a useless puppy. In the customer's point of view, the gentleman was doing nothing wrong and helped me quickly (again, only 4 minutes start to finish), but the woman needs to back off this guy, or at least learn how to speak to your co-workers professionally in front of customers. I've always liked this location. This store is nicely laid out and clean. I've had no bad customer service issues and like the self check out. I don't like the lines who does, but they really should open more registers on the weekends when everyone and their mom goes there on the weekend. I do find their meat and poultry prices to be competitive, especially their chicken drumsticks and breasts. I also had a odd request last year and needed a few pallets for my fire wood to stack on top and the security guy allowed me to take them home and helped me load them into the car. I don't get gas here, because I feel it's watered down, and I don't ever get a full tank worth during my daily driving back and forth to work. read more

I love this BJs! It's conveniently located on a main strip of supermarkets, pet stores, and everything else in between. I think the savings alone on gas pay for the annual membership itself. Although I don't buy everything in bulk, there are certain things (yogurt, kitty litter, snacks, deli meats/cheeses) that really are a better deal than the regular super markets. They send out coupons monthly and in store sometimes you can get some good ones too. read more

Great store, not only can you save by buying some items in bulk, but they also have a lot of great bakery items. The bakery items are really great for parties, events, etc. Another big plus is their consistently cheap gas. I know a couple people that joined here for the gas alone. No real complaints about the store, it's basically the same experience as the other warehouse stores (Sam's/Costco). Just be careful to pay attention to the unit price on items since some things can be cheaper at the grocery store. read more

First let me start off by saying, I've been a PAYING member with Bj's since 2006. I've also shopped at MANY Bjs locations in the Connecticut area within the TWELVE years and never experienced a UNPROFESSIONAL, DISRESPECTFUL, UNETHICAL, CONFRONTATIONAL, HOSTILE environment that I experienced at the 1046 North Colony Rd Wallingford Ct club #173. The issue is the DELI DEPARTMENT! Im not sure how the general manager Jamal Mcheet, makes it a priority that his staff recieves the proper training to ensure the warehouse is up to standards with the FDA codes and regulations. Based on what I've witness last night, the two female employees were clearly not following Bjs POLICY and FDA regulations. The two female employees were SARCASTIC , HOSTILE, CONFRONTATIONAL, DISRESPECTFUL, UNPROFESSIONAL, UNETHICAL and did not provide a friendly environment even after they were addressed by me, the paying customer. This location is clearly in violation and needs to be fined or possibly SHUT DOWN! Where do I begin.......employees not changing their gloves after each customer's order, dirty mop bucket in the deli dept., hair not pulled back or hair net on, dirty meat and cheese weighers, weighing meat on a cheese scale, leaving meat and cheese open after each use and not wrapping the food up, foul odor coming from the deli department that possibly smells like dead rodents, cross contamination at its finest and the list goes on and on. What I witness last night in club #173 should have been video taped and played in each and every new hirer orientation, of WHAT NOT TO DO!! Club #173 the last thing I want to do is pay for a membership to clearly get my family and self SICK having to miss unnecessary time away from WORK! I spoke with Robin the store manager which she was very nice and acknowledge me as a consistent returning customer, however due to the two females in the deli department not wearing name tags, Robin stated the following after I requested several times the employees names........"I personally dont believe in or feel comfortable with giving out employees names". The issue is Robin allowed her personal belief/comfort to get in the way of BJS POLICY!! Not one time during our 45 minute conversation, 20 feet away from the deli department she demonstrated leadership and SAFETY instructing the deli employees to CLEAN THE AREA AND CHANGE THEIR GLOVES, even after witnessing and agreeing to the health code violation!!! This is a HUGE ISSUE BJ'S as a whole, unfortunately im going to help you guys improve by contacting the health department. Sincerely a future Sams club member. read more

This place is huge! Not from the area, but was in it and needed a few things so I stopped in. Layout was insanely different than what I was used to, but it seemed to have more stuff than Waterbury. Staff was very friendly and helpful and the bathrooms were very clean. Parking was great though the clientele couldn't pass a driving test. Found what I was looking for and got out quickly. Will definitely stop here again next time I am in the area and need something. read more

It was my first curbside pickup and a great disappointment. As I watch others getting their orders placed in their trunks my cart was given to me and the gentlemen told me to have a good day. I asked if he could at least put my water in to my trunk as he complained he had a bad back but did put the water into my trunk. I am 69 years old and need a walker to get around so it took me almost a half hour to load my trunk. I was under the wrong impression that the service would be the same as Walmart where your order is loaded into your trunk by the employee. Apparently that service was not offered to me as it was to others collecting their curbside orders. To finish off on my experience the onions had mold on them. When I called I was offer to return the onions for replacement. I mentioned that the onions cost was $2.89 and didn't seem cost effect to return them and was there any other options and there was none. I have been a BJs customer since 2007 and this was the worst experience I ever had with BJs. read more

Joined last Christmas and after careful consideration have concluded that this place is a scam-Stop and Shop's gas prices match them plus you get money off with their discount card plus between wal mart and S&S BJ's prices are higher even though you have to buy in bulk with no grocery bags and such. People tell me that their meat prices are much lower but seeing how I don't cook very often I can't comment on that but everything I buy regularly is cheaper at stores where there is no regular fee. read more

This store has always been kind to us until today. I was excited to learn that I could return cans and bottles at the store. After returning enough to equal about $20, I decided to grab a few items before heading to the register to check out and get my bottle return money. The cashier rung up our 4 items for a total of $24. Then she decided to do the bottle vouchers before the coupons (wrong way to do it). The total (after coupons, vouchers, and 3 people coming over to "help") was about -$4.00 The draw would not open, even though we were owed money. Instead of giving us the money that they owed us, they tried to tell me that we owed them money. When I said no, they tried to void the coupons so the total was $0. The draw then opened up and they told us we could not get money back from the bottle vouchers at this register. When I asked for my vouchers back, they said it was already put into the register. By this time, we were pissed and had waited 20 (or more) minutes, with an elderly man behind us. My boyfriend said screw this and we just left, with no money or vouchers or anything resolved. read more

I ask twice for the snacks aisle, and he kept walking, looking at his scanner, I couldn't get his name, because he had the name tag backwards, was told there was no manager on duty, seemed that this store needs better quality employees, more respect towards the customer, more training in dealing with the consumers. read more
