I visited the store. This was my 1st time in BJs, I just got a membership online for $15, so decided to try. Since I am used to go to Costco, I want to see what was difference was. BJs is very similar to Costco, except it does not have any food court, and less service workers around. They have less customer there, so it was not packed like Costco. I did not see too many things on sale, maybe it was not easily tell what was on sale and what is not. Place was dim lighted, and kinda depressing. I will check out the other stores. It was strange experience, hopely other stores are better. read more

Big warehouse store, and though the return line was slow, the self-checkout and the full store of supplies was nice. Picked up some wipes, and Mykheal (I know there was a Y, but might have mispelled the rest?) was awesome, he helped point out a few different areas for supplies since I was new to the store. Lots of fruit and meat in bulk, of course, and home supplies, cleaning, some furniture, and other nonperishable supplies and goods. And they have a liquor area upfront (no membership required), plus were open later than most of the warehouse clubs. read more

BJ's Wholesale Club is conveniently located on Route 22 West in Watchung, NJ. I've been happily going there for some time now. The closest one to me is this Watchung location which can take approximately 25-30 minutes for me to travel to. That says quite a bit considering Costco's (which I also have a membership to) is right around the corner from me. Just like other wholesale clubs, BJ's has great prices and plenty of selections. They sell: - Meat including rotisserie chicken baked in the store. - Snacks - Electronics - A wide selection of Cakes, cupcakes and cookies baked within the store. You can purchase any cake and they will personalize it on the spot at your request. - Beverages and an attached liquor store inside (you do not need a membership to the liquor store) - Pastas, rices and quinoa - Olive, grapeseed, avocado oil & other cooking oils - All kinda of breads - Fish and seafood - Fresh produce - A ton of other food & non food items They also have plenty of parking -but no riding around the lot looking for an adequate parking space and no extremely, tirelessly long wait lines that feed down the aisles towards the back of the store like another unnamed wholesale club. Yesterday we became members and the customer service department was friendly and fast. A pleasant start. Then, we started walking around....wow, this place is HUGE!!! After spending about 1 1/2 hours trying to see where everything was located, we slowly made our way to the check out. Now, that was torture. Never again will we try the self checkout. The representative had to come over 5-6 times for our rather small order, including their promo $25 gift card needing to be swiped 3 times to register. I am a die hard Costco fan and this place has definite differences. Pros: lots of different items in larger and smaller sizes. Cons: trying to find and rip out the tiny coupons from 3 different books and the crazy check out lines. I would never come here during prime hours. read more

If you have a baby, and use a brand that they carry, the savings will easily overcome the "membership fee". I'm not a fan of their meats as I prefer a real butcher, but for staple items, some things certainly are cheaper. But you really must be aware of the prices of things in a normal supermarket before buying - many times, things as simple as toilet paper may seem like a bargain, but a lot of grocery stores will run sales that kill their prices. Also, keep an eye on those coupons you get in the mail and check the in-store coupon pages as well. Biggest tip - if you use an iPhone/iPad or have any reason to purchase stuff in iTunes or the App store, you can buy iTunes gift cards at reduced prices! Typically $3 less than face value! read more

This Watchung BJ's has the worst customer service person working in there. Everytime I call to make an appointment and this is always when I had a slow link in my tire. The person would say, well we don't have any appointment for a few weeks. I thought under my contract BJ's tire is suppose to take you in on an emergency basis. I will never go to this tire center again. The representative is also very rude. I had to walk to BJ's store to get a manager once because of this person attitude. He needs to be trained on how to honor BJ's contract. read more

I've been coming here for over 20 years and it's always been reliable. There are a bunch of food deals for those wholesale lovers and options ranging from fruit, bakery, chicken, meats, snacks, and more. Prices are reasonable for the amount you get. There are plenty of parking and carts to use. There is a mini food court for those wanting fast food. Many electronics and black friday deals as well. This is a good alternative to Costco and provides more or less similar items. Only thing missing is a BJ gas station. read more

Sure they have good deals here, thus why I always come, but the long lines at the cash registers are really slow! There's never enough open cash registers to accommodate all the people with their carts packed to the brim with groceries, and the employees there are slow as well. Like today, I was stuck in a long line with my cart filled with some groceries. Ahead of me were three people with their carts filled to the brim with groceries in a self-checkout line. Those people didn't know what they were doing, especially when it came to scanning coupons, and it took a while for an employee to come by and help. After 45 minutes later of waiting in line, I went through, and quickly as well. A lady behind me complimented my speed on checking out. Yeah, thanks lady. Unbelievable. read more

After waiting in line for over 10 min for one deli worker cutting by himself I found out the people that came after me were allowed to go in front due to someone else handing out their extra tickets we called the manager her name is christine she did absolutely nothing!!! due to her not being there earlier. Not sure why there are so many low reviews. Hubby and I received a gift membership for Christmas and decided to activate it last week. We are former Costco members at the Union location and because of AWFUL experiences there (not costco fault but the other Costco members) decided to defect to BJs. The first striking difference is how NICE the customer service desk is here. Our rep gave us coupons, a welcome bag with candy and water, and explained how they take accept credit cards as well as manufacturers coupons (which Costco does not). Place is huge and offers pretty much the same products as Costco for comparable prices. There is also a deli counter in the back. They also just added a wine/beer section - woohoo! Happy I made the switch. read more

Love this place. Good deals. Still have the New York/New Jersey attitude when it comes to customer service. Usually go there for bulk items (mostly groceries) although they can have good deals on electronics sometimes. We like to by a huge side of beef then butcher it into steaks and vacuum seal, and put them in the freezer for later meals. It saves you a ton of money if you have room in your freezer (or an extra one). You have to be a member to shop there (or go with someone who is). You will get your money back in savings if you go there regularly for your groceries. Try the self-checkout also, it's usually faster. read more

We shop here every week. This is the closest BJs to us. We have had bad milk 3 times. Once right from the store to home and twice when the second gallon was opened. We have had bad fish twice now. All instances the food was within date. Their produce large mixed salad green containers begin to go bad (turn black, soft and slimy) after a couple of days in the fridge. It is poor quality control issue. Forget about calling to complain. If you get through they tell you to bring it back. For what? A refund? Would you be satisfied with a refund if someone served you bad food and you got sick? It is just poor quality control/management. When fish, milk and dairy are delivered it must be immediately refrigerated. Not left on the loading dock... There are tests and devices for temperature control available to good management in the food industry. read more

We are BJ's shoppers...we usually go other BJ's locations, but we wandered into this one and loved it just the same. We usually go there for bulk items such as paper goods, detergents, and non-perishable items (cereal, peanut butter) and it does save you money in the long run. Yes, there is a membership fee, but you will definitely make up in the price of the fee if you are a regular. This location recently opened a Wine Store within the store and it was great! The staff was great and they suggested some great wines - we loved their suggestions! When we are in the area, we will definitely come back. We truly enjoyed our experience here! read more

If you come here on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, prepare to wait in line for a while. There never are enough cashiers working which result in long lines and an overall frustrating shopping experience. The self check out process doesn't work properly and ends up being a waste of time. They really need to work on keeping up proper inventory for their items. We've been BJ's members since they opened, and make the trek here fairly frequently. The selection varies, as brand names come and go from their shelves. Prices are not automatically lower because they're in a BJ's, but the Berkeley & Jensen private label is often very good. Facial tissue, whole bean coffee and nuts are three items where we prefer the B&J brand. Parking isn't difficult here, but shoppers are absolutely oblivious to the world around them-- pretty sad. We have a list of regular BJ's items but always find more. There is a new beer and liquor cage in this store; nothing to warrant a separate trip here. read more

This store is slightly better than some other BJ's in the area, but I'm still not impressed. It's typically pretty packed so checking out can always be an adventure. This particular BJ's carries all the same stuff that others do and you can find some great deals. I find that vitamins and granola bars are always a great deal here. I always kind of dread going to this particular because it can be a pain to get to while driving down 22. No real fault to this place, but it makes me less inclined to go to this one. We had a confirmation number / email for a deli order for 3 sandwich platters. When we got there they did not have our order ready at all. We showed them our confirmation email but said they couldn't do anything for us. After going back and forth they finally decided to "help" us. It only took them four and a half hours after the order was supposed to be completed, and three hours after my daughter's first birthday party to start, for them to finish our order. Management was not helpful at all. The order looked like crap as well. We requested that Management contact us after the fact a number of times, and they still haven't after 3 weeks. read more

Except for the those cashiers who just chit chat with each other and their manager without any regard for customers. Really not a great shopping experience at all; last week waited 50 minutes at the deli counter, one person was tending to customers and one person was cleaning machines and prepping for closing; mind you, it was 8pm and they are open until 10pm; customer service and attitude of employees is terrible, the front area near the registers looks like a slum, with carts and flats loaded with return items; thank goodness we recently got a Costco, only 5 minutes west on Rt 22 so we have more options. read more

Just joined the Watchung BJs last week, after receiving a $25 membership offer in the mail. Customer service desk was staffed by one employee. The person ahead of me had a complicated transaction, it took 10 minutes and the assistance of a supervisor to resolve the issue. Supervisor finished up and instead of calling someone else in to open up another station, went back to what she was doing, oblivious to the line that was forming behind me. When my turn came, I told the employee I wanted to sign up for a membership. Her exact words were "Where's your drivers license." Really? I looked her straight in the eye and told her it was in my wallet where I usually keep it. She also made the automatic renewal of membership for next year sound like a mandatory condition of the discounted membership for this year, I asked a few more questions and finally got the right information, but not before I almost walked out. My only reason for joining this BJs was that they have a few things that I buy all the time at decent prices, and it is convenient from where I live. The discounted membership will pay for itself. However, I never really liked this store--as observed by other reviewers, it is dark and dingy, and as I found out, the attitude of the employees is unacceptable. I'm sure that the district management knows that this store has serious problems and you'd think it would take steps to correct them, especially since the Costco down the road is so much better on every level and is probably taking a lot of customers away. Even though it's only been a few days, I have already decided that I will not renew my membership next year, which I now know will be full price. read more

A bit torn. There is a lot of good about it, but too much junk food (everything either too salty or too sweet), too much produce trucked or shipped in from 3000 miles or more, too much disposable crap that could easily be made more environmentally friendly if they took the lead (like paper towels made of recycled paper, for example). AND THE LINES ARE I-GIVE-UP-LONG. I'm afraid it is because, unlike competitor Costco down the road, the workers are not paid living wages. This can establish a kind of sloppy and disrespectful norm. (Including not showing up for work, which I suspect is the issue here, even though the checkout lines are consistently too long to the point that I avoid the store.) I suggest BJ's managers check out the professionalism of Costco worker norms. I feel especially bad for the 25% - 50% or so of BJs workers who are obviously ambitious, friendly and professional people who were brought up so well. I hope their lesser colleagues don't bring them down. Prices (for food or garden) better than any competitor including the local Stop N Shop. They do have sales -- on all the stuff I don't need (today I noticed people stocking up on$60 casket sized coolers. Shiver me timbers!!). All that said, I prefer BJs to Costco bc they have (slightly) more fresh organic produce, and it is smaller, which I prefer. I want BJs to improve in the ways I mentioned above, and I have told management to no avail (including "corporate"), which is why I bothered to write this. I think they are out of touch with the "new" healthier, more "environmentally aware" America. read more

As everyone knows, any kind of shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic is challenging at best. Online shopping is an option but at times, an in-store visit is the only option possible. To BJ's credit they have a policy of reserved times for first responders and seniors (60 years old and above) which is well posted. (I am 67 and my wife is 65, so we meet the requirements of age.) However, the Watchung, NJ store doesn't seem to get it right, or doesn't care. The reserved hours for seniors are 8am to 9am, Monday through Saturday. This morning, my wife and I recently returned from this store after leaving without even stopping to shop. We arrived at 8:05am and expected there might be some kind of waiting line. While we did have limited time available, we were willing to take a chance. There was a line and it was huge. The issue isn't that there was a line but who comprised the line. My estimate is that 20-25% of the shoppers were definitely not qualifying seniors. What gives? If the unqualified shoppers were disallowed entry/or waiting, the rightful shoppers would have a fighting chance to enter the store in a reasonable time. I hope that is isn't the same situation for Monday to Friday, also. This may have been a fluke, but it is a galling one. When I return is questionable. It certainly won't be during supposed reserved times that are unenforced. read more

I shopped there Saturday January 20. Horrible experience all around. It was extremely busy as you would expect. Yet the cart situation was bad, and the cashiers worse. I think they had 2 cashiers working in mid afternoon all the rest were malfunctioning self check outs. I timed my checkout wait - over 25 minutes due to the machine's problems. There were only 4 customers in front of me, and one of them had only 1 item. I told an Assistant Manager about my long wait on the way out, he just said OK. No "sorry for your inconvenience" or anything to make me feel like he cared. The store is not laid out like other BJ's nearby so it as time consuming just to shop. Their selection is not as good as others I've shopped. There is too much merchandise on the floors, making for crowded conditions. Also I walked through the liquor section and you can find everything they have at your local Buy Rite for the same price, so it's really only there for the convenience factor. Unless this is your local BJ's I'd suggest going to a different location. read more

To be honest, a one-and-a-half stars would be more accurate. I do like the selection of items, but the "likes" stop there. The place is dark-ish and dreary, and always appears to be not-quite-clean...which could be the lighting. The staff, for the most part, is atrocious, they still have coupons that you have to clip (I asked a manager, and they do not recycle all that wasted paper), and should you, Heaven forbid, misplace a receipt, the way in which the return/refund process works is antiquated and painfully slow. Costco is a much better choice, and a more pleasant shopping experience. I joined when there was a $25 membership offer; I can't imagine that I will renew when it expires. read more

Bj's Auto Center is amazing! Jasper gave me such great service and really explained my options in a way I understood. So many places that deal with cars, I feel, try to rip you off but BJ's Tire Center was looking out for the best deal I could get, as well as my safety! Also, every 6,000-8,000 miles I can bring my baby in for a FREE rotation and wheel balancing (some places charge upwards of $15 a tire for balancing). If I keep up with the maintenance and they don't last, I get new ones! Can't ask for a better deal- nor nicer customer service. Just went after a long hiatus, and NOW THEY HAVE A WINE/LIQUOR SHOP INSIDE THE STORE!!! Called the Wine Cellar of Watchung, this is not your typical inside-the-wholesale-club shop. Beautiful selection of everyday AND higher end wines at unreal prices. Great deals and selection on Spirits and beer. Now we can shop ALL IN ONE PLACE!!! Great staff at the Wine Cellar...friendly, knowledgeable. And you do NOT have to be a BJ's club member to shop at the wine/liquor store. read more

going to yelp to thank BJ's wholesale club publicly. I had purchased a Visio 55 inch TV from BJ's, that did not function correctly. After speaking with multiple Visio representatives for hours they agreed to send a replacement. The second TV (set up by delivery staff) had less functions and appeared to have the same non-repairable issue. Not willing to wait for another TV to ship, or to spend hours proving that I have a working internet network.( FYI Comcast personal at my house the day before said all OK.) I requested a refund after contacting Visio again and doing some of what they requested. The company rep informed me I would have to wait 24 to 48 hours for a decision. I can understand one broken TV, however since i do not work for Visio and am merely a consumer, I should not have to spend my free time repairing their faulty product. I felt that a refund should have been issued immediately from Visio for the replacement TV since it did not come from BJ's. Contacting BJ's customer service line is 2nd best thing I did, The first was being a member of BJ's Wholesale club. The service rep listened to my situation, directed me to speak with the manager of the Watchung,NJj store where I purchased the TV. Complicating the situation is that the delivery staff removed the original TV that I had purchased. I was trying to return a broken TV to Bj,s that was issued by Visio. At the store I spoke with Aubry and Kirk, initially,Aubry said she would like to help me. Aubry listened to my story and spoke to Visio regarding my claim. Aubry and Kirk put in the time to find a solution to my problem. I had no doubt in my mind when they said that a refund would be given. ON the spot I purchased different manufacturers 55 inch TV from BJ's. Thank you Aubry and Kirk for helping me, using a considerable amount of your time.
