This spot opened in Spring of 2025. Inside is kind of narrow and long space, with good amount of table seating going all the way down. It was a bit dimly lit, with really cool interior decor. Our server, Prare was awesome, she knew the menu really well, and gave us great recommendations. I ordered a drink based on what they looked like, called Sticky Situation, sure had an interesting look, and the crispy rice crunch thing on top made me think of a cloud floating on the drink. It is inspired by sticky rice dessert, and it was strong with whiskey. My hubby went with New York Cha Yen, looked liked a glass of beer with nice foam on top. It was refreshing with a nice tea flavor. Strong, nice portion, and a good start to open up the taste buds. We wanted a couple of appetizers, Shrimp Donut and Pak-Mor. I never had a shrimp donut before, so it was fun to try them. It was meaty, with super crispy exterior. The topping of grated salted egg yolk was a nice touch, but didn't get much flavor from it as I wanted. Unique and fun dish for sure. Pak-Mor came in beautiful, vibrant blue-purple color. It was quite good! Packed flavor, juicy fillings, nice crunchy texture from the peanut and radish. We got second round of cocktails, with Prare's recommendations. An Apple A Day, and Central Park to Lumphini. They were both really good, we enjoyed them better than our first drinks. For main dishes, we ordered Goong Tod Krob Cashew Nut, and Tom-Yum Pla. Since I don't know much about food from Bangkok much, Prare was so helpful with her explanation and recommendations. Goong Tod Krob Cashew Nut was quite impressive, with handful of huge prawns. I must say this was not an easy-to-eat dish, but rather get-your-hands-messy dish. Tom-Yum Pla was nothing like what I imagined, it sure was a "wow" moment when it arrived at our table. It had loads of branzino pieces and herbs. A perfect dish to warm us up! We ordered Thai Tea Crème Brûlée for dessert. We told them that we were celebrating my hubby's birthday, and they surprised us with the birthday treat while singing happy birthday! It had a really nice Thai tea flavor, we loved it! We were in the neighborhood and wanted to get lunch nearby. Thankfully, this spot had some tables opened so we were able to walk in and got a table right away on a weekend for lunch. Service overall was fine and the folks at our table took our order and our food eventually came out. We got the pad Thai where I swapped out the prawns with chicken. We also got a rice dish. I definitely like the pad Thai better and I have to admit that the chicken quality was probably the best I've had in a pad Thai. Overall, both dishes were good. I met a colleague at BKK for lunch while working in NYC. We arrived shortly after noon and were seated right away. There were only a few other patrons when we arrived, although the restaurant was about half full by the time we left around 1pm. The layout is narrow but long, with about a dozen tables down the length of the restaurant. There is also a full service bar with seating. We both ordered from the mid-day lunch menu. My colleague had the Pad Kee Mao while I ordered the Red Curry, both with grilled chicken thighs. We also shared an order of the Everything spring rolls and I had a Thai iced tea. The Everything spring rolls were different from traditional spring rolls but equally as good. They only came with one type of dipping sauce, but it paired well with them. The grilled chicken thighs were tender and flavorful, and both dishes came with a good amount of chicken. What stood out to me about the Red Curry was the amount of sauce. At other Thai restaurants I've been to, the meat and curry are sometimes served in a bowl with so much sauce that you end up using the rice as a sponge for what's left. BKK had just the right amount of curry and rice. We both finished our meals without feeling stuffed. The Thai iced tea was exactly what I've had at other Thai restaurants. The mid-day lunch specials are around $20 per person, which I thought was reasonable for the portions. Service was very friendly and attentive, and we were back out the door within an hour. I would recommend this dish to try Crab fried rice: I'm actually surprised this taste good as it was seasoned well. In other restaurant it was blah but this taste good with the lychee duck curry. We decided to give this place a try for restaurant week after passing by it so many times. It's a small Thai restaurant that has a modern appearance and right now they have a $30 lunch menu with app, entree and non-alcoholic drink for restaurant week. For apps, we tried the calamari, wings and dumpling. The wings were the best, with a dry rub that had a bit of spice and lime seasoning. For entrees, we had the dry noodles with brisket and meatball, and the chicken khao soi udon. Be warned, it is quite a large portion, even for me. They're quite generous with the amount of short rib they give. Came here on mother's Day without a reservation and the host was kind enough to sit my mom and I for an hour long visit. The food: - Wagyu Fried Rice (Spice Level 3): I usually have a high spice tolerance, but level 3 had me sweating, especially since it came out piping hot. Delicious, but be warned! Also a little tad too sweet for my liking. - Crab Fried Rice: Easily the highlight of the meal. Super generous chunks of jumbo lump crab, with a fried egg on top and a sauce that brought it all together. So good. - Shrimp Pad Thai: good but nothing special - Shrimp Donut: greasy and a bit fishy - Fried Whole Branzino: - Crispy Pork Belly: The only real miss. The skin was way too tough to chew. A few small cons: - All the plates were really sticky around the edges, which made it hard to move anything without getting your hands messy. -Their preset tip % is calculated based on the total, not the subtotal, which can be easy to miss since they just flash the reader in your face. Overall, I'd definitely come back, especially for that crab fried rice. Next time we'll also try some noodles. I went here on a Friday night with a reservation and, I would definitely suggest making a reservation ahead of time because even the bar was busy. The vibe here is dimly lit and intimate. This would be a great date night spot. The food was all very good and is the best I've had in NYC. The short rib massaman curry was the best I've had ever. The curry was complex with spices and less sweet which we enjoyed. The shrimp donut was cooked really well with a crisp outside and the ground shrimp inside had the perfect texture. Our server, Prare was wonderful and very helpful in suggesting menu items as well as checking if we had theater plans and when we needed to finish our dinner. Cute Thai restaurant hidden in the area. Food was good, quick and friendly service. The shrimp donut paired with the plum sauce worked well, reminds me of Cantonese shrimp toast. The brisket sandwich was alright - bread was perfect, light and crunchy, and the broth was deep in flavor and a tad spicy. The brisket itself was eh, slightly dry and the ratio seemed a little off, and personally a cheese other than American cheese might have been better. Not to be confused with the similarly named Thai BBK in Harlem, this is apparently a new Thai place from the same owners as Chu Ros but I would say the food here is leagues better. They have a mix of somewhat traditional Thai dishes along with some modern dishes inspired by New York with many dishes having a fun twist. The inside is modern looking with slightly dim lights and apparently, it replaced a Japanese sushi place that had been there a long time. Service was friendly and prompt with most dishes with our meal taking a bit over an hour with this being expected for Thai spots. For spicier food, dishes are ordered on the scale of 1 to 5 for spice level and we went with four and the four was a good bit of heat closer to a spicy at more basic Thai spots and would be good level for a moderate chili head. The drink menu is pretty eclectic with the cocktails being all $18. I had the New York Cha Yen with scotch whiskey, black tea, turbinado lemon, spring flower, Singha air foam, soda, and bitters which was different but tasty. The foam on top had said beer flavor associated with said Singha while the drink below tasted like a slightly sweetened black tea with a hint of alcohol though I couldn't exactly tell it was Scotch. It was good though I would probably try the more unique sounding Sticky Rice cocktail next time having only had seen similar at Double Chicken Please before. Two of the other people enjoyed the Pandan Paradise with white and dark rum, roasted pineapple, pandan, coconut water, pineapple Thai coconut cream, and lime saying it wasn't too sweet and that it had a good pandan flavor. The only appetizer we got was the Shrimp Donut for $18 with shrimp and chicken in a donut shape served with salted egg yolk mayo. This arrived with three pretty large pieces as well as a sauce on the side which I believe was described as a plum sauce which was slightly sweet. The donuts had a chew to them presumably from the plump shrimp and reminded another person in terms of texture and at the table of an oversized shumai which I agreed with. These were tasty and unique though I wish the salted egg flavor was stronger and didn't just have a nice presentation. The Wagyu Kra Pow for $32 with a wagyu patty, butter, garlic, Thai chili, Thai basil, and jasmine rice in a hot stone was the most unique main dish of the night. The beef on top is flattened and mixed with the rice at the table and was a fun spin on the usual ground pork found in this dish and had a similar texture to a Hamburg steak with a bit of crisp on the outside and some juiciness inside while the rice was good though I would say that the holy basil flavor is a little bit light. The texture of the rice was excellent especially when mixed with the crispy parts on the bottom along with the crispy parts of the steak. This was both excellent and a fun spin and I would recommend. The Kee Mao Brisket for $26 with with broad noodle, Thai chili, peppercorn, egg, Thai basil, fingerroot, garlic, and tomato was very tasty. The dish was spicy as requested with a very good noodle texture compared to most places. The brisket was unique with a slight chew and worked with the noodles though I prefer some other meats though there was a decent amount of meat (I think 12 or so thin pieces or similar.) This was overall solid and comparable to the better places a few avenues over in Hell's with a unique topping and I would recommend as well. Most traditional (and from the Chinese-Thai) was the Kao Moo Deng Moo Krob for $24 with homemade roasted pork shoulder and crispy pork belly over jasmine rice. This came with a slightly sweet red sauce to go with said dish along with a couple slices of cucumber. The best part was easily the crispy pork belly which was cooked perfectly and I wish there was more of those pieces by comparison. The roasted pork shoulder/red pork was less fatty than someone at the table would have liked but I tend to find that the Thai version is much less fatty my comparison to the Canto version so this was expected. This was good but I preferred other dishes though I've never been personally the biggest fan of this dish in general. The food overall was unique and tasty and better than the other Thai places in the local surrounding area with some unique dishes, good flavors, and portions justifying the price point. I do think they would do a bit better a few avenues over on 9th but I hope they get business as they deserve it. Mid 4. Would go back. read more
