The service was incredibly friendly, and my server was wonderful. She didn't rush me at all which I really appreciated. I ordered the Pad Thai lunch special and asked for chili oil on the side. The Pad Thai was 10/10! I absolutely loved the texture and flavor, it was so delicious and satisfying I also had a Thai iced coffee, and the flavor was immaculate! I loved every sip. Came here on a saturday around 12:30 PM, and were seated at a table for 3 without a reservation. The ambiance was very nice, and the interior was very modern. They brought us a small cup of hibiscus tea and some hand towels at the start of the meal. We split the basil steak fried rice and lamb shank massman, which was quite pricy for two dishes but ended up being a good amount of food for three people. It came out to be $35 per person. The steak in the fried rice was very well-cooked, and there was good flavor with some spice. The fried rice didn't stand out to me as much. Recommendations in order: Roasted Duck Pineapple Curry, Lamb Shank Massaman, Fish Curry Gratin, Char-Grilled Strip Loin, Braised Pork Belly A while back, I went to this Thai restaurant with a few others. I had previously been to their other spot, Malii, which used to be in East Harlem but is now located in Gramercy. By comparison, this place is much fancier and probably a good 5-10 times the size of the old space, so congrats to them. They gave us some roselle, or hibiscus, to sip on prior to the food arriving. The food that we ordered, which all consisted of mains from the signature menu, arrived at around the same time, which was a bit unfortunate as we were splitting everything. Next time, I would ask them to wait a bit between courses. The smallest was the Fish Curry Gratin for $26, listed as a traditional Thai Ho-Mok made with cod and coconut curry mousse wrapped and grilled in a banana leaf. This dish was one of the reasons why this restaurant was booked, as many other spots have stopped selling homok/hormok, or amok, as seen in Cambodia. The dish had a bit of sweetness, a bit of spiciness with the sauce on the side added, and had a soft texture. If you want a unique cod dish, I would recommend it. For the same price, there was the Braised Pork Belly, which consisted of said meat marinated in a five-spice soy jus served with a soy-marinated egg and pickled vegetables served with garlic-chili vinaigrette. By comparison to some of the other Thai spots, the pork was a bit more unique as it was larger pieces. The fat was plentiful, but it was cooked down nicely, and I liked the egg on the side with the pickled veggies helping to cut the richness. This was overall my least favorite entree, but more so since I have never been the biggest fan of this dish. Next in price was the $34 Roasted Duck Pineapple Curry, consisting of a charred duck breast served over spicy Southern-style Thai pineapple curry finished with grilled fruits and coconut cream. The duck was sliced into many different pieces, and just like the other proteins, it was cooked nicely, being juicy and tender, though I wish it had a bit more of a crisp like some other Thai spots. I appreciated that they didn't tone down the spice level, and the various fruits along with the rice helped with the heat. This was my favorite dish as it was both complex and tasty, and I would recommend it if you like spicier Thai food. Equally flavored, but less spicy, was the Lamb Shank Massaman for $36, consisting of a slow-braised lamb shank in a rich Massaman curry with warming spices. The lamb fell off the bone beautifully, and the curry was thankfully not overly sweet. In terms of spice mixes, it was above average, though I definitely prefer Jan Jao Kha, even if the protein was a bit better here. I would also recommend this. Most expensive was the $40 Char-Grilled Strip Loin, with a flame-seared 12oz US wagyu strip loin served with Thai roasted chili jaew sauce, charred shishito, pepper, fresh tomato salad, and sticky rice. The dish was more artfully presented than some other spots, with the jaew sauce already topping the steak instead of being a dip. The steak itself had a bit of a kick from said sauce and was juicy with some good grill marks. Overall, I liked this as well, but I prefer some other spots for this dish. I met up with a friend for dinner and had an array of items here. Lalyn is an elevated Thai restaurant with such an exquisite and romantic atmosphere. The high ceilings lead upstairs to another level in a dark and moody ambiance. To start off, we had the Crab Croquette ($17) and Tom Yum Hot Pot ($28). The crab croquette only comes in 3 pieces, but they are crunchy and deliciously filled with meat. My favorite was definitely the tom yum that was full of spices and flavor. I almost got too full since I had a second helping of this soup before our main dishes even arrived. Then we got the Basil Steak Fried Rice ($45), Lamb Shank Massaman ($36), and Grilled Branzino ($42). Not sure if I was too full, but I found the main dishes to be just ok. They are good, but not worth the high price tag. Of the three, I enjoyed the steak the most though. Finally, we finished with the cutest Bunny Cheesecake ($16). It was nice and creamy without being too sweet. I also washed everything down with a Nual Jan ($15) mocktail, which was more lychee forward and quite refreshing. Overall, solid upscale Thai spot that will surely impress your company. Some of the dishes are quite pricey though. My order was Som Tum with Grilled Shrimp, Chicken Satay, Roast Duck Pineapple Curry, Grilled Branzino and Crispy Green Beans with Chili Salt and Garlic. We are truly spoiled when it comes to amazing Thai restaurants in New York yet Lalyn manages to stand out in this crowded space, for ambience, service, plating, and how tasty each dish is. Midtown west is not where I want to spend any amount of time but we intentionally chose a place near Penn Station since one of us was taking a train from Jersey to our meal, and being inside on the Friday afternoon there felt like we were being whisked away to a much sexier locale, Thailand itself perhaps? We were treated like stars as we proceeded to order half their menu. Some highlights include the squid skewers, lalyn pad thai topped with jumbo char grille prawns, fish curry gratin (basically fish amok which is a Cambodian dish), massaman curry, pad kee mao with mixed seafood, crispy chive cakes, taro crisps, sago dumplings, and crispy bean curd. Every single dish was aromatic and bursting with flavor, but I especially loved the squid skewers. I'm looking at their menu again now and see so many more dishes I haven't seen on other Thai menus, including salmon larb tartare and scallop crudo with thom kha sorbet. As soon as we walked in, the space immediately blew me away. I couldn't believe this gem was just hidden right in the middle of midtown. It is only a little odd that knives aren't provided. It wasn't super crowded but I did come at 5PM on a Friday! I loved the vegan dishes (anyone with dietary restrictions will be happy to see everything noted on the menu). The golden taro crisps are fucking exquisite flavor bombs and I ate the entire plate of them. And the chive crisps. Buddha wept. Looks like the basic curries are generally not vegan, even if made with tofu and I didn't ask but I assume they are made with fish sauce. But! There's a roasted Massaman curry which I would gladly come back for when time and appetite allows. As I mentioned earlier, service is exceptional. My new favorite Thai spot. Came here on a Wednesday evening to celebrate my friends birthday. This beautiful Thai restaurant just opened a couple months ago. Everything from the service to food was beyond 5 stars and truly incredible. The presentation and flavors of every dish were unbelievable. Jakk was our server and he was absolutely amazing. I ordered the jun tra cocktail that was very tasty. For our starters, we shared the blossom sago bites, crab croquettes, and the tom kha soup. All a must order. For my entree, I had the lamb shank massaman, the meat was very delicious and tender. My friends both ordered the roasted duck pineapple curry and enjoyed it. I decided not to try it since they both said it was very spicy and I can't handle spicy food. For dessert, we had the bunny cheesecake, cute presentation, I didn't want to eat it. Manhattan, NY (midtown west) - Lalyn has only been open for a couple of months, but was already buzzing when my friend and I visited on a recent weeknight for cocktails and bites. The concept is contemporary fine dining Thai in a sleek, elegant space, and their first impression stuck the landing. The crab croquettes were an immediate hit, as were the blossom sago bites - a beautifully artistic riff on the street food classic of sweet-savory sago dumplings with seasoned peanut filling. The Rawang curry delivered superb flavor, though the beef could stand to be more tender. Presentation throughout is exquisite, and the food is true to tradition but contemporary and elevated. And finally!!! A restaurant where I don't have to complain about impossibly dim lighting, thanks to the thoughtfully placed spotlights that illuminate your menu & dishes on the table without killing the ambiance. We celebrated my dear friend's birthday at Lalyn a few days ago -- and it was one of those rare occasions where everything was absolutely perfect. The reception was warm and welcoming; they seated us once the full party arrived. I'd recommend making a reservation in advance. Before the food -- our waiter Jakk deserves a special mention. Having waited tables and bartended myself, I have high standards, and Jakk exceeded them all. Patient, attentive, funny, and charming, he made us feel genuinely welcomed while delivering on every request. 10 stars to Jakk alone! He started us off with a lovely tea, then we moved into cocktails: the Duang Duen (sweet foam and toasted almonds beautifully balanced the bourbon and dark rum), Jun Tra, and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. For appetizers we shared crab croquettes, blossom sago bites, and tom kha soup -- all three were excellent. The sago bites had an amazing peanut filling and a stunning lavender color, and the tom kha soup was absolutely incredible. For mains, we went with the lamb shank massaman and the roasted duck pineapple curry. The lamb fell right off the bone; the duck was a perfect medium-rare with a delicious curry. One note: if you're heat-sensitive, the duck curry runs quite spicy. We finished with the most adorable bunny cheesecake -- possibly the cutest dessert I've ever seen. Fantastic dinner at Lalyn! I had a great experience at Lalyn! I came for dinner on a Tuesday night before a show, and this newish venue was perfect. It's conveniently located just a stone's throw away from NY Penn Station. Ambiance: Very sexy vibe with a wide selection of libations. The bartenders are true artists! Service: Ploy was our waitress and she was fantastic. She was so attentive and knew the menu inside and out. Food: Everything was great, but the highlights for me were definitely the steak fried rice and the crab croquettes! Highly recommend! I'll definitely be back. read more

Fine dining quality Thai food at neighborhood prices. Each dish was presented beautifully and tasted fantastic! Food: Blossom sago bites - a sweet and savory peanut and coconut topping on top of a bright blue steamed rice cake. Super tasty and texturally interesting. Roasted vegetables massaman - creamy, savory, and full of comforting spices. There was a subtle tartness to the curry, and it's a bit thinner than most other restaurants, which makes for a nice texture. Great with the included portion of Jasmine rice. My friends also had the rawang curry, pineapple duck curry, and pad thai, which they enjoyed. Drinks: Duang duen - sweet and rich, with a tasty coconut foam on top of a bourbon based cocktail. Duen pen - great blend of herbs with a nice clarified base. Darika - great notes of Thai tea paired with some fresh ingredients. Dessert: Bunny cheesecake - cute presentation, but mostly just a standard, quite sweet but fluffy "cotton" cheesecake. Purple Yam - a creamy ube and coconut pudding on top of a fluffy cake. This was my favorite dessert! Three drinks, four entrees, two appetizers, and two desserts came to $315 with tax and tip, which was a ton of food for four. Pretty good new Thai spot not too far from Penn station! It's very new inside and has an elegant feel to it which is perfect for a date night or a celebration. It's got two floors and a bar so parties are hosted upstairs along with smaller tables. The service was really good here. Staff was super attentive and constantly refilling water at our table without asking. For food we tried the sago bites, duck pineapple curry, and the pad see ew. The sago bites had a really interesting texture as they were super soft and filled with a tasty peanut filling. The duck pineapple curry was quite spicy in my opinion and they were unable to adjust spice level even though we asked. It would be great if they had a more milder pineapple curry as it was super tasty but just too spicy. The pad see ew was pretty typical for a Thai spot so you know what you'll get. read more

Clean the table after each meals. Drinks: 4/5 Food: overall is a 4/5 1. Crab croquette 3/5 - it was nice but I didn't taste much crab. The presentation was amazing but flavors didn't stand out 2. The taro wrapped in tofu skin 3/5 - it's thinly wrapped in the tofu skin so you couldn't really taste the taro. I would recommend it to be in cubes so you can taste the taro 3. Coconut soup 5/5. Delicious and not spicy. I would reorder this again 4. Steak basil fried rice 5/5. It's SPICY. The flavors was on point. The sauce for the steak really compliments the fried rice. It was our anniversary and the restaurant gave us a complimentary coconut ice-cream 4/5. It balanced out the meal. I would come back to try more of the entrees. read more
