Made a reservation at the sushi bar area tables for 2 people. Warning: revolving door is heavy AF. I tried: + Anchor hitch cocktail (HH menu) - great + Edamame dumplings (HH) - highlight #1 + Spicy tuna roll (HH) - fine + Ikura - highlight #2 + Blue crab hand roll - not good. Too cold and seaweed was chewy. 2 stars because the service was impeccable and the interior was immaculate, however the food left much to be desired. I came in for dinner to finish out a day trip to NYC. I opted for the chef's select menu as I had never been here before and wanted to try a few things from the menu. I really had no preference and there was an option to have the chefs make a selection for you so I asked that they did. What followed ultimately made me sick in the restaurant. $98 plus tip literally down the toilet in the restaurant. The meal started off strong with the Hamachi Carpaccio and the Tuna rice cracker although the crispy rice square that came with the tuna was a bit on the chewy side for me. This was followed by the crispy tofu and the edamame dumpling. I would definitely skip these as the tofu wasn't crispy and had an unsettling texture and the dumplings were filled with puréed edamame which were also unpleasant. These were followed by the miso eggplant was extremely hot and soggy along with the Ribeye scallion that was actually really good. These scallops and the wagyu Bavette were also really although I did not particularly care for the miso butter that came with it which maybe because I was nauseous at this point. I did get to try the cauliflower side as this was included as one of my courses, but I am really not a fan of "fried" vegetables as they are usually soggy on the inside and are rarely ever crispy. I also only received 9 items instead of 10 and I did not get to try any of the poultry items on the menu. The meal finished with a soft serve ice cream that was good, but this overall experience left much to be desired. If you are planning on dining here and doing the chef's select menu pick what you want and don't leave it up to the chef's in the back as you may regret it like I did. This was probably a 4 for me but after accounting for the relatively cheap price for the chef's tasting, my husband may have convinced me maybe it's closer to 4.5 or 5. I would definitely recommend doing the tasting if it's your first time. It was a nice intro to each category on the menu and the portion sizes were quite reasonable. Accidentally booked a resy at the Philly location but the staff were kind enough to get me and a friend seated. Space was beautiful and a perfect location in midtown. Good crowd of after-work / client dinners. While our service was a bit slow (no waiter for 20 min), had to ask for water refills etc, food was great and good vibes! We definitely ordered too much. We really enjoyed everything including: -spicy tuna crispy rice (was able to add 1 more piece to have 4 total) -wagyu soup dumplings -cheesesteak baos -short rib and rib eye robotayaki -toro scallion roll -spicy scallop roll -Chirachi roll (no wasabi) -double knot big eye tuna roll -soft serve ice cream The sushi was super fresh and tasty! Really got to try a variety of the expansive menu by ordering many of the smaller shareables. The pork tonkatsu is a yummy filling--be warned if you're trying to portion! My fav item is the duck buns. So crispy and flavorful. It was the first item I ate and all I could think about the full meal. I knew I wanted to try the robatayaki but I would say these feel lackluster in the grand scheme of things. The drinks have a wide variety of exciting mixes and aromas too. Struggle for delicious dinner before or after catching a show is over. Walking into the place, first impressions do not give NYC aesthetic. However, every dish hit and felt elevated. Two people eating we had: Tuna Tartare, Hamachi Ceviche, Edamame Dumplings, Wagyu Soup Dumplings, Duck Scrapple Bao, Wagyu Bavette, and Mushroom Truffle Fried Rice. It was the perfect amount of food (didn't finish it all). Every bite was delicious. The highlight was the Wagyu Bavette with the MISO BUTTER. It was cooked perfectly, no knife needed. And if you don't believe me, start with the Short Rib Robatayaki and I guarantee you'll double back and get more. The Chirashi was my second favorite. It's a small yet mighty bowl, and the seafood & tamago were super fresh! I liked the truffle flavor in the Edamame Dumplings and of course the Tuna Rice Cracker needed an appearance on the table. I had seen double knot on Instagram and everything looks so yummy. I had to visit. It didn't disappoint. I sat downstairs at the bar. The restaurant is absolutely lovely. Two floors with tables and three different bar areas. I started with the pork gyoza which was a little spicy for my taste and didn't taste what I expected it to taste like. I had an avocado and salmon roll, which was absolutely delicious. So fresh! I also had a tuna roll, which was so good! I'm so thankful the bartender talked me into the soft serve ice cream. An import from Philly, it's a very midtown Japanese spot that will be crawling with power lunchers once they open during the day, and for now will be filled with office workers forced to eat together for team dinners. They have a really extensive happy hour menu, which can add up to a lot if you try a bunch of dishes for a few bucks less each. The raw fish is great and some apps like the Wagyu soup dumplings are delicious, but skip some things like the way too thick pork tonkatsu. Double Knot is almost like a tapas style Japanese restaurant - small plates + a great sushi/roll/sashimi menu (sushi = nigiri also) with some larger entrees sprinkled in. New spot in New York I thought that the happy hour was excellent. I especially loved the large portions of the fried chicken, the kimchi rice and the brussels sprouts I thought that the fried chicken could've used a little bit more better. I also thought that the alcohol could have been a bit stronger but for eight dollars you can't really complain. I would probably pass on the edamame dumplings since it was very filled with cheese; however, I thought that the baos were excellent. The Happy Hour menu was the reason Jennifer and I came here. Double Knot is newly opened and is located on West 51st Street. HH runs from 4 to 6 pm. On entering, the interior is fairly dark and looks romantic. There are two parts to this restaurant one of which is on the ground floor and the other in the lower ground floor. Both have the same menu and the one below is more quiet. The food selections are Asian with sushi, Japanese fried chicken, dumplings etc. Jen ordered the cauliflower with yuzu, kombu and cashews and the chili crisp chicken bao. I chose the grilled chicken thigh, the same bao and Brussels sprouts with puffed rice which though unusual gave it an extra crunchy bite. Jen's non alcoholic cocktail of rum and pineapple, The Baja Knot, was a tad sour so a helping of simple syrup worked wonders. The Carrick Hitch with n/a gin, lychee and Thai basil was delicious so much so that I would like to have it again. Both baos of the crisp chicken baos were hard and leathery. Considering that this is an Asian restaurant, it seems peculiar that this basic item was disappointing. Service was fine and unobtrusive.
