Slow as hell and the kitchen staff are yelling at each other. You can literally watch the guy take 8 mins per burrito in between arguing with other staff. The food was average, not fresh. At 12 bucks you can get better burritos for less elsewhere. Try Oaxaca. read more

This place is really really good. I generally prefer tacos to burritos so tacos are what I ordered and tacos are what I can tell you about. I've had the shrimp tacos, the veggie tacos and the chile rellenos tacos, all great, lot's of deep flavor. I love how they char the shrimp on the grill without drying it out. I love the grilled green onions they put on everything. I love the ever changing variety of of delicious, fresh salsas here. I love the fresh corn tortillas that they use. I always order to pick up and have never eaten at the restaurant, but it's got bright, fun decor and seems like a pleasant place to sit. The people that work here were very friendly. This is definitely best Mexican place that I have been to in this neighborhood. I only wish I had started coming here sooner. Given all this, I was wondering why the rating wasn't higher, so I perused some of the other comments and there seem to be three recurring complaints about this place. 1. "The portions are too small" This is the one that most befuddles me. The portions are completely normal, even on the generous side of normal. 2. "The price is too high." Well, there are certainly cheaper Mexican take out places in the world, but considering the astronomical price of rent in this neighborhood, which I can only afford to live in because my rent is stabilized and I share a one bedroom, it would be hard for a place to charge less, offer high quality ingredients, and stay in business. Consider B'klyn Burro's ill fated predecessor, Cochinita. 3. "I am from San Francisco. I am very homesick. I saw the word Mission on the sign and expected this place to cure me of my homesick blues. The burritos are not exactly the same as the ones I had in SF, and now I am homesick and angry." I can't speak as much to this one because, although I did live in San Francisco for a year, I first fell in love with Mexican food in Mexico, so whether or not the food is exactly like the Mexican food I ate in San Francisco is not my primary concern. I just want to eat a delicious tacos. So if you are looking to eat a burrito the size of your head for next to nothing or you want exactly the same burrito you were served back home in San Francisco, you may be disappointed, but if you just want to eat really good Mexican food, I think you will be glad you came. read more

I lived in the mission for 10 years. In that time I was on a two burrito a day diet like all Mission district twenty somethings. I haven't had a good burrito since I left in 2004 until I ate at B'klyn Burro. I think other reviewers are being nit picky in some of their negative comments. Price is the main one. It is unfair compare the price of a burrito in the mission ($7 in 2016) to a burrito in NYC ($11 in 2017) since many of taquerias in the mission have been operating since long before the first dot com boom and have very low rent. One simply cannot open a restaurant in NYC at 2017 real estate prices and compete with pre gentrification businesses in ethnic neighborhoods elsewhere. Secondly, no one is saying this is better than the best burrito IN the mission. It's a solid mission style burrito, not the best burrito in the mission. The best burrito in NYC? Yes. The best on the east coast? Yes, in my experience. I would love to be proven wrong frankly. The best burrito east of the California border? I'm just going to say yes to be inflammatory. Burritos are a California thing, really. Southern California has a lot of great Mexican food too but the burritos are different than in the mission. California has great Mexican food in general though BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF MEXICAN PEOPLE LIVING THERE! The guy that owns B'klyn Burro is a young guy from San Francisco who I assume is of Mexican/American heritage. Either way he makes goddamn mean burrito. Here's what makes this a good burrito: 1. The beans are great. 2. The meat is great. 3. The burrito is the the right size (big) and the ingredients are the right proportions. 4. They serve that killer tomatillo and avocado salsa that's at every good mission taqueria 5. This is the most important distinction: They griddle the tortilla and then they griddle the finished burrito while it's wrapped tightly in foil. If a taqueria skips the last step, if they steam the tortilla, if they don't wrap it in foil correctly so that it forms an outer skin that holds together until the last bite has been eaten, and they still call it a mission burrito they may as well be spitting in your face and calling it a kiss. I'll pay $11 for a burrito from B'klyn Burro because the only other way to get a burrito like this is to go to SF or have one shipped to you a burrito as my ex-roommate once did for me. read more

Ever since I spent two summers in San Francisco in the mid nineties, New York burritos didn't cut it for me. I never understood why we couldn't get it right here. Since then, slowly, New York has been improving its burritos. To me, B'klyn Burro is a great exponent of the Cali style. Right off the bat, they nail one of the major pitfalls of NY burritos: the tortilla. In most NY burritos, the tortilla tastes like they just took it out of the fridge- way too soft, sometimes it almost tastes raw. BB browns theirs and it makes a big difference. All the components are great- rice, pinto beans (of course!), and the meats are also tasty. My favorite is the carnitas, which are aromatic and tender. The homemade salsas are all very good. Lastly, yes it's not as big as SF burritos or as some other NY burritos. In SF I could never finish a burrito. If I was going home afterwards I could save a piece, but the leftovers were always too small to be a full meal anyway. Point is, the BB burrito is the right size for me. I can eat the whole thing, it's not a gut buster (which is a good thing!) and I'm definitely not hungry afterwards. read more

Went here for lunch on a Friday. Had a baby burro with two kinds of beans. It was pretty good. Also got guacamole so I could reach the $10 credit card minimum. The guac was AWESOME. Guac took awhile because it was made fresh. It did not come with chips... but because I didn't know that, I ate all of the chips that came with my burrito. So I had to scoop it out with my little burrito. I would definitely return and get a larger burrito the next time. Employees were very friendly! read more

Nice vibes at B'klyn Burro. Free chips with any order. Self-service guaca and chipotle sauces. Unfortunately the prices are really high compared to similar spots in the area (Maya Taqueria, Chilos, Lucha Lucha, Xocchitl). Cost was also a problem with Cochinita, which occupied the space previously and met its fate this year. I'm torn about writing this review. After reading about this place in several articles, we were both curious to try this place since while we went to SFO we didn't try any burritos...not sure why...I'm going with stupidity. So we came here last Sunday to grab food. I don't know if they were just opening for the day but it seem like they were just prepping and turned on the AC. So first of all, it was hot outside and to come into a place with no AC kills the appetite. So we shared the carne asada mission style burrito and various salsa. My half of the burrito got stuck to the foil and fell apart. Been the heat and this, I was so over it all. The burrito did have flavor but wasn't impressed. My bf enjoyed it enough and wants to give it another try to see if it was the heat that ruined the experience or it truly was just ok. read more

This place gets mediocre reviews from friends who have tried it. I have personally not had it because the one time I went in, I witnessed the owner scream at a customer and she was clearly so uncomfortable she made a purchase out of fear. It was really inappropriate and I was embarassed to have this store in my neighborhood. If you have that kind of attitude and temper, you stick to the back. I wanted to love this place as I was a regular at Cochinita, the delicious taco joint there before. Got a mission style burrito. It was solid and in theory very similar to the Bay Area but at $11 a pop, it had very little meat. In fact, it had barely any. The service was friendly but really need to get the ingredients and price point right to win in this neighborhood. I'll be back to try more menu items. This place is a great addition to the neighborhood. Pepe the owner is such a chill dude. He gives you a great experience each time you're there and everything is prepared fresh! Good quality food does require patience, so don't get too worked up if you have to wait a few extra minutes. It's worth it. I am a huge fan of the shrimp burrito... its definitely a must have. I live about a 5 minuet walk away and my roommate and I were looking forward to giving this place a go. I had a carnitas burrito and my roommate had the chipotle chicken. I really wanted to like this place - small business, fun decor, staff was fine. The burritos just had no flavor. I had to toss some kind of sauce of salsa, or hot sauce on every bite. I might go back one more time to try the tacos or a quesadilla, but overall I was not impressed at all by the food. It was super bland. read more

I was there last week with my BF, and we had a fantastic meal. He had a very filling shrimp burrito while I had the carnitas and chile verde tacos (both of which were very tasty, and the watermelon agua fresca was perfect). I'm a NYC native, but living in LA now so it is nice to get my Mexican food fix when I'm away. High five to the owner for playing some Art Laboe style songs per my request. Cash only and no take out....ok I will give that a pass if the food was good but it was not :( got the three mission tacos for $13 kinda pricey and portion small but the tortilla was dry as well as the meat. The free chips were burnt. I'm from the Mission District, in SF, whose uncle owns La Taqueria on Mission street... so I KNOW delicious mex food when I come across it. I happened to stumble upon this place walking to the train and had to come in! I mean being an SF native, I had to come in! Of course I shared with the owner I too was from the Mission and he let me sample their chorizo refried beans, which were delicious! The burrito was an awesome size, bigger than most places I've been to in NYC. Anyways, long story short, I recommend this taqueria, price is decent, cheese is included and not an extra charge and the salsa is soooo goood!!! Also the tortilla was crispy, not fried, and made the burrito even better. :) read more

Ordered from B'klyn Burro on 5/5/2020 for Cinco de Mayo and what a HUGE MISTAKE that was! Given the effects of Covid-19, I'm not expecting perfect delivery but everything about this was . My order was nearly $50 and 2/3 items were WRONG! They offer certain things on their takeout menu and not via Yelp so I wrote a note asking to order what's on the takeout menu, acknowledging the cost...ignored! I ordered nachos, they were STALE AF, super cold and missing items. I ordered a Snob burrito for my son, asked for beans, cheese and rice only in the notes section...ignored! The only thing right was the steak burrito and it was DRY AF! Then, they have the NERVE to charge $1/per 2oz for sauce that's FREE99 in the store! I was sorely disappointed. I understand sometimes restaurants can be hit or miss, but come on, some food just isn't fit to serve. Won't be back on my dime. But if you decide to go, just order the shrimp burrito. read more

My boyfriend was born and raised in Sacramento and after having a burrito here he said we could keep living in New York because he finally found great Northern Californian Mexican food. I just wanted to say thank you to B'klyn Burro because my SF-born husband has finally stopped complaining about there being no good Mission-style burritos (or burritos in general) in NY. Seriously though, we are addicted to these burritos. Every element of them is made in-house, and the flavors are incredible. Like the staff and the outdoor seating but got the steak California burrito and all the steak meat was fat trimmings. Made a tiny disgusting pile of inedible fat and almost brought it up the register but chickened out. I had been warned that the burrito may take awhile since they had to make more steak, but when it came out 3 minutes later i knew why- they just heated up discarded fat. This place is probably the closest you can get to a good mission burrito in NYC. Their salsa cups are hilariously awful, but the salsa is on point. Super good. I went back and it was a nightmare. Doesn't compare to SF in the slightest. The ambiance is the only thing that resembles a San Francisco taqueria. They charge almost twice as much and give you half the amount. Sure the burrito was a good size but the proportions were way off. There was barely any meat, just a ton of rice and beans which make it dry and certainly not worth the $11 price tag. The quesadilla was also a joke at $11. Barely any meat - just a ton of cheese. They also give you the tiniest containers for salsa and chips. they literally skimp on everything they can get away with. Never again. read more
