The 10 mile and Greenfield location owned by Ray is the worse ever! He informed me my glasses would be ready in 14 days. He had my money and my frames for 30 days without calling me. When I called, I kept getting the run around until I spoke with Ken. He informed me he would handle it. I went to get my frames when I was instructed, and Ray told the staff (by the PA system) they were not there. I waited for Ray to come upstairs, and he went into the back and reappeared with my glasses stating there was an error with my Lense, and he would have them ready in 14 more days. I filed a grievance and received them the next day. I went to get them, and he was the nicest person ever (but the rudest the day before I filed the grievance). He asked me to file a good review because he had to feed his grandchildren. Did you not have to feed your grandchildren when you were rude to me the day before? Really, dude it is because of you and your demeanor people go to the suburbs instead of patronizing our own. Ray at Black and White Optical on 10 Mile, you need better customer service skills because without us you would NOT be in business sir! This is a just a brief description of what was said during my back-to-back visit on 1/27 and 1/28. If corporate would email or call me I would greatly appreciate it. I rarely give reviews, but this time, I must. This was the worst patient/office interaction I have ever had. When I called to make a 6-month appointment, they could not find my records, even though I was here earlier this year. On arriving at the appointment, the receptionist lectured me about missing my 3-month appointment and phone messages. I never received a 3-month appointment and no phone calls. I remembered trying to make an appointment after my last visit and was told by a guy at the desk that I would be called before the appointment date. What does that mean? After today's eye exam, the doctor told me to schedule a six-month appointment. But again, when I tried to make an appointment, the receptionist started explaining their new procedures. So now it's "deja vu - all over again". I can't believe it is happening again. Why can't you write down a date and time on paper? From there, it went downhill. She refuses to hear me and interrupts everything I say while trying to explain something trivial. Then, another office worker decided I did not understand, so she interrupted me and re-explained the same points. Then a male office worker came over and, in a very threatening manner, accused me of being rude and upsetting other patients, and offered to explain things to me at his desk- and then offered to explain things to me outside! What? At no time during these exchanges did either of the three people ever consider listening to me, the patient with glaucoma, who is losing his sight, who can't seem to make a simple appointment. I never finished a sentence, but I was accused, lectured to, and even threatened. Not one of them showed any concern for my health. They are nearby and optical Insurance company listed them as a participating vendor. The anti reflective coating is coming off, and when we went in to have the glasses inspected they wanted to CHARGE an additional $100 and take a week to redo the anti reflective. That is more than the advertised cash price of new glasses at some of the other providers in the area. I won't be back when my insurance renews later this year. read more

To make a long story short this place really sucks the little short owner on 10 Mile has an attitude he has no patience unless you're spending cash money with him because when I pay $270 cash money for some glasses 2 years ago he was nice this time 2 years later I came to get my free glasses through Medicaid he has no time no patience and very arrogant I would never go back again so he not only lost me as a customer but he lost three customers because I had three other friends that was going to him that I recommended and now I told all three of them to never go there again and I found all three of them a new Optical place on Grand River. I had a great experience here! I found it because it's covered by my insurance, but the service was prompt and friendly. The doctor suggested that I change my prescription, which has been suggested before and hasn't really worked, but she gave me samples and let me try a lower prescription, without any pressure. It turns out my eyes have been overcorrected for years! I also loved that they can test for glaucoma without that horrible puff of air - it made the whole visit much less anxiety-inducing. I have keracatonus in my right eye. The sales associate ridiculed me for my vision, and instead of selecting stylish options, offered me austere glasses antithetical to my style. She also presented these options with haste and indifference. She kept asking me how I'm walking around without glasses, which I found inappropriate. Perhaps if I were crashing into things, the query would prove proper, but I wasn't. Additionally, as a sales associate at a glasses store, clients should feel attractive and empowered to wear glasses. I felt shamed. I will also say the Hispanic lady that acted in this way also treated me like a thief. She asked me to place my bag on the table...what woman wants to part with her purse? This is rude, disrespectful, and not even a good disguise for her prejudice. I hope the owner takes note and finds a sales representative who respects and cares about clients. read more

The owner Jessica Frye (Optician) is very patient when it comes to customers. *beings though I tried on nearly all of the frames* I was finally able to make a decision. My husband and his mother have been going here for years. That is why I decided to give it a try, right away my interaction went south. Someone worried about how many illnesses I have at "such a young age" should have been the first red flag, But I gave it a pass. Went on to do my eye exam and as a diabetic I knew I wasn't getting the proper exam done , I thought to myself every place must be different so again I let that pass. Discussing my glasses and prescription I asked were my non-glare added as well and the representative stated oh you want non-glare I said yes & she said well it's $100 you still want it & I told her yes. I was advised my glasses would be ready in two weeks I said ok thanks. I called during the second week for an update a representative stated "are you sure you came here ? Because I have no record of you" I said yes I'm sure & I paid $100 I have my receipt. She stated she would look down stairs and call me back in a few minutes (which she never did). I was so frustrated so I let my husband know what occurred so he called , he stated it was the same experience and he was also told he would receive a call back (but never did). Two days later I go there with my mother in law and all of a sudden they know who I am they have my glasses ,& stated my lens were sent out for insurance reasons. I called one more time a week later glasses still not ready no update available. So today I decided to go back with my mother in law the representative "what do you need" my mother in law said well we came to see if her glasses are ready. She stated rudely "Did we call you" I said no. & Yal never do.. in the most of her looking for my glasses she found a pair for another customer who she just told they weren't ready. Then she finds mine and says "you were on the call stack" I will never ever ever spend my Black Dollar here ! This is the most Unprofessional experience I've ever had. Lack of communication, empathy, understanding and customer service. My mother in law was looking for the boss as she stated "They fell off" she hasn't had bad experiences before. Every time I go there they're super busy and organization isn't anyone's strength that's on staff so be ready to speak up for yourself when it's your appointment time and remind them that you're there, you'll still wait a bit but give em a push. I visited their office last summer when I still lived in Michigan and would not recommend their services. I had a basic exam for contacts. I waited for 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time before seeking an update from an employee. His first response to me was "Do you have to be somewhere else right now?". I waited for 15 more minutes and was finally seen. I must note that while waiting, I realized that they double-book every appointment and only stagger them by 15 minutes. So there were many other people waiting to be seen by the doctor. The exam itself was quite poor because the eye chart was in a corner of the room and was slightly obstructed by a filing cabinet. In addition, a light that was in front of the eye chart was left on for the entire exam, and that definitely effected how I read the chart. The doctor was impersonal, not thorough, and seemed to be in rush (probably because he's scheduled to see ten clients in one hour). After the exam I ordered my contacts and left. That was in June. I just received my first call from the office a couple days ago and was told that my order was ready to be picked up and I only had ten days to get them. At this point, I've already seen another doctor at a more professional office and received my prescription. I can't comment on the frame selection because I didn't look at it. But their customer service leaves nothing to be desired and I would be a bit hesitant to trust whatever prescription you're given by the doctor. read more

I have tried to come here and support a black business on numerous occasions but I will never return here again... so I took my son here right before the pandemic he had an eye exam picked out glasses and was told to wait until they come back... a week or so...that's fine however the store closes due to the pandemic .. that's fine to... h I call to get my son glasses four times they claim they could not find them they would give me a callback .. finally after calling five times .. I get a callback and this jerk not only is he rude ass hell .. I ask him worse case scenario what happens if the glasses are not found... this man had the audacity to tell me worse case scenario you will have to pay out of pocket... "I KNOW YOU LYING" after you guys billed my insurance .. then he has the nerve to be talking like I'm getting on his damn nerve .. so I asked him was I bothering him he says "No" I'm trying to take care of other customers and help u to... EXCUSE ME... I'm a customer as well so how the hell you guys drop the ball and then act as if I'm bothering you... so after I tell him well I will be calling my insurance to report they were charged for an item I did not receive. Now he wants to say just come in and pick another pair... This gentleman is always so condescending every time I go in there...but I try to overlook him and support black... Never again will I return here....and I'm sure my lil business doesn't matter to them because if it did I would not be doing this type of review..The women on staff are great and friendly ... and they are operating according to the governors orders with the mask however ... Came in here a while ago because it was one of the few places in DC that accepted my insurance. It was a Monday afternoon and I came in a few minutes early. I waited nearly 45 minutes to be seen by the optometrist and when she finally got to me she said "you've been waiting long enough, I guess I'll see you now." I informed her that I was on time and waited almost an hour to be seen to which she just shrugged. I made a note to change my eye insurance so I could go to a better place. The place is very disorganized and crowded. The optometrist is not very friendly. However, the receptionist was very nice and courteous (hence why two and not one star). read more

They are competitively priced compared to some of the other optical stores in the area. My cousin recently purchased a pair of Dolce&Gabbana glasses. I scheduled an appointment for a Friday @1. I received a call Friday morning @ 7am telling me that the doctor called in sick and they needed to reschedule the appointment. I didn't think anything of it so I rescheduled for the following Monday @1. Being a 1st time patient I arrived at the office 15 minutes earlier and was greeted with take these papers and fill them out and have a sit downstairs in the lobby and someone will call your name. I waited until around 1:30 then I got up, walked up those stairs and told them to cancel my appointment and have a good day. They were looking at me like I was a martian! These companies need to learn that good customer service and timely appointment scheduling will prove to be the key to success. The person that told me to go downstairs to the lobby never even spoke to me or looked in my direction. I really thought he was a customer at first.. After getting home that day I really though that I would have received a call from them requesting an explanation but nothing and that lets me know that I really made the right decision to get the heck out of there as fast as I could. I brought my children here for their first eye exam in Michigan We just moved here so I was very skeptical about where to bring them. The service was good by the staff. there was one issue that I had that made me feel a little singled out. Since my children didn't have the BEST insurance one of the men there (not sure his position) assumed that I was unable to pay for a $5 eyeglass case. I stated to the girl at the front " OOH my daughter will like this case when her frames come back" and he rudely jumped in to say, and I quote "your insurance doesn't cover those" to which i replied " Its not a problem I can pay for them out of pocket, Just as I told the young lady I would do with the frames if the insurance didn't cover what I felt as acceptable frames for them." Other than that experience everything else was good. We walked in for our appointment a few minutes early we didn't have to wait. They do have a very nice selection of frames.
