The ladies are REALLY NICE. That said, their lab is terrible. They took forever and had to remake them several times. The first time I picked them up, they gave me headaches. Turns out, they had the astigmatism correction wrong. Just enough to make them unwearable. The nice ladies helped figure it out, we tried again. This time, reading with them was blurry. Gave up. The nice ladies gave me a refund. But this after literally months of waiting for a pair of glasses. Costco got the same prescription right in a week. You do the math. Better than Costco pricing AND supporting local. Regarding eyeglasses (and more importantly, lenses): I stopped into Fashion Eyeglass (on Woodward, in Royal Oak) to ask a customized eyeglass question. To my shock, they're having an incredible sale on LENSES... and frames. To give you an idea, Costco charges $150 for a pair of polycarbonate, progressive (aka bifocal), anti-reflective glare lenses. ($130 if it's their frame) Fashion Eyeglass is doing that for $99. They are also doing a super crazy high custom lens for me - which no one (who is sane) would touch!!! But they are willing to try because they are very artistic (they work on Cartier glasses, etc. so they have the know-how). They also have a two pair offer always going on. But check out the lens deal. Not sure how long the sale will go (but these guys - Mike and Mike, father and son - are very laid back). Great to support a local family owned business that tries to earn local loyalty. UPDATE: Custom-cut heart-shaped Tiffany Swarovski Crystal sunglasses! I walked in with a pair of sunglasses that had a bent arm that I had been meaning to get fixed. They took care of me right away and readjusted my glasses on the spot. I almost didn't go there because it seemed like a potential old lady place with awful frames, but I was pleasantly surprised. They understand and cater to those that don't have insurance for exams or glasses. I shopped around for a while and was appalled at both the cost of an exam and then the frames and lenses. I would walk out of those places thinking - are they kidding me - I can't afford $400 or $600 for glasses! And then they look at you with pity - like you poor thing - you're going to have to go somewhere and get no name glasses. Well - I'm so happy I found Fashion Eyeglass. The doctor was excellent and really made me feel like he cared about making sure I got a good exam and the correct prescription. Then on to the frames - which can sometimes be traumatic and high pressure. The people that work there are so helpful and friendly. No big high pressure sales pitch. If you tell them you don't have insurance they'll work with you to get the best deal while also making you look stylish. They have frames in all different price ranges, so if you're inclined you can get the latest hot style, but I was looking for something a bit more traditional, but still up to date that also fit my somewhat small face. If you go to their website they are always offering some kind of special. I got a 2 for 1 deal, as the most expensive frame you pick out becomes your main frame, the cheaper one is free. Also the basic lens are included, which seem to be working fine for me. I picked out one $99 frame and one $69 frame,so the $69 frame was free and I added anti-glare on one pair, and the exam was free. So $99+anti-glare + tax = about $130. I couldn't be happier and I have a pair and a spare! I'll be back for my next exam when my eyes change - which they always do. read more

Great service and staff. I brought in a pair of glasses to one of the big chains with a broken bow, the day before we were leaving on vacation. The young lady told me they could order new frames that might arrive in 2-3 weeks, but they didn't do repairs. I saw Fashion Eyeglass next door to the cleaners and decided to try them for repairs. They took them and said give us an hour and replaced the bows from their box of spare parts. When I asked how much, no charge! I'm saying good bye to the big chains and supporting small independents again. Thank you folks! read more

This is the only place where you can get a combination of great products, prices, and service. I'm very fussy about my glasses. The prices are terrific. There's really nothing out there that I've found that even comes close, and they do an excellent job. They repaired a frame I loved and had taken to several places who all said there was no way they could be repaired. Fashion Eyewear, which is father and son (both Mikes), repaired them and now I have my favorite frames back. If, like me, you have more than one frame and want lens, but can only afford one, check this place out. I now have 4 pairs of progressive, top of the line materials. The girls who work the counter are friendly and honest The optometrist is proficient and can have you in and out all during one lunch break. I hate writing reviews but I really feel like I need to give kudos to this place and especially Tina. She was so helpful getting me in for an appointment even with my terrible schedule and when I was picking out glasses she was very pleasant and patient while I tried on what felt like every frame in the store, some 3 or 4 times. I called Fashion Eyeglass last week with a slight emergency, I had ripped my last contact and needed a new one temporarily until I was able to have an exam and order more contacts. They got me in the same day, told me to come right over. I was given a new contact to get me by until I received my new ones. I saw Dr. Picard for a glasses and contact exam later that week. I was very impressed. He was so friendly, he answered all of my questions, and spent so much time with me making sure everything was 100% correct. At the end of my exam, he gave me contacts to try out for awhile to make sure I was comfortable with this prescription change, and told me to let him know if I came across any problems or discomfort that he would fix it. Not only was the doctor great, but the staff is excellent too! They were so friendly and accommodating. So glad I found them!! read more
