Let me start with Malissa was awesome. She was in point and was very friendly. I basically told her what I was looking for and she out it together. Biscuit and gray with eggs. My food came is about 5 minutes after I ordered. They weren't overly busy but had a good amount of patrons. I was impressed as to how quickly I got my food. So, I've been wanting to try Black Bear Diner for a while. I was staying overnight in Beaumont and discovered a location close to our hotel. When we walked in, I saw several vacant tables. However, we were not greeted by the hostess. She was busy talking and laughing with someone else. Totally ignored us. Someone in the kitchen area actually yelled welcome to Black Bear. Then the hostess saw us and said there would be a 30 minute wait. I wouldn't have minded the wait, but the vibe I got from her was that she just didn't care. That's not the kind of service that I want to pay for. We went a couple of miles down the road and ate Chinese food. And received excellent service. Well, my grandson and I finally went to Black Bear Diner on Walden Rd. There was no line and no crowd, we walked right in and was seated. The whole staff spoke as we walked in, "Welcome to Black Bear Dinner." We were seated and our waitress was Kamaria. We could not have a more accommodating or nicest person. She was superb. We were there for supper, but they serve breakfast all day long. My grandson ordered the Bear's Choice. It was two eggs, pancakes, and your choice of meat. He chose ham. I ordered the Cobb Salad. It was decent, I just wish I had a choice of grilled chicken. It was large and everything was fresh. The pie display was amazing, but I resisted. If you're a big breakfast person. The bear is a noble beast, and Beaumont's Black Bear Diner is an establishment of great valor. It's beige toned walls are laden with bear paintings reminiscent of the works of impressionistic genius Joan Miro. Our waitress directed us to a sturdy table fit for lords, filling our gauntlets with arctic chilled water and our mugs with what was undeniably by far the best coffee to ever slide down my gullet. Our servings were not unlike a raging Kodiak in size, but in contrast to a wild bear encounter the only creatures ravaging the fare were of homosapien ilk. Me and the wife stopped in for food and appearance are it's a grill in a truck stop and how good could it really be. Well we loved it. Everything was great, the staff was personable and service was great. We get around and eat at various places from Ruth's Chris two days before this to hole in the wall places and everything was great here. No issues at all. read more

If you're trying to decide between here and Cracker Barrel, choose here instead. The food is way better, the place is way less packed and the desserts take the freaking cake over Cracker Barrel. Also, we've never had bad service and the waitresses are friendly and on point with our needs every time. The breakfast is amazing. My husband loves the cinnamon French toast with a side of bacon and I usually get the 2 eggs with a sirloin steak. For a truck-stop cafe, my steak is always cooked perfectly and is juicy and seasoned nicely! Their salads are huge and delicious too and their takeout service is easy peasy. First time dining and not disappointed. Both my husband and I got the smoked brisket benedict. The portions are very generous and will probably share a plate next time. The brisket had a great flavor! The hollandaise sauce wasn't the best I have ever had, but good. We were excited to try their cheesy bacon grits and their applewood bacon that were recommended, but could have done away with both. The bacon seemed like yesterday's...it was thin and over cooked. The grits weren't "cheesy" as the shredded cheese was just topped on top- better if the cheese had already melted into the grits + salt. The atmosphere was wonderful. So buyer beware if you get the prime rib with no price,you have to read the entire menu to find out by asking your waitress,so obviously the price goes up and down by what they want to charge,so last night a 10" cost me $26.00 which was a rip off. We will never go again because of this the menu is very misleading because the price above under this section leads you to believe it's $14.99 which would have been a good price. A local friend recommended this place, they have never been, we haven't so we agreed, a little surprised I found it to be in Truck Stop, but we agreed and we did, Hostess acted as we bothered her, but then our entertainment came about w/ our server Kim, she was incredible. She knows her to tend to the consumers, she know's her orders, her recommendations were great and very attentive. The food was very good to for a diner, being from NJ originally where we have more diners in square miles and per capita this diner is better than many of those back home. Black Bear has some of the best home style comfort food in Beaumont. Their Ranch salad dressing is fabulous. They have a ?gooseberry? milkshake that is soooo good. The Taco Salads come in a homemade tortilla bowl just loaded with toppings, it's very filling. Ignore that this place is truck stop and give this place a try. They have a nice country log cabin decor. And the staff are always so friendly. I've only seen one employee there that was a huge jerk, and my guess is he was possibly a shift manager? He was a tall, stocky man in his 50's and he was incredibly loud and rude to the waitresses and cooks. You could tell that it bothered other customers in the restaurant besides us. But pushing Grumpy Man aside, the food...large portions, breakfast is SO good, great coffee, even dinner is good. Try their bread pudding-Yum! Great quality for a competitive price. I had the "Joe's Hobo Omelette". Outstanding. Huge 3 egg omelette with a generous serving of home fried potatoes & wheat toast. This is a regional chain in California that is expanding into other regions. I had very different experiences here over two meals. Dinner on Thursday night was pretty good. And service was excellent. So I returned for breakfast the next morning at 9:50 am. There was one couple ahead of me waiting to be seated. I had no idea how long they been there. Gal approached and tells them "it will be a minute." She then goes to the cash register to our out there drawer apparently. Does for a good three to five minutes. Folks in front of me are restless. She chats with a coworker a bit and then saunters off with the couple in front of me. She talks to someone wake and then comes up and says something I can't understand, but the after she repeats is "just you." I reply yes. About that time, somebody walks by on the way to the cashier stand. She then tells me "it will be a minute" and walks off to get they payment. All this time there are between two to five waitresses coming and going - mostly standing and taking. Cashier/ hostess doesn't say a word to them nor do they make any effort seat me despite the fact I've been staging 15 feet away for 7-9 minutes by no. I just left and went to the Cracker Barrell across the street. Nobody said a word and two of the waitresses just watched me walk out without a word. Day and night difference between dinner and breakfast shift. I'd have given 4 stars for dinner (with an extra kind word for the excellent waitress). One star since I can't give zero for breakfast. I should add that it wasn't crowded at 9:50 am. Waitresses had plenty of time to socialize. And the hostess/cashier certainly wasn't in any hurry. read more

Hands down one of the best breakfast's dishes I've had in a while. Initially, I stopped at the little store next door to grab a cup of coffee. When I glanced in the restaurant side, I was smitten with the diner styled seating at the front counter area. So I decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is infectious.
