1-Star Review I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was too disappointing not to share. I ordered what should have been a simple soup and salad--hard to mess up, right? Unfortunately, they managed to do just that. The "potato soup" looked more like yellow curry and had a strange texture. I bit into a chunk that felt like a soggy chicken nugget soaked in cream--absolutely inedible. I had to spit it out in my napkin. The server later claimed it was unmelted cheese, which was honestly even more concerning. The salad wasn't any better. The dressing had what I assume were homemade bacon bits, but they were rubbery, flavorless, and downright gross. We also ordered brisket queso, which never arrived. When the server finally came back--after my partner had already eaten half his meal--I let her know and asked to have the queso removed from the bill, which she did. To her credit, she also removed the soup from the bill, but the service was inattentive, and the food quality was unacceptable. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more

I come here mainly for happy hour during the week. I prefer to sit at the bar because the service is faster than the dining room and the bartenders are very attentive, especially Arron. Their food is usually great and well seasoned. My usual drinks are the jalapeño margarita and white cosmopolitan, both with cranberry sugar rim. They are the best in town! Happy hour is Monday - Friday from 3pm to 7pm. Ask for Arron if you sit at the bar. He makes the best cocktails and has a good sense of humor! read more

Treat handicapped people with respect. I ordered from my truck in the parking lot to give me time to get in. Entered & was ushered to the end of the bar. Made it. I almost gave up on Saltgrass due to a previous experience at another location in Houston about 2 months ago. Me and my husband decided to drop in on our way back to Houston and I'm glad we did. Our server Treyvion was quick on his feet, attentive and friendly the entire time. I'm very particular about how I like my steak cooked and for the 1st time in a while I didn't have to send it back. 10/10 highly recommend. read more

The steaks are fantastic but the seafood needs serious work. Ordered the Steak and Gulf Coast Shrimp and it arrived with a strong smell of spoiled seafood. The shrimp were not properly butterflied or deveined and smelled spoiled. There is no excuse for that because it was 8:00 PM on a Saturday night and there were maybe 6 other tables occupied. The tortilla soup was lacking, mostly water with few tortilla strips and no avocado. The standards have fallen at the Port Arthur location, probably better to go somewhere else. read more

This review is solely based on to-go orders from the online portal. I've ordered from numerous Saltgrass locations. I have found this specific location does a great job of preparing the order correctly. I typically order grilled chicken breasts or salmon (or both). Customers always seem to like it. The three sides I typically order are mashed potatoes, green beans, and mac & cheese. You get to choose two in the family packs. You also can order either a Caesar salad or dinner salad w/choice of dressing. I'm typically ordering for pickup during the early lunch hour. They are really good about having it ready when requested. I typically order online and pay in the restaurant so I can get my LSC points. My one complaint when ordering online is there is very limited space for comments. I typically have to request serving utensils while I'm in the restaurant simply because I run out of characters in the online portal. This is no fault of the restaurant but should be addressed by Landry's corporate offices. Bottom line - Good service and good food when ordering online. I ordered a full rack with Brussels sprouts and herbal rice. They were a perfect combination. The ribs were super soft and tender, and just the right amount of sweetness. I sometimes hate when there's so much sauce that the sauce covers the taste of the meat. This didn't happen. I think the sprouts were caramelized because it had a slight sweet flavor to it. It took a while for the food to come out, but it was well worth the wait. read more

I got a notice everyday from Saltgrass showing open for Thanksgiving make a reservation for turkey and all the trimmings. At no time was I told first come first served. So normally we have a very pleasant experience at this restaurant. That being said, this trip was terrible. Trey was our waiter and we saw him very few times. We waited at least 10 minutes before being greeted. Another 10 for our drinks and then had to pull a different server to check on appetizers that were Luke warm at this point. He didn't know which salad went were and completely messed up one of our party's order. I heard what she ordered and he brought her a completely different steak that wasn't cooked right either. My salmon was also under cooked. We did speak with whichever manager was on duty tonight and she removed the incorrect order from our ticket and promised to check back in. We never saw her again. We placed a to go order and asked for the ticket and waited another 20 minutes to be checked out. The restaurant had maybe 3 tables when we walked in. so I had previously left a review on "google" about the horrible service of this restaurant. I gave it about a week or two and decided to go back Jan 29 & 30 and it went well. I dined in and no issues so I went back Jan 31 and ordered an appetiser, steak and drinks. Then the main course to tool a while so when it came out I asked for it to be put into a to go box. I am still surprised that the Nederland/Port Arthur area got a Saltgrass but YEAH for the booming chemical plants i guess ; ) Anyhoo, my family and I had good experience here and I'm glad because it was families first time trying this chain out. Our server, Logan, was great; very attentive and friendly. My dad decided to spurge and get the sampler appetizer and it was ok. Thoughts: Appartently the ribs were really good because my fam ate all of them (like 3 ribs) before I could try a sliver, the fried onions are a simple and tasty treat, the fried zucchini is on point (my fam's fav), the spinach and artichoke dip was bland and not tasty at all and lastly the cheese stuffed jalapeno and shrimp thingys were good and super cheesy but 4 is waaay too many....my suggestion: put 2 or 3 MAX and add just 2 or 3 plan shrimp or just add 2 more ribs....just saying : ) On to the main course....my laredo lunch chk was delicious! Mom's lunch fried shrimp were really tasty as well. ( Note: she was a little nervous about the description saying "spicy fried shrimp". The actually fried shrimp are not spicy, they serve 2 YUMMY spicy dipping sauces on the side that can make them spicy, just an FYI for those not so spicy aficionados). Both my dad and Uncle ordered steaks and both were satisfied with their dishes. An overall good experience and glad we went. I was pleased that they offered a lunch menu daily until 4pm which offers smaller portions for those with the not-so hefty appetite. My fam was also digging the good music. The honey wheat bread they serve is also very light and yummy so try a piece but don't fill up! Last thought......even though Logan was a great server, I wish he wouldn't have thrown my to-go box away, so soon, that I so stupidly left on the table. I come here at least once a week. I'm a laundry's member. The incident described happened today but is indicative of other bad experiences here. This is just the first time I walked out and decided to post. 1130 the place was busy. Basing this off the number of people waiting for a table. Not off the number of full tables in the restaurant. I waited for five minutes. 4 servers looked right at me. Not a word or acknowledgment. Look if im gonna spend 60 dollars on lunch I can accept a wait. I get that. Getting utterly ignored is why I walked out. Other visits: the waiter brought the check while I was still eating. Then asked for payment while I was still halfway thru my meal. Several times I was "encouraged" rudely to sit at the bar bc "after all it's just you". As a whole customer service is so bad here. Skip them. Service started out ok till the waiter with his real Dirty Fingernails. He had the nerve to take my salad dressing out of my salad with his hands instead of just bringing me more dressing. My dr pepper had no taste. So i asked for water. He brought that. So My chop steak was dry. Asked for a manager. She came out not friendly and ask did i want something else. Her attitude told me no. She left the food there. Then i changed my mind cause i was hungry. Had her come back. Got chicken fried chicken. It was good. Ordered takeout .. sat on hold for over 20 minutes then hung up and called back. Food was mediocre.. I ordered Salmon Oscar with fried asparagus , a sweet baked potato and a salad for starters. They were "out" of Cesar salad. My sweet baked potato had NOTHING on it not even butter (no cinnamon or brown sugar either) My Salmon was over cooked also with nothing on it , no lump crab meat or lemon piccata sausage either. For lunch or dinner, I know I can consistently get a perfectly satisfying, flavorful meal here. I've never been to a Saltgrass anywhere else, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I'm officially sold, even coming from NYC. For lunch, the chicken Laredo- a thick, tender, grilled chicken cutlet topped with feta, cilantro and avocado, is a real winner. Start off with the spinach salad (served with fresh blue cheese crumbles, pecans, chopped hard boiled egg, and a perfect honey balsamic vinaigrette), and try a baked potato (I love loaded with everything on the side so I can do it myself) or steamed broccoli for an awesome meal. The grilled chicken sandwich is also a great choice- same perfectly grilled chicken with cheese and bacon on a fluffy brioche bun. Went in tonight to try it out for dinner and had the bbq ribs and grilled shrimp dinner. Ribs were perfectly tender, fall off the bone, nicely sauced, and the shrimp were very good as well (smallish, grilled nicely, tasted healthy... would even use as my whole protein for a healthy meal in the future). Coworkers and I have tried the burgers, salads, chicken fingers, cheese steaks, and Mac n cheese and everything has been to everyone's liking. Needless to say, the service is exceedingly attentive, drink refills are abundant, and even pickup service is available and super convenient (important for team lunch time). I hate to give this place such a low rating, but I have to base it off of evidence from visiting and not just sentiment for other locations. I came out to get a few drinks and some food on a Wednesday evening. I normally would sit at the bar, but in this case the normal bar seating was full. I say normal seating because there was seating in the "bar" area, but it was a strange set of stools facing away from the bar and staring into some family's table. It didn't make sense to me. I sat at a booth. The server was prompt and attentive. I ordered up a margarita, and it came out faster than I expected. That was a plus, however...the drink was very strong. Normally, I love a strong drink, but this was to the point of being not made well enough to be easily drinkable. Being a sound drinker, I downed it anyway. Note: I did ask if they had Tres Generations tequila instead of Patron, unfortunately, they did not have it. I then ordered a salad, steak, baked potato with extra cheese and bacon, and a different drink. I asked if they had Makers 46. They did not. Again, disappointed, but I decided to get Makers on the rocks instead. When it came out, I was even further disappointed. The server had let the drink sit too long before bringing it to me, and the ice had all but melted away and diluted the drink. I drank it anyway, but things were adding up. I then ordered some water to drink with my meal. I sat with my watered down drink, and waited. Then my steak and potato arrived. Did you catch that? Yep, they had forgotten my salad. I was looking forward to that salad. The potato came with very little (as opposed to extra) bacon and cheese. Additionally, the server forgot my water so I was without anything to drink. I beckoned the waiter and told him to cancel the water and get coke instead. I also let him know about the missing salad. He was polite and wanted to know how he could make it right. I said, how about another Makers on the house after dinner. He agreed to that. Cutting the steak and chewing it up, though, was the biggest disappointment of all! It was BAD. It was tough. It was tasteless. It was definitely, definitely NOT worth the money. It cost $22, but was not worth even $5. Seriously, the steak was tough, had lots of fat, and I was not pleased, but I looked forward to my next drink. The server returned to tell me that he could not give a free drink, but he could give dessert. I didn't want to dessert, but I compromised. I said I'd accept free dessert and I'd purchase another drink-Frangelico on the rocks. The drink again sat a very long time and melted ALL of the ice!! All of it. Then the cheesecake came out. How do you ruin cheesecake? Well, I guess this place has figured it out. The cake had a bad, dirty dish smell. They probably didn't wash the dish too well and that transferred to the cheesecake. Man, seriously, I like Saltgrass. I like drinking. I like steak. I like cheesecake. This place, though, based on my experience, just had very poor execution. Came here after a long trip on the road and was expecting a wonderful dinner. I guess my expectations were a little bit too high. I ordered a center cut filet and requested for to be cooked medium well. I got it for me closer to medium rare and I tried to eat as much of it as I could but the more I ate the rarer the steak was. I have already ate at least a third of it and couldn't take anymore, so I had to send it back into the kitchen which I really didn't want to do to get it cooked the rest of the way. So then results my salad was good, the bake potato is good but the steak was not where it should have been. I know I should have spoke up earlier when it first came to the table but I didn't, sorry, I am not a rare steak guy. Why the low grade, medium rare is a long way off from medium well, I would have taken medium for the steak, but if the cook is this far off, something went wrong. It was my first time to dine at the Port Arthur Saltgrass location. Our steaks were good -- but an issue arose that has me puzzled. I relate my story so others will be aware and perhaps avoid a problem: We came with another couple to dine here; the wife is extremely sensitive to corn products. She ordered grilled asparagus as the side order for her steak... usually a safe bet. But halfway through eating her meal, she discovered a small triangle of fried tortilla chip on her plate (!) -- She inquired with the waiter, and come to find out, Saltgrass actually briefly DEEP-FRIES THE ASPARAGUS IN OIL before grilling it! ...in oil in which corn chips are also fried... We'd personally never heard of anyone using such a technique for a grilled vegetable... if anything, to hasten cooking, one might briefly STEAM a veggie prior to grilling. So a caveat to anyone who has food allergies -- we learned a new thing to ask: "Do you fry any of your vegetables in oil prior to grilling them on the grill?" read more

1. Compared to the steak that I had when this location had first opened up, the temperature (medium, medium-rare, etc) of the steaks had gone down. Not drastically. Just so-so much. I ordered a medium-rare and it came a bit of mixed-matched temperatures; the outside was medium to well-done, part of the inside was medium-rare while the other part of the inner steak was cooked rare. Maybe they changed the steak grilling guy or something.. kinda disappointing.. 2. Hostess was nice and accommodating. We were appointed to seat in the booth right next to the kitchen where we could hear 'bout everything in the kitchen. It was also Freezing at our booth. So that wasn't nice nor accommodating but as soon as my bf asked if we could be moved to another booth, the hostess accommodated his request in a jiffy. Now that's accommodating! 3. The sides were all wonderful especially the brussel sprouts. After tasting a ill-versioned taste of the brussel sprouts at J-so-and-so, I decided to give this place's brussel sprouts and what a wonderful decision it was. Even my bf (who was with me at so-and-so then) agreed. This location were one of the better Saltgrass locations in Texas as I have been to other locations here and there and have ran into bigger troubles with the temperatures of the steaks.
